Update on Cavirtex.

Bitcoin Withdrawals are Temporarily Disabled

without any notices, no banners, nothing...

I just bought BTCs and can't do anything with them!!

Way to go Cavirtex!!

Not sure if you've seen this, explains why it is down:

CAVIRTEX ‏@CAVIRTEX

Bitcoin withdrawals have been disabled as a result of refilling our hot wallet. Will be fixed shortly. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Ottawa, Ontario

Link to there twiiter page: https://twitter.com/CAVIRTEX

Apparently they will update people there.

Did you notice who they tweeted to just before that? If I had not done so, they would never had said anything. And now, 23H later, still nothing!!!

No, I didn't.  Just figured I'd look into it and see if I could provide more information.  I just logged into Cavirtex and it looks like they are allowing withdrawals again.  Considering it took so long to fix, I'd say we deserve a detailed explanation of what happened.

I'd say they did a rather poor job via twitter keep it's users updated.  23 hours without any update is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned. Glad I don't currently hold anything on the exchange, or I would have been freaking out.

They definitely dropped the ball on this one and the timing sucked with what was going on with bitcoin.

Are people going on tilt or just edgy? Is it really that serious, I'm reading that this stuff is kinda like influenza in which case we're talking business as usual. Not implying that that's good.

I've seen people go from one extreme to the other on this one.  Some people are buying into the hysteria and are completely freaking out.  Like SARS, I expect to see people walking the streets wearing particulate masks any day now, LOL!

It can only be passed through direct contact of bodily fluids.  There is no reason it should have got as big as it has.  Starting to think it's only got to this point so big brother can come up with a miracle vaccine . I imagine there are Billions and Billions of dollars to be made for a "cure"

Another thread reminded me of this video I saw the other day.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMSaDu1Eh2E

out of control.

Interesting, but not surprising.  I've heard a few stories, and now there is even travel advisory's that Canadians should not carry large amounts of cash if they go to the USA.  I'd imagine Americans shouldn't either.  Cops now presume you are guilty and expect you to prove otherwise.  They will now just seize all your cash and expect you to go through the cost and trouble of proving it's from legit sources.

Guilty until proven innocent. The new militarized American police force motto?

I invested almost all my savings in btc when it was 950. Well, fuck you bitcoin, fuck you and all the Altcoin and everyone else. I hate the fucking day I knew about btc a D decided to invest. Everyone was like "Bitcoin is the future", "Bitcoin to da moon"... yes, my ass. I only have a job which will last only another one month. I hoped to make some money, and I lost everything. Thanks all guys. This forum is so good in giving right info.

Why are you blaming bitcoin and the forum for your own stupidity?  Investment 101, you never put all your eggs in one basket.  I invested a few grand into bitcoin when it was roughly $600. Am I mad because I'm losing money? Not at all.  This isn't a short term thing, it's a long term investment in the future.

By the looks of your case, you were looking into bitcoin as a get rich quick plan.  Those plans rarely ever work out well.  Just ask all the people that lost everything when the .com crash happened.

My current fav. is 2 broke girls.  The show is absolutely hilarious and Oleg just makes me laugh.  It definitely helps that Kat Denning is one of the girls, she's hot! Big fan of Jennifer Coolidge (Stifflers mom) as well. Kinda interesting that she plays the same kind of sex pervert roll.  Wasn't a big fan of the show when it first came on, but i try to make sure I watch it and the PVR is now set to record it weekly in case I forget.

Also been catching 2 1/2 men with Ashton Kutcher in repeats, funny stuff.
127  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm All In - Sold My House! on: October 04, 2014, 12:00:57 AM
I feel bad for him.

You really shouldn't From my understanding, he inherited the home or the money he used to buy the home.  So even if Bitcoin drops to 0, he isn't going to lose everything.  It sure is a risky move putting all his eggs in one basket, but we all our going to have to see how it plays out.  The OP posted in here a while back that he was out and enjoying life.  Good for them.

Not sure if I could sit and watch that much of an investment rise and fall, I'd probably go crazy. Then again, thats one reason I don't invest in the stock market.

Look at Africa, a very small number are dying from the "epidemic"

Strokes or car accidents arent contagious and cant be passed on by sneezing or shaking someone's hand. No matter what happens, the number of deaths caused by anything else on that chart cant go up by a one, let alone many orders of magnitude as a result of just doing nothing. Therefore that graph is irrelevant, the potential for this decease is downright scary.

