Your being an OS racist by making us give a bitcoin signed message to add a namecoin address ! How many windows users have the neccesary compilers and libraries to compile their own binary?
How many Windows users have namecoin? At the time, it was my understanding (from the Namecoin docs) that only Linux was supported.

Windows has been supported for months, http://dot-bit.org/Main_Page listed under downlaods.  It is CLI though and not a GUI but still a windows program.

Now simplecoin appears to be down (at least for me) Anyone else having problems?  Slush is now back up, did the attackers move their attack, or is simplecoin just being updated again?  Huh
looks like a similiar error to the other day.

1083  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Serious drop in recent BTC hashing power on: October 13, 2011, 12:19:12 PM
It's a natural reaction to the low price. Difficulty is dropping by about 300,000 tomorrow.

When difficulty gets low enough for $4/btc to be profitable again, hash rates will rise.

No it was a natural reaction to Deepbit, BTC Guild, and Slush being DDOS'd for hours... Those 3 pools make up a huge chunck of the networks hashing power.

Now the strange thing is, with the pools still somewhat crippled, blocks found had almost doubled...

hchc: I'm in contact with company for doing ddos mitigation, however it's taking some time - it is 6am here.

Thanks for the update, Slush.

I don't think so. And if you look at the logarithmic chart the drop suddenly looks like peanuts.

This is within expectations because of the price drop on the exchanges and till we get a trend reversal the drop would continue to accelerate.
If I had a noteworthy mining operation I'd shut them off by now as well with the rates I get. Makes sense if the electricity costs make up a substantial part of your regular income as selling freshly mined coins is only profitable for people with low rates.

If you look im talking about the last 10 blocks.  It has taken 3 hrs to find those 10 blocks. your graph of the last 12 months is nice and all but not very accurate when applied to the past 3 hours.  And it appears the drop is due to Deepbit going down.

You can stick to that story if you want but we all know how it went so don't try to play the innocent here I'm not buying it you could have done like the others but choose not to and did it the scummy way. And again BTW still no answer to the payout question but that don't seem to be a priority at the moment so carry on I'm done with you weasel.

I am trying to read your posts with charity, but I am just not understanding what your problem with this is?  If we mine BTC with slush, we get a share.  If we are still mining BTC with slush now we will also be getting Namecoins with our share.  Maybe I am missing something, but all of the namecoins currently mined by our combined pool's power will be distributed based on our inputs.  I don't believe Slush is keeping all of them that were mined before he opened it up to us for himself.  Again unless I am misunderstanding something he didn't use the pool's collective processing power to make namecoins for himself.  So I don't really understand what you are pointing to Slush and calling him a weasel for having done.

I believe his problem is because he hasn't gotten any NMC yet and the price keeps dropping so in his shortsightedness he is "omg losing money"
1089  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1400 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); with LP&Ntime, NMC Merged Mining on: October 12, 2011, 04:04:03 PM
As it happens the news of slush doing the merged mining only came after everyone started wondering just WTF was going on, on the pools that had announced they were doing the merged mining when they suddenly found that there was an extremely large numbers of blocks being mined that could not be accounted for. People then started asking just what pool was up to no good scheming up all the blocks with massive hash power only then was it revealed that unlike the others who gave people a choice to mine NMC merged Slush had taken it upon himself to do it in secret hiding the fact it was happening so no one could mine them other than was already there at the time.

Bullshits. If you followed namecoin movement (forum, irc) then you definitely had to found my interest in merged mining. I was in contact with namecoin developers and fans. It wasn't *so* big secret at all. But it was everything so new for me, so I didn't want to make public announcement until I was sure it will work somehow. And even after merged mining started, there were some problems and I turned off MM for more than a day. That was a real reason why "official" announcement come so late. Please stop finding conspiracy theories. Also "hidden merged mining" is not possible. Fact that pool is using merged mining can be found in every pool's BTC block.

You can stick to that story if you want but we all know how it went so don't try to play the innocent here I'm not buying it you could have done like the others but choose not to and did it the scummy way. And again BTW still no answer to the payout question but that don't seem to be a priority at the moment so carry on I'm done with you weasel.

The Story is true, Slush's pool is the TB+ that was going to be used back during the bitcoinexpress threat to attack the pool to try and protect the NMC network.

Its mentioned in this thread around this post.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=33612.msg531392#msg531392

Interesting, it seems that

http://allchains.info/
and
http://dot-bit.org/tools/nextDifficulty.php

are suggesting very different future values for Namecoin difficulty.  In this case it seems that allchains is wrong.

Trying to find something of the calculation I found this page https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty which confirms my expectations:

Quote
The difficulty is adjusted every 2016 blocks based on the time it took to find the previous 2016 blocks. At the desired rate of one block each 10 minutes, 2016 blocks would take exactly two weeks to find. If the previous 2016 blocks took more than two weeks to find, the difficulty is reduced.

I can't be truly sure without looking at the code but this is enough for me to be reasonably confident that we are indeed headed for a massive drop in Namecoin difficulty.

yeah we have been on this difficulty for 3 months, some days only solving 1-2 blocks. so at this point you can add 100TH/s to the nmc network and would still drop 75% in difficulty, after which it will quickly balance out in difficulty in a few weeks we will be back at 6 blocks an hr. At which time there wont be a flood of coins into the exchange and the prices will lvl off again.  Because most of the people buying atm are supporters of NMC that most likely will hold onto their coins. (I know I plan to.)

Incase folks don't know... when you register a domain name the coins used to pay are Destroyed forever...

so the 21mil max coins will never be reached since some of those coins have already been destroyed and will continue to decrease in supply as more domains are registered.

