101  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lies told to cover up gambling habit on: April 26, 2024, 08:24:52 PM
I understand your point completely, sometimes in oder to avoid too much explanations that will arise from telling the truth because sometimes they may not be able to understand completely the truth the way it is especially when it has to do with gambling like this, sometimes people just like the reddit guy will just hide to even avoid bringing to the knowledge of others about their gambling habits so they don't get t o lie or even defend a truth that's been told. Sometimes these are just mechanism to help them still maintain their relationships which they still find very important to them away from gambling so in other to protect it they keep the drama away.

I think it will be even more helpful if it can be spoken about with their patterns probably in a way that you get them to understand that you gat it in control and it wouldn't be detrimental to the family because most times the fear of the effects of gambling to the family could be reasons why some patterns will want to condemned and criticize the habit.
I'm a straightforward person and prefer to be honest about my beliefs; if you're asking my opinion, you'd be expecting my actual view, not a lie that won't hurt your feelings. However, some subjects are a little controversial, such as gambling or cryptocurrency investments, where telling a few white lies is far easier and more convenient than explaining the whole situation, which is usually something that I prefer not doing.

Lying inside a relationship for petty stuff, such as your desire to gamble, is setting your relationship on the wrong foot, and even you see it as something negative because it's likely that you're addicted and have to hide, not only from your partner but from yourself as well.
102  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Inflation Necessary on: April 26, 2024, 07:13:57 PM
Inflation is necessary to maintain a healthy & stable economy. It encourages spending & investment by reducing the value of money over time. This stimulates economic growth & prevents stagnation. Inflation also allows for adjustments in wages & prices ensuring that they remain in line with changing market conditions. A moderate level of inflation can help to reduce the burden of debt & encourage borrowing which can be beneficial for individuals & businesses. Excessive inflation though can be detrimental leading to uncertainty & erosion of purchasing power. It’s important to strike a balance & maintain controlled inflation. We are here on a Bitcoin forum though, we know the antidote for inflation & loss of purchasing power, i.e. buy Bitcoin.
I think this is the best definition given in this thread so far! As someone who has studied economics and the principles of inflation, I can confirm that a minor increase of 1% to 2% per year is healthy and contributes to the economy, showing signs of growth.

People, including the OP in this case, are often portraying inflation as something negative; this is true when it gets out of hand. The economy became stagnant during COVID-19 due to quarantine measures and was then abruptly met with increasing energy prices that occurred before the Ukrainian-RRussian war broke out. It quickly became a vicious cycle, and inflation has now tremendously increased while salaries have seen no major improvement.
103  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lies told to cover up gambling habit on: April 26, 2024, 05:32:44 PM
Nope- I do not think I have lied with anything related to gambling as I am very open with anyone who asks me about my experiences.

When I used to gamble, I actually tell everything to my friends and family so that they would know my experience. Even if I experience something that is negative, I always tell them the truth since I believe that they deserve to know everything. Not to mention, by telling my experiences, they could also discern and decide whether they want to try gambling or not.

On the story that you provided OP, it was painful for me to read it. I think our partners deserve to know everything even if it is something that could affect the overall relationship. If you lie on the small things, that could escalate and create a snowball effect into something bigger- a lie that can transcend into different small lies that would eventually evolve into a bigger problem in the future.
You could possibly say that such a lie could be deemed a white lie—those insignificant ones that we say to avoid hurting others or because the truth is more complicated to explain. Although I also believe that it's best to be open and straightforward, lying can put you in difficult situations if you're caught, because eventually you will be. However, this isn't the worst part; I find it extremely saddening that the favorite part of the person in the Reddit post is to hide in the toilet in order to gamble, or generally speaking, to be forced to hide what you're doing.
104  Economy / Economics / Re: Prioritizing strong foundation over quick gains on: April 26, 2024, 02:56:08 PM
You are not wrong, but at the same time how many people that invest in altcoins actually know what they are doing? If a person is an expert trader, without a doubt it would be a mistake to not take advantage of the opportunities they have right in front of them.

