Yes, you can mine (PoW) and stake (PoS) at the same time. You can even use your PoW mining rewards to buy PoS tickets.

Do notice that it's [INF] and not [ERR] or [WRN]. What it means is that two different miners found a solution that allowed a block at the same height to be found. It's completely normal that it happens sometimes. The next block that is found will either build on one or the other and the fork will be resolved. Remember that all miners are competing to find the block, so sometimes more than one will find a valid block before the others have broadcast the block and/or it has propagated and can be seen. They both submit to the network and both are perfectly valid. However, the one that was seen first is the one that is considered the longest chain - until the next block comes along and resolves it.

A web-based block explorer is being worked on. There will be a block explorer for both mainnet and testnet. Both of those are important and will be available.

If you're having trouble, don't be disheartened. You will be able to claim your airdrop using the web wallet without hassle. You can rest easy.

A native GUI is a number one priority. There's already work going on for a native Windows wallet GUI vis-à-vis Paymetheus. Getting some UX designers involved would be excellent too. Stake voting pools would be another highly interesting endeavour and a top priority. Do keep in mind that the web wallet will serve as a means to get less technical users involved. However, that is basic and you won't be able to do any stake mining using the web wallet, but you will be able to import a seed, generate a wallet, and send/receive transactions.

Testnet is live. You can read the announcement here. OP will be updated now. All testnet releases are in signed binary form right now - so run in a VM for the security conscious. All source code will be made free and open-source close to the launch of mainnet. As stated elsewhere, but repeated here for visibility (things do get buried), mainnet will be launched 1 week from testnet - so on Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016. This of course depends on testnet and if no serious bugs are found, the schedule will stick. More information will be posted as it comes in. I'll make sure to update people on all the platforms.

You will be able to mine on testnet either today or tomorrow. It is recommended you mine with a dedicated GPU - you won't get much mileage with a laptop (even if you're referring to the laptop's GPU).

You're welcome! Do keep in mind that testnet will be a technical venture. The web wallet will be available at the launch of mainnet and that should be more user-friendly than the command-line. However, a native wallet GUI is a big priority. Paymetheus is already free and open-source, which is a native Bitcoin wallet GUI written in C#. It'd be great to see a few UX designers take interest so any future Decred GUI will have polish.

It should definitely be taken as a very crude measurement. As we know, an IP address isn't the most reliable representation, but it's an interesting picture nonetheless - that's why it was included.


Miner source code has been released. Signed binaries for convenience are coming today for that as well. And testnet should go live today. There will be signed binaries for that too. Then depending on what happens after testnet is live, mainnet gets turned on in a week - as stated earlier, just repeating it here for visibility.

Only those who have successfully completed the confirmation process will be included. There have been quite a few airdrop announcements, reminders, and even multiple rounds of e-mails sent to interested participants to try and make sure everyone completed. The final numbers will only reflect those who have gone through the whole process and submitted a Decred address. The process was designed to be as user-friendly as possible, but it can certainly be considered another check to make sure those who completed the process are truly interested in the project. Nobody benefited from a "submit and forget" approach to the airdrop.

Everyone has until 12:00 PM CST today to complete the airdrop confirmation process if they haven't done so already. A rundown of airdrop is being posted today and block header specifications will be out too. It'll be an active week.
