Merry Christmas to all.

Finally, got my son's Santa Clause gifts under the tree.  I'm exhausted.  We have a big day tomorrow with family.

I hope everyone here has a great day spending time with family and friends.

My miners arrived, and got stuck at the customs Sad. They are asking for the invoice (proof of payment) but i still havent heard from Bitmain. I opened a ticket on Friday. I called in USA support, talked about 10min and no help from that guy!!! What should i do guys?

You should have received an email with proof of payment that shows bitcoin converted into USD shortly after you purchased them.  Simply print it and show it to them.

EDIT:  I have noticed my most recent invoice from BITMAIN only shows BTC for payment and no USD conversion.  Maybe the BTC will be sufficient.

I love it Philip, I like to mod everything I can as well.  I am working on a 2880 mod and should have something to show after Christmas.   Wink

Looking forward to seeing this.  Please share when you have the chance.

Thanks in advance...

No Batteries.  New Jersey buys back power.

So if you have a 60k plant it works out to about 20k  24/7  'free' power

So while the 60k plant seems large only 20k would free once you pay off the panels.

But since there are no batteries the system is much cheaper to setup.  It also does not break or need much maintenance and panels have 25 year warranty.

This will be a ground install on a 2 acre piece of land. Ground installs are very easy to fix since panels are low not on a roof.  You need land.

The guy I am working  with is on this forum and will do a reveal when we are closer to setup.
I may take a few photos of the site. Post them in a bit.

Sounds like a plan.

Look forward to some photos soon.

Thanks for sharing ideas.

Does S7 have a voltage setting in the ui?

No, I haven't seen one.  Hence, the J4bberwock IBM 2000 BB x 2 with B/O Board and voltage regulator setup was engineered and designed to assist with that issue.
1271  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Large review of Finksy/J4bbrwock server psus compared to ATX psu- photos up on: December 21, 2015, 01:02:58 AM
very nice setup.

for my garage four to five kwatts

one 2880watt and one four thousand watt dual psu will be enough.

i have one 30 amp circuit .

when i setup the 60kwatt solar with a forum member.

i think we will go with the four kwatt boards.  they are quiet and the three power settings  are really nice

Wow, you will have it "going on" with the solar.  Did you make the panels yourself?  I know as thorough as you are, you probably experimented quite a bit already with one rig on solar over a period of time.  I'm curious, are you going with double the size on battery banks than normal just in case you have a couple of days with very little quality sunlight?

Yes, I love the features available for the 2 x 2000 BB PSU's J4bberwock put together.  Unfortunately, it's too much of a pain to do the same with the 2880's.

I have yet to purchase 2 x 2000 BB.  I have the B/O Board, etc... but have not bought the PSU's yet.  Could you tell me if the 2000's are the same thickness as the 2880's?  If so, I might double stack the 2880's to have them the same thickness as the 2 x 2000's before placing the wire shelves on top of the PSU's before putting the rigs on top of them.
1272  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Large review of Finksy/J4bbrwock server psus compared to ATX psu- photos up on: December 20, 2015, 08:44:05 PM
i think the 2880watter is good if you do not have a sound issue.

i would not want to do five of them if i had to sound proof them.

Yes, they are good PSU's.  I've thoroughly enjoyed mine.  Especially, for the cost benefit compared to the Corsair PSU's I first purchased when mining.  Thanks for all the info you've provided.

Sound is not much of an issue to me at all.  Everything is downstairs behind closed french doors.  I have 18 x IBM 2880's total.  I have plans to buy more 2880's and the J4bberwock breakout boards very soon.  I've figured out a way to have a cleaner look with 6 shelves on a 6.5 feet wide rack with 12 x S7's and 6 x IBM 2880's on each shelf.

The main reason I like the 2880's is the way they can be used to easily stack rigs on top of them.  The same thing could be done with the 2000 BB PSU's but each shelf would have to be higher above the other.  I will explain below:

Please ignore the current remodel of my home.  I have one more coat of paint to put on the wall after spackling and sanding a couple of spots.  I also have to fill in the finish nail holes with putty then sand those before painting them.  I thought I would share this with some who might need an idea.

You see 6 x IBM 2880's underneath this "wired" closet shelf?  One of the 2880's is taken out of it's anti-static protective packaging.  I left the others in their packaging for now.

Here is a close up view to show you there is plenty of space open to allow the fans on the 2880's to breath while also resting S7's on top of the 2880's.  So, the 2880's would rest on the wire shelves of my racks while the S7's will rest on top of the wire shelves I have on top of the 2880's

Here is the wire rack I was referring to:

The rack in its present configuration will be changed to do what I want to do next with laying the 2880's flat on top of each shelf.

I would set the 2880's on the wire rack [spaced appropriately]; then place the wire shelf on top of the 2880's; then place S7's on top of the wire shelf that is resting on top of the 2880's.

