The market works in two ways, is either you are losing or gaining simultaneously. So you can be consistently falling into the category of losers for a long interval just because the techniques or strategy that is used is not sufficient. It's takes thorough examination or analysis of the market to make good profits and also, the market is complex with some many factors affecting it's prices making it difficult to make profit.

Maybe the op had never gain full understanding and patterns of how the market works making it difficult for him to believe that people still make good profits from the market without much analysis. Although making good profits might be as a result of consistency and focus with luck.

Whether it is overpriced or not, more investors will still be interested in buying the coin if  the price keep going up. Most times the crypto market is unpredictable which is the reason why profits and loses are very much constant. When an op loses another one gains. A lot of people might be lured to buy this very coin just because of it upward movement, then the price suddenly falls making a lot of people to lose their funds.

The op needs to understand that a lot of risks are attached to trading, so he needs to understand all that is involved in trading including risk management and lot size uses before embarking on it. Demo trading is good to build a strategy, also it helps to know how the real time movements of a particular market looks like before going into live trading. Like we all need know that emotions is not attached when demo trading cause it's not a live account and if eventually money is lose, there be no regret or further emotional feeling  maybe because real money is not involved.

Mine was completely different from your experience cause when I hold  Bitcoin and some altcoins then from 2017 to 2021, I was surprised on what I saw. It was almost 10× of my initial capital which was due to the strong bullish move. Maybe because it was Bitcoin but I also remember the price of few altcoins then when compared to now that the price had gone higher than I expected. Although some altcoins developers are not just serious in handling their projects which had really affected the bullish price of their coins.

Airdrops are not that bad for one to participate in but this recent time with the rate at which scammers and hackers are looking for fast means to make money in crypto with their different strategies of creating fake airdrops, altocoins just to synphone people of their hard earn money and valuable time which can be invested in something else that can give good returns. A lot of persons had participated in so many airdrops that had yeild nothing with some many time and efforts wasted.

We all know who Elon Musk his, he  a billionaire not just an ordinary business man who is  influencial. This man has a  influence in the crypto market which is limited to some cartain coins. I won't advice anyone to invest in Dodge coin cause of it great risk because Elon may just decides to dump it just the same way he dumps Bitcoin and criticize it of being hazardous to climate change. Since his aims is to make more profits from the market which is the ultimate reason he dabbled into the crypto market, i could advice anyone to just to leave it cause he can suddenly dump it once he has accumulated enough profit.

Get a loan if paying will not be difficult but since you intend investing it on a long term basis, always try and do market survey on the leading altocoins or probably taking your time to search for new coins that would have greater tendency to appreciate more with time.
