Bitcoin is too volatile to act as a currency.

After all that time you've only just figured that out? Off you go then and let me offer a friendly pat on your silky buttock to help you along. If you find a cheeky finger in your crack then I hope you take it in the spirit it was intended.
12422  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Facebook now requiring photo id, fuck you facebook on: March 06, 2017, 09:36:41 PM
Er, this has been going on for years to unlock accounts. Are all the conspiracy hysteria sites grasping for news today?

And government ID is nothing compared to what people already give them by using it 'anonymously'.

The biggest mining pool Antpool made wrong business assumption while planning their expansion and investment last year. They didn't anticipate bitcoin's rapid appreciation. They might have sold customer bitcoins to finance that. Now they will make some noise to cause price pullback. However, this will be their second wrong business decision... and might turn to be lethal for the pool. But hey, other miners will be happy. Bitcoin doesn't care for exceptionally greedy miners.

That discounts the possibility that our annoying mining friend personally controls far, far more mining firepower than he's going to publicly admit to. Bad for business too. He probably operates more than half the pools to give us the illusion that centralisation isn't an issue.

Better withdraw all funds from all services, this is a hostile takeover and could end up very messy ...

Actually its a bit hard for me to understand how someone who has invested millions in hardware can risk that by running untested stoftware coded by some hobby programmers, but ok ...

Condoms and dental dams for all too.

There's a world of difference between squealing and actually murdering your own cash cow. Let's see how Satoshi's careful balance of incentives pans out.
12425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ETF POLL APPROVAL / REJECTION on: March 06, 2017, 08:49:13 PM
We need to realize main two facts:

1. Some bitcoin newbies think that 11 March is some kind of final and definite date. It is Now or Never.
No it is not. EFT will be merely postponed and accepted in the future for sure. Winklevoss might need to add another layer of security to protect customers etc.

I'm not so sure about this. They may have to put together a completely new application. And this deadline isn't the ETF application anyway, it's the BATS rule change.

If that rule change isn't implemented then the Winklevii will need to find a new exchange.

And there are two more applications coming along in short succession.

Antpool just started mining BU blocks.

And there seems to be some brewing drama regarding UASF and dingy miners who are threatening to split the network with BU (shitcoin)

The sooner Chinese miners are sold for body parts by their government the better. They shouldn't have the power that they do. Let them fork off but it would be a worry unless there was some way of truly disposing of them with a PoW change. That may well invalidate the non BU miners too though.
12427  Economy / Economics / Re: A little perspective: $198 to $1139 then and $198 to $1139 now on: March 06, 2017, 07:03:10 PM
I have read interesting articles few months ago where important economists predicted that the maximum sustainable price achievable for the bitcoin would be $1300, and above this mark would be mere speculation, and it seems we are arriving to that limit.

What do important economists know about the ins and outs of Bitcoin? Can they get inside the minds of the people demanding it? It's still a brand new arena. No one knows where it's going to end up.

Other important economists predicted $10 two years ago.
12428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ETF POLL APPROVAL / REJECTION on: March 06, 2017, 05:04:13 PM
wasn't this EFT already rejected many times? i think this time they will approve it

Not rejected. The decision deadline has been postponed repeatedly.

I don't understand why anyone's devoting brain power to trying to predict this.
12429  Economy / Economics / Re: A little perspective: $198 to $1139 then and $198 to $1139 now on: March 06, 2017, 05:01:45 PM
Indeed. It's nowhere near bubbly. The people shouting bubble sure as shit weren't around the witness the last real one in 2013. That was quite stunning to see.
12430  Other / Off-topic / Comic books, do you read them? on: March 06, 2017, 01:13:24 PM
I'm going to guess that due to the nature of this forum, there will be a lot of comic book fans.

What I don't get is how they've managed to absolutely dominate Hollywood when I genuinely have never met a single human being who reads them.

Everyone knows Superman. I doubt 99.85% of my fatherland's population would've had the slightest clue who Doctor Strange was before he was shoved down their throats.

