11281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is LISK a SCAM? Charles Hoskinson Opinion on: August 17, 2016, 04:18:17 AM
What is disappointing for most people is because there is no price rise happening. Many claim to be supporters but all they do is complain about many things. But if you price is rising fast you will not here anything even if the project is late as long as they are making money holding the coin.
11282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The DAO FAIL on: August 17, 2016, 04:13:11 AM
The DAO is a good concept. It is still in the early stage of developments. So there will be some growth pains.

....

So there was *NOTHING* that was a good concept in the DAO.  It was an economically ridiculous idea on a ridiculous platform.  It didn't solve any slightest bit of problem.

It was a sham from the very beginning. Many known people in the cryptosphere like GMaxwell, Peter Todd and Adam Back have already said that Ethereum will never become a viable platform for smart contracts. I do not think Vitalik is trying to scam the people but he should know deep inside that Ethereum as a platform will not work as promised. He is selling what is called "snake oil".

I hope developers who know will add to the conversation and explain in layman terms why Ethereum is not viable.
11283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH = Game Over on: August 17, 2016, 04:05:20 AM
I also sold all my ETH for ETC, best time to get into ETC now, ETC stays true to spirit of blockchain whereas ETH does not.
That is indeed the case, but it's yet to be seen if the cult personality around vitalik and the army of bagholders of ETH will go down.
Im sure ETC will pump hard but we will see what happens long term.

Vitalik got conned by an organized criminal organization led by Stephan Tual, Griff Green, and others...
They were gonna drain the DAO over 2 years with bogus business plans like building virtual hamster ranches on Mars or whatever...
But, as it turned out, they could just directly steal the money via hacks, "white hat" seizures, etc.

There is not one corporate Chief Technical Officer in the world that would build on Ethereum today...
Not counting a few tiny startups already committed to the platform.

As a side note, what further proof does anyone need that "wisdom of crowds" has always been a myth...
Something any Vegas oddsmaker could have told you 50 years ago.

That is true that Vitalik got conned or he might be also part of it. I do not think that they intended to steal money via "hacks". They intended to raise money thru the DAO and manipulate the holders into funding their own projects like slock.it. Vitalik is very influential in that community. He even made everyone think and made them agree that a hard fork will be easy.
11284  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: August 17, 2016, 03:17:49 AM
Zcash requires a trusted setup. That's a huge problem. One of the foundational points of crypto is that we shouldn't have to trust anyone....only math.

A trusted setup also means that the Zcash team could print their own Zcash and nobody would necessarily know it ever happened.

Let's say that all of the Zcash core team is trustworthy. Fine, but it's still an assumption. Now, what if a hacker gained control of one of their accounts? They also could "print" their own Zcash without anyone necessarily knowing, inflating the Zcash economy.

Also, check out Zcash website and look at the loads of academic, government, and banking people involved with the project. To me, that makes them even more untrustworthy. Yet another foundational point of cryptocurrencies: you shouldn't need to rely on government or big banks, and Zcash has waded deep into both of those pools.

Bottom line: if you have to trust people, it's flawed from the start. You should only have to trust math.

Just go with Monero: open source, fully decentralized, no trusted setup, totally private, untraceable, and fungible.

Thank you for sharing the articles. I have been looking at zcash and I was confident until I saw your post. I will read the articles more thoroughly and I will ask more questions here and at the zcash forum to see what they think and also their arguments and defense.
11285  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH Foundation was basically caught trading stolen coins in exchanges on: August 17, 2016, 03:11:33 AM
When Barry declared that he bought is first altcoin with ETC then it says a lot more of how he hates ETH than the love he has for ETC. It is an act of sending the Ethereum foundation a message that there are people in the Bitcoin community that are willing to support the original chain to express that they are against rolling back, tweaking, and changing transaction histories in blockchains. I believe Charles Hoskinson is also of the same mindset when he declared and committed to his full support of ETC even he says he is in it for academic purposes.
11286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Only ETC is the real Ethereum on: August 17, 2016, 03:01:21 AM
Minecache got it wrong about what or who has the criminal intentions. No one will now invest in ETH because the whole world has seen the way Vitalik and the Ethereum foundation has run the project. Very sloppy showing inexperience and lack of regard for the consequences of their actions. Add an Ethereum foundation's messy plan of dumping of ETC in the market to that and you got everyone turned off from them. Only the people holding ETH hoping to sell higher are the ones defending it.

