10981  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is Dogecoin dying ? on: August 30, 2016, 01:12:15 AM
Maybe Dogecoin could copy Monero's dynamic block sizes so that it could scale better than other altcoins and get attraction from the cryptosphere again. I think it was smooth or smoothie who mentioned that because of dogecoin's inflationary nature or what he called a "tail emission", dogecoin is a good coin to implement dynamic block sizes. He also said that it is not advisable to use for bitcoin because of the 21 million coin maximum cap. But he did not give a reason why.

Can someone explain why a maximum coin cap is bad for dynamic block sizes?
10982  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Has NXTs price peaked? on: August 29, 2016, 11:26:43 AM
Nxt has one of the most reliable blockchain out there. I think Ardor will get his moment of fame when they launch. And the marketing team of Nxt is already working on the new childchain and the name. More info will follow.

"You think" it will get its moment in fame. Of course it will because it will be hyped by the marketing team and the NXT community. It will also be pumped at the same time of the hype and then the traders who know what is going on will also join in. When the ordinary people get in because they think this will be the next big thing, the dump will happen. This has happened before many times. Please tell me. What will make Ardor different?
10983  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Lisk Price Discussion on: August 29, 2016, 11:17:37 AM
There will always be price attacks the problem is when will it stop? Everytime the price is showing that it will start to reach 50k satoshis the whale will set up a big sell wall at 45k satoshis. But maybe another whale is now ready to snap buy that wall when he sets it up again next time. We will see.
10984  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 29, 2016, 11:08:15 AM
Rpietila thanks for your thoughts.

Basically...

This is funny. When the price goes up everyone starts wondering why and what is making it go up. If you are a real supporter of Monero the price does not matter. If you are a speculator of XMR the only thing that will matter is how high the price will go up and how much you will make in the trade. The people asking why and what is making it go up are maybe the ones who have not bought yet or is not sure if he did the right thing.

10985  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Has NXTs price peaked? on: August 29, 2016, 09:02:17 AM
Yes but what is the real world use case of NXT and who are using it now? Sometimes it is very frustrating for some supporters because they are given hope that one day it will be adopted by big businesses and the platfrom will have billions and billions in marketcap. Now that the dream was not achieved what now? How will Ardor change everything when the people behind NXT cannot even make people use their platform? Well there are users and I saw the asset exchange. Most of the assets are junk, if not all of them. There is no volume in them and the ones saying that you buy are only the holders. I am sorry but nothing is happening with NXT.
10986  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: August 29, 2016, 05:08:25 AM
Lisk CEO, Max Kordek says many cryptocurrencies out there are just ‘coins,’ circulating in a dead network solving no problem.
“I can't speak for every cryptocurrency but many never had any bigger goal, target market, or use in mind,” he said via email. “However, even projects with a great vision have problems (failure rate for regular startups is about 90%. In the Blockchain industry this number is probably bigger). I think the biggest mistake everyone has is to solve everything at once and trying to implement dozens of different features. It's a marathon. I don't think within the next 12-18 months we will see major adoption cycles. It takes time to build the foundation, then it takes time to build a good product, then it takes time to design a great UX, and maybe then you can expect hundred of thousands of users. Not before. So staying in the game for a long time and being consistent. This is key for me.”

Nice post but it does not reflect on the price. There is no buyer confidence in LSK now that there is a whale who put big sell walls discouraging the buyers. If this keeps up for months then expect to see more dumping and price falls. Also no one really knows who the whale is or what his motives are and that makes him really dangerous.
10987  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 29, 2016, 05:04:37 AM
I worry about ETC. It is like the miners are ready to right away dump everything they earn and when the price is now very low, they are also ready to leave and point all their power on ETH. Is there any update from Charles Hoskinson? What are they planning?
10988  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: August 29, 2016, 05:01:29 AM
dont worry too much their are someone which is having fun with monero and naut pumped after that they will come back and invest again their earnings i believe waves is a good project and holding it for another couple of months will ensure me a good profits so good luck.

