11501  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2017, 08:16:24 PM
I get the feeling that there is a LOT of money that wants to come into the Bitcoin market. The problem is, it can't do that overnight without the price skyrocketing. As we have seen, exchanges can quickly run out of coins. Miners must mine and release more, and they may be holding some back. So taking large short positions can be tricky. The OTC market might be drying up as well.

So where to go? Altlandia... ride it out, pump the alts, trade for btc when it becomes available. Depending on the amount of money wanting to come in, this could go on for quite a while.

But the alt exchanges are so buggered that I don't see how you could get significant amounts of Bitcoin off. Poloniex is the daddy. You're restricted to $2000 withdrawals per day and they're so snowed under that you might be waiting months for it to be raised.

I assume whales might have their own arrangements but even then that might not be good enough when the place lags at vital moments.
11502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why I am happy seeing some coins advancig to BTC size. on: June 05, 2017, 07:48:36 PM

IMO BTC whatever make the most money will remain the leading cryptocurrency, because it was the first makes the most money.

If we assume leading = highest market cap, then it's very possible Bitcoin will be dwarfed at least temporarily by stuff that is marketed better, goes up faster and offers more bells and whistles to people drooling for more dollars.

The benefits of decentralisation look like handicaps until they're proven to be very much not. By then it's too late for those peoples' dollars.

11503  Economy / Speculation / Re: What could cause price of bitcoin to crash?? on: June 05, 2017, 06:54:44 PM
Chain split is the obvious one and it's much, much more fundamental than any previous reason for a crash. All of those were third party problems. A chain split cuts to the heart of the whole thing.
11504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A little bit of marketing would do wonders for bitcoin on: June 05, 2017, 06:47:54 PM
Exactly bro. It's very strange why cryptocurrency developers don't do serious marketing outside of the cryptocurrency ecosystem like on Social Media , TV, Radio, etc. Am still trying to understand why this is so

Neither the protocol itself nor the exchanges can handle the current levels of demand. Just imagine what would happen if every box of cereal contained 0.1 BTC.

It's all moving up organically and that's the right way.
11505  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Value of Altcoin IF Bitcoin splits on: June 05, 2017, 05:33:40 PM
Bitcoin's lumbering solidity allows the alts to be the little shits that most of them are as there's always the option to return to Bitcoin.

If that goes then I think it's game over for everything for quite some time. The alt exchanges can't and won't switch to the dollar. Tether can't be trusted in my opinion.

If ETH becomes the backbone of the crypto market then I'm checking out for good.
11506  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cashing out.... on: June 05, 2017, 05:21:02 PM
You can't just say that cashing out isn't the right decision for people without knowing what their situation is.

Yes indeed, but oftentimes it coincides with the poster screeching death, followed by a bunch of wiggly lines and TA bollocks. Then they're never heard of again, or become Mr Duck, and become prime necroposting fodder.
11507  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Legal Formalities to Buy Real Estate in Bitcoins on: June 05, 2017, 04:55:10 PM
I assume they did a deal through Bitpay or similar so the only legal questions will be the buyer's own capital gains. It'll be all fiat on the seller side. I very much doubt they accepted Bitcoin though he paid with it.
11508  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I can't vote for UKIP on: June 05, 2017, 04:49:20 PM
A UKIP vote is now a completely and utterly wasted vote anyway. Abstention looks like the best option or wiping your ring piece on the ballot paper.
11509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Andresen: Making Greg a committer was a huge mistake. on: June 05, 2017, 04:46:46 PM
Mr Andresen is now senile. Bless his previous acts. And this thread will be the same people saying the same things in perpetuity. Have fun, kiddies. And do something more constructive?
11510  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cashing out.... on: June 05, 2017, 04:18:41 PM
I've seen countless attempts make declarations and second guesses about the price. Most of the time they're miserable failures.

Secure profit where you find it if that's your wish. Don't be sad if you undershoot. Never, ever get all your skin out of the game.
11511  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 05, 2017, 04:13:25 PM
Since the NEM devs never disappointed us, I highly doubt that NEM's value will decrease in the near future but rather we could face the fact that a funding worth of 5 million XEM could be soon equal to 5 million USD!

They have absolutely nothing to do with setting the price.
11512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 05, 2017, 01:05:25 PM
With all respect to Albert and Atraura Organization, I am totally and completely against funding any third party organization using NEM funds. NEM funds should only get spent to expand the NEM dev team internally "NOT EXTERNALLY". Any third party organization can create their own crowd funding away from NEM dev funds.
Totally agree with this! Only internal use!

That's ridiculous. There aren't very many of them and they're busy people and not exactly the most reactive or accessible bunch. There's a mountain of money waiting to be used to improve NEM. If an outsider can do it then it should be allocated. Ideas come from everywhere.

I have no clue or opinion about this project, but for instance the upcoming Trezor integration comes from an outside programmer. He did a deal and is being paid by developer funds as far as I know. It's a vast benefit to everyone that wouldn't otherwise have happened.

And this project isn't asking for all the funds upfront anyway.

SameOldSameOld.

You earned the one note poster badge a long, long time ago. Anyone engaging now must have one of those head injuries that destroys your memory beyond five minutes.

Why not devote your energy to tackling the imaginary menace of yiddisher far from here?

11515  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: June 03, 2017, 11:40:27 AM
If the UASF supporters cannot get big Segwit-supporting pools like F2Pool on board (which I doubt) then the whole initiative will fail. Also, they should try to get support from exchanges and from Bitpay - the latter would be the most difficult, as they are supporting the Segwit2x agreement for now.

Now they're in partnership with Bitmain to an extent, Bitpay would be one of the very last groups to support a UASF. Positions will have to be taken even if it looks like only a modest amount of support.

There's been so much hype about Catapult that it had better be earth-shattering...

It's going to be fairly gradual as far as I can tell. The main chain won't get it for a while after it's been activated on Mijin. Don't sell your mother just in case.

What will be the next big news about XEM?

Arriving some time in the next few months.
11518  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 02, 2017, 10:56:44 AM
what?

where can I buy Bitcoin for $250 now?

It's a blast from the past. A hark back to a time when buy walls brushed the edge of the universe. The day may come again, but traders are probably more savvy now.
11519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING NEWS: BTC Now Available To British Investors on: June 02, 2017, 10:18:57 AM
It's nice, though I assume there was nothing stopping Brits investing in the ETN anyway. This is by far the biggest retail investment portal in the UK. Shame you can't put it into an ISA or I would've gone for it.

One thing it is good for is clearing up any banking worries. A bank transfer from HL won't be refused by anyone.
11520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 01, 2017, 06:34:55 PM
Thanks for sharing! I carefully read the review and there are some legit doubts but also arguments I disagree.

The main thing for me is the ongoing lack of action with the main chain and how it interacts with the private ones. It's all well and good saying the private ones can interact with the main chain. I'd like more reasons as to why they'd want to.