While ETC has just welcomed a new investor and adviser. That is Charles Hoskinson. Welcome back to the original Ethereum classic Charles!

i couldn't agree more.
ETH is turning into one scandal after another and it doesn't even end. they are rude enough to do another scam and create another scandal.

and you know the most interesting part of it all is?

if the news about a whale like ethereum foundation but for another altcoin spread that for example they were dumping a lot of stolen coins on the market the price of that coin would have died but ETH price is still up as it was before. which shows the magnitude of the manipulation of that coin.

What are the scandals? Getting the funds back from the thief is to protect the integrity of the Ethereum as a good trading/smart contract platform.

If you look at it that way then the scandal started with the DAO and how it was coded. They said they have created a secure smart contract and even declared that they paid $100k for the security audit. Then what happened? It was not secure and it was attacked and 1/3 of funds were taken away. To make matters worse they did a sloppy hard fork with the original chain now competing with the forked chain. If you were a big investor in Ethereum what would you think of their developers?
11287  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MEMBERS OF ETHEREUM TO RETURN ETC TO DAO INVESTORS PETITION on: August 17, 2016, 02:51:45 AM

Very good article. But are the things written here all true? It could be that they are because they have posted all over reddit about being involved one way or another. A very sloppy job by them. They expected the original chain to go away that is why they did not have any interest in the ETC by them. Now that it has survived they tried to dump it on Polo and Kraken. Cheesy

The article cites a lot of sources and verifiable facts. At the very least you can look at those and make up your own mind, unlike with the Bity explanation for the dump attempt, which was mostly opinion and speculation.

Yes. They have posted many things on reddit and corresponded with the community about it so they cannot deny anything anymore if someone wants this to go to court. Maybe that is why they are hiding behind Bity SA for legal advice. Which brings me to another question. What is Bity SA and why is the white hat hacking group using them for legal advice?
11288  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So, are all the previous ETH haters now ETH(ETC) lovers??? on: August 17, 2016, 02:31:13 AM
I'm not a big fan of the ETH hard fork, but ETC only serves to weaken the reputation of the alt coin community. If they didn't agree with the hard fork they should have moved their support to another coin instead splitting the ETH community into two camps.
im not a fan of fork either though i didnt hate eth before, right now etc is the best currency for me and i think that it is going to grow in the future

I think if the lost DAO can be recovered by the police, then it is good to have ETC. Otherwise, ETH is better.

The police? What are you saying? I am not sure if you know what you are talking about or if you are just posting nonsense for your signature campaign.

A dump by the attacker or the white hate group and the Ethereum foundation will be bad for the price of ETC. But it will not kill it. If they dump, whales and speculators will buy. I am also sure the miners themselves will also buy. It should be encouraged that they dump now to get that out of the way. But the wise thing to do is to hold.

The miners are mostly not the speculators. They will sell the most of the coins they mine as they have the bills to pay.

If there is incentive to hold because it will be profitable, I do not see why miners will sell right away. They would even find other ways to increase their holdings by increasing mining power if it is seen profitable to mine more.

he White Hats and DAO Wars: Behind the Scenes

The actions of the White Hat Group (WHG) have been shrouded in mystery and it is time for this once-necessary precaution to come to an end. Transparency matters to all of us. Previously, it was deemed unwise for the WHG to elaborate on the details of the situation while the salvage operation was unfolding, to prevent new and old attackers from knowing their movements to better understand how to attack DAOs. Now that the community is questioning their actions and intentions, we, at Bity, feel it is necessary to share the details of what the WHG has been dealing and living with over the last few weeks.

https://blog.bity.com/2016/08/13/the-white-hats-and-dao-wars-behind-the-scenes/

So the white hat will return the ETC to the original holders. If the black hat also returns the stolen funds, it is better.

I doubt it will be that simple. The white hat hacking group which is comprised of slock.it developers and ethereum foundation developers has already hired lawyers to "help" them figure out a way to properly return the ETC. These same lawyers they hired are not a neutral party but it is actually their legal partner when they created the DAO.

11290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [FCT] FACTOM - HOW FACTOIDS WORK - PRICE SPECULATION on: August 16, 2016, 06:40:23 AM
Ok I get the idea of getting cheap coins. But why ensure their shorts? You mean to say there are people who still go short in FCT? That is like betting against it. If they manipulate it to go down at the same time then surely their bet will win. What do you think?
11291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which is more profitable? on: August 16, 2016, 06:36:36 AM
@philipma1957, what would you recommend a newbie in mining with disposable income? Let's say I want to start mining Ethereum with plans to shift to other coins once I have gained experience. What kind of hardware would you recommend that I start with as a hobby and to gain experience with?
11292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: WAVES. Ultimate crypto-tokens blockchain platform. on: August 16, 2016, 06:26:10 AM

A perfect wedge on M30. Guess where it breaks out to.

