10061  Other / Meta / Re: What exactly are the rules of the forum and where do I find them ? on: May 31, 2014, 08:16:39 AM
Mods don't make good appealers, not enough information available. Can't see deleted posts, mod logs, ips, etc.

Well how about just you or a select few mods then? Or do you include yourself in this (I'm not sure if global mods have admin-type privileges regular mods don't etc)? Is basically the only person you can appeal to is theymos after a ban? Can you remove/unban users or is that just an admin? Maybe adding a message to the bans warning that you're unlikely to have bans successfully appealed and whining about it in Meta or to mods won't help would then cut down on some of these threads or emails/messages to staff (if something like that isn't already there).
10062  Other / Meta / Re: Should bitcointalk account trading be banned? on: May 31, 2014, 08:04:10 AM
Unless they're already an escrow (which I doubt they will be) you shouldn't really be trusting new escrows that suddenly pop up without many existing feedbacks for this type of trade and/or who aren't already active members of the community (not to mention there are already plenty of trusted escrows around so why take a punt on a new one until they're established?). Of course, it's not impossible for this scam to happen, but very unlikely, and you're never going to stamp out scams completely from any type of account so it's not that relevant or big of an issue I don't think.
10063  Other / Meta / Re: Should bitcointalk account trading be banned? on: May 31, 2014, 07:52:04 AM
If a scammer wanna scam he will do it with bought accounts or without them, also i dont think that a hero member with green trust will sell his account and thats the only way to scam a bigger amount

You don't have to be a hero member with green trust to be trusted. I've seen people allegedly selling a Senior with green trust. They could surely use that account to play out a few decent, simultaneous cons.

And that's why the feedback system shouldn't be considered definitive and used just as a guide. It's not that difficult to effectively "buy" or acquire positive trust around here. It's unlikely that the person selling the account is going to be an active and valued member of the community regardless of the feedback so if you're  not familar with that user you should be cautious, and as I stated above, if you use escrow for every trade then you should be fine.

It should have never been allowed in the first place... There are -absolutely- no pros from being able to buy accounts, unless you're a scammer.

Well the admin/mods reasoning/logic is that it's essentially very hard or nearly impossible to enforce or police, so it's allowed. And there are big pros for people buying them to use on signature deals and that is what most are seemingly sold for and not to actually scam.
10064  Other / Off-topic / Re: Movie Recommendation Station on: May 31, 2014, 07:34:13 AM
I doubt her movies contain more propaganda than you usually do.

Maleficent looks pretty dark. Surprised to see it was made by Disney/is a kids film. Jolie looks pretty evil on the poster.
10065  Other / Meta / Re: Request: Separate "Computer Hardware" subforum on: May 31, 2014, 07:25:21 AM
Yeah, I'd probably vote for this. I don't go in the Hardware section much but I think easily being able to specifically differentiate mining equipment from the rest of the hardware would be beneficial.
10066  Other / Meta / Re: Can all of the Paid Signature Offers go in their own Sub-forum under Services? on: May 31, 2014, 07:21:24 AM
Too many subforums also makes it messy. I think a seperate one for mining could be warranted but I'm not sold on this one. 10 or so threads in their own subforum is going to look pretty bare. Unless there's a significant increase in signature campaigns I don't think it's needed and doubt the mods/admins will either.
10067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kevin Newman (CTV NEWS) says bitcoin is the financial story of our time. on: May 31, 2014, 07:09:36 AM
I also agree and hope he's right. We need more mainstream/public figures singing its praises or highlighting the revolutionary possibilities of it rather than slandering and slagging it off all the time by fearmongering and associating it with mainly negatives such as its use by criminals etc.

People over the world still do not really get it and most of citizens do not really know WHAT is bitcoin.

We need more time but I like when they talk about Bitcoin in media.

The majority of people may not get it yet, but with more and more headlines like this I think they'll be gently swayed over time.
10068  Economy / Services / Re: WE PAY FOR SIGNATURE EVEN MORE. UP TO 0.0016 BTCs PER POST. WEEKLY PAYOUTS. on: May 31, 2014, 07:00:11 AM
What do you mean? As far as I'm aware it's still ongoing but people might want to wait before signing up until he irons out the few issues here. I think he stated before that he doesn't work on the weekends so users will probably just have to wait. I'd suggest contacting their customer service on their actual website rather than here, but no doubt people will be complaining all through the weekend anyway.
10069  Other / Meta / Re: Should bitcointalk account trading be banned? on: May 31, 2014, 06:52:20 AM
My personal view is that 99% of time the only reason someone would be looking to buy an account is to defraud and steal from other forum members.

I think you're very wrong on this. Probably 99% of people buy higher activity accounts to participate in signature deals. It's up to the community to use their wits and not trust a user with no trade history or feedback or just because he's a Snr or Hero Member. If you use escrow as you should then there shouldn't be any problems.

I personally dislike it, because someone could easily buy a new account and scam with it. But, I mean you should be cautious regardless of who you trade with.