Each S7 is approximately 4.85 inches wide.  The wire shelf resting on the 2880's is 72 inches wide.  That 72 inches is plenty to put 12 x S7's on top of 6 x 2880's.

Hmm. Well, it does not really matter. Not sure where your power for peripherals will go, unless you use millions of RasPi, i think you'll be fine.

And you're right, i added a 0 at the kW for some reason. It would be 1000/16.5=60.60*110 6.6whatever PH/s per mW.

And then Gridseed said they were going to roll out 0.06efficiency i believe? Then that would be about 15 PH/s per mW.

If many manufacturers come out with very power efficient rigs starting spring next year (around March), I can see the S7 becoming equivalent to the way an S5 is right now by block halving IF THE PRICE OF BITCOIN DOES NOT KEEP UP WITH THE DIFFICULTY.

The REAL test will be at block halving.  It will be an interesting last 3 months before block halving with the difficulty and price of bitcoin for sure.
1275  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone Farming Bitcoin in their Garage or outdoor Shed? on: December 20, 2015, 05:58:05 AM
Hence your Signature Dmwardjr.  "The Few, The Proud, The BTC".  I was sadden to hear my Bro-n-law who was really interested in this idea but his Electric rate was way too high to participate.  He would definitely be a huge contributor as he's a super Genious in programming, electrical and all things GEEKY.  I saw your 15 box of S7 waiting for power, that definitely does hurt.  But then again to get to your level, lots of things have lined up properly before this delay so I'm not concern about you the "Professional".   I just really need more people with experience hosting it in a shed to Chime in to let me know it's possible and this idea is not a stupid one before I invest over $4000 in Electrical, Shed and other land clearance to make it happen.  Until then I'm experimenting in the garage.

P.S Wife finally notice the S7 after I've had other similar boxes laying around the house for almost 3 weeks now.  She said what is that thing, it's so hot!  Is it safe to be here?  I said "hmmmmmmmmmm................we have a bunch of it's siblings (S3+) as space heaters all over the house and you didn't notice, so yeah, it's safe no worries"

No worries with those still in boxes.  I'm about to hook up 9 more of those 15 soon enough.  I held off from hooking up more because I figured out a way to have 6 x S7's within a space of approximately 36 inches wide with a clearance of 11 inches overhead before the next shelf above it.  I went to Lowe's to get what I needed to accomplish the job.  Now, I'm just waiting on more PCI-e cords to arrive Monday or Tuesday from Finksy.  So, I'm leaving them still in the boxes until the PCI-e cords arrive.  That will leave only 7 units sitting in my old mining closet until my power gets upgraded.

I actually have 16 instead of 15.  One was unboxed and sitting upstairs.  I have 35 x S7's in all.  I haven't mentioned this in the forums yet:  I have one rig [The second box I opened] that came with one burnt PCI-e jack on each blade.  It was very disappointing to say the least to receive a rig that is supposedly not under warranty because it ARRIVED burnt.  I checked to see if it will still hash.  It will but it's sporadic.  That's the one that is upstairs.  I'm hoping to have no issues with an RMA on that one before my power gets upgraded hopefully 3 weeks from now.

I never have my power cord plugged in the wall while hooking up PCI-e cords to new rigs.  It is just a habit for me not to have power hooked up while setting up.  That's what kind of perturbs me with receiving this burnt rig.  An employee probably hooked up with hot cords OR put them in reversed then flipped the power on and burnt them.  Who knows...  I just can't understand how one would do this AND THEN still package the damn thing.  It just pisses me off!

I did not mention it to avoid putting a bad light on BITMAIN.  It's more the fault of an employee for bitmain instead of bitmain himself.

EDIT:  I just got an email saying they wanted to confirm my address.  So, I'm not sure if they are sending new blades to me first OR if they want me to send my blades to them.  I'll find out today more than likely.
1276  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone Farming Bitcoin in their Garage or outdoor Shed? on: December 20, 2015, 05:15:24 AM
Hehe.  Just admiring DMwardjr's setup.  He's going to upgrade to 800AMP!!!   I'm getting my Power upgraded to add 2 x 220V line outlet on Monday so I can house up to at least 8 x S7 or equivalent boxes in my garage and see how that goes first.  Going to install the Windeevent also to help with the circulation.  Very cool stuff, will start with 2 Vent and see how that work before adding more as they are a bit costly at $150 for just 2 vents.  They have bug net and can open and close for winter / summer so it's quite nice and worth it even if I'm not mining in the garage.

https://windeevent.com/installation/

Next step is to get price quote to see how much it will cost for me to upgrade my home circuit panel from 125AMP to 300-400AMP so I can power the Garage with more S7s.

P.S Thanks VirosaGITS on the Tip for connecting the S7 to EVGA G2 1300 PSU.  Box is running like a Champ on 110V right now until the 220V circuit is ready.

Good luck with what you have going at the moment.