But the majority of those that invest in altcoins are not expert traders and instead they are noobs that cannot distinguish a scam from a good project, and people like that should concentrate on just finding the best coin they can and hold it for as long as they can.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure if there's such a thing as an expert. Altcoins—not talking about Ethereum or Solana, etc.—but those new ones that are popping up every single day are a pure gamble. It's all a matter of preference. Until recently, with Binance's Launchpool projects, I was never involved with altcoins and preferred the steady growth of Bitcoin. However, these new tokens yielded decent returns within a very short timeframe, and it was intriguing to say the least. They're either good or bad investment strategies; they're hit or miss. If you're up for the challenge, then they may be worth a try.

Ultimately, I still prefer being patient, such as I've done with Bitcoin, I've more than doubled my investment's value within a period of less than three years.
105  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: April 26, 2024, 07:23:04 AM
Very true, now AEK is leading with a 4 point difference and only 3 matches for them to go. The hopes other teams have for the first place have become slim. It was also surprising to see Olympiakos not winning against Aris. Congrats for Aris being able to put up such a fight but I just wonder, how's Olympiakos going to contest Aston Villa later in the conference league final four if they can't even get a win from Aris on the local league? Best of luck to Olympiakos because they'll need it hehe...

Well anyway, for the next matchday I think a reasonable bet would be the over 1.75 on PAOK vs AEK.

Looking over their head to head history, most of their matches had at least 2 goals scored, so I think the odds are also not that bad.

It's crazy that PAOK would get a draw against Lamia. They really shot themselves on the foot with this one, slashing their chances to earn the title this year to nearly 0.
That's true. I had higher expectations from both matches, but they fell short. It was really unexpected and quite frustrating, to be honest. Anyway, we're not going to give up on two lost bets; this weekend has a few decent opportunities. Olympiakos vs. Lamia is probably a guaranteed win, but I'm not expecting the best odds from them. Asteras Tripolis vs. OFI is another one I might opt for; it'd be kind of frustrating to lose this match as well, while PAOK vs. AEK and Panathinaikos vs. AEK are going to be interesting ones. I'm expecting AEK to win over PAOK and Panathinaikos to win against Aris, which is on a losing streak for the last 4 or 5 matches.

106  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Beyond Wagering on: April 25, 2024, 08:35:09 PM
I'm not sure if that counts, but I was never into sports; I'd never watch a football match, except for special occasions such as the finals of the European Super League and when my country was playing. In simple words, I was never interested in or intrigued by football. After I became involved with casinos and gambling, I acknowledged the money-making opportunities I'd open by participating in sports betting, and I don't regret it. Now, I occasionally watch football, at least once or twice per week, mostly on Sundays that I have my day off, while I've made a reasonable amount of money through bets.
107  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Streaming community are getting worst!!! on: April 25, 2024, 07:23:15 PM
To be honest, I don't find that too big of a deal. On the one hand, I understand what the OP is mentioning: these streamers are sometimes affiliated with the casinos and often promote unhealthy gambling habits and unrealistic expectations. On the other hand, those who participate in gambling activities accept the risks involved; thus, the streamers aren't to blame if we're reckless with how we manage our finances; that's not their problem if we gamble away our salary. On top of that, no one is forcing us to watch their content; if we suspect negative or misleading behavior from them, we can simply skip their content.
108  Other / Meta / Re: Post per day/ per month falling. on: April 25, 2024, 07:24:54 AM
Thing is this is expected. The whole site is dated and besides the OGs like me and those that are looking to make a living out of this forum, there's not much people on the net that would want to visit the droll white and blue bitcoin forum site anymore. But even if that weren't the case, we also have to understand that there are just even more reliable sources of information on the web right now when it comes to crypto. Reputable crypto influencers and analysts who knows their shit and are willing to impart their knowledges to the users, with ease of access too cause users can just get back to watching their shit without a shitposter obscuring the flow of info, among other reasons, that causes people to just lose confidence in this site altogether.

