10941  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price and Christmas. on: December 24, 2019, 04:08:43 PM
Not all people in the world celebrate Christmas, there are around 2 billion Christians, but many are merely declared as such, and do not hold too much to religion. However, those who have BTC and who need the money will sell some BTC at this time, at least I think and do just that. But this is not a reason that can affect the price too much unless someone really sells a large amount of BTC to buy something pretty expensive.

To give an example that this theory is not completely correct, we have this small pump which lasted for a very short time, but it's obviously another bull trap, or maybe a little Santa Claus gift Wink
10942  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: help with bitcoin on: December 24, 2019, 03:15:51 PM
I think you have purchased BITCOIN CASH (BCH) instead of BITCOIN.

It is possible that you bought Bitcoin Cash, not Bitcoin.

You probably got scammed into buying bitcoin cash (BCH), when you were intending to buy bitcoin (BTC).

its look like you bought BCH instead BTC

There are no more assumptions here about what happened, OP is posted link to BCH transaction in post number 9, why all of you still leave some possibility that the OP may have done something else? Read, think and then post, otherwise your posts make no sense.

As for the transaction, it is 17 days old, there are nearly 2500 confirmations so the problem may be in wallet sync or OP is send wrong address. I wish their support help, it's about their application and transaction.

10943  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Canadian Bitcoin Scammer to Face Two Years Jail for $140k Twitter Fraud on: December 24, 2019, 02:41:54 PM
I must respectfully disagree. People constantly change, and for most people spending 10% of your like in bars at an age when you should still be having fun as a young adult can be seen as a life changing incident. Now would I outright trust them or release them early, not a chance. Serve the 2 years don't bitch or complain then be better is all I can hope.

Glad to see people do get rounded up every now and then. Especially considering my own little faux pas not to long ago.

People are changing, there is no doubt about it, but most people in jail pick up more bad habits, or just perfect their old skills. I can't say what the prison system is like in Canada, but I suppose it's much better than the one in the USA. I'd like to believe that the two will change, but I wouldn't bet too much on that outcome.

The punishment is too small for me, and it sends an arguably bad message to those who are considering doing something similar. The potential benefit of successful theft far outweighs the possible sentence, 2 years is actually an acceptable risk for some - while 5+ years would probably deter some from attempting anything like this at all.
10944  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger Christmas Offer on: December 24, 2019, 12:39:07 PM
hugeblack, I posted about this offer here, but the new thread is a much better idea. I am not sure if this deal better then one at Black Friday, because I got my Nano X with 35% discount which saves me almost $50. This Christmas Pack is $130+, which means you pay full price for Nano X, and get free Nano S.

Personally, I don't find this offer attractive, but it may make sense for those who need the Nano S, for those who already have it, it can only serve as a gift.
10945  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does Electrum wallet has a special advantage than other wallet? on: December 24, 2019, 11:59:32 AM
If you are so anxious, why not use the wallet in cold storage mode?

That's generally good advice, but I think it's a little too complicated for beginners since they need to use two devices and two Electrum. On the other hand, this gives far greater security, because the main wallet is never online, so it cannot be hacked. In my opinion, this is the only safe way to use the Electrum and similar wallets, because no matter what we do to protect ourselves, hackers never sleep.

franklin2058, I would say that a special advantage of Electrum is a fact that it is open-source, it is free to use and it is user-friendly. As others have noted, you don't have to worry about Electrum developers, they have no power to steal anything from you. You need to adopt best security practices, have a virus/malware free device and verify a file signature before installations.
10946  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Coinomi Wallet - Looking For Honest Reviews on: December 23, 2019, 01:48:33 PM
I recently tried the Coinomi wallet (desktop version), and have no objections about the overall impression. What is important about this wallet is the fact that it supports a large number of coins, that it has a very simple and friendly interface, and that there is a backup in the form of a seed words. Of course, what matters most is that the wallet is free, which, in combination with other features, will satisfy most users.

Of course, the most objection is to the fact that this is not an open-source project, which causes some doubt and skepticism, for good reason of course. Personally, I think this kind of wallet can be a good choice for those who are just beginners and want to play with a lot of altcoins. For some serious dealing with crypto, however, there are some wallets that offer a far better level of security.
10947  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcointalk Charity Program - Give Hope To Everyone $1 Is A Big Thing For Them on: December 23, 2019, 11:55:38 AM
So finally, here's my documentation on the activity that I had last Dec. 15, 2019.
They are separate events that happened on December 15, 2019. I hope you liked it, guys! More blessings to come.

I hope it satisfy all of the followers of this Charity. Thank you all for making this possible.
Happy Holidays.