As for the power upgrade later:  Just be sure to time it properly.  You would hate to upgrade power and have no ability to add more rigs because of being trapped by the difficulty if BTC remained the same price.  Timing is everything...  I waited a little over a year before I was able to do what I'm doing now.  Patience is a virtue.  If you can find other investors to join in your venture, try to get them to come on board.  As for me, I'm going it alone.  I'm not hosting anyone's gear but my own.  I only have room for my own.
1277  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: December 20, 2015, 04:56:26 AM
This avalon ..S7 now not profitable... you see difficulty is very high now .... and continue to be more and more high .... I think three month later can't pay avalon electricity ....

Yesminer they are scam .... ok
What about minerslab ? Also scam ?

That may be the case for you with your electricity costs.  So, you may want to say, "I" may not be able to pay electricity costs to cover the costs of mining -OR- "This avalon ...S7 now not profitable for ME."

Judging from your local time, looks like you live somewhere in Europe possibly.  So, I imagine your power cost is much higher than many who live in the US.
1278  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: December 20, 2015, 04:50:29 AM
To everyone running bitmain 1600 psu, bladecenter, etc.....what are you using for surge protection??? I do not have prior experience with these types of psu but switching over and wondering how to do it correctly.

If you plan on adding more rigs in the future, a PDU is not a bad choice with surge protection built in.  This will enable you to add more PSU's and rigs as well [Depending on your breaker, the voltage/amperage of the PDU, etc...

Some have their PDU plugged into a surge protector.  And then some have a PDU plugged into a surge protector that's plugged into another surge protector.  Not many, but a few do this.  As for what surge protectors they are using in front of their PDU's, I'm not sure.  Maybe someone will chime in after a while.
1279  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5 PH] Kano CKPool (kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: December 20, 2015, 04:33:37 AM
Thank goodness for our old large miners.  Thanks again guys...  But see they are about half what they usually are.

Maybe they are getting frustrated with the last 3 work change stale block and no other results as well.   Guess no one wants to talk about the elephant in the room.  That this seems fishy...

I know one [If not two of them] use CK/Kano Pool to test HW.  Hence, the rise and fall in their hash rate.  Some also rent all or part of their hash for a little while and then bring it back once the rental period is over.
1280  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: antminer s6 4500gh/s 1000watts on: December 20, 2015, 04:10:56 AM
Bah, the 1.2mW they listed was their consumption, not some rated number based on some regulation i havent heard of. But it does not really matter, as the math is for 1 mW consumed, if a 30mW only use 80% of 30mW then its going to use 24mW.

Then i'm not sure what you're going to be doing with the 3% you're adding, fans, maybe? There's no way a facility is going to be using 240kW of fans, but what if they dont need fans in the first place?

Anyways, the math for the SP50 was already done in the post you replied to, its about twice with S7, which sum up to 70-80PH/s. Albeit perhaps lower than actual 70PH/s if you start factoring in additional electric consumption overall. I can't say my numbers were conservative at all.

If you do simple quick dirty math of 10000 (kW) / 16(kW) you got how many SP50 you fit per mW. Then you multiply that by 110TH/s bam about 70PH/s.

Therefore a mine consuming 10mW would get close to 50% of the new total hashrate. Kinda crazy.

I totally agree with you about not using 240kW of exhaust fans.  IF they are located in a warmer climate, they would use AC for cooling.  IF they are in Iceland, Sweden, etc... they would not need it for AC.  The etc. was mainly for AC but would also include exhaust fans, lighting, etc...  It would probably be more like 100kW for AC and exhaust fans but it depends on the size of the facility.

BY THE WAY, BTCS has 3MW total at their facility in North Carolina with racks prepared for SP50's once they are rolled off the assembly line:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgHuyItPUfg

If a mining facility had 10MW available for mining [Typically reduced to 80 [IF not 75%] and had gear with similar efficiency and hash rates as that of the SP50, we would come up with the following figure [I will use 100kW for AC, fans, lighting, etc.:

80% of 10MW is 8MW minus 100kW for peripherals = 7,900,000 watts.

7,900,000 watts divided by 16,570 watts each = 476 SP50's

476 SP50's at 110 TH/s each = 53,360 TH/s OR 53.360 PH/s.  The present network hash rate [According to bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty] is 666 PH/s.

Most every data center [Like BTCS] that tells you, for instance, they have a 3MW facility.  That's what they actually have, not what is available for mining.  Most any data center will tell you they are limited to 75 - 80 percent of their available power.  If their facility had 10MW available for mining, they would tell you.  If they just say their facility is 10MW, I would suspect they can only do 70 to 80 percent of that.  I could be wrong on this but BTCS, for instance, does not say specifically if their "facility" has 3MW available for mining or is it just their facility has 3MW service; of which, only 75 to 80 percent of it can be used within NEC guidelines without Main Service Breakers UL listed at 100% usage.