Plus there are quite a number of people in here that are appalled by the recent changes in the forum, particularly with the banning of mixers. Where a good amount of people here who have been in mixer campaigns switched to altcointalks or other sites to chase that bread.
Well, all forums are generally outdated; it's not just Bitcointalk; the user interface is likely to be the least to blame. People want more interactive content, such as videos and short reels, while the rise of social media has created a large number of pages and groups regarding pretty much every subject you can imagine, from cryptocurrencies to investments to car-related pages, all of which someday had their own forum. The mixer situation certainly impacted the forum; however, I don't think there's a large number of people who moved to the other forum; the majority are active on both simultaneously. However, that has allowed AltcoinTalks to grow tremendously compared to what it was six months ago; I didn't even acknowledge that such a forum existed.
109  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: April 25, 2024, 05:42:51 AM
What an absolute defeat! Both matches, Lamia vs. PAOK and Aris vs. Olympiakos, ended in a tie with a score of 1-1, while AEK won against Panathinakos with a score of 3-0. I was confident about AEK but wasn't expecting them to score three goals. So unfortunately, my two bets yielded no results, and I ended up losing a few bucks on what I considered relatively secure bets, but anyway, that's fine. There are no guarantees in gambling, and we shouldn't expect anything, even if it looks like a secure option. We'll see how it goes over the weekend.

How did you do? Any wins?
110  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Greek 2023–24 Super League Predictions & Discussion on: April 24, 2024, 10:46:03 AM
So it's an interesting time to watch the super league, around the end and we're still seing 4 teams having chances to hit the top. It's quite a fierce battle for the spots in international leagues and the year's title. PAOK is 4 points behind with a match less and Olympiakos 5. And yet a few matches with them against the top team's in the league. Realistically speaking Panathinaikos and AEK are better positioned at this point.

So let's see, for the next match day:

I think the odds for betting on Olympiakos are pretty decent. Probably worth giving it a shot, Olympiakos is having a pretty good time with them being also on the semi finals of europa conference league, surely they could do well against Aris.
There are three quite interesting matches for today: Lamia vs. PAOK, Aris vs. Olympiakos, and AEK vs. Panathinaikos. In the first one, I'm confident in PAOK's victory. Lamia has lost quite a few matches lately, and by no means can it be compared to PAOK. Aris vs. Olympiakos is going to be an interesting one, and I've chosen to go with Olympiakos, and lastly, AEK vs. Panathinaikos is going to be a tough one, but I'm going to go with AEK. I'm not quite sure if I'll go ahead and bet on all three matches. I'm certainly betting on Lamia vs. PAOK, but for the other two, I'm still not sure. I might consider Aris vs. Olympiakos as well, but I'm certainly leaving the last one out. Any thoughts?
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Binance Launchpool, a possible earning opportunity? on: April 24, 2024, 05:41:37 AM
For some unknown reason, I didn't receive a notification from the Binance app and saw it randomly in my promotional emails. A new launchpool, Renzo Protocol (REZ), has been announced and is open for farming as we speak. It just opened a few hours ago. According to Binance, Renzo Protocol (REZ) is one of the top liquid restaking protocols (whatever that means). Staking started on April 24th at 02:00 UTC and will be open for 6 days, while it'll be listed on the exchange on April 30th at 15:00. From the previous Launchpool, I've noticed that rewards have been reduced for FDUSD staking and increased for BNB; this applies to this one as well, so it's likely to be the new standard.

