The case is designed to fit in a 19" rack, hence the staggered module layout and air baffles.

The case is only 400mm or 15.748 inches wide rather than 19".  This means, it will "fit" in a rack with a shelf but it is not necessarily designed for a rack.

Yet they are happy to support mega farms

Well they might not be happy with mega mines, but they wouldn't necessarily stop any individual from buying 110TH of product.
Problem with that is, 110TH/s of KNCminer gear pulls about 176kWatts, so I don't see you putting that in the garage, that means data center, aircon costs etc. to kill your profitability. However, I could see an individual with a couple of Jupiters in their garage, no aircon just an exhaust fan having a viable mining rig.

The irony is, KNCminer are clearly designing for the data center rack user, the least viable form of mining.

If they are designing for a data center rack user, they failed.  I don't think that is the case (too narrow, too tall, external power). If they did design it for rack use, it would not make it unusable at home.

Personally, I hope they make the next version perfect for data centers because the sooner all of the big players bankrupt themselves trying to put these in a data center, the sooner the rest of us make a profit.

Damn, that is crazy. Its actually [At least, looks to me] every 5 to ?? seconds. [Originally saw max of 20, now 51. Hmm]

Ive only watched it for a short while, but it looks like an average is right around 10 seconds.

Now, as interesting as it is to consider its a bot trying to get top dollar for the asks.. wouldnt it really just make more sense to market sell into the 140 wall? Yes, yes, 66 cents less.. but.. no risk. And, chance of triggering more sells -> lower buy back price.

What if the "1 BTC Seller" is the same person as the 2400 BTC wall at 140?  Wants to sell a bunch of BTC to load up for the next push without losing too much ground on the last push.  I am thinking up from here once he has sold it all or he runs out of buyers above 140.
724  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker - Hardcore on: September 12, 2013, 02:24:21 AM
Could a whale buy 2-3000 BTC at once to push the price up and then sell them 1 at a time every few seconds to prevent the price from crashing.  Rinse and repeat?

Which makes me wonder - are we going to also need a separate 5v power supply adaptor? Or is there such an adaptor that can convert one of the connectors from a PSU to that fitting?

Yes, I think you will need a 5v connector as well.  I believe all ATX power supplies have them.  When KNC announced the case, they mentioned the 5v connector as well as the 12v.

Anyone know what they are doing as far as working with cgminer or bfgminer.. it seems that they are writing some middle open source communication layer for cgminer.. but what if cgminer changes things, will KNC always have to update this open source miner or does it now become the job of cg and bfg to make changes .. also is this a good idea to do this? I mean they claim a 30% increase using their in-between layer but well..

anyone have any ideas or more incite.

The way I see it, they took the open source CGMiner code as a starting point and developed their own version. It is not really "CGMiner" anymore.  It is more like "KNCMiner based on CGMiner".  It is a fork of CGMiner and both forks will go in different directions over time. KNC will have to update their version from this point forward.

hahaha, no....no Rpi... it has its own linux onboard, with GUI & ssl ...a pi would be useless..
but is does seem, the chips are in, and assembly & test has begun!!...!!..!!

any stats on amps for Jupiters?   15 or 20?

I am figuring if setting up at home, separate circuits/breakers per miner is the way to go

It depends on the voltage you are getting.  In the US, it is typically 120 but that can vary from 110-120.

Watts = Amps x Volts

If you are in the US.
650 to 850 Watts / 120 Volts = ~5.5 to 7 Amps each Jupiter so 2 per dedicated circuit is a safe bet.

They wanted it to be rack mountable for data centers.  Racks are typically 19" wide.

The case is nowhere near 19" wide.  They could have made the case 19" so it actually could be rackmounted and would have had enough space to mount a (user supplied) ATX PSU inside AND put the modules in a line.

I never said they were 19".  You can put something in a rack that is less than 19" with a shelf but you can't put something in a rack that is over 19" wide which the case probably would have been if they put 4 boards next to each other.

