1225  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [∞ YH] solo.ckpool.org 0.5% fee solo mining USA/DE/CN servers 147 blocks solved! on: January 11, 2016, 02:58:31 AM
How often, with how many TH/s do people hit on Solo?

Does anyone have some averages that they have experienced?

https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/pool/solockpool

ck posts the worker info when they hit but you can also look them up manually at
solo.ckpool.org/workers/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX (the bitcoin address of the miner that found the block)
OR     de.ckpool.org/workers depending on where the miner was pointed.

**if the miner was using a worker extension on the end of their address this will not work!

Lastly, remember this is BTC!  Some people hit with 500Ths that is rented for just a few hours and others have 5Ths running on a home miner that just gets lucky one day (the reason most of us are here).

It is pretty much random. There have been people that hit blocks with an S3, but this was when the difficulty was 40B.

My experience is with Phil's group rental we had in 2015. We had rented 3-4 times at like 5-10BTC per rental. I personally broke even when we received a couple of blocks.

But for rentals, if you put in 25BTC. You will likely, but not 100% guarantee to get a block.

1228  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] FIRST OWNER Casascius 1BTC Silver w/ PGP docs on: January 09, 2016, 02:46:07 AM
I will broker the sale for some of the 70s (not mine). A couple of 0.1s are available now, a couple of silver and golds will also probably be going on sale when they get back from ANACS, hopefully next week. Feel free to PM any offers for the 0.1s.

70s -- which (if any) are from hardbtc/you?

If hardbtc has been in contact with Mike recently, I'd potentially be interested in trying to put together an MS70 silver set with PGP docs.

MS70 0.1 Silver - would pay 2 btc
MS70 0.5 Silver s2 - would pay 10 btc
MS70 0.5 Silver s3 - would pay 2.5 btc
MS70 1.0 Silver - would pay 3 btc
MS70 1.0 Silver+Gold - would pay 3 btc

and 0.5 btc per coin for PGP docs. That's potentially an extra 2.5 btc for you & hardbtc to split, just for getting some documentation in order Cool

Now are you asking 3.25 BTC for a ungraded coin and 1 BTC for PGP ....  ........ .......... .....  Roll Eyes
Buy low, sell high. That's business.

Anyways people that can get Mike to extend the chain are very lucky.

1230  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin is/should be a currency, store of wealth, or both on: January 03, 2016, 05:12:25 PM
I think bitcoin was meant for everyday use, but honestly I have not read Bitcoin whitepaper. Once it reaches some stability I think it will be a suitable way to store wealth. I would feel a bit disappointed if Bitcoin was intended to make people rich (as the people waiting for its price to reach thousands want), what would be the difference with altcoins, then?

satoshi's vision was a way to send value to others without a bank. whether its hourly or yearly..
the problem is that as bitcoin gets more popular. the less capacity there is for people to send value as and when they like, for instance if you want to buy a coffee in the morning and a beer in the evening (2 transactions) will only allow 288,000 people to use it just 2 times a day
(4000tx per block x 144blocks a day=576000transactions = 288,000 people doing 2 tx a day)

Eventually the network will be bottle necked because of the limit of block sizes. But that would only happen if Bitcoin is used more frequently and become a more recognized currency. Currently it is recognized by some governments that have banned it, but other governments are on the sidelines for now with it.

There also is the large debate on block sizes and changing the limits, this may heat up over time as well.

But, based on the bitcoin wiki numbers found here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Scalability
There are a total of 86,400 seconds in a day. The Bitcoin network could handle 7 transactions per second.
So with 86,400 * 7 = 604,800 transactions can be handled.

But there can be larger and smaller inputs to the network.

A smaller transaction for example, consuming 128 bytes:
https://blockchain.info/tx/830a313d7a17b428c44461e07967bf906b585266c4892417accf718c0d9c3018

The largest block size transaction ever consuming 999,657 bytes:
https://blockchain.info/tx/bb41a757f405890fb0f5856228e23b715702d714d59bf2b1feb70d8b2b4e3e08

But in my opinion, Bitcoin is used as both. It has value as a technology and people invest into that, while also being used as a currency which people use as well.
1231  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: What year will Bitcoin reach $10,000? on: January 03, 2016, 04:58:19 PM
I agree with some people on here that bitcoin will need at least 10 years to reach $10000.
There needs to be more demand for the value to go up like that. More people adapting to bitcoin takes time.

In order to achieve a price of $10000 we will need more adoption, that's right, but also less early adopters. On top of that we need to make Bitcoin accessible for institutional investors by offering them a safe and professional platform that can handle their millions without a problem. Then we can come close to $10000 per coin.
Winklevoss twins have that down. I believe the price only went up because of their exchange.

They also have institutional client registration on their website.
1232  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you earn a lot of free bitcoins fast? on: January 03, 2016, 04:56:13 PM
Signature Campaigns are really the best passive income you can get here.

A list can be found here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0

Offering services, flipping goods and alt coin trading are all good ideas to start with. With offering services you can build yourself a group of trusted people. With flipping goods you just need to know the market and try to find cheap items which is becoming harder nowadays. Alt coin trading requires studying and analysis of coins because many are shitcoins that really won't go too high, but you need to cashout before that hits.

