Banning, monitoring, censoring, removing, or cancelling anything that isn't illegal as determined by a judge and directed by law enforcement with a warrant, is the start of a very dark future for all of us.

Our forefathers who died in the millions to give us the freedoms we have, will have all died for nothing if this continues. Everyone used to think China had it all wrong and now it seems everyone is all for the Chinese way of censorship and punishment of dissent.

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

Yeah, there are a lot of mentally ill people on the far right and on the far left but unless they do something "illegal", they have a right to say and do whatever they want. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be curtailed in any way unless congress or their state legislature passes a law against whatever they are doing and law enforcement takes action.

The idea that incitement of anything should be illegal is just plain communist to the core. That's basically saying, don't say anything controversial or in dissent or it might incite someone to do something. Now, if you directed someone to do something illegal, like if Trump said go kill people, then maybe there is something illegal there.

And no, I'm not a Trump supporter.

That is weird: Bitcoin is a lot more stable than Gold in terms of knowing exactly what is up: You can't fake it and there is no mine of gold out there, only 6.25 coins every 10 minutes.

Interestingly, Bitcoin can only be mined on Earth. Gold can be mined from ... a lot of different planets, any other solar system, any other galaxy.

Because of the way Bitcoin is set up with 10 minute average blocks, miners are limited to about 1 minute away from the "center of hash", which happens to be Earth. You can have miners on the moon or in orbit, like some international space station, but you can't have miners more than 1 million kilometers away as that's too far and introduces latency.

It's possible for other planets to use Bitcoin, but they can't mine it, only broadcast their transactions and wait for confirmation. Mars is already too far away, as in terms of Bitcoin, it is more than a block away. It's like 15 minutes to 45 minutes away at the speed of light.

I like it. Each planet gets their own bitcoin which captures the entire productive value of that planet. Exchange rates vary by productive output and are kept in check by interplanetary arbitrage.

American policemen have no issues to use excessive force, and they're pretty sure to get away with it. Of course, it's easier when it's 3 policemen to a single man... usually black.

No, usually white actually, according to official numbers, more white people then black people are victims of police violence.

Source? The Daily Stormer?

fake stats.

the actual count is higher for whites because there are a lot more whites.

236.5 million (2019). whites

41.99 million (2019) blacks

close to 5.7 to 1. well 5.64 to 1

that is google numbers if you google search

but 34% of people in prison are black
and 29% of people in prison are white.

most on bullshit low value drug busts.

If usa law was busting whites on low value drug charges the numbers would be closer.

I remember seeing an article but I can't find it. The statistic is based on the percentage of people with police interaction. As a percentage of people who encounter the police for whatever reason, whites are statistically the victim of police violence in much greater numbers than any other race. Probably because they are hopped up on some drug or trying to kill someone.

Of course, the counter argument is why do blacks encounter the police at a much higher rate than any other race.

Ehm guys, any correction soon?  Embarrassed

We just had a massive correction a few days ago.
105  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2021, 12:01:25 AM
Now people are regretting didn't buy bitcoin while it was $10-15k...

They will regret not buying it at $37k soon.

Doesn't look like a coup to me. Looks like a bunch of millennials on a field trip.

25K to 100K is not really "price action", it's a huge amount of money that needs to pour in. 250K, well, it's even much more bigger !

But I will not bet against it either.

It's not just about money. If supply is very reduced because few people are willing to sell and also because of the deflationary nature of bitcoin, less money is needed to make the price go up.

The flip side being that if nobody sells, the price can't go up anymore either !

I think it would be a great sign if nobody wanted to sell a single bitcoin at a certain price. It will never happen though.

There is plenty of supply available, the price just needs to get to the point where it shakes some loose. For instance, I'm guessing more than half of the bitcoin ever created would be available for sale right now at $1million each.

There is no shortage. It just seems like it because the price is so low. Who would sell now when they know what the next year has in store?

So does anyone have any insight as to why hashrate is not chasing this rise?

Are the big miners caught with their pants down?

Not so easy for a company to deploy a couple hundred thousand new miners each time there is a price change.

It's so big now, it takes months if not years of planning for a mining operation, and miners themselves have a 3-6 month lead time.

Mining is going to lag behind price. The ones best positioned are the ones that made the huge investments a year ago or more.

The ones planning a new or expanded operation now will likely get online around the time the price tops out and will be left trying to cover costs during the next bear market.