It's nice to see words and ideas put into action, and I think the pictures speak more than a thousand words. I'm also glad that there are still people showing compassion for others, this is becoming a rare occurrence in today's world.

Happy and blessed Christmas to cabalism13&crwth who initiated this charity program, and to everyone who participated Smiley
10948  Other / Meta / Re: FREE MERIT COME FAST BEFORE I RUN OUT [Happy Holidays] on: December 23, 2019, 11:44:45 AM
All I ask for you to do is say something nice about any other forum member and I'll award you one merit. It can be anyone even if you know them or not, if they are here now or were here before - just say something nice and I'll reward you for it!

I did at least one good thing on the forum, donated $50 + to a charity which allowed some children to receive Christmas presents and help the homeless. I think this is the least we can do, children are the most vulnerable part of human society and deserve special attention.

10949  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-18] Two more bitcoin firms shutdown over impending EU money-laundering on: December 23, 2019, 11:35:15 AM
Any company serving EU residents will need to implement KYC now?
If that's the case, I'm surprised we haven't heard more from exchanges. I hope we don't see a rash of hastily added KYC policies next month.

I think there can be no exceptions, the laws will apply to anyone doing business in the European Union. There are three options, adjusting to new laws, terminating your business, or moving to another country. Although running away from the law only delays the inevitable, as there are fewer and fewer locations to work in the financial sector without KYC.

Binance already has a branch that operates under the mandatory KYC (https://www.binance.je/en), so it is very possible that they will simply introduce KYC to Binance Europe, and give some time to everyone to do it or withdraw their funds. However, there are some minimum amounts that will be allowed under the new directive (50-150 EUR), so you may still be able to trade small amounts without KYC.
10950  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Urgent - Cannot find Electrum wallet and the bitcoins in it on: December 23, 2019, 11:13:40 AM
-snip-

Certainly won't solve the OP problem because he didn't even use Electrum for Bitcoin.

What was missed by everyone except HCP, is still unknown fact for BitMaxz. Posts definitely needs to be read very carefully, because only one letter can mean a big difference and take the discussion in a completely wrong direction.

How did you even find that wallet is beyond me.

I was wondering the same thing, and the only logical explanation is that the OP used VertCoin Electrum sometime in the past, and he obviously mixed two different versions of Electrum.
10951  Other / Meta / Re: Is this against the rules? Indirect referral link spamming. on: December 23, 2019, 11:01:14 AM
Almost all the topics that include "Read the full article at...... " deserve to be deleted.
^--- THIS

I agree with this, but there is an exception to the Press board where news should be posted (related to Bitcoin only). I also don't see anything wrong with sharing a quality article from time to time, but those who do it constantly with the intention of promoting certain web pages should be punished in an exemplary manner.

Let's take an example of a user cheezcarls and let's look at his post history, does anyone see anything strange? I see a person who is paid to promote a specific web site. I try to report it as advertising, and as content that should be posted in Press board, but all my reports stay unhandled.

Also, the user in question is rewarded with merits from some prominent forum members, which just gives him the incentive to move on with what he's doing. Should I mention that this user does not participate in the discussions he initiates at all.

10952  Economy / Economics / Re: Your plan if no significant move on Bitcoin price along with the halving? on: December 22, 2019, 03:47:47 PM
~snip~
For those who view Bitcoin from the perspective of technology that has practically not started at full speed, and for those investors who are investing in the long run, the next halving is by no means a crucial point. What is more important to me is the fact that almost 99% of Bitcoin will be mined in the next 10 years, all this with 3 halvings that will happen (2020, 2024, 2028).

I personally do not mean to take any drastic steps in the event that no new large pump happens by the end of 2021, which I personally do not consider to be a realistic outcome, because I believe that history will be repeated again. In the end, it's not all about the money, Bitcoin can remain at the same value for another 2 years, and I don't see how that would diminish its real value.
10953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hacker: Sentenced two year suspended jail term, & six-month electronic curfew on: December 22, 2019, 03:14:53 PM
However, I think the sentenced was too weak, I think if this happens in the US Kerem could get heavier punishment. Probably the court wanted to teach the kid a lesson, but we all know that crime is a crime. I disagree with the court's decision though. Those cyber criminals should get harsher punishment.
Of course, the punishment is too weak, laws and the judiciary are not adequate in such cases. As gentlemand pointed out, this prick would very likely receive a much bigger sentence if he stole something from the store, or broke into someone's home. I do not agree that he would receive a higher sentence in the US, it is evident from similar examples that very small penalties are imposed on such offenses.

Once again I will say that this is not about people belonging to the western civilization, just check their names and things become very clear. Maybe this is the reason for the very small penalties, extra discount to avoid racial discrimination?