I believe in waves too, I think sasha is a professional business man and he can accomplish something, just need a little patient.

I used to have faith and confidence in him but now it is slowly going away. I do not think he is capable of running a project like this. I wish I have made thorough research about Sasha before making an investment in Waves. It shows that the biggest ICO can be failures too. Ethereum is one big ICO that has failed for me.

What projects was Sasha involved in before Waves?
10989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Could Monero replace Bitcoin soon? on: August 29, 2016, 04:55:37 AM
i doubt that this can ever happen with monero replacing anything, it is like any other altcoin with too much hot air.

but these days the pump of XMR is awesome and it is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of when the price is rising to make a good amount of profit.

I am afraid that is true. There are many traders who are very happy to take advantage and trade in and out of XMR now because the upside volatility is very high. This is what I said in another thread and I did not mean anything bad with it. I was only saying it in a factual way because that is how markets are. But I was told by smoothie that I was envious because he thought I was saying that XMR is being pumped and dumped. Which it actually is happening now because the traders buy in and then dump higher.

If they are dumping into darknet users, then the valuation is partly utility, which changes the dynamics. The same could be said of Bitcoin's darknet and remittance markets, and use as an alt coin on-ramp.

Please keep in mind that I do not see pumping and dumping as a strategy used by day traders as bad. It is just a natural occurrence in the market that came from a trading strategy that is done for profit. The people who frown down upon it are the ones who are the victims of this. In fact the losers are at fault here because they were stupid enough to fall for the ruse.
10990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin will regain it position on: August 29, 2016, 02:42:23 AM
Everyone who thinks ltc is dying or will die does not understand network affect and understand how strong the ltc blockchain is.

LTC will be over $20 in 2017-2018 for sure.

What network effect? There is almost no merchant willing to accept LTC as money. So it does not really matter if LTC was first out there. It is not in the same situation of BTC where being the first really matters because a whole economy was developed and built around it. If LTC was a person he is the guy late to arrive in the party and even if he was early he is the guy that no one paid attention to because LTC is not bringing something new to the table.
10991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: THE RISE AND RISE OF MONERO on: August 29, 2016, 02:35:11 AM
Ain't this just a pump still just like how any coins can do? The graph on bittrex seem to have come down now. I does seem like users are already dumping it. Dark market don't matter to you if you are not in the shady business so this coin must really be for them only.

bitcoin was around $100 when its primary use was in Silkroad

Bitcoin went from $1 to $31 in the first few months of Silkroad.
Feb2011.

Then it fell to $2 so...

What are you saying? That this is nothing but an empty pump? I disagree. The news of the darknet market accepting XMR is very big. Surely this is not just because of that news. XMR has the properties to be a good alternative to BTC and even a complement because it can be used as a second layer to make BTC more fungible and somehow anonymous too.
10992  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: August 29, 2016, 02:29:01 AM
I am now speculating that it is not just the bloggers that are dumping Steem. Also I do not think the founders will run away with the money like Decentralized said. But the question is why is it going down? Is someone gaming the system? We have seen this happen before where click farms are hired by a group to create accounts in a site. Maybe it is happening now on Steemit. Is there someone with the data that shows where an account was made and the Steem was immediately sold?
10993  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin will become fungible like Monero? on: August 29, 2016, 02:22:44 AM
What if bitcoin users use Monero as a layer to make their BTC fungible. Or maybe develop a sidechain that uses ring signatures. Would that be a good idea? The development team of bitcoin should surely be taking Monero seriously now that there is a real and big market that is already to accept it.
10994  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How and why Steem failed ? on: August 29, 2016, 02:17:52 AM
In the real world if you are not popular or if you have no influence no one will pay attention to you. It is the same online. Maybe in facebook and twitter you thought that you are popular and make smart posts because you have a lot friends and followers. You thought that they are all paying attention to you. But when that same person joins Steem he will realize that no person will waste upvotes on his posts because they represent real money. So do not expect to make money just by using Steem.
10995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero pumpers = dnm owner? on: August 29, 2016, 02:12:07 AM
what do you think?
are the monero pumpers the owners of the darknet markets that accept monero?

or even monero devs are dnm devs too?