I think the thing is ~16 inches wide, leaving just not enough room for a power supply on the side (remember, there's a nasty bundle of wires, PS fan exaust, and the shelves are a hair narrower than the rack (just trust me on that).  So, the PS lives on top anyhowz. Smiley

Yeah, that sucks.  Looks like most power supplies are 3.39" tall so you end up over by .14 inches if the case ends up being exactly 400mm wide.  The power supply could still go in front of or behind the unit but of course, then you have issues with blowing hot air into the case or getting it from the case.  Hopefully gen 2 will be better thought out.

There has been a slight revision in our casing that we had neglected to previously explain.

The case has had an airflow improvement to ensure increased thermal efficiency.

We have ensured the hot air from the front two heatsinks is redirected, avoiding the rear chips, and is expelled from the casing by installing fins affixed to the upper casing section (despite appearing in the CAD as part of the lower section of casing). In turn this allows a sufficient amount of cool air exits to ensure a cooler operating environment for the rear heatsinks to operate comfortably.

What I don't understand is why they didn't make a wider case with all four modules side by side instead of trying to direct the air with baffles.

They wanted it to be rack mountable for data centers.  Racks are typically 19" wide.

It's not 19" wide, and not rackable.  Further, the PS is external and has to live next to the case.  Awful solution from every perspective.

You can still put it on a shelf in a rack though but if they put all 4 boards next to each other, you wouldn't be able to.

Yes. Actually it is. Since it's the truth.

I quote: Who is going to read >400 pages and the search function of this site sucks.

I read them. All of them. And I am able to use the search function properly.

Congratulations! I guess that achievement gives you the right to belittle anyone else that comes along with a question.

Nope, but it gives me the right to point out the information you wanted in a short and effective way and critize your lack of ability to get them yourself. Seriously, if you feel emotional hurt over my comment - just don't post questions like that.

I am generally in favor of questions. Every one has them, you know? But most people try to get the answers themself first before spamming a 400+ pages thread with them.

If your question would have been: Hey does anyone know if Upgrades are possible for November orders? - I would have given the same answer in the same tone as bitcoinorama. But not to a "hey guys, I am too lazy to look for the answer myself for 5 minutes" post!

It wasn't my question.  Go back and look.

I understand the Mercury in a box that can hold 3 more modules was simplicity.  Will upgrade modules be possible?  Something on the order of a snap-in box to add an additional module or will the initial module installation be it?

Again, for the illiterate and lazy: read the posts and the knc news. there was an upgrade kit. now there is not.

Why all the hostility?  Who is going to read >400 pages and the search function of this site sucks.  All the negativity and forum bashing is hurting sales more than helping...unless that is the point?  Why doesn't everyone get off their high horse and STFU if you don't have anything positive to say.

First: Where do you see hostility in my post? That is one of my nicer ones, actually, since I have half a bottle of wine in me. Makes me all fuzzy and warmhearted.

Then: if I search for "knc upgrade module" I pretty much find the information that there was a way to upgrade your order.  AND if I go to the KNC website and read the news section, I can clearly read that there was the option to upgrade.

Third: Why the fuck should I care about their sales? I am not affiliated with KNC, although I wish I would be with that revenue they will generate...

Finally: This thread is full of positive comments, you just can't find them because of all the dumb questions.

Illiterate and lazy is nice?

A new US-based exchange (CoinMKT.com) opened last night with Dwolla as a deposit option.  It will be interesting to see if this has any affect going forward.

US-based, professional looking site, multiple currencies, founders show their face publicly (https://coinmkt.com/#/about_us) and are not dodging AML&KYC compliance.

Interesting. Definitely keep an eye on this exchange.

Model turned MSB?

SHA 256 was developed by the NSA and the article says they developed encryption they could break.  Why would they develop encryption they couldn't break?  So, if they can hack it or have a back-door, someone else may figure out a way.
