11781  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetically: How/Where is the best place to sell $2M USD worth of Bitcoin ? on: May 11, 2017, 11:09:37 AM
I would forget any normal exchange and go straight to an OTC broker. Genesis trading, SecondMarket's broker arm, has been around for long time now but there must be others.

Exchanges would get uptight and probably do anything possible to fuck with you. There are people out there with the money for that and people looking to link you with them.

Anyone arranging a sale through a lonely hearts ad is going to wind up with knife up their colon.

If you tell your bank beforehand then there's less likelihood of them having kittens as well.
11782  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will be the next $10 Billion Blockchain? on: May 11, 2017, 10:41:37 AM
Amazing to see how far alts have come in such a short time. Imagine asking this in 2014/15 and being taken remotely seriously.

Anyway, I think Ripple is the obvious one. Despite it being around forever I still don't understand a bleedin' thing about it, let alone how it can justify such a price.

11783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: May 10, 2017, 09:34:58 PM
I just read up on it. You have to download the wallet and talk to the bot that's inside the wallet. You sign a message from your Bitcoin address that it accepts. It looks like you have 6 minutes so stop reading this.
11784  Economy / Exchanges / Re: POLONIEX - NO WITHDRAWALS, TAKE CARE on: May 10, 2017, 09:30:51 PM
Considering the track records of crypto exchanges it's perfectly understandable to get your knickers in a twist. Best to allow some time for resolution before running around with your undies on your head screaming.

I'm glad OP got his issues sorted.
11785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: May 10, 2017, 08:59:36 PM
Don't you speak to yourself Wink  ... what do you think or say, when starting the computer :
"How much has XEM risen since yesterday?"

[ ... ksem ... ]

I've spent so long up to my ears in crypto now that I only speak in binary or digital signatures to myself. My internal dialogue is rather more sluggish than it used to be as a result.

NEMsters, the price was falling due to byteball distribution! There is a rush for holding BTC as byteball distribution requires BTC balance holding on a BTC address registered with byteball. This will end in just an hour from now. You should expect crazy buy waves tonight not just in XEM but in all alts.

You should also consider not holding any BTC cause there will be rush in selling BTC too!

You have been warned!

It's linked to BTC balances? Is it free? I think we're rather more likely to see a Byteball sell off myself. I haven't seen much mention of it on here in general.
11786  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese Internet Giant GMO is Launching a New Bitcoin Exchange on: May 10, 2017, 08:53:48 PM
I think this are the points which will be benefited by the japanese exchange as they will perform legally with full transparency so that their should not be any exchange scam.

Obviously exchanges front running and faking trades are taken care of. But I'm wondering whether they'll treat the trading as akin to stock markets or forex. I assume forex in which case their users will still be able to pump and dump with impunity if the laws are like most other places.
11787  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Japanese Internet Giant GMO is Launching a New Bitcoin Exchange on: May 10, 2017, 08:47:26 PM
It is really a great news as this will be official Bitcoin exchange where we can expect that this exchange will be fair and not like chinese exchange where they manipulated the price with bogus trades.

This is an interesting point. I know that they've now legitimised it in Japan. Does that also mean that Bitcoin trading is now subject to regular trading laws such as their stock markets would be?
11788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: May 10, 2017, 08:45:40 PM
How did you come up with 200k? If there were 3000 people in the very beginning, this amount should be much less. But I do not remember exactly how many were dropped off after the audit

1500 is the most commonly quoted figure these days.
11789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: May 10, 2017, 08:36:35 PM
I have a question for all my fellow NEMsters. How do you pronounce XEM? Do you say 'ex-ee-em' or 'zem' or something else?

I have never spoken the word to another human being. If I did I would pronounce the letters because it sounds more iconic.
11790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin ETF ? on: May 10, 2017, 08:18:53 PM
All attempts have been refused. All future attempts are likely to be refused too. The market is simply not compatible with how the SEC operates and may not be for a long time so they can't approve it.

The theoretical advantage is greater investor safety, the ability to buy through the usual channels like brokers and certain tax advantages are possible too. It won't happen though so it's an idea to forget.

11791  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can we admit segwit SF is never going to get 95% approval? on: May 10, 2017, 06:48:43 PM
you're against bigger blocks? or just EC?

I'm not against bigger blocks. I just want the people who introduce them to be competent and not introduce the risk of even more centralisation than there is now. Nothing from the Unlimited crew has looked good enough so far.

Everyone apart from a few weirdos wants more scaling. If something is good enough then it'll be embraced. Going by what's come out so far from them it's not good enough. Of course there could be some Core poison in there, but that means they have to come up with something that's just undeniably better.

It certainly would for me at least. I'd be moving on to a coin that still had a chance of not becoming Paypal.

It is a mistake to publicly share details like this. It increases the chance of theft.

I'm sure he knows what he's doing. It's probably a peach tree that was hit by an airliner and it's on his aunt's land. Misdirection is the first line of protection.
11794  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit dying off in spite of all your efforts on: May 10, 2017, 06:24:27 PM
A bunch of Chinese fellas who probably couldn't fill the top floor of a bus doesn't say much about what everyone else wants. Pitiful that so few have so much weight.

As far as I can tell most people who aren't in charge of warehouses full of blinking boxes want Segwit. That's probably down to it being the least shit option more than anything.

If Unlimited and its various options had been produced by people who are actually competent and it had the best ideas then the majority would get behind it and I'd be fine if that activated too. It's not. They haven't. So I would not be.
11795  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 10, 2017, 06:17:49 PM
Flood.

Jokes aside pretty much none, I have mine laminated buried under my favorite apple tree.

Do you own said tree? Some weirdo might take a fancy to it and decide to steal it during the night. Your wallet might be unearthed during the theft.
11796  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SHOULD I GO TO PAKISTAN ON VACATIONS...? on: May 10, 2017, 06:08:08 PM
Before the muslims took control, there were some beautiful parts! Full of colors and life...

Holy shit. So Islam actually changes colours and landscape too? I think that's enough to make me believe in Allah. Boring old God has never done any landscaping in the last few decades.

What's the downside of paper wallets then?

Edit. As a hodler

The creation of them primarily. Unless you're diligent enough then you might be compromised when making them but there are enough tutorials to prevent that.
11798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: At what price will you sell your BTC, and what will you buy? on: May 10, 2017, 05:22:41 PM
When I say long term, it's literally holding bitcoin for long period of time until to it's summit. But how can I determined that it's already on it's peak? Until somehow I can't managed thatthing really happens.

There will never be a summit. If we assume it survives then mining will end and the deflation will properly kick in. If its value is continued to be measured in fiat then that value will continue to rise long term. No doubt there'll be peaks in between but it'll be glacial compared to now.
11799  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's that time again, it's time to do your part to Support Net Neutrality on: May 10, 2017, 05:12:55 PM
I think it's going to die in the US at least. Americans would put profit before any other single thing and round on anyone who attempted to stop them from doing it.

I wonder who they're recruiting for their security. Let's hope it's beyond top notch as no doubt an army of Russian brats will be devoting every hour of every day to emptying it.
