101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: February 27, 2014, 07:46:53 AM
You might want to try Localbitcoin and pay cash. I've never used an exchange to buy Bitcoin, but then I'm fortunate to live in an area where it is more common.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: February 27, 2014, 07:35:54 AM
I would never use an exchange where it takes several days for the credit to show up. Someone's making a lot of money from that float. There is no legitimate reason for a customer not to have immediate access to his funds. I took a risk buying Bitcoin to have on hand when the pre-sales started, and it has declined in value during the delays. I'd rather not risk further decline to crutch slow exchanges and those who want to purchase BTC right at the time of pre-sale. What this amounts to is me being made to assume more risk due to additional delay to reduce risk for someone else.

I do agree there should be a couple of days notice before the pre-sale. It should also let everyone buy in at the same rate during a set time period, .02% of total distribution per Bitcoin, no limit, instead of limiting to 50 BTC for 1%, which could go pretty fast.
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SKY] Skycoin Launch Announcement on: February 26, 2014, 11:52:07 PM
I'd rather have the pre-sale sooner than later given the volatility of Bitcoin. I don't see an advantage to waiting, other than maybe BTC will increase.
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 25, 2014, 06:38:02 AM
Ok but so what is the end result ?

I guess a BTC crash on near-term, and stabilization on a long term.

+1 $100 is the price I assume.

Highly doubt it. Failure of Gox was already mostly priced in. (It's not like this is coming as a surprise!)

I agree. People are overreacting. It's another stampede at the ostrich farm. Mt Gox has been clearly insolvent for over half a year, when they started delaying withdrawals.
105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptogenic Bullion | The Gold Standard Virtual Precious Metal | CGB on: February 24, 2014, 04:11:35 PM
I don't trust account based systems, try to avoid them. I've seen 3 different situations where account holders were forced to carry the losses of the exchange or unable to withdraw their funds - mt gox for the 10 months, coingrounds with Protoshares last fall, and Poloniex with XCP just last week.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cryptogenic Bullion | The Gold Standard Virtual Precious Metal | CGB on: February 24, 2014, 06:46:10 AM
The name of this coin is so cool I have to buy some. It has stuck in my head since I first saw it a couple of months ago. The project is quite interesting from a technical perspective as well.

WTB 2 BTC, please PM offers, .0011 BTC/CGB or less. Reputation thread at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=436065.0 . Escrow or seller goes first, smaller increments OK.
107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 24, 2014, 03:41:33 AM

B. This is a great idea, and we get to buy in to the business when the construction on the building isn't even finished yet. That means it's quite undervalued, since most people buy what they can see, and not what they can imagine. I have to endure some technical issues, and there is a genuine risk that things may all fall apart before this is ready for prime time, but I am willing to take that chance and deal with the inconveniences because I'm getting in for cheap at the start of something that could be quite revolutionary and lucrative. Not only do I stand to gain significantly as an early adopter, but I am also able to influence the design and trajectory of this project through thoughtful input.
EDIT: And this thread is full of responsive, intelligent people, including the devs, who are willing to help solve whatever problems I encounter.

I choose B. I hope you do, too.

+1 That's why I'm here. Anyone have any suggestions of other "B" type opportunities? I'm still waiting for Etherium to do its pre-sale.
108  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Understanding KYC/AML laws on: February 24, 2014, 03:31:41 AM
I wasn't aware that any country allowed ATM machines to print its national currency. ATMs normally only dispense notes printed by by a national mint.

nono, it is a new invention, decentralized money printing, makes absolutely no difference under the current banking system. print money locally, no need to transport it anymore, that saves CO2  Cheesy

I want one! Print-on-Demand currency is the future. Best thing I've seen since ALFII (Americans for Lawful Financial Independence - long since raided and shut down) let customers print out their own money orders drawn against their accounts at ALFII.
109  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Understanding KYC/AML laws on: February 23, 2014, 10:12:43 PM
So Robocoin has a roll or stack of the same paper used by the Canadian Mint along with the same inks, and will print out ones, fives, or ten dollar Canadian bills for the user? This is amazing if it really works that way.

  • The person who sold their coins comes to the machine later, puts in their code and the machine prints out that buying person's cash.

I think there would be a problem with this in most countires.

I would rather have the pre-sale sooner. I purchased BTC to have on hand for 3 pre-sales, all of which have been delayed.

Let me guess. Skycoin, emuine and ethereum?

Not sure about td services, but they are the 3 I'm waiting for!

Those are the three. I also meant to load up on some more Protoshares with the leftover change, but looks like other people are catching on that they have been way undervalued.

It was not an exchange bug. The bug affected all of XCP. So why should poloniex users only get penalized while the HODLERS! do not? I am both btw. Though I do admit

taxing is easier/quicker and I do want this behind us already.

Those who traded on poloniex took the risk that something bad would happen to the centralized exchange. And it did. Why did the hacker not try withdrawing funds from a random large address before the central exchange was up? Because he had no way of cashing out a large quantity of BTCs quickly from that attack because it would quickly be noticed. Poloniex gave him that opportunity by having lax risk controls.

