101  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Banning Male Urinals on: October 21, 2014, 03:36:17 AM

WTF?

Banning male urinals is just plain stupid.  I'm not much of a fan of public toilets, most are disgusting and I don't want my wiener touching the inside of the bowl.  Of course elongated bowls eliminate the problem, but very few washrooms have them.  could you imagine the line up at sporting events because there are no urinals.

It's a lot cleanlier to piss in a urinal than to sit and pee.  Perhaps the ones that want to ban them are people who get "stage fright" or they have small wieners and they're afraid of other men noticing?

I'm gonna add this to the stupidest things I've seen in a while pile and shake my head.
102  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Thoughts on microchip implants? on: October 21, 2014, 03:23:30 AM
What are your thoughts on microchip implants? Do you think they will positively contribute to society?

Here is what I think.

We already use smartphones, they have become our own personal identification. We have the forced National ID, which we are required to possess at all times and may get in serious trouble if found without one. We could abolish the National ID and have optional, not mandatory implants. I think they'll allow us to easily combat human trafficking. If we can integrate GPS tracking in such a chip, a missing child can not only be found easily, but we can eliminate the chances of such a tragedy happening. We could also devise a way to pay using Bitcoin by scanning it, similar to the QR code method we have.

Of course, we are many many years behind such a thing to ever be released. The technology exists alright, but not in an implantable form due to public opinion (See: Google Glass, SmartWatch, for wearable devices)

I don't think thew will ever contribute in a positive way.  It will just be a way for big brother to watch and control our every move.  With credit, debit, and cell phones, we are almost at the point where almost every move we make is already documented in some way.  I imagine eventually being micro chipped will become mandatory at birth.

I already notice that the younger generation is a lot more agreeable to have very little privacy. I can only see it getting worse.  Eventually everyone will be open to microchip implants.  I'm glad I'll likely be dead by then, because thats not a world I want to live in.
103  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: October 18, 2014, 10:21:13 PM
You're totally stupid and idiot ! I can not understand why you sold your house for bitcoin ! And now, where do you sleep? Under bridge?  Cheesy

[assumption]

[another assumption]

[one can hope]

[and another assumption]

TL;DR:  The odds of an intelligent person [really] selling a house for Bitcoin and actually admitting it on the interwebs are slim to none.

LOL! Sometimes the stupidity in this thread makes me laugh.  People come in making stupid posts without reading any of the background.  I suggest people read up on what the OP of the thread has posted and the CBC article on the sale of his house for bitcoin.

He isn't the only person that has used bitcoin when it comes to the buying and selling of homes.  I'd post the links, but I doubt many would read before commenting something stupid.  Instead of people coming into the thread and shitting on the op, you'd think people would be happy for him or at least support him on it.  Guess it shows how ignorant some people can be.

A bunch of emails were sent out and a few notices to avoid it
Some malware phishing attempt to get peoples Bitcoins

Sept. 23, 2014, 6:33 p.m. - CAVIRTEX users getting spammed with invoice.jar again

CAVIRTEX customers are getting spammed with another round of the infamous "invoice.jar" remote access trojan (RAT) malware. DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT. Previous analysis of the malware by CAVIRTEX showed that the malware could automatically hunt down bitcoin, litecoin, and other cryptocurrency wallets, automatically sending them to the attacker. The malware also allows an attacker to gain full control of the victim's system. This includes logging the password of users while accessing their CAVIRTEX account.

The malware works on both Windows and Linux systems.

The message has a spoofed From field to make it appear as if it were coming from us. We did not send this email.

To help prevent the spread of this email, if possible please mark the message as spam with your email provider.

Right, I vaguely remember getting the email.  I expected to get an email right around when the warning was issued, not 3 weeks later or so.  Good thing it was a poorly written email so it was pretty easy to spot.  Then again, I don't trust any email that I receive that comes with an attachment.  See so many scams come through email these days.

Any word from cavirtex on how their customer email db got out?  Grin

Now that would be interesting.  Does Cavirtex wish to respond to this question?  What other information was possibly leaked?
105  Other / Off-topic / Re: With Ebola striking in Texas on: October 17, 2014, 03:09:22 AM
You ONLY spread the disease when you're sick. It's pretty hard to go places when you're shitting and puking blood.
Thomas Eric Duncan posthumously disagrees with you.

Ebola is only contagious once you get sick.  The problem is, people will ignore a headache and diarrhoea and go out in public.  Once you get so sick you can't go out, you've probably already done the damage.

That's one of the biggest issue with Ebola, some people aren't taking it serious enough with precautions.  Look at the NBC? reporter.  Ignored the quarantine and decided to go around town and shop, etc.

