I also want to point out a comment I found in a forum thread.  Guess which cryptocurrency this guy is talking about?

Quote
the genius doesn't lie in the code base, but in the algorithms and that the code is crap. I agree with that assessment. ... I've been thinking about refactoring the code myself. Everybody is afraid of breaking it since it appears to work, and that is reasonable to an extent, but on the other hand this code base is utterly unsuitable for serious work.

It's Bitcoin.  And the thread was started in June 2013.  Source: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=225163.0

Nice catch!
Someone need to point FrictionlessCoin to that thread for good old trolling Cheesy

BTC
Gavin has said that the genius doesn't lie in the code base, but in the algorithms and that the code is crap.

NXT
This is not a beauty contest.  NXT's beauty is in the algorithms and maths that have brought forward the state-of-the-art.

Accordingly, I consider the matter of EpicThomas to be closed and I will take no further actions regarding him.

Great work, rjames. You certainly deserve something for the efforts you put forth for both the affected users and the community as a whole. Very, very cool thing you did.

Closure On The EpicThomas Attack Of 31 Dec 2013

OK, time for EpicThomas restitution distribution.

EpicThomas has sent 47,960 NXT to my account 16092180239932658439 as a restitution payment for NXT lost in his hack attack of December 31.

From the previous charity distribution described at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4275210#msg4275210 this is the split applied:

Framewood: 35.16%
plasticAiredals: 6.56%
newcn: 6.39%
sparta_cuss: 51.89%

So I have transfered:

47960*0.3516 = 16863 to Framewood's  11516574435181434547
47960*0.0656 = 03146 sent to PlasticAiredale's  17139321135754562770
47960*0.0639 = 03065 sent to newcn's 13187911577562526278
47960*0.5189 = 24886 sent to Sparta-cuss's 14748981975238803545

These actions can be verified via the block explorer at http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=34 .  Between charity and restitution payments, these four individuals have now recovered just shy of 30% of their losses.

There still  remains doubt over whether the bandit accounts associated with this heist contain stolen NXT or darkNXT.   Furthermore, the sentiment  in the NXT general forum seems to be that EpicThomas paying a restitution of 47,960 NXT balances the scales of justice for his crime of distributing infected NXT clients on December 31, 2012.

Accordingly, I consider the matter of EpicThomas to be closed and I will take no further actions regarding him.

I'm curious though, how do you mean voting would suppress people?
Well, if u agree to vote, u automatically agree to lose in future in some cases. Until u'll lose something important it seems like nothing wrong.

Ricky displayed two "R"s that other users did not: relentless, and restraint. His effort and fair-mindedness was awesome to see. Emblematic (we hope!) of the NXT community as a whole.

I can create 1000 non-hallmarked nodes, they will support the network but they have 0 power vs. hallmarked nodes (meaning, my 1000 nodes would be rejected if the hallmarked nodes are running a different fork). As I pointed out earlier, people running the hallmarked nodes are not necessarily representing the majority of stakeholders.
That's not true. For avoid it u can reconfigure your client.

Why do u mention hallmarking?  Cheesy

anyone running multiple VPSs... you NEED this ansible playbook:  https://forums.nxtcrypto.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=230

easy deploy of a new VPS? CHECK
every minute look for java process?  CHECK!
restart on a block hung for 30 mins? CHECK!
automatic hallmarking? CHECK!

Genius :S. The whole cryptocurrency idea is that we enforce what we can with math and software and the rest is annincentive system. In this incentive system yes one hallmarked node is better than your rhousands because the hallmarked have more incentive tuam you to be honest kot to break the network in forks. It does not mean you are not honest it only means that we should not hope for you jonesty unkess we really really need to.

Will take me a while to climb up again, But where is a will, there is a way...

NXT MAINSTREAM ADOPTION STRATEGY

Steps:

1) Push Anonymous Messaging ONLY on WORLD CLASS DESIGNED ANDROID/IPHONE APPS (OUR FLAGSHIP APPS).

2) Make these APPS available on Google Play/App Store.

3) USE the current market situation to our advantage AS NO ONE IS NOW SURE ABOUT USING THERE MOBILE FOR SECURE COMMUNICATION....The NSA sent us a blessing in disguise....AN UNTAPPED MARKET.

4) Once Nxt Messaging has gained a strong following 100,000 - 500,000 downloads we start to Unlock/roll out other features of NXT ....ie. auction/storage/payment/Asset exchange/marketplace etc....thru regular updates once users start using the messaging app they become lock into the larger NXT ecosystem.

5) My real world examples are LINE & WECHAT....both started as msg apps but NOW OFFER IN APP PAYMENTS.

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xioami sold 100,000 smartphones inside the WECHAT messaging app last month.

The above is a Strategy for gaining MAINSTREAM ADOPTION which will give us payment possibilities without the need to push payment as our main selling point....this is be a unique approach for a crypto currency.

I think negative as this means that messaging is NOT for free, like using viber.

BUT it is anonymous. The question is if people are willing to pay for it?!

I;m sure those who require anonymous messaging would....but fee structure should also change .001 Nxt to make it cheap.

I'm for pushing this ASAP and modify as we go.....maybe market will feel 1 Nxt per message is very cheap for the services provided...via Aliases

Code:
Q:  Why was the initial funding cancelled suddenly with few people?
A:  I wanted Nxt to be launched by the community, not by a single person.  Success of Nxt is supposed to be achieved by work of a LOT of PEOPLE.

Q:  How would you solve problem with scam accusations according to "unfair" distribution Nxt to 73 big stakeholders?
A:  This problem can not be solved.  Even if we had a million stakeholders the rest seven billion people would call this unfair.  A world with the money can not be perfect.

Q:  What are the most inportant 5 things the community should do, in order to properly support Nxt in the next 6 months?
A:  Review all my ideas, they might be flawed.  Avoid centralization.  Do not pay much attention to the price of 1 NXT measured in fiat money.  Remember that half-measures is a way to nowhere.  Do not trust strangers on the Internet, especially if their nickname is "BCNext".

Godly idea. Mainstream adoption is the key to success.
Anonymity is a must have for some people.
Get people used to it, they will never go back.

Look at the success of SnapChat : the idea is to share private content without getting monitored and exploited as opposed to Facebook.