And we are looking at a difficulty increase to roughly 111B now.

You said "crinkled edges".  Do you mean reeded edges, like most coins have or are you implying damage?  I assume you mean reeded.  They are beautiful coins in either case.
He says they are redeemed, so it is the hologram just placed back to almost as it was.
Note that these have been redeemed, empty, coin only.  They have crinkled edges.
1235  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] 100 BTC Casascius Series 2 Gold Plated Bearer Bar (loaded) on: January 02, 2016, 05:34:07 PM
Couldn't you just buy an unfunded 100 BTC bar for 10 BTC. Fund it and get it 20 BTC cheaper than your price?

It is exclusive, but I personally think you're being a little greedy. Maybe in 30 years you'll get that premium.

Oh, and why wouldn't you allow an anonymous buyer? If you're getting paid upfront, it's not really your business if they want to keep their identity private.

If the buyer is willing to pay first, the risk to me is 0 so of course I would ship it and identity at that point is irrelevant.  ID is required for the meetup, as stated in the terms.

The beauty of a market with fluctuating prices is that the post can sit here indefinitely. If it takes 30 years and a few bumps to sell at a price I and the buyer feel is fair, I am okay with it. The post was long, I know, but in it I do say the price is negotiable.  Not quite sure how that is greedy since I also say I want to strike a fair price leaving the buyer happy.  Thanks for looking and replying though.
It looks like this is a later funded bar compared to the others.

I think the problem that Fortify was trying to state is, it is a lot of money. The 25BTC coins are hard enough to sell, and mostly fetch a maximum of a 2.5BTC premium, if you're lucky. It is also a hard item to sell because the bitcoin value.

I know you say pay upfront if you were to ship it, but if someone were to ask for an escrow is there anyone you would use? i.e. OgNasty?

Hi ezeminer, I understand it is a lot of money.  130 BTC is my asking price.  It is not firm, so someone telling me it is too high or that I am greedy for asking strikes me as complaining for the sake of complaining.  Make me an offer if you are interested.

I will not consider escrow for a few reasons.  1) There is speculation right now that a very prominent escrower just walked with people's coins after building up a slow scam.  I refuse to be that victim.  2) I am a pretty old school guy, and I prefer face-to-face sales.  I have done many of them, and I know how to do them safely.

There is no mystery here, so it is silly to pretend that someone is a bad person for throwing out a number.  It's a free market.  If I don't get my asking price, it will come down.  Perhaps I will lower the asking price organically 1 BTC a month or something until someone bites.  Perhaps I will get a private offer at some point.  Who knows? I am one of those people that enjoys negotiating and price-finding, provided my time is not being wasted.  So offer away, the worst I can do is say no or counter-offer.  But name-calling and chest-thumping will probably not get someone the best price.  Just saying for others reading this, this is not aimed at you obviously. Smiley
No worries, I was just curious and asking for others that might be interested in a non face-to-face deal. And I was only commenting on the price because you said you have turned down offers of 110BTC and 115BTC from reputable people.

Best of luck with the sale tho, hopefully an awesome collector picks it up Cheesy

I know you're trying to get paypal, but could you do something like coinbase?
Create an account verify, then sell the bitcoins you get for credit?

It might take a while but could be an alternative. And I only suggest this because many people have BTC here.

I also was looking at shapeshift.io but looks like that method doesn't work.
BTC > XRP > Paypal USD using shapeshift and snapswap

To much to risk sending BTC through other currency's with fluctuations and fee's from exchanges etc, then more fee's on top of other fee's for using so many services. It's easier just to accept paypal.

Credit, like credit card?

Btw, paypal I think has Buyer Protection. Kinda leaves me in the dark I think too.
Coinbase does instant credit transactions in some states. (I was able to find out about purchasing, not selling)Payment Methods
They mostly have bank transfers, it usually take a couple days(5) but works in the end. I have only sold back to coinbase once tho.

As to the fluctuating price, it does change a lot.

But I do have to include this if you were to do my suggestion, Coinbase will close your account and not send you the funds if funds are sent to any sort of bitcoin gambling website. The only benefit of coinbase that I can see is, instead of having PayPal buyer protection, people can choose to use a reputable forum escrow like OgNasty. I have personally used him many times and have had a great experience with him.

I only am posting this as it would be irresponsible of me to give you half of the story.

I have no idea what instant credit transactions are. If talking about loading up a CC, I don't have one.
I wonder if Ognasty would escrow Paypal and if it would make it safer? Ionno, I am just trying to come up with ideas I guess.

Man this sucks. I wonder if I can go the route of accepting bitcoin, and then transferring it to amazon? I can buy the phone off amazon too. I think with warranty and everything. Goin nuts.
You can do gyft.com they accept bitcoin and you can get a little discount on cards, like 5-10%. And they have amazon if you're interested Cheesy

I'd like to pick one up and participate in the US group shipping.  Smiley

What is the code to enter during checkout?  Someone can PM me if it isn't public information.

Here's the answer Digi, I do not know because I paid directly after the auction.

It's best to PM me if you want to participate in the group shipping. As I will need to set up a free shipping coupon code so you're not paying for the shipping. This needs to be done in addition to putting "group shipping" in the information.