The price movement is ok. No dumps and no pumps. It is a good time to buy right now. I do not understand why some Waves holders themselves are very discouraged and they act like the want the coin to go down. That will give is no good.
11293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][LSK] Lisk | Blockchain Application Platform for JavaScript Developers on: August 16, 2016, 05:27:13 AM
@dleader. Not just that. Look at the movement of the price. It is very stable with consistent bidders and buyers. The support really is looking good and it is also not being pumped by the whales and them trying to play with the price. Everything is going smoothly.
11294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [ETC] Ethereum Classic: Immutable Smart Contracts on: August 16, 2016, 05:23:51 AM
what happened to the 30+dapps that were supposed to be announced last week? did i miss them? are they any good? or was it all lies?

In my opinion those dapps do not really matter. Who was the guy on twitter that posted the news? Is he known in the Ethereum community?

Anyway those dapps are probably small independent ones that will not really make any impact on the platform, ETC or ETH. But I could be wrong so please enlighten me.
11295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: August 16, 2016, 05:20:03 AM
@pabloangello that is very true! It is also why we see why many people do not hold their coins long term. They fear that their profits will diminish. For them their paper profits are already real money which is not. They only think it is.

Yes. Holding long term is very very hard. Imagine you bought NEM at 30satoshi, it rises to 300satoshi, then try not to sell (You dont know then that it will rise to 2000sat in couple months). To do that you need to be experienced investor or complete beginner bag holder.

Hahaha. So you mean to say you have to be completely very skilled or very stupid to be a big winner in trading. That is two extremes at each end of the spectrum.
11296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH Foundation was basically caught trading stolen coins in exchanges on: August 16, 2016, 01:55:00 AM
I believe that the most famous persons behind ETH and ETC are currently Vitalik Buterin and Barry Silbert. I'm not sure why, but lately they are both too silent on Twitter.

Anyway, are there other articles/statements to support the OP's claim?

It is all over reddit. I believe someone from the Ethereum foundation answered some queries over there or something. I'm not sure.

Vitalik and many others have already said they will be 100% on the Ethereum ETH, they will have nothing to do with ETC.

Then return the ETC owned by the DAO holders. There are people from the Ethereum foundation and slock.it who are involved in the white gate hacking group. If they really intended to have nothing to do with ETC then why did they attempt to dump ETC on Poloniex and Kraken. You can read more about it here https://medium.com/@jackfru1t/the-robin-hood-group-and-etc-bdc6a0c111c3#.jgy1h5vfg
11297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETH = Game Over on: August 16, 2016, 01:48:49 AM
Do not be naive. It was clear they had ill intentions from the beginning. Why were they hiding their moves in the first place. If they really were going to return the funds back they should have made it transparent and made public announcements.

They might have ill intentions in the beginning, but they said they will return the ETC. Did the other hacker say the same?

Then why has not it been returned yet? Why did they intend to dump the ETC in Poloniex and Kraken? Now that they are threatened with legal action why don't they return the funds immediately?

Now they are saying they are hiring lawyers to fix the problem and then return the funds to the DAO holders. But they did not say that the lawyers they hired are from Bity SA. That is slock.it’s legal partner during the creation of the DAO!

Sorry DAO holders but you are all getting cheated out the ETC you own.

11299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: August 16, 2016, 01:26:23 AM
My guess it is in more in the 2 year time frame for social media success--and not in the rocket ascent of an instagram outlier.

I believe it is unlikely for Steem to make any changes that would create viral adoption. I thus believe it will peak at much less than 1 million users.

Yes I think you need a rocket viral ascent.

The Chinese appear to be coming to game Steem's curation reward system:

This has never happened before, and Maximum CPC exceeds 800%

Later they will realize they need to collude to take more of the money, as did the Bitcoin Chinese mining cartel.

But Bitcoin has a use case. I fear Steem will unravel. I don't think it can sustain at a low level of usership because the forces holding it up are expectations and later these must turn into fighting over money (Tragedy of the Commons).

All that changes perhaps if Steem has a widespread use case. But I don't see it.

I wonder what it is with Asians. They always like to cheat when it comes to money. They did the same with Stellar when they had a facebook giveaway. It is also the same in games of chance. All they do is try to cheat.

Where can we start playing Spells of Genesis? I was playing Magic the Gathering in my younger years so this will be a no brainer for me. Also please their development team to drop by here at bitcointalk in the announcements.
