What if crypto is Skynet and we all die

All this debate over what the blocksize should be or if there should be lightning network and I'm sitting here thinking the solution is neither and that we should have some kind of sharding or tree where not all nodes have to store the full chain.

Bitcoin just isn't suitable for single hits of acid these days, only ten strips and if this keeps up, it'll be sheets. Actually if you're still using bitcoin to buy drugs that's kind of stupid. That should have been over in 2013.

Meanwhile a random coin called 'burst' is up 160%, but nobody is upset that they missed the burst train to increase their coins 160%. Theyre only upset that they missed the fiat train to increase their coins 30%.
1188  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EXCHANGE] Poloniex - Crypto Exchange with BTC/NXT on: December 23, 2017, 07:02:27 AM
I have a large sum of money stuck on Poloniex, equal to half my profits. I have submitted multiple tickets to increase my withdrawal limit, but they are not answering. I am very scared, especially with the nonresponsive support due to the coming tax year change that I am going to get screwed due to taxes, if Poloniex shuts down or gets hacked. If I have to pay 40% taxes with the money I have off of Poloniex, and then I lose the money on Poloniex, I have lost everything. Even if that doesn't happen, since they dont have USD, I am stuck having to decide whether to own a coin or to own Tether, which itself could collapse.
1189  Economy / Speculation / Re: 45% drop - this is new territory, never seen before on: December 23, 2017, 06:53:57 AM
In 2014 it flashcrashed from $600 to $100 in minutes

I think OP is joking though

Creation of fiat is neccessary because they amount of goods, services, and people are constantly growing. If there was no new fiat, fiat would be deflationary and then nobody would spend it - only hoard it like bitcoins.

hold the phone there Tex.

this sphere is finite.  An economy that has to grow to survive is not sustainable.
At that time the creation of fiat can decrease. It's not like it's hardcoded.
1192  Economy / Speculation / What if bitcoin got hacked on: December 23, 2017, 06:40:29 AM
There's beed a lot of FUD and fun trading opportunities whenever something regarding the underlying bitcoin protocol occurs. We can always count on a nice bounce to trade or rescue us whenever this happens - because, well, nothing was really wrong. But what if it happened for real: Bitcoin stopped working compeltely and wasn't coming back up, or someone cracked EC and all the keys were compromised, etc. What would the trading chart look like? How fast would it go down? Would be there be any bounces? Where would the final bottom be? Draw a chart. Even if you made a good trade would the exchanges even let you withdraw fiat? Would they even be operating?

its up 2000% from ATH without the crash and you dont think this is bubble phase?

The only reason any merchant accepts bitcoin is because of services like Bitpay that instantly dump for fiat
1196  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why are people freaking out? on: December 23, 2017, 06:03:00 AM
Theres a very simple reason people freak about drops during the bubble. During the bubble, the rise is occuring because of new participants, and the majority of participants are now new. These new participants have all gotten in at high prices and only have a view of the past week or so of trading. They were not here for the rise or for the history of bitcoin. Therefore when it drops, the drop is very new and real for them, and all they see is red, because their chart is zoomed into the week where they got in, and they are down.
1197  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think the worst of the dip is over for the moment? on: December 23, 2017, 05:51:36 AM
There could be more dips but the rate of reaching new lows will be a slow grind with high volume and not as painful as the drop from $20k to $11k.
1198  Economy / Speculation / Re: When BFX Goes down, BTC will be at $500 on: December 23, 2017, 05:50:07 AM
Your points about 2017 are valid. However, you're neglecting that new we're at price levels 20 times higher than in 2013. So there is a much higher level to fall from and they balance out. You could say 'yes we have all these good things so now the price level of $800 (from 2013) is actually supported'. But we are not at $800 - we are at $14000+

Take a peek into the inner workings. Technical discussion on address format is strangely compelling.

It looks like it secretly might want to do one more to somewhere between $8K and $12K. There still wasn't enough volume.

I think you secretly want that to happen, not Bitcoin
Nope I spoke with Bitcoin and it definitely wants to be lower. It doesn't like this cherade of 'wall street' and winklevoss twins and feds and fiat - being another cog in the wheel. Government approval and stock markets were not in the whitepaper, nor were $40 fees. It wants to go back to the underground and then come back up as honey badger.
