11041  Other / Off-topic / Re: What security measures would you take as a dark market kingpin? on: July 29, 2017, 10:18:10 PM
Heck, I would probably take it even a step further.

I'm trying to remember where the story came from, but I believe it was from an old friend that was an ex-con. Lol, it was either him or Breaking Bad.

He was a meth cook for a while and I believe he said that he had rigged up a lab where if there was ever a raid they had their batch booby trapped to automatically dump into a bath of sulfuric acid. You might want to add that one to your list.

Another one he used to do was take a drive. A long one. Maybe 1.5-2 hours each way. He said he would have someone drive him 2 hours one way and then they would immediately flip around and go the other direction. The whole time, the passenger would be writing down all the license plates of the vehicles around them. Once they would get home they would compile the lists from both directions. Their theory was that there shouldn't be any plates that match going both directions. If there are.... someone's following you.

Tweakers are always paranoid. If I was a dark market kingpin, I would be as paranoid as a tweaker.

I like the way these people are thinking.

It's bizarre how slack both of these guys were when everything hinged on not being compromised.

So, typing away in a throne in a dungeon teetering on a lake of acid filled with sharks.

What next?

Dead simple. Make everyone an awful lot more affluent. People only squirt them out if there's an incentive to do so. That's either more dole, most of them die early, you need an army of them to plough with their bare hands.

I am not outing myself here. I think it's a silly business, but I've been reading about Ross Ulbricht again and of course Mr Alphabay.

Both of them operated in a very silly manner. Two people knew Ross's involvement in SR from minute one, there's leaving of his gmail address buried in the Bitcointalk server, and his operating SR in public places allowing the feds to grab his laptop before it could be encrypted.

With Mr Alphabay there was of course leaving his email address, but also flaunting Lambos and mountains of property.

So if you were to embark on such a life, how would you do it differently?

I for one would begin by only doing my nefarious business in a locked chamber. If you can wipe your laptop with one button press, you can physically isolate yourself for long enough if someone comes for you.

What else would you do?
11044  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Seriously, smartphones will die within 10 years. on: July 27, 2017, 08:21:56 PM
The future of smartphones are small phones built into your clothes, so you don't have to remember about taking them with you or losing them. They will connect to any mobile device in your area, so that if you want to take a video call, you'll just step into a nearby store, stand in front of a tv or a laptop and you'll be able to see the caller without installing any software or connecting that computer to the network. All will be handled by your mini phone, that hides somewhere in your collar or your shoe.

This gets my vote. It makes the most sense.

I do wonder though whether the staggering willingness of people to give up everything to these companies might cool off between now and then. I really don't think enough people have taken the time to ponder what effect it might eventually have. They're going to find ever more creative ways to exploit everyone's personal information and hackers and authoritarians will be right there with them.
11045  Economy / Services / Re: [Slots Increased but still FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: July 27, 2017, 07:50:45 PM
Chipmixer should make space for some of the people in the queue, you got some chumps posting and making money while legends that know about bitcoin and actually speak native english aren't making any money thanks to bitmixer leaving out of nowhere.

The rest of the campaigns just dont cut it. Bitsler got some good rates but its annoying as fuck having to get paid in some third party website, the rest are either full or have scam tier low rates.

Campaigns are a sweet bonus and a privilege with obligations to no one. Even if they were paying a fraction of what they do already they'd get enough people on board. And they may not be around forever. 5-10 years down the line people reading this forum will be gaping at how much was flowing every week to posters.
11046  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: July 27, 2017, 12:55:00 PM
Considering companies with tens of millions of VC funding like GDAX and Kraken can't build exchanges that can take the heat, does anyone know how functional this company's products are?
11047  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: July 25, 2017, 01:30:33 PM
What does this mean?

Poloniex:
"XEM is currently under maintenance or experiencing wallet/network issues. Deposits and withdrawals will remain disabled until a solution is found, which may require an update from the XEM team. Any updates must be tested and audited before enabling."

There was an announcement from the developers to super node operators about a mandatory upgrade. I assume this is the same thing but they're not paying attention.
11048  Economy / Speculation / Re: GBTC Bitcoin Investment Trust Observer on: July 25, 2017, 01:06:58 PM
My guess is the trust will keep them for themselves. They know many who get into GBTC have limited options. I got it in my IRA because it is difficult to get BTC in one.

People putting money into GBTC are not getting bitcoins in return. They're getting shares in GBTC.

Bitcoin Cash has nothing to do with them as they themselves have nothing to do with Bitcoin.

No. I mean, 6 feet under. No biological function. Cold to the touch.

Maggot food.

That's not very nice. All he needs is a few months of intense breastfeeding and he'll be right as rain again. Let's send him to an isle of wet nurses and welcome him back at the appropriate time.
11050  Economy / Speculation / Re: August 1st vs Hard fork in November discussion on: July 25, 2017, 08:59:30 AM
That won't prevent a 2MB fork from happening. We already see with BCC that some parties are willing to fork off without consensus and widespread support, something similar may very well happen again.

This fork is supposed to be essence of non contention. It won't be. It'll be ignored by the majority. Then we'll have even more free and irrelevant forkcoins.
11051  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: The lagest Bitcoin mixer is about to stop working on: July 25, 2017, 08:41:55 AM
There is no quitting in this business, you'll soon understand what I mean, when you enter this business you'll have to stay in it till death do us a part.

