101  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: BitMarket.eu - should we accept USD? (USD added) on: May 05, 2011, 09:50:38 PM
Hey, just saw this thread and registered, the site looks really nice Cheesy
Wish you lots of success!

Just a thing, you should put a time scale on the main page graph.

Gods, I haven't seen you in ages! How are you getting on man?

Doing very well!

I have to say last few IRL months didn't leave me much more internet access (and more generally time) than : "anyone wants to withdraw money? if yes send", "is the bitcoin client dead? if yes restart" and then back to IRL...

I now officially have much more time to take care of the bitcoin central business and compete with your new fancy exchange Cheesy

From what I just read you found a legal way to run the exchange acting as an escrow but not have real time trading the mtgox/bc way ?

Well, by the end of May we may be switching to the "mtgox way". For now is just BTC Escrow. :/

Did you find any?

OKay, we have added an option of selecting USD as a currency. Please note that it is not recommended to select this along with International transfer payment method, since the charges could be high.

Still working on implementing the rating system for safe Paypal trading.

The ISP support said:

It's largely a TCP option flood.  We are making adjustments to mitigate this and the smaller miscellaneous attacks also targeting the site, it should come online shortly.

What was the actual reason for btcex's DDoSing you ?

Does he claim that you speculate/manipulate market or what ?

The guy who mailed me requests to pay him $7000 (yep, got $2000 more because I reported him) first told me he wants rates down, then told me he needs the money.

This is ridiculous. It's really unfortunate that this guy doesn't get economics as well as DDoSing.

Site seems back up, ISP is doing its job.

I am getting:

Code:
Error 324 (net::ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE): The server closed the connection without sending any data.

Nevermind, it's okay now.

106  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Earn 131BTC or 12-13BTC for getting shops/organisations to accept Bitcoin! on: May 04, 2011, 11:52:46 PM

BTW, I have a Pagerank bookmarklet that doesn't depend on any 3rd party service, but takes everything directly from Google: http://ottodv.com/pr

ROTFL, and I told YOU the pagerank was wrong. Sorry again.
107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doesn't Coinpal Sue Paypal? on: May 04, 2011, 11:47:04 PM
Yea stupid idea I suppose...

With the number of people who have had their money held for 180 days through PayPal... if a class action was at all possible, I am sure it would have been created by now.

No worries, BitCoin will take care of Paypal sooner of later.
108  Economy / Marketplace / Re: 1 BTC for my 44 Min Yoga Nidra Meditation MP3 on: May 04, 2011, 08:15:14 PM
You shouldn't be. Wink  You probably never have relaxed as deeply as you can get with yoga nidra (save for in your early childhood, or something).

I think I've because I'm doing Yoga/relaxation lessons with a very good teacher. Nevertheless, I've no problem doing relaxation or even meditation alone. I only need a good background music and they are very hard to find (most yoga CD are crap).

Also, english si not my native language and I appreciate relaxation in my own language ;-)

I have plenty of those.
109  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Hand Blown Glass Art on: May 04, 2011, 07:55:31 PM
I'm currently in the process of becoming a glass blowing apprentice pretty soon, I was wondering once I learn this skill in the future if anybody would be interested in buying some hand blown glass art in exchange for BTC. And I mean I'll make whatever your heart desires, not just 1 specific category. I can't make any promises YET but its pretty much a done deal. Thoughts?

Can you make a BitSphere?
110  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: MTGox vs mysterious Russia on: May 04, 2011, 07:43:10 PM

... I am proud of our community that we didn't let those incidents affect our faith in Bitcoin. Of course, these attacks were not aimed at the Bitcoin network itself (which is not easy to be attacked), only the websites related to it; nevertheless, some people might have lost faith for a while.

I suppose there was more greed than fear in the face of those ddoses i.e. something along one of the following lines:

-- aha, I now have some time to transfer some money to mtgox before we hit 5$
-- aha, maybe everyone get scared and stop mining and I'll be able to mine a few more bitcoins while difficulty is still lower than 1 million.

Be careful, if a weird russian approaches you with a ransom request.

I had a guy approach me and asking $5000 via LR, when I said no he said he'd attack again, and generated a ddos. His ddos was different from what I had before, so I'd guess lots of people are seeing in bitcoin an opportunity to make money.

I strongly recommend against doing anything those guys request, and even replying may be a bad idea, just click "spam".

Any chance you could post those messages for the world to see?

If he told us he would have to kill us. Wink

Great work on resolving the problem and defending subsequent DDoS attempts Tux.  This whole event has made me feel a bit more secure with the valuation of BTC.  For such an extensive (multi-day) attack shutting down the largest exchange, the price has barely been affected.  I was expecting a price dump into the $2.00-2.25 range as a result of people getting scared.

Congratulations from me as well. Also, I am proud of our community that we didn't let those incidents affect our faith in Bitcoin. I would love to find out who organised this attack. I wonder would he be equally courageous face to face.

+1 to BitQuant and +1 to snowdog

I think you meant to put this somewhere else? Smiley

The site is back. We have fixed some minor problems, should be working much faster now.
115  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitMarket.eu DDoS attacked as well on: May 03, 2011, 08:47:10 PM
Just so you know, I am moving the site so it is down right now because of me, not because of an attack.

May not be back before tomorrow, though.

Is it me, or is mtgox down again?

Can anybody confirms that the bitcoin forum got DDOSed recently?

It looked pretty much like that earlier today, but perhaps it was just heavy traffic.

Thanks for the info. (Un)fortunately it will be long before we even have that much there. Still, we must do something about that, but I don't think I can afford paying for a dedicated server with DDoS protection. Any idea how much that would cost per month?

Try the VPS service from Diablo-D3 (ask him on IRC, he'll show you)

BitMarket is on a VPS already. I was thinking about a DS. Is mtgox on a DS?