Why buy one when you can just create an account? Most scammers are from newb accounts or long-conners but you can't do anything about them. Again, if you use escow you should be fine.
10070  Other / Meta / Re: What exactly are the rules of the forum and where do I find them ? on: May 31, 2014, 06:46:08 AM
Would it not be beneficial to allow banned users to message mods only, rather than ban them from sending messages completely (if this isn't already the case)? I think it'd cut down significantly the number of people who create new accounts just to contact you about it or make their case here.
10071  Other / Off-topic / Re: Favorite The Big Bang Theory character on: May 31, 2014, 06:32:28 AM
Everybody loves Sheldon, but personally I like Leonard, he's just so funny in his ways of dealing with Sheldon and how he's the only sane one of the 4 main male characters. And Raj is also hilarious in how he can't talk to women and when he's drunk .
Haha Raj can only talk to women when he's drunk Tongue Typical introvert shy Indian guy with no confidence at all  but if he's high no one can match his confidence   and feels like king of the world :p..!

But he got over/was cured of his social anxiety/selective mutism towards women in season 6  Cheesy. It was a funny part of the character though so I'm surprised they got rid of it. I liked the episode where they're on the train and he thinks he's drunk and therfore full of confidence but then realises he's been drinking non-alcoholic beer and his confidence immediately depletes Cheesy.
10072  Economy / Services / Re: [HIRING] Writers for Bitcoin-focused articles on: May 31, 2014, 06:18:28 AM
Would love to write articles for a bit of extra coin. I consider myself a Libertarian Socialist too. Could you give us a few topics and maybe users could knock up an article based on one of them? I have wrote for a couple of websites before and posted news articles for them but it was mainly music review webzine sort of stuff.

Also, what's your website?
10073  Economy / Lending / Re: Former Scammer Atonement on: May 30, 2014, 10:28:33 PM
I have a dilemma. I contacted one person I scammed here but I can't find the other.  The threaf was about a google play card and I had it deleted so my chances of finding him are slim. The only thing I remember is him trading moneypak before vanishing.

You can find this member through your feedback, but it looks like he hinself turned out to be a scammer if you read his feedback: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=594652.new#new
10074  Other / Off-topic / Re: Elliot Rodger Killed 7 and Wounded 7 on: May 30, 2014, 09:33:27 PM
When someone is killed with a hammer no one wants a hammer ban. Yet if it's a gun, then the gun must be at fault. Perhaps it gives people a sense of control to blame a gun rather than face the fact that psychopathic monsters walk among us. If this nut had no access to guns he would have run his victims over with a car or something.
Murder is a common and widespread human behavior. Guns have nothing to do with that. There will always be such people and the best we can do is help them when we can, and help ourselves when we fail.

There's a huge difference between a hammer and a gun. How many hammer spree killings have there been in America? Now I'm just playing devils advocate here, but does America allow people to own rocket launchers and grenades and anti-aircraft guns amongst other things? If murder is part of us then should we be allowed to murder away with any weapons we choose?
10075  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: May 30, 2014, 09:11:47 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211858.0

The trust system is pretty confusing and I think there's a few factors involved but simply put you have to receive feedbacks from people on the default trust list. Keep doing successful trades and you'll probably get green feedback eventually.
10076  Other / Meta / Re: Can all of the Paid Signature Offers go in their own Sub-forum under Services? on: May 30, 2014, 07:53:50 PM
There's only around 10 or so. Not sure that they deserve an entire sub forum on their own.
10077  Other / Meta / Re: What exactly are the rules of the forum and where do I find them ? on: May 30, 2014, 07:48:09 PM
Most of the forum rules are in stickies in the subforums. A list of general rules stickied in Meta would be a good idea I think.

Not sure on the alt accounts of banned users or scammers. Sometimes it seems to be considered ban evasion but other times they seem to let it slide.
10078  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: May 30, 2014, 07:42:06 PM
I have a suggestion: how about linking to the threads on the names of the deals in the simple version table?
10079  Other / Meta / Re: Forum ranks/positions (What do those shiny coins under my name mean?) on: May 30, 2014, 06:52:16 PM
It's too much hassle to investigate and verify scams so there are systems put in place so the community can essentially police itself. Banning users doesn't really do any good as they can just create a new account and start over.
Yes, but what about fake negative trust? Mods, or admins dont bother to remove them and some people get negative trust for no reason. Its good system but admins and mods still need tovget involved in fixing some things.

They don't remove that either unless it from people spamming many users with it. Negative trust that is without a source and from people not on the trusted list is essentially worthless anyway.

Yeah, but it tells on one's ego... Recently, I have found out that some guy in November had given me a negative trust! Grin

Yeah, I've seen a lot of pathetic ones. Its funny when people actually think their feedback marks users as scammers  Grin. I only ever had one from Ritz but he removed it after a while. Funny thing is he left me it after I essentially defended him in one of his threads but he just saw the Primedice sig and accused me of being a PD troll haha.
10080  Economy / Services / Re: I will pay a mod $10 in BTC to do an IP check on two accounts for me right now on: May 30, 2014, 06:37:25 PM
I replied to your other thread in Meta, but what are the chances they'd be using the same IP anyway?

A staff member doing this might get in hot water for doing this because it's a abuse of their privilege. Why don't you make a request in the meta forum?

Can all mods see IPs? I thought it was just theymos/admins?