I am not saying they are involved but think about it. This market is not regulated, no one will go to prison, there is money to be made and there are insiders who know about the news before it is released. I would be naive to think nobody was buying XMR before the big news. That is the way of the trading market regulated and unregulated, there is nothing wrong with making money. It will only be wrong for someone if he is left holding at high prices and it suddenly went down. But that is the game we have to accept it.
10996  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin will regain it position on: August 29, 2016, 02:06:24 AM
If litecoin doesn't do anything significant within the next month, it is pretty much a useless coin to invest in/hold. People want returns. Litecoin does not provide returns.

This is very true. LTC is not dead but it is dead in the market and the price is not moving almost. If LTC really wanted to become something more it should have slowly developed the use of ring signatures in its code. The founder and the development team lacks the foresight to make such a move and take risks that is why it is trailing behind other coins. Or maybe they are just lazy and uninspired.

LTC is a very good example of an uninspired coin. Do not follow their example if you are a developer.

10998  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can coins like Monero challenge Bitcoin? on: August 29, 2016, 01:51:44 AM
I can see something happening where XMR will be in the running to replace bitcoin. The people in the cryptosphere have always been looking for a new coin they can support. Why? Because for some people bitcoin is trying to be what it should not be. It is trying to be in the mainstream and in the process it has been corrupted by the people who want to take it there. Do you think those people really care about bitcoin? Do you think the Winklevoss twins are in it because they want to change the world and disrupt banks? No they are there for the money.

Maybe so with the Winklevoss twins, but there are some people who are kind of in it for both of those reasons... think about it, they wouldn't have been one of the first adopters of Bitcoin if they didn't have some fundamental belief in what Bitcoin can do.

Example A) Look at someone like Roger Ver, he is a rich guy, yeah I get that; but he is going around to all sorts of places spreading the word of crypto currencies and, to me atleast, seems to be genuinely in it for the currency itself and thinks that it will change the world.

The first people to have found out about Bitcoin and invested in it all had the same sort of ideological beliefs... now those beliefs are starting to get a little hazy and less defined.

Yes. There are some believers who want to take cryptocoins to another level and take it to the mainstream. But as I said some of those believers are willing to take too much risk just to see BTC get there quick. One example is the support of some of the believers for Gavin's XT. This is a major step with risks. The Ethereum fork is a good example of how a hard fork can go wrong.

I have lost faith and confidence with Roger Ver as a believer because it was looking like he sacrificed his idealism by supporting a version that he thinks would take it mainstream even though there repercussions. Now he is joining the bandwagon with XMR. Why? Because there is a good possibility he bought XMR at low prices. He is in it to make money and it is showing now.
10999  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: August 29, 2016, 01:41:42 AM
...

You mean to say when I use the light wallet I would also have to open simplewallet.exe in the console at the same time? I do not get it. I thought you only open the light wallet and do everything from there.

Lightwallet uses simplewallet behind the scenes, but you shouldn't have to do anything special to get it to save. After it completes the sync it will issue a save command every few minutes, or there is a button to save it on the wallet tab. Initially it says "Not saved Sad" in red, but should change to something green when it successfully stores the wallet.

Yes it said that it already saved and the color changed to green. So I closed the wallet and the reopened it then it started to sync again from 0. I was using Windows 64bit. Maybe it needs a little tweaking. Anyway I will try again using Linux later tonight if I have the time.

Weird. I've tested it more on Windows than Linux for sure. Are you launching from a different directory or something from command line or something?

I put all the required DLL, simplewallet.exe and lightwallet.exe in one directory and started it from there. Is there something wrong if I do that?

Release the kraken Cool

Kraken? Like the exchange? If they add this to their coin offerings that would make XMR look more legitimate. Maybe a better exchange for this is BTCe. They do not collect documents and it would be best to use them or Shapeshift if you want to keep your anonymity online.