Irrelevant? Down right scary?  LOL! We could all drop dead tomorrow, should we take it seriously? No.  The graph is a good show of where the threat really stands. You're much more likely to die of Malaria or even Diarrhea than Ebola at this point.

The potential shouldn't matter if people take the proper steps to cleanliness.
129  Other / Off-topic / Re: With Ebola striking in Texas on: October 03, 2014, 07:23:18 AM

You know what, I find this interesting. With proper cleanliness, Ebola shouldn't even have a chance, but here we are. Are so many of us now so damn lazy that we can't even be bothered to do the job properly?

I swear there are more people trying to make this a huge issue than there are people trying to prevent it. It's not even that contagious, but yet it keeps spreading.

Not sure why they didn't just shut the borders down when this started to hit the news a while back. Perhaps the earth broke Pangea apart for a reason...
130  Other / Off-topic / Re: With Ebola striking in Texas on: October 03, 2014, 02:14:16 AM
What would you do if you would live there. Barricade and fight it or get the hell out of Texas.

I wouldn't do much.  It's not all that easy to get.  I see a lot of media fear mongering going on and I see alot of people commenting on facebook and other forums about how scared they are. Basically to get ebola, you have to be in direct contact with an infected persons blood, feces, urine, vomit, and/or semen.

Look at Africa, a very small number are dying from the "epidemic"

If you still have doubts that you might have it, there is this simple test you can take: http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/228818/quiz-do-you-have-ebola/

  Cheesy

Ebola is spread by monkeys and bats. Don't think it causes a real threat to the western world.

Ebola starts from bats but when it is in humans it spreads extremely easily from human to human.

No, it doesn't. It isn't air born, so unless you are in direct physical contact with their bodily fluids, you're safe.
131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If bitcoin was real coins, Would you pick 1500 satoshis off the ground? on: October 02, 2014, 11:16:58 PM
It would be something like 70 pennies. I wouldn't pick such amount.

You wouldn't pick up two quarters and two dimes?

That's funny, I was gonna ask them the same question but forgot.  I don't people that say they can't be bothered to pick up the change.  Sure 70 cents isn't a lot for some people, but 70 cents is a lot of money to some, especially the homeless.

A lot of the time when I find change I'll throw it in one of the many donation boxes you see in stores.  Hell, throw it all in a bin at home and around Christmas donate to the food bank.

What 70 cents? 1500 satoshis = 0.000015 btc = 0.0057 USD at this moment.
I don't think that 0.57 cent is a lot of money, even to the poor and homeless...

Are you kidding me?  Not sure where you live, but even 70 cents goes a long way from eating to going hungry.  There are homeless people living on the streets of Vancouver and they appreciate even 25 cents.  As I mentioned in a previous post, it adds up.  Couple people give a homeless person 70 cents, thats a meal.

It's all perspective. What maybe nothing to you, can be a lot to another person.  Someone goes from having nothing to 70 cents, or even 50 cents, its better than having nothing.

As I said, that 1500 satoshi is not worth 70 cents, but it is just 0.57 cents.
The homeless people may appreciate 25 cents, but probably not so much for half a cent.

While the cents can add up, you will need to spend a lot on the transaction fee in the end, as DannyHamilton explained in post 40.

Fair enough, the topic got a little blurred comparing satoshis to actual coins. You're right, they are only worth 57 cents today, but they could be worth a lot more down the road. Which could change a lot of peoples opinions.

Wait, there must be something wrong here, as you keep considering the value 100 times higher than I do.

We agree the bitcoin price is around 380 USD now, right?
And that 1500 satoshi is 0.000015 bitcoin, right?
And lastly, 1 USD = 100 cents, right?
If the answers to all three questions are "yes", it seems you have miscalculated the "satoshi coin" value 100 times higher.

I had to come back today and look at this while not having beer in the system.  You're right, I read the 70 pennies in the other post and just went from there while not paying enough attention to the decimal points.  So yes, much of what I posted was misguided.

I'd likely still pick it up though, who knows what it could be worth down the road.

Just wanted to say I received payment as well.  Thank you Pocket Dice!