Although April's Launchpool hasn't been the best for myself, I'm still holding SAGA and OMNI, which have lost their value by almost 50%. This is going to be the third project in a month. Let's hope it yields better returns than the previous two.
112  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why the Reluctance? on: April 23, 2024, 08:37:08 AM
The problem should be from Nigeria government, maybe their law and regulation does not go in a way that it fits in with what the casino have in mind, and that might make them not to operate in such country. Casinos are for business, and any country that their regulation does not suit with the casino will likely not provide their service.

However, that should not be any problem, as there are so many casinos in Nigeria that are operating and their service is similar to sportbetting, so you can  atch your fun in those casinos.
This is probably the reason. At least in my country, Greece, gambling is perfectly legal; "centralized" casinos (not sure if that's the right term) even go ahead and deduct the income tax when you withdraw any amount over €100. The majority of cryptocurrency casinos I've noticed are banned, you're prompted to a government website that also has a listed with all banned casinos and services. I'm guessing it's firstly due to their licenses, which aren't supposedly recognized as established casinos, and secondly, and most importantly, because they cannot monitor them to deduct any income taxation. I'm using Cloudflare DNS to access those websites and haven't come across any issues. I'll never resort to using any kind of casino that automatically claims a part of my winnings.
113  Other / Meta / Re: Post per day/ per month falling. on: April 20, 2024, 05:29:42 PM
I'm no expert, but I've lived through different periods on the forum. Before the merit system was introduced, there was a large variety of signature campaigns, some paying literal peanuts, but they still attracted plenty of users, with the majority being full and new ones being introduced quite frequently. Although the merit system has cut down on a lot of spammers, and I find it necessary because anyone could simply rank up to Legendary just by being active, it has potentially discouraged newer users who aren't very familiar with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

The number of signature campaigns drastically reduced after 2018, before I quit, while the ban on mixers shut down plenty of other services, which has played an important role in why posts per day or month have reduced during the past three months.
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Shiba Inu token, is there a future for this? on: April 20, 2024, 04:15:58 PM
I believe that this topic fits better in the altcoin discussion section, but anyway. I'm personally not fond of altcoins; I've never really bothered with them, and any involvement has been through Binance's launchpool projects; otherwise, I wouldn't invest in any. From how I see things, some provide great short-term opportunities, supposing that you're lucky. This is also the case with Shiba Inu; it's practically a copy of Dogecoin. Both are meme coins with no purpose whatsoever; they're driven by hype often caused by their communities or influencers (see Elon Musk with Doge), which may yield great results in a short time frame but seems unsuitable for the long term as it serves no actual purpose.
115  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: No gambling today due to bitcoin high transaction fee. on: April 20, 2024, 03:24:34 PM
I've stopped using Bitcoin for gambling since 2019 or 2020. I find it as a waste of money, why use such a valuable asset for gambling purposes when there are so many alternatives available? I've used altcoins such as Doge or Stellar, but I'm mostly using stablecoins as it's the safest way to preserve your funds. Not to mention that Bitcoin has relatively high fees for minor amounts compared to all other alternatives.
116  Economy / Economics / Re: Is Bitcoin’s bull run coming to an end? on: April 20, 2024, 01:25:43 PM
Tell me you’re a noob without telling me you’re a noob. Come on man, this is embarrassing, Bitcoins volatility is a feature not a bug & a 3.78% dip is nothing. The block reward halving has only just passed, the bull run has barely even started, don’t talk stupid.
I didn't see anyone opening a thread when Bitcoin rose by 3.78%. The OP is likely to be new to the scene; after all, he's a newbie, even though this doesn't necessarily mean much. Perhaps the OP also anticipated a huge rise due to Halving's hype; the forum is pretty much filled with threads talking about it. The bull run is yet to start and may even take a few months before it gets going, and it's not like Bitcoin has severely crashed; it's at approximately $64,000; the previous ATH was at $69,000; it's only a minor decrease.
117  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tropicana, 3rd oldest casino in Vegas, shutting down after 67 years on: April 20, 2024, 10:50:07 AM
I've personally never heard of it before nor have I ever been in a physical casino before. Despite that, it's still a shame such an establishment is shutting down, for the establishment itself due to its history and the employees themselves. It's a huge resort and according to the article, it's being shut down to make room for a new baseball stadium. With that being said, I'm wondering if it was facing financial troubles or not, because that's something that was not mentioned. Before reading the article, I was almost too quick to judge and claim that it didn't have the necessary audience anymore, due to the rise of online gambling, but it seems I was wrong.