This will probably retest 20k and then we see how high the pump can go.

We're doomed! The 21M limit will be lifted, because DeFi.
Bullshit is strong with this one.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/the-butterfly-effect-why-defi-will-force-btc-to-break-its-21m-supply-ceiling

What a fool. How did this get published?

Any change to the 21 Million coins is a fork and no longer Bitcoin.

This is the same argument as "not enough coins available on exchanges" or "exchange coin shortage". If there are fewer coins available for sale, the price goes up. There will always be coins available for your dollars, you just get fewer satoshis per dollar. There is no shortage, the price is just too damn low!

Plus, what does moving a decimal place have to to do with DeFi? There are already 21,000,000 * 100,000,000 = 2,100,000,000,000,000 satoshis. Does the author not know you can transact with less than a whole bitcoin?

More FUD to scare away anyone thinking about investing. It's articles like this that ensure only the most intelligent people get into bitcoin while the 99% stay ignorant. I guess in that way, it's a good thing.

Hm. Apparently I can "buy" "bitcoin" in Paypal. However I have to set up a "cash account" and they want my SSN/TIN and DOB.

I don't think I ever gave them that before. Need to think about this for awhile.

What a rip off. 0.5% spread plus a percentage when buying and again when selling. Greedy corporate slugs.

The transaction fees are based on how much cryptocurrency (“crypto”) you buy or sell. The exchange rate you’ll see before buying or selling crypto will also include a cryptocurrency conversion spread. There’s no fee for holding crypto in your account.

Scientists create diamonds at room temperature in minutes

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/19/world/diamonds-room-temperature-scli-intl-scn/index.html

How long before they create gold in a lab? 20 years, 50 years? You just need a little fusion.

Can't counterfeit the corn though.

2030, the dollar as we know it will be re-baselined or replaced by the governments of the world with something else.

Dollar is definitely finished, it's only a matter of time.

The only problem is no suitable replacement on the horizon: not yuan, definitely not ruble, not even gold.

Well, except for bitcoin.

Enormous wealth that's locked up in dollars will not disappear. It will flow somewhere. But where? If not into bitcoin, where?

Yes, bitcoin is where some of the value will transfer. The governments will still want their dirty fiat though. They will inflate away all of the debt and blow up asset prices until a reset is required. By then, most other fiat currencies will be gone.

If bitcoin is well respected by governments and politicians by then, it could form the backing of a new global dollar but I don't have that much faith in modern economists. I'll just hold bitcoin myself and trade it for the currency of the times when I need to buy something.

I have a theory about the bitcoin 4 year cycle.

The 2013 bull run was fueled by libertarians, Cyprus, ASIC miners, Gox and the Willy bot.

The 2017 bull run was fueled by individual investor FOMO, forks, and alt coin insanity.

The 2021 bull run will be fueled by Wall Street investors, hedge funds, corporate treasuries, pension funds, etc.

The 2025 bull run will be fueled by governments, central banks, and sovereign wealth funds.

2030, the dollar as we know it will be re-baselined or replaced by the governments of the world with something else. The price of bitcoin after that can't be described in dollar terms we would understand today but it should have the buying power of $5million+ in today's money and a market cap of $100trillion+.

Takeaway: Never sell all your bitcoin no matter how high the price goes. We may not have an 80-90% crash this time or next time and you would be forever priced out of the market. Don't let the bankers have them all.

The day when owning a single bitcoin makes you a millionaire is under a decade away! HODL!

Coinbase Pro trading paused for the last 5 minutes...

looked like it was out for an hour or so?

much professional, very uptime

It's technically back up but it's still all fucked up. Balances aren't correct. Orders are going through but the balances are not showing up.

Does anyone know if PP will let merchants accept BTC?

This could be a game changer, we could be pricing goods and services in BTC.
It's easily implemented as PP already accepts foreign currencies (EUR/USD/GBP etc) and BTC would be just another currency.

No, they won't.

I can't access my paypal at the moment so I would like to make a few questions about the bitcoin's adoption.

Do they allow you to send your bitcoins to any address you want? Or they simply keep your bitcoins but they say you own them?
Also, is there any new tax about cryptocurrencies?

Any small fee? There must be something.

Last one, from what exchange do they calculate the price? Do they write such thing?

Read the last couple of pages of the thread.