With some common sense, and proper cleanliness and quarantines taking place, Ebola should already be contained.  Far too much complacency in all this.  Part of me is convinced there is a complete other agenda with the Ebola outbreak taking place.
106  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: October 15, 2014, 04:53:58 AM
I don't want to go thru all these pages, but did the OP actually reply since the orignal post and about his actual sale?

For all we know he could of taken profit a long time ago.

His last post was made on June 01, 2014, this was his post,

I am back Smiley Been busy doing other things since I sold my house for bitcoin, and haven't really been following the price that closely. I check every so often and lo and behold it is back to $660+ right now!!!!!!! Well it looks like my $400K investment is going to make me a millionaire very soon. Now back to what I was doing... enjoying life.

By the looks of his profile, he was last active today:

Last Active:    October 14, 2014, 07:13:17 PM

I have to say, I am pulling for the guy, you'd think anyone would who isn't a complete ass hole.  No one want to see a guy lose all of an investment. Might not have been a great idea to sink it all into bitcoin, but to each their own.
107  Other / Off-topic / Re: With Ebola striking in Texas on: October 14, 2014, 11:20:55 PM
So the whole USA is infected now right? Or did nothing at all happen?

LOL!

No, the entire USA is not infected. There are a few isolated cases though.  Apparently there might be one or two in Canada as well.  The only reason it has spread this big so far is complete stupidity by people.  With proper decontamination and sterilization this should have already been dealt with.

I was reading about a reporter for NBC or something that had done a story about Ebola and apparently her cameraman got infected.  She went into quarantine because of it but then left multiple times risking infecting other people.

I swear some are trying to test and and are trying whatever they can do to make it spread. I imagine within a couple weeks Ebola will go away no different than SARS did.

So I received a fake email apparently from "Cavirtex Support (info@cavirtex.com" earlier today with what is likely a virus attached to it.

The subject line was: [cavirtex.com.com] Invoice Payment (#4142)‏ and the email was as follows:

1 attachment (125.5 KB)
Download invoice_4142.jar (125.5 KB)
invoice_4142.jar
Download
Download as zip

Invoice Payment

Thank you for using Cavirtex. Wish you have a happy time here!

I haven't used them in a while and the writing of the email just looks suspicious.  Just figured I'd give others a heads up.  Has anyone else received this email yet?

The link you posted is broken, and I cant find any app by searching "bitcoin forum" on the google play store

I believe the link he wanted to post is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.elbandi.forum.bitcointalk

Thanks mate

Also I dont think I have a problem with my internet connection, the forum might be a bit laggy and I hate you have to wait between posts

As your membership level increases your wait time to do certain things will get smaller and smaller.  I believe I have to wait about 10 seconds between actions.  I remember it being annoying at first.  Just have to be patient for a while.

I've never really noticed the form lag or be slow and I only have an internet plan that gives me 25mbs, looks like yours is running at around 94mbs.  I notice it can be a little slower than some sites I use but I imagine there is a lot of traffic for this site. Overall though, hardly noticeable.
110  Other / Off-topic / Re: Best Game You Ever Bought? on: October 14, 2014, 06:26:28 AM
Best game I ever bought would be Legend of Zelda for the NES. I was around 10 at the time and I remember saving up my allowance for weeks. I did lots of odd jobs around the house and for my parents friends as well.  Fisrt game I ever was able to save for and by outright with my own money.  Was a big accomplishment at that age.

Still to this day one of the best games ever produced.  I still play it from time to time on my Nintendo emulator for the PC.  Been trying to finish it for a long time again on the PC but the emulator keeps losing my game progress. They seem to be really finicky with these types of games that require you to push and hold the reset button while you turn it off.

Same thing always happens with Dragon Warrior, which I am still to ever finish.

Final Fantasy 1, on release day. I had to nag the shit out of my parents for it. I spent the better part of a year with my friend trying to figure it out. No internet, nothing but rumours from class mates and the occasional Nintendo Power or EGM.

Dragon warrior 1 was a close second. We didn't beat both until years later.

Nintendo Power was great as a kid.  I remember waiting for the new one to hit stores so I could run out and buy it, ended up subscribing to it for years.

I remember calling the Nintendo Hotline a few times as well for certain games growing up.

No internet, nothing but rumours from class mates and the occasional Nintendo Power or EGM.

Off topic, but man, those were the days.  I remember the fun trying to solve a level by talking with your friends.  No instant google soup like today.  Smiley

Yeah, we were definitely forced to think as kids to beat the games.  I remember being stuck for ages on certain games.  Beating games back then without cheats and minimal help sure was a lot more satisfying.
111  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Stop discussing war and politics. You are feeding the fire. on: October 13, 2014, 02:06:20 AM
There is no need to discuss war or the vastly great, illusive, power of the government.

By speaking of the government and their doings, you are giving them power, you are manifesting their control over reality into existence.