I've attempted a few but it's never going to be a medium that'll ever work for me. And when I look things up on Wikipedia I start getting a headache trying to wrap my head around Logan being in Hell after having died 762 times before he was born, but that's before he splits off and becomes 17 different bus conductors who all turn on him or something.

Are you voracious consumers of them? If you do, do you have the slightest clue what's going on in them most of the time?
12431  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is NEM a scam? on: March 06, 2017, 03:09:30 AM
i say its a scam because it was a giveaway coin where the giveaway was gamed, and it was gamed by the distributors which most definitely makes it a scam in anyone's language.

If it is a scam it's a very patient one. If there was going to be an epic dump of gamed coins, it would've happened by now.

I think the initial distribution was messier and more complex than it needed to be and it's very possible some deserving people missed out, and some undeserving ones made bank. Many of the gripes though are from people who ignored repeated bellowing about redeeming their stakes over a considerably lengthened period.
12432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 05, 2017, 01:55:50 PM
When O when will we see the public chain actually being used by someone? This private stuff is all well and good but it's also tangential. I'm not sure I've seen a single publicised project on the public chain.
12433  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NODE Revolution "Your money - your way" -Temp. discussion thread- on: March 05, 2017, 02:46:08 AM
afaik Silk's identity was known, might be wrong about that though, but if he is public someone could contact him. He can't really refuse a genuine attempt by investors to salvage this project they helped fund.

Were you around at the time? The guy didn't give a shit that the whole thing was dying despite countless and persistent offers to help out from all angles. I doubt you'd get one twitch from his catatonic stare if you laid a billion tons of gold in front of him.
12434  Economy / Speculation / Re: Looks like we are going to test $1,300+ on: March 05, 2017, 01:30:42 AM
People will start worrying about the PBOC, block size debate, etc.... Overall sentiment could turn negative very quickly.

What could the PBOC possibly do now? Bitcoin trading has effectively been banned for the last few weeks and the rest of the world appears not to give a shit and rightly so.
12435  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2017, 11:43:58 PM
My good friend is Pete McMillan and he works as a clerk for the SEC. He sent me a screenshot yesterday of his laptop. On it was the press release for next Wednesday on the Bitcoin Winklevii ETF... So the decision has already been made folks.

Is it wise to have named this fella in public? He might end up in a shipping container in Poland somewhere listening to the Barney song.

As for the revelation that there is a WOMAN amongst us, I can't quite believe what I'm reading.

Is everyone on this thread living on Mount Athos? You realise they're half the global population, right? There might be one within 5-6 metres of you RIGHT NOW.

12436  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: March 04, 2017, 05:54:28 PM
1 cent = 799 Satoshi , the Commission in bitcoin 40k-100k (neither talked about the public (social) blockchain) Satoshi, on the market - 1 Nem = 763 Satoshi ( 0.0094... $ ), in the hope that we are not talking about the 0.00xxx $ values

Blimey. Just goes to show how far up Bitcoin has risen. I wouldn't even have noticed that unless you'd pointed it out.

Did this cause the crash?
http://www.heybtc.com/u-s-federal-reserve-official-warns-the-risks-of-bitcoin/

China says this 10 times a day so its not going to matter obviously. Just very interesting.

Every central bank in every country in the world has said the same thing. The difference with China is that they actually do something about these things.
12438  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 04, 2017, 12:53:28 AM
Har har...you're so proggy, man. Can i be an SJW like you ?

Whoever uses those three letters automatically outs themselves as a distended, knotty penis whether they're an alt of someone else or not.
12439  Economy / Speculation / Re: Looks like we are going to test $1,300+ on: March 04, 2017, 12:08:42 AM
Indeed holders win long term, but the problem here is, if ETF doesn't pass, we will most likely see a dip... so if we are able to sell before said dip, we can make big gains by buying back.
It's risky since you risk losing your position by selling at the wrong moment, or by buying back in the wrong moment, or the ETF actually passing and you sell before you go to sleep... it's giving me an headache.

It's a huge unknown therefore an absolutely huge risk. Anyone going all in on a bet on this particular moment may well get their arse handed to them. If ever there was a time to reduce your bet then that would be it. Good luck to the bold ones all the same.
