1021  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BU Hard Fork or Segwit Soft Fork newbie questions on: March 30, 2017, 05:19:08 PM
Ok coming back to this thread after 2 weeks I heard another forking term which is UASF which makes the matter more confusing.

So in the bitcoin world right now whats the latest status in regards to 4 different forks?:

- Soft Fork Segwit
- Lightning network (Soft Fork?)
- BU Hard Fork
- UASF

Which fork/s above affects bitcoin investors?

Or is Segwit and Lightning Network combined? Why they need combining, is it because one depends on the other to become stronger?

When is the approximate estimated month year when either of the above forks will be activated?

Ok then which of these coins are shitcoins?
1023  Economy / Lending / Re: From UK, what is the safest way to lend BTC? on: March 30, 2017, 05:03:06 PM
Ok one problem I thought straight aways is taking in gold/silver as collateral is the borrower can send fake gold/silver. If that happens then how does the escrow service will help in regards to this matter?
1024  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Poloniex exchange newbie questions on: March 29, 2017, 10:46:26 PM
Ok understood, many thanks.
1025  Economy / Lending / Re: From UK, what is the safest way to lend BTC? on: March 29, 2017, 10:45:07 PM
Ok so for physical collateral you have to meet the borrower in person? I thought the borrower posts the physical collateral to the lender's address.

What kind of physical collaterals have high amount of liquidity?

Or shall I just ignore what I asked above and take your suggestion which is use only altcoins as collateral? Isnt this basically is trading altcoins for bitcoins?
1026  Economy / Lending / From UK, what is the safest way to lend BTC? on: March 29, 2017, 08:32:59 PM
Looking to lend btc and like to know which way has the most proven track record of borrowers making the repayments? Or is there anything out there that guarantees repayments but at a low interest rate?

Im on Poloniex exchange and see the lending section but can't see borrowers feedback there. Is poloniex good for lending or is there better than it?

I read the stickies here and see the word collateral. As a newbie lender how does this work via escrow? Lets say I want to lend btc to a borrower in USA, the borrower must deliver physical collateral to me first? How does escrow gets updated on this? Regarding physical collateral from USA being shipped to UK wont it takes weeks to wait for delivery and borrower might be put off by a slow loan service?

As a newbie lender I am not understanding and like to know how it works?

Thanks,

I also like to know about lending on Poloniex. Is it safe to lend btc there or easy for borrowers to default there?
1028  Economy / Trading Discussion / Poloniex exchange newbie questions on: March 29, 2017, 11:59:19 AM
Hi,

These questions may be asked 1000 times already, totally new to this exchange:

If cancelling trades (buy/sell/stop-limit) I am liable to still pay the maker/taker fees which are 0.15% and 0.25%?

Thanks,

1031  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Newbie Altcoins questions? on: March 27, 2017, 09:06:13 PM
Another question is how does one know that a altcoin is declared dead? Or do they live forever as they are decentralised or can the inventors of that altcoin shut down its own network?

When i mean dead I don't mean a crashed lifeless chart that is still going, I mean that so dead that they don't exist online to buy anymore.

1032  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Newbie Altcoins questions? on: March 23, 2017, 07:17:15 PM
What is the max supply of Ethereum?
there is no max supply for ETH.

What is the max supply of Monero?
there is no max supply for XMR.

Is there a all in one wallet that can store all these altcoins? If so which is the best wallet to use?
i never used a multi currency wallet, so i don't have a personal opinion on that. but i think jaxx.io have them all.

I thought Monero has a max supply of 18-19 million right?

Can anyone confirm that Dash has a max supply of 22 million?

Out of Bitfinex and Poloniex exchanges which is the better overall?
1033  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Newbie Altcoins questions? on: March 22, 2017, 12:53:42 PM
So Ethereum and Monero have no max supply so that means these altcoins can be victims of Inflation?

I understand that bitcoin has .8 decimal places,

So how many decimal places are there for Ethereum, Dash and Monero?
1034  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Newbie Altcoins questions? on: March 22, 2017, 12:22:36 AM
Apart from obvious bitcoin which established altcoin is the best overall backed up by good reviews?