Your thoughts create your reality.  The truth is, the government does not rule the world, you do.  We control everything about this world as individuals in a collective.

Stop focusing on what you perceive to be negative and it will stop manifesting in life.

The world is turning into a beautiful place.  Unless you believe the government can convince their armies to slaughter every child that stands on this earth, there is no reason to fear the future.  We are the future.

Humans forgot how to live as a child even as they age.  Let go of the past and live in the moment of now.  Each day is a new day.  What made us young as children was the light we each held as we entered this earth.

Regain that light by bettering your physical and mental self and others around you.

If you wish to end the horror you see in the world, all we must do is spread the light from ourselves to one another.  We do not need to fight.  All we need is love.  Love spreads endlessly.

LOL! Yes, lets stop talking politics and war, lets ignore whats happening in the world and bury our heads in the sand.  These things need to be discussed so we learn, and we need to try and keep the government accountable for their actions.  Then again, you refuse to work, pay back your debts, and make a mockery of the system.  So I doubt it matters to you what the government does.

People can choose to ignore whats really going on, but those are the people that usually end up homeless and depend on others to survive.
112  Other / Off-topic / Re: winter is just around the corner, How are you keeping warm? on: October 12, 2014, 11:42:43 PM
Hugging my mom.. That keeps me warm.
Here I was thinking this forum is mostly for adults.  Roll Eyes
Real men hug their moms.
I hug my mom all the time. I don't snuggle up with her to keep warm. I have a wife.
Rather than put on my 2KWH heater, I will have some mining equipment around the house, Why not earn as I burn?

I cant sleep in alot of noise, I was wondering what I could use in/near the bedroom for heat?

The older KNC units were fairly quiet, 700W for 500GHs is not bad, and they are cheap now.

Whats the quietest miner you can think of?

Have you ever thought about ear plugs?  You can buy ones that are specifically meant for sleeping with.  i have the same issue as you, I can hear the damn clock ticking in the next room some nights.

I decided to try a pair of disposable ones to see if they would annoy me, and I was shocked at how noticeable they weren't, so I purchased some quality sleeping ones.  They are extremely comfortable, can't even really feel them.  The only problem I've found is that I have even more trouble sleeping without them.  Also, there is sleeping through the alarm.  But a vibrating alarm on the cell phone took care of that.

I have baseboard heating in my room and they are extremely quiet except for the odd click.
How do you expect to hear the smoke alarm if it happens to go off, or a window breaking and a burglar or an animal is ransacking your house? With enough miners you can heat your whole house and if you keep them in the basement you'll never hear 'em.

I wondered that myself so I tested it.  You can definitely still hear the smoke alarm if it goes off, plus I have a dog that goes absolutely ape shit when it goes off.  As for the window breaking the dog has that covered as well. They don't block out everything but they do take out a lot of the low level noise that keeps me awake at night.  It isn't a perfect solution, but I sleep a lot better at night when I wear them.

114  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What can I use Bitcoin miners for other than mining? on: October 10, 2014, 11:09:35 PM
Why does everyone keep saying heat when this thing will have you in a hospital by 2016... Trust me your bitcoins won't help then. I think everyone is trying to sell their miners right now honestly

Why would heat from a Bitcoin miner be dangerous. My undervolted S1s run at only 40C. That's less than laptops, playstations, etc. I've never heard any report that heat from computers can be dangerous.

Heat from computers or any electronic devices will not harm you.
But the chemicals released from these extremely heated electronic components are harmful inhalants.
This is a documented stuff and papers are available on the internet.
From normal electronic devices like television, refrigerators, etc they are very much negligible.

Incase of these mining hardwares, their build quality is too low due to low life expectancy.
But they are running at extreme conditions for mining so the chemicals silently released are multifold than the others.

Interesting, never really thought about the health effects. I'll have to look into this.  SO what you are saying is that anyone who has mining hardware regardless if its for mining or heat is putting their health at risk.  If the risk are serious, I guess there are going to be some very sick people in the near future.

Perhaps I'll move them out to the back shed if possible to take the edge off the cold.  Have to keep it heated slightly to keep the moisture down.  Or perhaps it's just time to let them die off before I do, LOL!
115  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What can I use Bitcoin miners for other than mining? on: October 10, 2014, 02:22:40 AM
I currently have 4 cube miners running in my house. As the temp is starting to drop, I am using them to heat my spare bedroom, den, and living room. I have baseboard heating and they currently are doing just as good of a job. Haven't had to turn on the baseboard heaters, and I still have the windows open a bit as the miners do a damn good job at heating the rooms.   I bought one cube back in February and I had the other 3 given to me by a buddy. That's the only reason I'm doing it.

Obviously I'm not getting much in return, but from what I can tell the miners are currently cheaper than using the heaters for electricity, so I figure what the hell.
116  Other / Off-topic / Re: Free $10 - no strings attached! :) on: October 09, 2014, 04:48:53 AM
Nice find Vod, but why didn't you link the post where you read about this at?