If I were a drug dealer used your service frequently I'd be keep looking for you and eliminate you because now that you want out you are a loose end.

I think you didn't think about that did you genius? once you're in then you're in for good, now you should calm yourself down and get back to the business

As usual, we're worst than any fucking government or any organization, we act when we feel danger, we act by eliminating any loose ends.

Golly, you sound scary.

Kind of the same as all those Silk Road millions that went down with Gox. How many times was Mark Karpeles murdered again? Not very many as far as I can tell.
11052  Economy / Speculation / Re: August 1st vs Hard fork in November discussion on: July 24, 2017, 11:22:41 PM
It's impossible to say at this point. I am leaning towards a 50% chance of the hard fork kicking in like it should, according to the proposal terms. The other 50% will cause the fud train to start rolling again, and may even temporarily make us move through a bear market. But hey, we can only speculate about what might or might not happen by that time. None of us here can add anything contributing to this matter as we as community members are basically muppets in this whole situation.

I'd be gobsmacked if every single player chose to run that code. Despite all the Unlimited shit not one single signaller of note was actually running it. It was Core all the way.

The Garzik crew is basically asking everyone to jump on board and not look back in a matter of weeks. That's every dollar, Euro or Yuan ever invested being expected to depend on something that barely exists yet. That simply is not going to happen.
11053  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: The lagest Bitcoin mixer is about to stop working on: July 24, 2017, 11:19:23 PM
guys, OP can't admit it but they are under duress.

This is as obvious as it gets and this is their form of warrant canary. OP specifically mentioned those honeypot coin alternatives to simultaneously aid law enforcement create new investigations on users that don't catch on, as well as make it obvious as code words for their duress.

OP didn't say Zerocash, which has the optional opaque feature although nobody uses it properly. OP said Zerocoin.

OP didn't say Monero, which would stifle all law enforcement effort. In fact, no mention of cryptonote technology at all.

The incongruency was worded to be obvious to any body here for some time, but simply cannot say anything to reveal the state action against him. So therefore it is my turn to reveal how that works to help you all.

In response to non-disclosable actions by the government, some operators of tech services just shutter the service. This is what you saw with encrypted mail services in the past that weren't decentralized enough to simply ignore government pressure.

You could well be on to something there.
11054  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: July 24, 2017, 10:34:02 PM
What happened to the proposal that was asking for 10 million or so NEM to develop a framework for NEM?

I missed the voting part and haven't read about it in a while. Did they get funded?

Nope. It seems to have fallen foul of some of the rules namely the need to provide milestones that have to be met. I don't really understand why the foundation itself was applying for funding when it has funding pouring out of its arse already.
11055  Economy / Speculation / Re: August 1st vs Hard fork in November discussion on: July 24, 2017, 10:28:50 PM
I don't think the 2MB fork is going to happen, certainly not by November at least.

Segwit was a comparative piece of piss - a thoroughly tested, ready to roll soft fork. A hard fork is a different beast and I don't think the developers will have enough weight to convince anyone else to run it.

There is no way every exchange, miner, economic player and wallet is going to leap wholesale into code that's a few weeks old developed in private. That's a fucking joke.

If Core proposed that they'd get their arses kicked, let alone anyone else.
11056  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: The lagest Bitcoin mixer is about to stop working on: July 24, 2017, 07:08:44 PM
A real shame but a very sensible move.

There's money to be made but who knows how irrational the legal apparatus is going to be if you're tracked down? They'll probably find you a law that's been broken somewhere.

Be thankful that they ran for so long and so successfully and bowed out with class.
11057  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sexbots. Will you be indulging? on: July 24, 2017, 04:39:22 PM
Disgusting, Man is given great favor. Couples will make humans more honorable. Getting married is the best way to live more peacefully.

Erm, not in my experience. It seems like a recipe for utter misery.

Anyway, what no one here seems to have picked up on is that vibrators and those yucky looking sleeves that you insert your Johnson into already are sexbots. This is just taking it to a stage higher.
11058  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Other payment networks are not going to wait for Bitcoin to grow up on: July 24, 2017, 04:34:29 PM
Compared to a regular commercial offering, Bitcoin is always going to be somewhat sucky.

Assuming it can solve the scaling, there's still the matter that owners want to hoard it, not spend it. That's always going to vastly restrict retail usage apart from a few committed people.

Maybe that'll settle down when penetration is far, far higher than it is now and by then any technical gripes will be long gone anyway.
11059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking back at really old transactions at today's value? on: July 24, 2017, 12:59:50 AM
Down that road madness lies.

I've spent quite a bit recently but it's at a price level where I'm way in the black and it's about time I started to exploit it. If it goes to $100,000 I'll somehow still be able to live with myself.

I don't think I'd be a very happy Alpaca sock buyer though but I wasn't around back then.
11060  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a relation between Bitcoinprice and Gold price? on: July 23, 2017, 11:59:31 AM
Apart from a small minority I don't believe there's much overlap in who's buying both of them so I don't see where an overlap can come from.

Some people like to think Bitcoin is a safe haven a la gold but I think they're deluding themselves. It's many years away from fulfilling the role gold does. It does do it far better so perhaps the day will arrive.