Taxing sets a very bad precedent. Let's not forget that when the US first instituted the income tax the rate was 1% and it only applied to the wealthiest Americans.

Let's not go down that road.

Yes.Also I think donation is the best way to solve the problem.

+1

I avoid using account based systems for this reason. That is why I invest in DEX projects, so that one day I may trade on platforms I feel comfortable with. I have sacrificed the opportunity to quickly buy and sell at advantageous prices in the markets, and the convenience of placing orders on exchanges, to avoid counter party and performance risk. I buy during pre-sale and in the threads, or if I do use an exchange, it is only if I can immediately deposit, execute the trade, and just as quickly withdraw. My feelings are the same about banks - the only use I have for them is to cash checks and make the occasional online purchase. I also do not store much value in fiat, as I consider it to be just as insolvent as the global banking system.

Operating in this manner can be inconvenient, incurs costs, and even causes hardship at times. Since I cover my own extra overhead and absorb the risks for the way I choose to conduct my business, I feel others should absorb the risks for the way they choose to do business.

I am adamantly opposed to any proposal to tax XCP holders or inflate XCP to cover losses at a third party account based system.

Distribution is organic, NXT had an IPO anyone could invest in. Just because some didn't (me included) doesn't mean it is not fair. Back when the original IPO was launched, nobody knew that Nxt was actually at the forefront of cryptocurrency technology, hence many hesitated to invest. Nxt's distribution is becoming more widespread day by day.

This is not true. I was not allowed to invest in the NXT presale. It was abruptly terminated without advance notice when I posted a message asking for clarification on the deadline to invest.

Hi tdservices, BCNext explained why he speeded up the launch: He wanted Nxt to be launched by the community, not by a single person. Success of Nxt is supposed to be achieved by work of a LOT of PEOPLE. (1) -- you can observe how well this plan worked out right now.

I understand your point that you consider its change of plan to end the fundraising early an unfair move, but "NXT had an IPO anyone could invest in" remains true.  More info. Anyhow, this is a Skycoin topic, let's stay on the topic here. Everything else can be discussed in the NXT threads.

I would like nothing better than to see discussion of NXT confined to its own threads. However, the statement that everyone who wanted to invest in NXT was able to is not true, as is shown by the evidence I posted, taken from the directly for the original NXT announcement thread. I would love to see an explanation how ending the pre-sale early with out advance notice and then selling it a week layer at a 4762% markup from the pre-sale average price allowed "Nxt to be launched by the community, not by a single person. Success of Nxt is supposed to be achieved by work of a LOT of PEOPLE. " .

Ending the pre-sale abruptly without advance notice while a potential investor was inquiring about the deadline prevented further dilution of existing investment, which is the real reason I am sure is why the pre-sale was actually ended in this manner.

From https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=303898.480 :

Can we still join in between now and January 3? I haven't really seen any clear definition of a deadline.

I'm waiting for the answer. BCNext reads this thread.

Some changes in the plan:

1. Fundraising is over. That last 1 BTC, sent after the 2nd marking transaction, will be accepted but no more deposits should be made.
2. Nxt will be launched earlier than on the 3rd of January, right after the final test.
3. New Nxt users r supposed to be attracted by selling NXT and distributing via Nxt Faucet.
4. Messaging feature will be released later to avoid situation when somebody attempts to bloat the blockchain making it too huge for newcomers.

BTW we need one more bootstrapping server, coz 2 servers is not enough.
So, if I understand this correctly:

1) the main dev (BCNext) no longer posts directly to this thread but you purport to communicate with him and speak for him about the project, something we can't confirm,
2) the deadline for contributing BTC to acquire Nxt, which was originally described as being open until the genesis block was approved by the community sometimes at least a month from now, is now suddenly declared over with no advance warning; and
3) the BTC that were already sent to acquire Nxt, which the main dev (BCNext) promised earlier in this thread not to touch until the genesis block was generated, have now been moved.

Anyone see this passing 0.02 ?

I expect .05 in a month or 2. It will take a little while for people selling off part of their holdings quickly to recover the original investment, then building up to getting listed on an exchange.

Any update regarding level up coin?

Yes, we are putting the infrastructure together for development. There is a lead developer working on the project. A decision is being made on the platform - Bitcoin based, Skycoin, or build from scratch. A website is up and currently being built. An alpha version of the client will be released prior to any more fund raising. We are using tk808's list as a checklist for development goals leading to release.

If anyone is interested in joining the development effort or being notified of updates, please PM me.

Thanks for your interest.

WARNING!!! DO NOT SEND ANY FUNDS TO THE ADDRESSES ON THE ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT POST!!!

Thank you!! I would like to be a beta tester if there is any.

I think we should create a new thread....

Yes, there will be an announcement thread for the successor project soon with links to info and contact info to join in the project. There is a need for one or more developers to assist the existing lead. The whitepaper is mostly written, along with a development plan.

... and until lawyers in various countries clarify what the securities and regulatory issues might be in selling ether to the public in various countries.

uh-oh. a project is DOA once lawyers get involved. I liked Ethereum a lot, but this is not a good sign.