Bitcoin has a max supply of 21 million coins,

What is the max supply of Ethereum?

What is the max supply of Dash?

What is the max supply of Monero?

Is there a all in one wallet that can store all these altcoins? If so which is the best wallet to use?

Im from UK and like to know which is the best exchange for me with the most volume for altcoins like these?

Thanks,
1035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BU Hard Fork or Segwit Soft Fork newbie questions on: March 17, 2017, 09:09:39 PM
From a investor point of view is it best to wait till the BU hard fork happens then buy bitcoins or best to buy bitcoins now?

If you hold coins before any hard fork as a bilateral split, you own coins in both forks. You have automatically hedged your bets. You could choose to sell one side of your hedge for an increased stake in the other coin. You take your risk.

Nobody can take a guess or estimate of when the hard fork will happen? With all this FUD news of BU hard fork I recently hearing it sounds like its going to happen soon this year.

If miners feel threatened that an unwanted change is being forced upon them, and they have a sufficient majority of hash power, they might try to force a resolution before the end of the summer. Possible bilateral split occurring as a result.

Also I heard that segwit must be activated before the end of this year otherwise it is automatically cancelled and thrown out. Is this true?

Yes, if proposals to attempt to force it trough are not implemented. But blockstream are so desperate for it to make lightning networks more reliable and not a potential free for all theft hole, they will pressure core to try and try again. They have invested a lot of money in it.

So the hard fork is estimated to happen at the end of this summer (Aug/Sep)?

1037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / BU Hard Fork or Segwit Soft Fork newbie questions on: March 15, 2017, 01:09:05 PM
When will BU Hard Fork happen, will it happen this year?

I hear that once the hard fork happens bitcoins will split into 2 coins. Does that mean let's say for example I have 1 bitcoin worth $1000 then once the BU hard fork happens then I have 2 coins meaning I have 1 BTC at $1000 then I also have 1 BUTC at $1000 meaning I have extra $1000 for free totallinf $2000? Or will the BU hard Fork crash prices to half price?

Once the BU hard fork happens 1st then does that mean Segwit is automatically cancelled or Vice-Versa?

If BU hard fork fails and is turned into a separate altcoin then does that mean Segwit is the winner. If Segwit wins the democracy then when will segwit be activated?

Thanks,

Anyone have any advice
1039  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Irreversible payment methods? Protection for sellers advice needed on: March 15, 2017, 12:54:36 PM

Yes I know that. All banks are not Bitcoin friendly in case you did not know.

Have you tried using Localbitcoins before? Some of the traders there do over the counter deposits in the bank accounts of who they are trading with and vice versa. Go look into it before you close your mind on the idea.

Maybe it's valid, but it seems like the people on Localbitcoins.com are absurd, (or i guess, excessive)....   Like one time I made a cash deposit into someones personal checking account at a Bank of America, they then want you to write a bunch of crap on the deposit slip as if this cash deposit of someone elses account you can now withdrawal from, but whatever, then the guy actually made me wait 24 hours for it to "clear"  hahahahahaha wtf??

They charge prices that are like 20% over the market price, and are about the most paranoid group of people i've ever come across,

My suggestion is, just go to a Bitcoin ATM, I'm sure theres one nearby, put the cash in, walk out with coins, the limits are usually pretty high unless you are spending a ton of money....

And you don't have to start jumping through paranoid weird stuff to pay high prices....  Thats my suggestion...  Or use Coinmama, coinbase, if your in a hurry, or the best option, any of the big exchanges.....
[/quote]

You are confirming that over the counter cash deposits are 100% irreversible? Only cheques take time to clear so why is the seller asking you to wait 24 hours for cash to clear?

Im looking sound sound advice when it comes to selling bitcoins. Your last couple of paragraph are good advice for buying bitcoins.

I messaged perfect money and they clarified that the bank statement must be signed and stamped by the bank itself only. Is there notary in the bank?