10954  Other / Meta / Re: Prejudice against signature campaigns on: December 22, 2019, 02:47:09 PM
I understand that some people with signature campaigns do not provide anything to a discussion and they just write silly unintelligent idiotic things that doesn't improve the discussion at all.

There is a very effective solution for signature spammers, report them to their campaign managers or to mods with help of "Report to moderator" button. The first choice is certainly better, because each decent campaign manager will remove such a user, and maybe even add them to black list.

Stop the hate against people who have signature campaigns.

At this forum, as well as in real life there is a lot of hate, but also love. I wouldn't say it's hate in most cases, it's mostly envy that stems from the fact that not everyone can be in top paid campaigns. Most of those who are invested effort and time have the privilege of participating in signature campaigns, and if anyone hates us for it, so be it, hate is very bad for health...

10955  Other / Meta / Re: Is this against the rules? Indirect referral link spamming. on: December 22, 2019, 02:31:50 PM
I've been doing similar thing for years, so I think it's not forbidden. On Micro Earnings section I promote my referral links indirectly.

You and me are doing that in only one board, and we respect the rule of bumping our thread once per 24 hours. The user in question is without question using the forum to promote his site, and it is only doubtful how many of his posts are against rule number 24. I personally don't see anything substantial and useful which would justify his links.

Direct referral links are also allowed in at last one part of the forum (Gambling), and a concrete example is this user who has no problem with posting direct ref links in few threads.

Personally, I find that there are users who are working for some web-sites and get pay for posting their links on forum. They are aware that moderators do not delete such posts if they write several lines of text and add a link, but let's be honest, such things are very irritating and should not be allowed.

10956  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: paper wallet was stolen on: December 22, 2019, 01:59:13 PM
jorro-ts, it is possible that whoever came into possession of your coins does not know how to cash them safely, or it is someone who has a large amount of coins and is simply waiting for the price to go up. In most cases, things like this don't happen, so it's a little weird that the coins haven't moved yet.

If you haven't already, report that address to all most popular crypto exchanges, so if hacker is not smart and send directly to some exchange, you have at least some chance of getting back your coins. The problem will certainly be to prove that the coins were stolen, signing the message from hacked address doesn't make any sense because the private key is compromised.
10957  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Teen crook hacked into 75 phones and stole $1M in cryptocurrency: authorities on: December 22, 2019, 12:04:07 PM
~snip~
You are probably right, some people are extremely irresponsible and share their information everywhere, and sometimes they boast about the amount of coins they own. In fact, they are causing themselves problems in life, because such things should be private. It's not just about anyone being able to do us a SIM swap, it's also about physically endangering our property and lives.

It is a big responsibility on the mobile carriers who should introduce a much bigger check before issuing a replacement SIM card, but most are only interested in making as much profit as possible.

10958  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Urgent - Cannot find Electrum wallet and the bitcoins in it on: December 22, 2019, 11:49:10 AM
Well noticed HCP, the rest of us have completely missed that detail, though it occurred to me that it might be another coin. OP was convinced he was using Electrum BTC, but completely unaware that the BTC address can not start with V. A good lesson for him, but as well for others who have yet to learn some basics.

One thing I don't understand is how the OP came to VertCoin Electrum wallet, but one thing is for sure, he did not download it from the official Electrum site.
10959  Economy / Speculation / Re: The market after Q3 and at the start of Q4 on: December 21, 2019, 03:38:29 PM
Overall, I agree with a lot of your points, Lucius; however, I would quibble a bit with your framing the beginning of a cycle (or the next cycle) in such strict terms.
Of course, this is just an assumption that can definitely be wrong for the reasons you make in your post. Given that Bitcoin has only been in existence for 10 years, and we only had 2 halvings, we can only speculate that something will happen again. I agree that big players have the tools to manipulate the crypto market, it's a very modest market in terms of overall value, and every major purchase or sale causes major changes in price.

It may be that some will try to use the majority's belief in repeating the cycle for their own benefit. Probably these same discussions took place after the first halving and the anticipation of the second, and as then, we will have to wait at least 2 more years to see what the effects of 3 halving will be.
10960  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My QT Wallet Not Sync on: December 21, 2019, 02:56:44 PM
Are you sure your wallet doesn't sync? I know the question may sound silly, but it's a very slow process because of the amount of data that needs to be retrieved. The amount of data you need to download is over 240 gigabytes, and the download time depends primarily on the speed of your internet connection, though not exclusively about it.

I suggest you read this article, and particularly pay attention on Check wallet connection and add nodes, but to all other advices.

I don't know if you have any particular reason to use this wallet, as there are alternative solutions that do not require downloading the entire blockchain.