Any word on when the pool will start processing rewards?

I had some unexpected stuff today (not Bitcoin related), so I didn't work on this today, my bad. But I know people are waiting on it, I'll finish rewarding system tomorrow.

Hopefully there will still be buyers left to sell into then the bids are going fast at the bitparking exchange from the rate it is going be lucky to sell them for .01 then....

Slush just sell the current stockpile.  If is highly unlikely in the short term prices will be higher.  Anyone who actually wants NMC could likely buy even more with the BTC you distribute from the sale.

Supply is going to far outstrip demand in the short term.  Converting NMC to BTC preserves the value of those coins.  Once the realtime distribution of NMC is ready future NMC rewards could be directly distributed.

Just please consider a one time sale of current stockpile.  It is already worth 35% less than it was yesterday.  With hundreds of thousands of new coins coming into supply every day the price isn't going to go up.  A delay simply devalues the reward.

not everyone plans on selling there coins, by dumping over 20k coins on the exchange it will drop the price. whereas if only half the people want to sell the 20k the price would only drop to .15 thus YOU make more BTC because the portion you have will be worth more.  While the people holding  onto their portion if the 20+k wait for the price to go back up before selling and make even more profit.

Considering NMC is a bonus to mining and not needed to "break even" selling at these low prices is stupid. but just like BTC and the stock market, investors need stupid people to sell low and buy high lol....so sell sell sell your coins so i can buy buy buy and resell in 6-12 months at a much better profit. Smiley or open a .bit registration site lol in a month or 2 ill have enough to register a few thousand domains.

There worth nothing if they are not in your wallet so no bonus at all yet and how about we get to decide what to do with them if you want to sell sell if not don't but kind of hard to do if you do not have them. BTW if you have not noticed since the first of these coins has been mined the price has gone from .025 down to damn near .015 and continuing to sell down there are next to no fresh buy bids happening so it is only going to go lower as more people sell.

yeah technically the price has dropped from .031 a week ago to currently .016 with a low of .0155 but there are pretty solid wall at .013 Im hoping a lot of folks sell so i can get the NMC from mining and dump my BTC into buying NMC cheap.

(But I support the idea behind namecoin and taking DNS out of the control of governments...)

As expected, the NMC price is crashing. The guys mining at the other pools are probably selling as quickly as they can before the market is flooded by this pool.

I wonder if it would be better for Slush to simply sell the namecoins as they are mined and pay us proportionally in BTC.  Otherwise by the time we finally get some NMC it will be 100,000 NMC : 1 BTC.
Then you just keep your nmc wallet and forget about it for a few months, and let deflation work it's way.

There however needs to be more services for namecoin with this sudden influx, or a difficulty reset based on mining so we don't go through a couple months worth of blocks in 1 week.

as opposed to the weeks worth that took 3 months.

Im looking forward to being able to pick up a bunch more NMC for the cheap.  Once the difficulty lvls out the price will recover.

now it's 10mbit plastic fiber link.

Fiber is actually very fine strands of glass (usually smaller than a strand of hair) protected by plastic.

Also browsing .bits for me was simple to setup. mainly because i run my own DNS server in my home, so it took 10 minutes to add the settings for .bits to pull info from the 2 public DNS servers.

looks like currently a tad over 17k NMC mined. (343 blocks according to stats page.)
I'm not asking how much he's collecting, I'm asking exactly how he will divide between the users. Apparently there is no accounting for each block like there is with bitcoins.

And I wasn't answering you, i was posting an update to  the 10k figure in your quote. I'm staying here because you don't really know when he will implement the accounting and we start getting paid. (unless you spend all day monitoring the thread.)

a) Pool already mined over 10000 Namecoins (and it is going up in very fast rate, see NMC stats. I'll start giving away those coins to pool's Namecoin miners after few days using their proportional hashpower. First namecoin miners actively mining on pool may expect really big namecoin rewards.
Do you mean the hash power we're putting in now, or when you start giving them out? If it's the latter it seems it would be better for me to use a pool that is already giving them out and come back to you later?

Is there a better guide somewhere on how to setup a wallet for namecoin? or how to start with namecoins?

that guide is pretty straight forward.
1099  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: backdoor-merged-mining with cheating miners on: October 11, 2011, 03:27:40 AM
Stealing may not be the right term, but we (the people mining at official merged pools) would get more nmc if it weren't for you, even if you pay out the earning to your miners.

Who gives a flying crap.  If you can't compete then die.  Sorry this is capitalism at its finest.

I don't use slush pool but your claims he took "your namecoins" are beyond pathetic.  If your hashing power sucks so bad you can't compete then close up shop.  You aren't entitled to any monopoly of namecoins.

As far as using test-net. Most of the issues w/ merge mining deal w/ large pool integration.  It is kinda hard to find 100GH/s worth of hashing power willing to spend couple hours on test-net simultaneously for free.

Grow a pair and stop whining.  If you think slush's test wass bad just wait I predict within a month most major pool will be merge mining (because miners will flow to those who are) so you can expect 5TH+ more competition.

I predict that once they have killed off the bitparking exchange dumping all them coins on it, merged mining will be dropped like a hot potato by them same weasels who have jumped on leaving namecoin in even worse shape than before.

lol not going to kill off the exchange, It will dip low as all the new hashing power mines a bunch of blocks quickly and the Difficulty stabilizes back to a normal 6 blocks an hour.  This will just give people the ability to buy into NMC cheaply if people are willing to sell off there NMC cheaply.

fixed the link.

Hopefully you get everything working before the difficulty drop and start solving blocks 4 times faster for a few days lol. Thanks for adding Merged Mining.
