When will .1 XMR network fee be lowered??
It would have been done by now but "events" got in the way. The next update after this one should have per-KB fees that are lower for small (meaning size in bytes not amount of coins) transactions.

-RP, CZ has seen his project under social engineering attack (FUD campaign, etc.) since before Monero was subject to trolls/hacks
Organized (probably paid) relentless anti-Monero trolls started more or less from day one. The hacks of course are a more recent escalation. Other than that your post makes some good points.

Ok, let me be more clear. Rpietila is HURTING the reputation of XMR. You guys need to put a muzzle on him. Immediately. People are starting to despise him across the crypto world - from east to west. If you guys dont see this, look around. If you are in an XMR bubble please step out of it. The tides are turning against Risto and unfortunatley against XMR>
* smooth checks the secret control panel deep inside Monero headquarters.Nope, no button on there to shut up people who post on bitcointalk. He says what he wants. I don't really care what he says, although some of it I find interesting, much of it I don't. So far I'm not finding you very interesting though.

Fellow XMRs, I recently had close to 6 figures in XMR. I used to be in love with this coin. I have sold it all, pending regaining confidence. One of the reasons I lost confidence was the desperation I am seeing in the figure heads of the XMR community - the epitome of which is in desperate scared nonnsensical threads like this one ---> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=771925.0I would hope that the leaders in this community would talk to and reign in your "spokespeople" who are giving this coin a HORRIBLE reputation. The fear mongering and arrogance that is thinly masked insecurity is depressing. Please think about taking this coin in a different PR direction. Thank you. Who are you?See Monero Missives #1: " (in no particular order) - tacotime, eizh, smooth, fluffypony, othe, davidlatapie, NoodleDoodle
^ Only spokespeople, and even then only when it is clear they are speaking on behalf of the project and not as individuals. Glad I could help clear that up for you.

- Now comes the sad part. I think most of the team participated in a scam, and that's why I call them scammers. The BCN coin was said to be 2 years old, but that is a lie. Whoever says that but knows better is a liar. Not good. I am not buying coins from liars or scammers.
I don't ever remember CZ saying that, but perhaps you weren't implying that anyway. As far as the people who do clearly and loudly put forward that sham, I have no disagreement with what you said. Has it been proven that zoidberg is part of the original team or is it still suspicion due to his familiarity with the code? No it hasn't been proven. It's a reasonable suspicion he had some involvement based on his knowledge of the code (I would say more than familiarity) and the stuff in the rethink-your-strategy post (though I found that part of the post pretty unconvincing) but what that involvement might have been I don't think anyone really has any idea, or they're not saying. EDIT: Furthermore this is getting very off-topic for the Monero thread. Please take it elsewhere.

I removed it because I meant to say "much of" - the Tweet as originally written gave the inaccurate impression that Cryptonote is written exclusively in C, which just isn't true. I removed it pretty quickly, within about an hour.
In fact the only part that is written in C are the crypto libraries, most of which probably came from other projects (though much the history is not visible to us). That doesn't mean rest is good, but it isn't C.

Unless you needing it is a priority, may I suggest you get some sleep. It's been 20 hrs from since soon and 3 1/2 hrs since imminent and it seems that they have a little while to go yet.
I have to say I agree. Apparently the Windows builds are taking a long time. Being in a No Windows Zone, I have no understanding of this and find it perplexing but I also have nothing to do with this part of the process. I know it is in progress though.

Was reading last pages in rpietila alt coin observer.
This is sad to see two-faced people who ask for help when they in troubles and spread slander and lie when troubles is over. This behavior expose their moral standards.
I doubt that i'll ever again will care for helping.
Was looking through the last 2 pages, but couldn't see a developer posting about you or BBR. Which posts are you referring to? It was a few pages back. It was some people talking about the rethink-your-strategy allegations. I commented as well and apparently caused offense, but I said there and I'll say here that we don't know the truth of those allegations or the larger context. So it is all speculation and should not be taken too seriously.

