101  Economy / Services / Re: First Inter-Continental "Buy a Round of Pints" using BTC on: July 16, 2013, 01:28:16 AM
Thread seems to have stalled. Perhaps not enough eyeballs in this part of the site.

I still think it's a great idea, OP - fabulous publicity potential and a bit of inexpensive fun.

I wonder if people are worried about anonymity or cost issues. I just listed my dirtspace country and "3 pints" because you started it off that way - I assume it's not a set requirement.
Calling all half-pints? Third from the sun?    Smiley

Nope, no requirements.  It goes into a pool account and then it goes to the barkeep.
102  Economy / Services / Re: First Inter-Continental "Buy a Round of Pints" using BTC on: July 16, 2013, 01:24:28 AM
Someone just posted a similar article - same bar.  Maybe since BTC is rising, people would be a little more open to the idea....

buy unit for $1299 110BTC
sell unit for $14450 170BTC
one hell of an investment :\

Stop thinking terms of $.
OP probably paid around 110BTC at the time of purchase last year.  What he's asking for is not unreasonable, IMO.

In for 1.  I love the weird looks I get from friedcat tee V.1.   Either you'll get thumbs-up from evident cat haters or angry scowls from evident cat lovers.  I'm waiting for someone to actually ask me what it means.....

(You should move this to "Goods", though)

I'd have to agree.  I have three orders before you and still have two more to go...
111  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Garr255 reputation on: June 30, 2013, 08:56:22 PM
But from other points of view he still did act in bad faith, lie, cheat, and steal, correct?

Also, these are only the things that he was caught doing, who knows what other ways he manipulated his to go his way.

The only thing of all of those that I did was "cheat and act in bad faith". I acted in the best faith of my shareholders, but not the bidders. I did not tell a mistruth during the whole incident, and I did not steal anything. Please just ask the two people involved!

Whoa there - you should have just let your shame get buried with new scam accusations.  You lied repeatedly during the initial stages of the investigation - at least three times by my records.  Do we really need to revisit this?  You cheated legitimate auction bidders by inflating the price of your auction, you lied about it when you were caught, and you finally capitulated only when there was no other way out.

Did this just turn into an auction?
113  Economy / Services / Re: First Inter-Continental "Buy a Round of Pints" using BTC on: June 27, 2013, 12:52:40 PM
I'm surprised more people aren't jumping on this.  What's a pint, like .07BTC?  You couldn't ask for better press for the price.

My opinion with the BitCoin economy?  If you don't support the business that accepts BitCoin, there's no reason for the business to continue accepting BTC.  If business doesn't see BitCoin as a viable currency, then it will just wind up being us trading BitCoins with each other.

I try to buy something every week from a business that accepts BTC

Sad thing. No one puts any real effort into their scams anymore.   At least the guy with a CPU heat sink on top of a beagle board made me chuckle for a few minutes.

I'll start the official pint tally.

kibblesnbits - USA - 3 pints

Started a thread in the "Services" (where else?) section.

Lets post a "pint" count there.  When we're ready we can do a "board name / location / pint amount" list.

What better service is a pint of beer from fellow bitcoiners?  I came across this thread in the Press section:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=243366.0

How cool would it be to do this?  How great would it be to get a live feed of the transaction?  I PM'd JohnK to see if he'd be willing to hold the central wallet.  I'm in for three pints.  Who's in?

Post from "Press"

Very cool article.  I have an idea.  First inter-continental "buy a round " on BTC.  If you're outside of the UK, post here an amount you'd be willing to spend (maybe 2 pints?).   Set up a pool wallet and when we have enough, get a time and date and send it to the pub.  Extra points for a live video feed and the patrons holding up a "Thanks, bitcointalk.org!" sign.

I'll start it off with whatever the cost is for three pints at that pub.  Could JohnK or someone make a wallet for this?

Here's the pubs Facebook account.  I don't have FB but maybe someone here can contact Luke Parker to set this up.

I say we help our BTC friends in the UK get shnockered.