Nevertheless, it's a huge shame that such a historical and intresting building is going to be demolished.
118  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: After losing the money in gambling, what is your strategy on: April 20, 2024, 09:22:35 AM
This is pure addiction and where most gamblers fails is having this mentality of playing more in other to recover previous losses, this mentality have led to so many gamblers losing even more than they would have lost if they stopped chasing losses.
Severally we have discussed on the effect of taking a loan to gamble because if you lose you will be faced with the trauma of your loss and the outstanding debts I have gotten yourself into , it can even make someone go crazy especially when your loan is due.
It's a vicious cycle, and even though it's a widely discussed matter, a great number of gamblers fall into the mentality of trying to recoup their losses. Anyone who's not addicted and has a clear state of mind can acknowledge  that 9 times out of 10, leads to nowhere but more debt. This is one thing, taking a loan to satisfy your gambling urges is something unacceptable and it's bound to have a negative outcome. Eventually, OP's friend will lose all the loaned money and go further in debt.

In such cases, drastic measures are required, such as blocking access to gambling websites or even the internet, not allowing them to have money in hand, informing a relative or someone close and taking them to a professional to seek assistance.
119  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: brazil sanctioned law that taxes online betting in the country on: April 20, 2024, 07:40:47 AM
So this means that if you bet 1000$ in a month, you will be taxed on that 1000$ ? If you lose half of the amount, you still have to pay the tax on the amount you placed the bet. But in case you win 5000$ from this amount, now the tax will be on 1000$ or 5000$ as the tax is usually on the income  Huh Therefore i am unclear here as the gamblers will pay the tax on their profits or on the amount they will use to bet on ?

Secondly, people can bet using online platforms and pay with crypto and can avoid the taxes. The tax authorities can only monitor the deposits, withdraws and gambling activities on the physical casino or online casino operating within the taxed country. Is it so  Huh
At least in my country, if I'm not mistaken because I've only used cryptocurrency casinos and never bothered with those casinos, you're taxed when you withdraw. Thus, if you deposit $100, win $1,000 but keep it in the account, you're fine to use the balance as you please. Thus, if you end up losing all $1,000, then you don't have to pay taxes, because you've practically haven't yielded any income.

You can use cryptocurrency casinos, and you can remain fully under the radar if you're using decentralized services for deposits and withdrawals.
120  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: brazil sanctioned law that taxes online betting in the country on: April 20, 2024, 06:44:54 AM
This will force gamblers and platforms to go underground in order to evade taxation. That's a steep tax to pay on, and I don't think it's fair for the gamblers to give that big of a share of their winnings to the government. Imagine the government taking a huge cut on your income tax, and still taking another huge cut on a bet you risked yourself to win. It's daylight robbery, and something that people should oppose.

Then again, they can easily use the 'legal reason' why they're doing this. This taxation does not help make the gambling scene legal at all. If anything, it promotes more illegal platforms to flourish because of the tax associated with gambling.
Well, can't you do that already through cryptocurrency casinos? It's awful to hear OP lose such a large percentage of your own earnings due to Brazil's taxation laws. However, as alani123 has previously stated, you also have to pay taxes for any gambling winnings over €100 in Greece; they're automatically deducted when you withdraw, to be precise. It's a shame, because they're immediately taking a decent chunk of your earnings. Fortunately, cryptocurrency casinos still remain under the radar, and provided that you withdraw to a service that has its own debit card, such as Crypto.com, you can theoretically avoid losing money to taxation.