From signing up to getting payment, I have to say it was really smooth and easy.  Will be sticking with this campaign for the foreseeable future.  See how it plays out.  Considering how smooth it has gone with counting posts while pending and such, I'm sure the roll over to the next week will go just as smoothly.
136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive ASICMiner Cube Setup [HD] on: October 01, 2014, 08:40:21 AM
Then the cube is dead, as its a power related issue. Nothing you can do from your end, so send it back to your reseller / ASICMiner if its still under warranty. If not, sell it for parts or try and find someone local to have a look inside, there might be a component which is obviously fried and could be replaced. But at $20 market value its probably not worth it.
I bought it off a tradera auction so I don't it's any point trying to get a refund from the seller, considering it was cheap (and probably no warranty)
Might aswell take it apart and see if i can manage to fix it.

I suggest taking some pics when you take it apart.  If anything looks kinda weird, post them here.  If its possible, I'm sure someone here will be able to help you fix it.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin craze dying down? on: October 01, 2014, 04:46:38 AM
Is it just me or does it seem like the bitcoin "craze" has died down a lot? Not as much people active in talking about it, and especially in other forums for altcoins, there used to be a lot of buzz and excitement but not any more it seems Sad

It's definitely died down since it hit over $1000, but I'd say thats a good thing.  Bitcoin grew too big, too fast as far as I'm concerned.  I know I lost interest in talking about for a while but it didn't stop me from keeping an eye on it and investing in it.

Bitcoin has had a rough ride this year and a lot of "I told you so" were thrown around to people who talked about it and supported it. I'd like to see Bitcoin go back underground so to speak and grow slowly.  Wasn't that the point of it in the first place?

Like any investment in it's infancy, sometimes it's just better to walk away for a while and let it grow up.
138  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Police officer JUST SHOT in Ferguson!! on: October 01, 2014, 04:28:21 AM
They are doing some damage but not really leveling their entire town. Nothing will change IMO if no-one does anything. I will agree that long term sustained rioting is not useful and that the riots should turn into sustained peaceful protests on a large scale that bring the issue to the forefront of our national consciousness. I think what happened in Ferguson needed to happen, if there was no rioting no-one would even know about Mike Brown. It is time the country dealt with the issues of over-militarization of police and the fact they are apparently above the law. People are sick and tired of this bullshit and people deserve to be very, very angry over all the needless police killing.

Yeah, leveling the town is an exaggeration. at the end of the day though, they're damaging businesses that had nothing to do with what happened.  I really hope they all had insurance, because a lot of people's lives could be ruined.  The one that really stuck out to me was the destruction of the store where he stole from.  What did that guy ever do wrong? His business could be ruined for good.

One of the big issues I see with all of this is the whole black/white debate.  All it does it split the people, everyone needs to get on the same page. No where near as much outcry with this shooting: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/sep/3/justice-dillon-taylor-after-white-utah-man-fatally/ . Just read a few of the comments, now I know it's the internet, but until people learn to get along, the police and government will continue to push their agenda.

As you say, the right thing to do is a large peaceful protest, only then will the masses come together.  Of course the police will continue to poke the bear though for a reaction, and they're getting it.  People need to take a deep breath and calm down.  We all know that breaking shit doesn't work. Most people just look at you like an idiot.

The shooting hit news up in Canada pretty fast, then again, I follow a lot of media that isn't considered mainstream. So not really sure if the rioting was necessary.

Not really sure how to tackle the over militarization of the police force down there.  I know a lot of Americans are arming themselves with as much as they can, but is it really the answer? If it gets bad enough, I imagine they will just send in the military, then things will get interesting.

Actually if you're going to play, play craps. Real craps, not the fake shit online. Play dont pass/don't come, 1x odds.

Craps is the *only* game where it is impossible for the house to cheat.

C

What about shaving the dice?  They can always do that. Now I don't see any "reputable" casino doing this but I could definitely see it happen at smaller casinos. Even with that, the casino still holds the edge, even if its very small.  Might win in the short term, over time though, the casino will always win.
140  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If bitcoin was real coins, Would you pick 1500 satoshis off the ground? on: September 30, 2014, 11:30:05 PM
Would you? Or would that be a waste of time for you?

I most definitely would if it was right there in front of me or it was a small detour from where I was already walking.  I pick up pennies and nickels all the time.  It amazes me how many people just throw them on the ground.  I find dimes and quarters as well often. At the end of the day, no matter how small it is, it adds up over time.
