101  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt.GOX is FINE, BTC HAS NOT 'CRASHED' on: February 09, 2014, 05:14:55 PM
That timer is counting up, not down.
surprise,surprise

backward logic is perfect for the Gox exchange.
102  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt.GOX is FINE, BTC HAS NOT 'CRASHED' on: February 09, 2014, 02:20:33 AM
Gox going away will be positive in the long run. It's silk road all over again in bitcoinland
103  Economy / Speculation / Re: Confirmed Bad News Sources Thread - No FUD, Just Facts!!!1 on: February 08, 2014, 11:19:48 PM
Yeah, because nobody uses pot in the countries where it is illegal !

Exactly, that's why I made the comparison. Government cracked down on pot, now hardly anyone smokes it, and its price went way down. In the 1960s, it cost like $500 for an eighth. Now, it's like $50 for an eighth. In the same way, bitcoin will go from $500 to $5 because of government intervention, and everyone will stop using it except for computer geeks in their parents' basement - just like in 2009.

Confirmed!

Yes, Confirmed

I''m sorry, are there only 21 million possible marijuana plants? Damn, it would be $10,000 an ounce if that was the case.
104  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why does apple matter? on: February 07, 2014, 06:00:07 PM
the thing is, it would make us all happy if Apple would embrace bitcoin. Since they haven't, it's upsetting. The people that say Apple "doesn't matter" would be head over heels in glee if they embraced bitcoin.

Either way, the honeyBTCadger will be fine. This technology isn't going anywhere.
105  Economy / Speculation / Re: So whats the reason for this crash? on: February 07, 2014, 03:15:36 AM
I'm going to say that it maybe the move by Apple. Mostly techies are into bitcoin and they know what happened. Some think it's terrible news, others are angry about it and smashing Iphones on youtube. Either way, it gives the Apple move more publicity and could have scared new investors. Just a theory.

"Bitcoin has taken another step toward inserting itself into the global financial system as Perseus Telecom, a provider of heavy-bandwidth telecommunications connections for securities exchanges and their customers, said it will accept payments in the digital currency."
107  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODL - the synonym for I'm out of money but too greedy to sell. on: February 06, 2014, 07:52:55 PM
well damn, considering I've lost every time I've sold, it seems pretty reasonable to me at this point to hold, or hodl or whatever.

I'd be glad to buy more if it dips considerably, but in the meanwhile, I'm holdering

Ben Lawsky is starting to get it - I'd say this is good news....
109  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is in the same positions as the Nazi's were in 1945 on: January 30, 2014, 01:16:22 AM
not really, the Nazi party was a nationalist idea, bitcoin is a global idea.

If Germany could have converted people to the Nazi party throughout the world a little each day, we'd all be speaking German.
110  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY Hearings - lets live blog this puppy : - ) on: January 29, 2014, 09:05:47 PM
every time i hear the word "Hoarding" I want to ask how much money the person has in his Savings account or IRA.
111  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY Hearings - lets live blog this puppy : - ) on: January 29, 2014, 08:20:15 PM
why don't they say that 51% would ruin the price? the miners have no incentive to get to 51%
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY Hearings - lets live blog this puppy : - ) on: January 29, 2014, 07:53:51 PM
guy has to back off that mic. where's the soundman when you need one?
113  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY Hearings - lets live blog this puppy : - ) on: January 28, 2014, 09:20:12 PM
One of the more fascinating aspects of this panel is the fact that they are trying to understand things that most of us consider the basics. We really are early adopters, every one of us.

had a conversation a few weeks ago at a party with someone who kept calling it "bidcoin".

At least they got the name correct.....
114  Economy / Speculation / Re: NY bitcoin hearing in some hours - how will it affect price? on: January 28, 2014, 02:15:00 PM
i think it's going to be positive. As long as it creates jobs and they can get tax revenue from it, I can't see why they wouldn't be in favor of it.

Also, keep in mind that in New York (although it is the financial capital of the world), being publicly against fat cats, large banks, and companies like western union is always good for politics.

The latest buzz is that new Mayor wants to tax the rich to help school kids.

115  Economy / Speculation / Re: The last time this happened... on: January 28, 2014, 05:45:12 AM
feels like early October and I'm holding. If it drops enough, I'm buying more.

116  Economy / Speculation / Re: Impact of Unrelenting Supply of new Alt-Coins ?? on: January 24, 2014, 03:36:24 PM
IMO not a good idea to try and use logic when it comes to internet memes or "cute" cryptocurrencies.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the future we'll have different currencies for different interests. BTC will be the serious financial currency/asset, while Doge might be used by others for more "fun" purchases, such as surf gear or petfood.

If BTC is the main financial currency, it will attract that kind of social class and money, while Doge might just be mostly for young adults. That doesn't mean that Doge won't be worth a lot more, but it might not attract the kinds of minds who are investing billions of dollars.

This is just a possibility of course. It does seem that alts are going to have a place, although probably not nearly as financially influential as BTC.

117  Economy / Speculation / Re: price in next future on: January 24, 2014, 02:45:07 PM
It will go up and go down, sometimes slowly, sometimes violently. The question is - how are you going to feel about that? It's better to understand and accept the swings of BTC before you get in, that way you aren't shaken to the core if it drops 40% in a day. If that's hard to believe, take a look at the charts and you'll see that it's a real possibility.

In the meantime, I would suggest this article be posted close to anyone's computer screen before a major sell order is executed.

118  Economy / Speculation / Re: China has no plans to ban Bitcoin on: January 16, 2014, 06:02:02 PM
they won't ban it because they can't, but they will probably arrest anyone using it - that they can do.
119  Economy / Speculation / large opportunity for Bitcoin on: January 12, 2014, 01:00:24 AM
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/12/us/banks-say-no-to-marijuana-money-legal-or-not.html

This is a very interesting development in my opinion. It's also interesting that marijuana legalization is also in it's beginning acceptance stage, like BTC
120  Economy / Speculation / Re: 124000 USD from bitcoins order from Overstock.com on: January 11, 2014, 07:31:20 PM
Went to buy something but they don't accept BTC internationally? That's strange, BTC is completely borderless, surely its the easiest way to accept international orders?

Oh well I'll wait until I can spend my BTC there, and then every time I want to buy something I will see if I can get it from overstock.com before looking elsewhere.

yeah, I don't get that either. They could have done 200K in one day easy.

Maybe it has something to do with international finance/trade laws? Can anyone knowledgeable opine on this?