^ Note that there'll be new executables available to download soon.
Can you answer precisely when about? tomorrow? thanks ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif) We hope today. No problems yet in testing but we have a number of platforms and blockchain states to cover. Plus we have to build release binaries, which also takes a little while. But hopefully very soon.

Peter Todd's first Twitter post has been removed and all that is left is something less frank and open about his true views. Guess if you are being paid you should try not to say your clients crap is 'crap'. https://twitter.com/petertoddbtc/status/507427225927708672I'm out of this shit. Far too much manipulation going on. It stinks to high heaven. I'm not going to comment on the twitter thing (I don't know why he changed it) but the fact is the code really isn't that bad (other than having a bug in it). I thought otherwise when I first saw is (and yes comments would help) but apparently it is a pretty direct implementation of a standard algorithm for finding the highest bit set. That's pretty close to 'clz' described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Find_first_setI likewise wouldn't be surprised if the flat tree construction in the latter part of the function were also a somewhat standard idiom. It's obviously written by someone with a different background and perspective than Peter (or me) and indeed if we are going maintain it we probably have to rewrite a lot of that stuff as a practical matter. How this relates to the 'Monero scam' I have no idea.

I bought some monero on an exchange, and now I want to transfer them to my cold wallet.
So, Ive setup simplewallet, created my wallet address, backed the seed, and sent 1XMR to my address.
I downloaded the blockchain.bin, which is supposed to be up-to-date, from the beginning of this thread.
However the blockchain.bin isnt up-to-date, and its taking ages to sync. Currently on block 183000.
All I want to do is check my balance, to see if the transfer was successful.
And what is the viewkey for, and how do i use it?
viewkey would let you see the balance of your cold wallet but it isn't implemented yet. If you got a transaction id from the exchange you can check in a block explorer such as chainradar to see if the transaction confirmed. Other than that you just have to wait for your node to sync or download a newer one from OP.

Although you have 0.8.8.2 at the top of the page, further down above the blockchain downloads you have listed and linked 0.8.8 from June 11th.
Why the opening page indicates version 0.8.8.2? I compiled the source from the official github repository a few days ago, and I am running the 0.8.8.3 version Because .3 was a response to the last bit of fuckery from people who have nothing better to do than try to attack Monero, and we neglected to update that during the firefight. Apology for any inconvenience. Will make sure it gets updated correctly this time.

Mandatory Update Imminent
An updated version of our fix has passed the first round of testing.
Please be ready for near term release of an official update, especially if you are operating an exchange, pool or other important service.
i think it was already mentioned but if you can add the the version of the release next to the title of the topic, im sure a lot of people would realize they are running an outdated software more quickly. something like : [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade 8.8.X) Will do. Thanks for the reminder!

Some questions tied to speculative thoughts on the attack.
When the network was spammed to try and bloat the block chain, was that actually part of the attack? Wouldn't you want to slow down the network and cause some transaction volume to slow as part of the prep work?
Maybe if you were trying to take control, a slower network, down to what you could manage, would be a necessity.
To counter the block chain spamming, was the fork to increase the fees an anticipated outcome for the attacker and something he was relying on, or was that a problem that required him to force another fork?
Although the events were some weeks apart, it is still quite a lot of attack activity in a relatively short period of time.
Happy to delete this post if you think it just promotes unnecessary FUD.
Let's address all this after we are done with recovery and have official builds up.

More soon.
Any update on the updated update regarding the updated update yet? Yeah. We tried a couple different things and this one seems to work. https://github.com/tewinget/bitmonero/commits/202612_exceptionWe may replace the tree-hash code still because that solution from CN isn't quite right either, but you can download this, build, and try syncing it to the main chain now if you'd like. BTW, this is a test release. Feel free to build if you are comfortable doing so. We will have a slightly different full release with official builds shortly. Testing continues. More soon.

Thank you James. We're testing, have everything we need right now. I'll be in touch if that changes though.