It was on my customized Facebook feed.  Not sure if you guys would be able to see it.

No problem, the other guy posted a link already. You gotta be really skeptical about the stuff you see on facebook. Did you see the one claiming red bull contained bull sperm?

hmm thats a whole nother lawsuit. in this day and age, i'm not sure if this would attract or dissuade customers...

Not really, just one of many internet hoaxes out there.  I agree, one must really be skeptical about what is posted on facebook, or even the internet in general.  i was reading one earlier about how if you drink or bathe in bath salts, you can prevent infection form the Ebola virus.  Apparently at least 2 people have died from doing it.

I find it fascinating that the internet is supposed to give us unlimited access to the truth, but many just fall for all the scams.  I see it daily.  It's kinda sad that there are so many scams out there, some are hard to spot.

Remember though, don't believe everything you see on the internet, thats how WWII started.

f you bought at least one Red Bull between January 1, 2002 and October 3, 2014, the company owes you a $10 check or $15 worth of free Red Bull Products. It’s all due to a $13 million lawsuit the beverage company has decided to settle with Benjamin Careathers.

Careathers, a Red Bull drinker, claims that the drink maker misled him and other consumers with its slogan “Red Bull gives you wings.” He says the company advertised some of the benefits of drinking Red Bull include increased performance, concentration and reaction speed. Of course, none of this was ever proven or backed up by scientific evidence.
Bevnet.com quotes the lawsuit as determining:

A 7 oz. cup of drip coffee contains approximately 115 to 175 milligrams of caffeine, depending on the blend, and a 12 oz. serving of Starbucks coffee costs $1.85 and would contain far more caffeine than a regular serving of Red Bull. An 8.4 oz. can of Red Bull contains 80 milligrams of caffeine.
To claim your $10 cash refund, all you need to do is register online at the link below before March 2, 2015.

Again, you don’t need any proof of purchase. See the link for further details.

http://energydrinksettlement.com/claim

(Edit:  looks like it's only for US residents.  blah)

Why would this only be for US residents?  Is Redbull owned by different companies in the USA and Canada?

Also, what happens if more than 1.3 million people claim, since that will equal more than $13 million?

At any rate, I love these lawsuits.  I received a settlement as part of the lawsuit again Danone for their Activia yogurt.  It's about time these companies are held accountable for their bullshit claims. Then again, I wouldn't mind if energy drinks like Red Bull were banned altogether. Those fuckers are addictive! They are also really bad for your health overall.
It was a settlement for US courts, this kind of bullshit would never happen in other countries.  No idea what happens if that many people claim it, which could easily happen with just needing to drink one Red Bull in the last decade Shocked

US courts make sense, LOL! Sometimes I just choose to over think things.  Was looking into this a little further, and some sites are claiming it's not entirely true what is being stated.  The $13 million settlement is indeed real, but it looks to be limited to the first 1 million people who claim.

http://globalflare.com/red-bull-false-advertising-settlement-scam/

From the article:

The Numbers Don’t Add Up

The problem is that Red Bull sells over 4.5 Billion cans annually. If we were extremely generous and assumed the average consumer purchases 50 cans per year, that would mean that at least 90 million people purchase a Red Bull each year. Even if Red Bull only gave $10 checks to the people that purchased a Red Bull in 2013 (forget everyone since 2002), they would need to pay out $900 million.

The $13 million dollar settlement won’t even cover a fraction of the claims.

Here’s The Good News:

You can register online or download their form and mail it in – if you’re one of the first million people to do so, you might get $10 or $15 worth of Red Bull products.

Just wondering, you say this would never happen in other countries, how so?  I've seen similar lawsuits happen in Canada and other countries.

Wake up to what?

From what I can see, everything is back online and is working as it should. All I see on reddit is a lot of unfounded accusations and doom and gloom.  Then again, I hate reddit.  So if I am missing something, fill me in.

Not sure why people can't just provide information if they know something, instead of being vague and pointing out a thread with a lot of unfounded information and accusations.
120  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal: Newbie sandbox on: October 08, 2014, 01:15:24 AM
Can we please setup a newbie sandbox (sub) where users have to reach 50 posts before they can join the grown up guys? That would reduce trolling a lot. I mean, seriously, the amount of accounts which are created for plane trolling seem to be still increasing.

There used to be a newbie jail when i first signed up back in January I believe.  You could only post in certain ares until your member level reached a certain level.  Not a fan of a minimum post requirement as people will just post 50 garbage posts to get out.

It was done away with for whatever reason.  Likely because it wasn't very successful. I would assume people would just make an account and wait until they were out before they would troll.

I think the best thing to do is just report the posts and let the mods take care of it.
