121  Other / Meta / Re: Notification to all those users registered before the 2015 hack. on: November 07, 2018, 09:49:37 AM
I've come across a couple of posts regarding notifying those who may have been affected by the 2015 hack through pm or email to change their Proglfile credentials.

And if possible those accounts could be locked pending when they come online as most of the users have been inactive.

Happy Birthday.

One year down the road for @iasenko
122  Other / Meta / Re: How recognized are you in the bitcointalk world? on: November 06, 2018, 06:59:53 AM
I've come across a number of posts made before the merit system was introduced which received merits from users who went back to acknowledge them.

I doubt we would ever be able to get to all deserving posts or accounts which were created and active before the trust system was introduced.

This analysis seems pretty accurate in my opinion and it highlights accounts which has been influential to bitcointalk and are likely familiar to most of the current users.

I personally rate trust as the most important parameter as it is the most difficult to earn and can not be easily abused as the others.
123  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about taxing on: November 06, 2018, 05:43:04 AM
I don't think there is any way to evade tax when you're under the jurisdiction.
And tax evasion could be considered as crime. And if global regulation actually ever becomes a reality, everyone from every region would be subject to taxation on all bitcoin transaction.
For now you can move to some other region if you make numerous trades and taxes is a real issue.
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin doesnt only consume too much electricity, it destroys the environment on: November 06, 2018, 05:32:34 AM
I don't see the relationship between consuming more energy and actually destroying the environment.
Bitcoins energy requirement is not taking out of any one's home ratio or a companies mega watt, so no one can say they are depleted thanks to bitcoin mining.
The energy comes from reserves and excess energy.

Honest Mining's Chief Executive Officer, Lawrence Samantha

Nice way to draw a sharp contrast and paint bitcoin miners as 'dishonest' without actual  implying it
People are entitled to their opinion, but they should not present it as fact or use it as a strategy to draw others to their side.

The POW algorithm has been very successful since it was implemented on the bitcoin blockchain. And very secure.
While POS just requires those with deeper pockets to earn more by simply chinking the coins in their pockets, POW requires them to do actual work and ran there reward every single time.
126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can we make Crypto go viral? on: November 06, 2018, 05:15:37 AM
For this post I would interprete viral, as mass global adoption.
As holders, you can improve awareness about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies I'm your locality and take advantage of options to purchase goods and services and use bitcoin for payment. Which would help improve it's popularity.

Bitcoin has already gained global attention from governments and the financial sector over the years, and majority of people are aware of the rough idea if the concept. So in a way it has gone viral

Segwit is being used to increase scalability and this would go a long way in making it more suited able as an accredited alternative to fiat and an accepted currency.
127  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A question for sending merit as thank you! on: November 05, 2018, 07:06:11 PM
As a starter or a user with few merits, it's very possible that a few or all the names of people who've merited you will stick out wherever you come across them. And if they make quality content which you deem memorable, by all means do.

But meriting someone solely on the reason that they merited you is unethical and not really necessary.

Some say its a 'thankless job' most times, searching for and meriting deserving post, but it's always appreciated, especially by those with lesser merit count. And it is assumed that you appreciate it, if you must show it, you can drop them a pm expressing your gratitude.
128  Other / Meta / Re: Thoughts on Moderators moderating their own topics? on: November 05, 2018, 06:55:33 PM
Moderators can't make make up their own rules even in their own threads. If they want to do that then the thread should be self-modded.

Just so I understand, are you saying they should be allowed to moderate their own threads without the self-moderated warning so long as they don't make up their own rules?

I believe yes. As king as they keep within the ambit of their power and the guidelines governing thread moderation.
They can still act in an official capacity even in their own thread.

If they want to make up their own rules for a thread then it should be self moderated.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin too difficult to understand? on: November 05, 2018, 01:54:34 PM
Bitcoin is not that difficult to explain for anyone actually interested in learning, you'd of course start with the basics and not just get the entire idea in one sitting.

Although you don't have to fully understand it to invest in it, people seek legal and expert advise in numerous investments. Why not bitcoin?
And getting actively involved in it, and using the terms and inevitably reading more about it would increase your understanding.
130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Brief History of Bitcoin: 10 Years of Highs and Lows on: November 05, 2018, 01:38:07 PM
There has sure been lots or milestones and memorable moments over the years.
The interesting thing about bitcoin design which sets it apart from most other altcoins is the futuristic and long-term approach right from the very start and how it was designed to adapt and conform with changing tines.
The next years would surely be very exciting.
131  Other / Meta / Re: [Anti-spam Suggestion] Forbid newbies to post URL's on: November 04, 2018, 11:03:34 AM
I am not sure I agree with the idea of limiting thousands of newbies because of the activities if a few.
Posting phishing or scammy links I believe would get your account nuked, and users are actively involved in cleaning up the forum these days by reporting such posts.

Of course links are not really beneficial to a poster and should only be used when necessary but I don't think anyone should be restricted (or assumed to abuse the system based in rank)
Reviewing posts from newbies is a better suggestion, this would effectively eliminate spamming and those who break rules can be banned without their posts being made public.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you teacged your breaking point? on: November 04, 2018, 10:54:22 AM
It all depends on why you invested in bitcoin and for how long you planned to Hodl.
And also how much you know of the background information surrounding bitcoin apart from the chart history.
There has been many news and updates thus year, and bitcoin has been more stable than ever. And with upcoming bitcoin ETF decision, and BAKKT implementation. There's lots to be optimistic about.

This not a quick profit scheme, but a legitimate investment option.
133  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbies beware, Fake Binance email, bitcoin whitepaper anniversary scam. on: November 03, 2018, 03:48:03 PM
Actually most of this scams are pretty obvious and easy to see through. But greed is the best tool of a scammer. And when we all realize that there are no free dinners or quick profits scheme and actually get down to work, we stop getting excited at the prospects of some freebies and are less likely to fall into a scam.

