1261  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Extra unknown address in my Electrum transaction on: November 26, 2017, 11:47:50 PM
you have just two transactions in your wallet? the one on the 5th is a receiving transaction and you have made just one spend transaction paying trusted coin 0.005 for 100 transactions in the process . how did you manage to pay trusted coin for the other 300 transactions then?
Don't forget, you're only looking at one address...

No I'm not. You can see his history tab in the imgur link in post #3
1262  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't recreate my wallet with the seed phrase on: November 26, 2017, 06:04:16 PM
What version of electrum did you use to create this wallet? Because from version 2.0 to 2.6.4 electrum generated 13 word seeds. So if you used one of those versions then you are missing a word in your seed. Version 2.7.0, which is the first version after 2.6.4, was released in Oct 2016 and standardized seeds to 12 words: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/RELEASE-NOTES .

Pre 2.0 versions also used 12 word seeds. If you used a pre 2.0 version of electrum then the wordlist that applies to you is here: https://github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/master/lib/old_mnemonic.py and is different from the one linked to before by pooya87 which only applies to post 2.0 versions of electrum.

There's an IRC channel. #electrum on freenode.

Thanks guys. So taking note of the seed is all that is needed to restore the bitcoins in the wallet.

Could malware steal one's bitcoins on electrum wallet if they dont have your seed? My question is with electrum, does malware need seed and file or just the file?

To add to what HCP said above in post 6 you should know that watch-only wallets don't contain the seed so there is no risk of theft from them. But you can't spend from watch-only wallets either so you better have the seed recorded somewhere!
1267  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can not create a new wallet with my private key on: November 24, 2017, 05:54:07 PM
See this guide: https://bitcoinelectrum.com/importing-your-private-keys-into-electrum/ . Step 2 is where you are making a mistake. This change took place with version 3.0. Before that your way would have done the job.

1269  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Import vs sweep private key in Electrum on: November 24, 2017, 09:41:02 AM
why not just send bitcoin from wallet a to an address in wallet b?
1270  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Why does blockchain.info flag Electrum replace-by-fee as double spend? on: November 24, 2017, 09:10:08 AM
I thought the whole point of replace-by-fee was so that it wouldn't be classified as a double spend.

It actually marks a transaction as double spendable! All unconfirmed transactions are double spendable. This just explicitly marks them as non-final so that the recipient knows that another transaction spending the same outputs maybe crafted to replace this one. So don't accept this transaction until it has been confirmed.
1271  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 3.0 is out ! on: November 23, 2017, 07:33:56 AM
try doing an apt-get clean, an apt-get update, apt-get upgrade and finally install python3-pip.
1272  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Buying Bitcoin for Grandpa on: November 23, 2017, 07:18:19 AM
The best approach would be to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS on your grandpa's PC. I mean if it's infected you need to solve that problem first!  See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDNmyyrEZho

If you're going to use a live CD then don't use tails. Tails has an old version of electrum that will only cause you problems. Use debian or ubuntu live, boot from it and then install electrum as per the instructions on electrum.org/#download .

Alternatively create the wallet on your own system, note down the seed and only install a watch-only wallet on your grandpa's PC. You can create a watch-only wallet by restoring using your wallet's master public key which you can get via wallet menu > information. It isn't possible to spend from a watch only wallet so it's safe to use on a potentially compromised system.

1273  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: 0.07 BTC disappeared from electrum wallet. help me please on: November 23, 2017, 07:12:24 AM
If I create a watch only wallet with those two addresses in electrum 3.0.2 it displays fine:

1275  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does revealing one private key spoil the seed? on: November 22, 2017, 02:03:47 PM
I see now why it would be recommended to move your coins to a new wallet.  However, the instructions on the electrum site only said to move to a completely new wallet if you planned to enter the seed into something untrustworthy like Electron Cash wallet.

Thing is sometimes people reuse addresses even if they shouldn't be doing it. So having potentially compromised addresses in a wallet is reason enough for me to create a new wallet IMO. Why risk it?

Quote
I see your point that it is only a vulnerability if the master public key is also revealed, but Electrum doesn't encrypt its watching wallets, so if you ever run a watching wallet on an internet-connected computer, there is a risk that the master public key could have been compromised at some point in time.  I don't think you have to actually display the public master key on your screen for it to be vulnerable to malware.

Well this is a whole different level of paranoia. I for one don't believe that having an unencrypted MPK on your file system somewhere means hackers have read that file and gotten their hands on my MPK. And if you're worried about things displayed on your screen then what about your seed? It was displayed on your screen when you created your wallet. I suppose someone could deploy a TEMPEST like system to get to you!
1276  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How can I generate a new address? on: November 22, 2017, 01:49:01 PM
The correct way to get new addresses is via the receive tab. Learn how to use it:

https://bitcoinelectrum.com/how-to-use-the-electrum-receive-tab/

And learn why it's important not to reuse addresses:

1277  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does revealing one private key spoil the seed? on: November 22, 2017, 01:43:06 PM
Before trying to claim alt-coins you're supposed to move your coins to a new electrum wallet not just a different address in the same wallet. You can create a new wallet via file > new/restore.

The exposure of an address' private key by itself does not compromise your wallet. An attacker would also need the master public key of your wallet. That doesn't get exposed unless you actually expose it yourself. You can view the master public key via wallet > information. One use case for it is to create watch-only wallets.
1278  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 2.9.3 btc stolen on: November 21, 2017, 06:14:08 AM
Bitcoin transactions are irreversible so you can't get back your bitcoins. You say it's an offline wallet. Does that mean that the computer on which you installed electrum never went online? Do you have an online watch-only wallet?

I did a standard new wallet installation. I dont know if means off or watch only wallet. I did already transactions in the past. I got seed and private key. I guess i did something unsafe, anayway i thought to be safe  with seed authetication e private key. What should i do to prevent another robbery next time? Use a different version? Setup?

You're the one who said offline wallet. I asked because that word offline means something. If you don't know what it means then don't use it because you only confuse things.

What is the address of the website you downloaded electrum from?

1280  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Client feature request, no private keys in server logs. on: November 20, 2017, 12:47:16 PM
Are you saying users are querying your server manually using the electrum console? If that is the case then they are advanced users and should be left to their own devices. Otherwise electrum doesn't send private keys to servers during normal operation. It wouldn't be a secure client if it did that.

One other thing. Private keys starting with 5 are for uncompressed addresses. Electrum stopped creating those with version 2.0. Make of that what you will.
