Any tips for the weekend? (And I'm not talking about the round ball game that's on at the moment 😂 )

The end of year is quite a lull in our various codes.

I really need to stop with the Rugby handicaps

I try to avoid spreads because I always fear I'm going to place my bet on the wrong team.
1123  Economy / Lending / Re: Need to get a 0.044 btc loan within the next hour on: December 14, 2022, 07:00:51 AM
I am seriously looking for a loan.

I will repay in 3 days.

Must be why you'd ask an OP that has been inactive for the last six months if they are still facilitating loans. 🤯
1124  Economy / Gambling / Re: 0.025 on Morocco lol on: December 14, 2022, 06:47:43 AM
doesn't actually show that you've placed the bet

Not to worry, Ill be sure to post the results and include the blockchain explorer proof of my withdrawal.

Freebitco.in doesn't work that way.

There *was* a betting site that paid out to a nominated wallet address (can't recall the sites name off the top of my head - they went belly up many years ago) once the results were official. The deposit address was also your betting slip.
1125  Other / Meta / Re: List of Inactive Mods (Last seen a long time ago), do we need replacements ? on: December 13, 2022, 11:23:48 AM
I agree with the OP the rot set in with the admins and mods a long time ago and a broom needs to be taken to sweep out the cobwebs from that long dead list.
1126  Economy / Gambling / Re: 0.025 on Morocco lol on: December 13, 2022, 11:05:27 AM
Your screen grab doesn't actually show that you've placed the bet, but yes, I do think Morocco will be the ones to place a wager on for that match up.
1127  Economy / Lending / Re: Need to get a 0.044 btc loan within the next hour on: December 13, 2022, 10:57:51 AM
The OP should have said they have no self-respect.

Artists will do a piece of work in another artists' style and use the phrase "after <artist's name>" to identify it is in another's style.

The photographer is kidding themselves that it's plagerism.

1130  Other / Off-topic / Re: Singaporean Artist Devastated Plagiarism Suit Tossed Insufficient Originality on: December 10, 2022, 05:06:50 AM
Interesting, but for me somehow doesn't fit to Mera.

I'm sure Mera will be disappointed to hear that.  Shocked
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Need 5 dollars worth of Tron. Will pay back ten within 2 hours. on: December 10, 2022, 05:00:45 AM
Mods are pretty consistent about moving altcoin only loan requests to the Marketplace (Altcoins) section. OP isn't trying to hide anything that way  Tongue

I hadn't realised that was a thing.

Anyway, I've unstaked the energy I delegated to OP. It doesn't seem like they tried to move their USDT at all, so I guess their goal was to steal $5 worth of TRX. I didn't do my research properly when offering to stake them energy either - their account is owned by TQFymRj6AD57iFzpCrtHijBXXn5QdQsxAU, which is owned by TGsy6W3T4fs3nAMk4E6ohfXXsosbHXRLvK and has a balance of ~$30 worth of TRX. I'm surprised they even bothered putting 1000 USDT in their address in the first place.

At a guess a scammer isn't worried as to whether or not it's one cent or one million dollars, they just seem to do it because they can.

The Capetown 7's (men's and women's) get underway in about six hours from now.

https://capetown7s.com/

the odds are favouring one side over the other for quite a few of the matches:

Argentina over Spain
New Zealand over Kenya
Samoa over Japan
Ireland over Urugrury
Australia over Uganda

Not sure what the "M" stands for in the next three, but they have

USA over England
France over Canada

and host nation South Africa over Fiji.

Being played in turn, the women's teams are a little bit more mixed:

Canada over Japan
France over USA
Great Britain over Brazil
New Zealand over Fiji (should be a good game)
Spain over hosts South Africa
and the Aussies will pound the Irish team into oblivion (sorry @aoluain  Wink .
1133  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for random number generator based on blockchain on: December 10, 2022, 01:08:14 AM
I want there to be no doubts and everyone was sure that the draw was 100% fair.

That's the vexed question most participants of any competition have that a draw is unbiased.  The pilot episode of the TV series M*A*S*H has the winning ticket taped to the bottom of the glass jar.  Lotteries with ping pong balls have been rigged where a dot of paint was applied to weigh down some balls so others would be favoured.  Cards can be marked and roulette wheels have magnets to pull the ball to a certain slot - the list of rigged games of chance are seemingly endless from a search online.

If you start with the notion that your participants will accept the method used to draw results, then there shouldn't be any questioning of the results once they are obtained.

It may be me, but I never liked random.org -based contests/raffles; there was always a chance the organizer may not play fair.

That's quite true and your point is completely valid.  You've hit the nail on the head that sites such as random.org can be perceived as being biased and it's only the OP's word if they were to use a screen shot of the results hence the use of something beyond the control of us mortals (the block chain hashes).

So imho the previous answers are explaining good some easy options OP can use.

My suggestion was if the OP is interested in further reading on the subject of randomness in general.

Also, do not use it if the amount at stake is a lot higher than the block reward (like 10x+) since a pool/solo miner can risk it to try produce another block hash with the winning number.

Even the block chain result could be swayed one way or another it would seem.
1134  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Looking for random number generator based on blockchain on: December 09, 2022, 02:55:44 PM
If you're interested in further reading then head over to random.org which has information on true randomness based on background noise versus longstrings of numbers.

There are tools for generating sets of numbers, scrambling lists - even choosing truly random colour palates. (Plus there is an app for your phone for random generation on the run).

Wallets such as Ballet and Coinomi will sweep forked bitcoin wallets from a priv key into their app wallet (AFAIK they are "still your keys" - the app wallet that is).

Not sure what their going rate is for sweeping dust for such a large amount, but those two wallets cover a few of the more well known forked bitcoin variants.  (You can also sweep core bitcoins into many wallets too)

(I also have heard "TRUST" wallet will sweep forked bitcoins, however, I haven't tried that one myself - just Ballet and Coinomi apps).

Ensure you have cleared out all "core" bitcoins first before tackling any forked bitcoins.

With the Ballet Wallet you can leave the swept funds in cold storage via their wallet & privkey card.

A Singaporean photographer’s claim of plagiarism over what she called a near-identical copy of her work was dismissed by a Luxembourg court in an “absurd” ruling over its “insufficient originality” this week, her lawyer told local outlets. In a Twitter statement, Zhang Jingna, the U.S.-based plaintiff, said she was “devastated” by the decision, writing that it set “a dangerous precedent” for European copyright law. The ruling comes six months after she first accused Jeff Dieschburg, an art student in Luxembourg, of copying a photograph she’d taken for a 2017 Harper’s Bazaar Vietnam cover. Dieschburg’s portrait, which Zhang claimed was an uncredited version of her work, was put up for sale after winning a prize at a state-supported biennale earlier this year. “Am I crazy or is this insane,” Zhang wrote in an Instagram caption alongside a side-by-side image of the two works in June, clarifying that she was “happy” to allow students to reference her work, “as long as it’s not for official portfolios, commercial gain, and always credited.” Zhang’s attorney, Vincent Wellens, confirmed to a Luxembourg news outlet that they would appeal the ruling.

Feel free to review either (or both) my entire post history and my trust feedback posts.

Good, bad and indifferent.  Warts and all.

It is a happy ending for you in this thread before you lock it. Congratulations on becoming The Sceptical Chymist (may The Pharmacist rest in peace). What happened to the original The Sceptical Chymist who took the name when you announced you wanted a name-change and posted to make his own announcement?

What indeed ??

BPIP has already updated the name too.

I was placing bets yesterday thinking the games were this week, but it turns out they were the women's sixes many weeks away.