Of course other scams are better organized and more difficult to see through. Always stay in your guard
134  Other / Meta / Re: Dashboard upgrade on: November 03, 2018, 03:43:24 PM
I think we should have another one called 'Rules & Guides' or something. They could have some of the basic rules there and a link to the full forum rules and maybe any other helpful guides, and at least people can't complain they can't find them then.

That would solve a lot of problems in my opinion. It could highlight the basic rules and guidelines of the forum and and (banned)users can't complain of not being able to was through all the rules to fund the one they broke or which applies to their situation.

Also we shouldn't expect any more complaints of members scammed while trying to purchase copper membership.
135  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chart may help you predict when the next bitcoin rally is coming on: November 02, 2018, 09:34:25 PM
I don’t look at them because more often than not they don’t give us an objective assessment of the market and we can’t judge with confidence what to grow or vice versa.

Technical analysis is an assessment of the market you make using available information.
Similar to a scientist or so to who has to make a prognosis based upon facts of a lab test or scan.

You use available tools; charts, market history, trading volume. And you speculate on where you think the market is heading.
136  Other / Beginners & Help / Spotting a scam ICO on: November 02, 2018, 04:59:31 AM
The prolonged bearish market of 2018 has made ICO investments very risky and has exposed lots of scam projects.
There has also been a couple of gems in 2018 which made investing in ICOs worth it.
How can you pick out the diamonds from the stones, Especially when they can all get polished and look shiny?

All every ICO has to offer are promises and a plan to actualize it. But making a ground breaking whitepaper and an impressive roadmap is something anyone can do.
And this makes it almost impossible to tell a good project from a potential scam.

No information is too much or too little when researching on a project. Every detail has to be scrutinized, and once you have any reservations it's best to back off (you'd be right most of the time)
You can also seek the advise of experts or more knowledgeable individuals

I came upon an article recently and it was basically giving tips about how to make your own scam ICO, and reading through, it had similarities with every scam ICO I knew.

And I believe it can be used counter productively by investors to spot an ICO which hoes by the books.

137  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: November 01, 2018, 07:33:43 AM

I'm very glad to learn that if we get sMerit points, then we can keep it without any problems. My some friends said that if I receive any sMerit by  making high quality post or article, then I need to use it. Otherwise I will lost my all sMerits for ever. But after I see your reply regarding this, I understand properly.

While there is no option to lose unused smerits yet (it could be implemented if necessary) there is absolutely no reason to keep smerits as it is useless to the holder.
This doesn't mean you should be under pressure to give it out, until you find highly meriting posts.

Brothers, you know that sMerit is used for those who showcase many nice and helpful things before us. Those members of high rank who give sMerit if they do not see the quality of the newbie, then the next newbie will create spam for this forum by creating a small, unusual and helpless post, to earn sMerit. For this reason, higher rank members didn't like to give sMerits to newbie or lower rank members.

Higher ranked members (or any member at all with smerits) does not merit irrelevant posts. Majority of these comes from newbies as such it looks like they are the target, buy lots of high ranked members who don't give out quality interaction also don't get merited.
No one likes spam, regardless who is posting it.
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins is 10 years, Proof it is here to stay. on: October 31, 2018, 11:44:59 AM
A system of payment that has existed for 10 years can't be doubted as a ponzi scheme, fraud or scam as stipulated by many naysayers. Hurray!

A ponzi scheme, fraud or scam can survive and thrive for as long as a decade. That of course does not in any way imply that bitcoin is such.
On the contrary I find such accusations baseless.

Bitcoin would be ten in a couple of months, today, ten years ago, bitcoin's whitepaper was released and we gleamed for the first time to idea of a decentralized currency which would disrupt the financial sector. And ten years, later. Bitcoin has not only survived but inspired a lot of other cryptocurrencies with varying degrees of success.

Gaining acceptance as a financial protocol, especially a decentralized one and while there is an already established currency is a daunting task. But BTC has made significant progress.
139  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Investing in virtual money is smart investment but what time can be harvested? on: October 31, 2018, 11:32:23 AM
I did not quite understand the post, but the title seems to explain the core of your inquiry.
How long does it take to profit from cryptocurrency?
Bitcoin (I'd use this as its the best cryptocurrency investment) has a value which is not controlled, and fluctuates in response to many factors.

Investing is a broad venture and there is no straight path or fixed timeframe to cash out.
You can buy in during a pump (FOMO) and cash out few days or even hours later a little higher at the top. Or you can buy at the bottom and wait months or years for profit. (there is no guarantee)
You can also engage in active trading and basically take the bull by the horn and try to force profit from the market.
Both trading and hodling takes a lot of skill and experience.
Timing is one of the key secrets to success.
140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is neither money nor asset nor payments system, but a mere record of... on: October 31, 2018, 04:27:57 AM
only with a number associated with their bitcoin address. Since this number cannot be practically utilized like food or dollar, that means that investors engaged in a one-way transaction.

The dollar or any other fiat currency can not be practically utilized but are assigned a value by the banking sector of their country of origin. The dollar has no intrinsic value, no equal effort is put into making it, $5 cost as much as $100 bills.

Bitcoin is also a currency which is assigned a value, not by the banking sector but by the community as it is decentralized. And this value is designed to be higher than the cost of production.

The problem lies in the fact that you see BTC/USD pairs on exchanges, and it appears to be pegged to the US dollar.
With increased adoption it would gain more practical use and can be easily pegged to commodities or labour.
Of course there are limitations to such level of mass adoption, but that doesn't make it a ponzi scheme or a one way transaction protocol.
