1261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin Addresses Need to Go on: July 11, 2014, 01:18:58 AM
If you're out an about and someone asks you for your address it's not like you could just tell them it off the top of your head. [...]
I don't know my bank account number by heart, so it's the same thing. But if I really wanted to receive money, I would just open my phone wallet and generate a new address.

Also, as others have already said, using the same address all the time is not advised.
1262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have officially made it into the 100 Bitcoin club on: July 10, 2014, 01:47:46 PM
Your final balance doesn't look too grand though lol. And you could've just sent 1 bitcoin backwards and forwards to get that amount transacted  Cheesy.
How much would have been lost due to transaction fees?
1263  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why use bitcoins when my dollars are working just fine for me? on: July 09, 2014, 02:45:45 PM
Thats why i said bitcoin solves fuck nothing when it comes to the real problen (inequality). If you get there first you get all the stuff, same with BTC.
The way you state it, it's a problem entirely unrelated to the one OP is trying to solve, so your comments on this are kind of irrelevant.
1264  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Religion on: July 05, 2014, 05:15:28 PM
If the soul is not proven to exist using the scientific method, then I have no reasons to believe it exists. (And no, religion doctrines don't follow the scientific method)
1265  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Future of 3D Printing, The Creation of LIFE on: July 05, 2014, 04:19:41 PM
And Bitcoin is used to buy 3D printing designs
Bitcoin is used to buy many things. If the articles don't mention any relationship between Bitcoin and genetics, or Bitcoin and 3D printers, then it's definitely off-topic.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't see we're actually in the Off-Topic section.
1266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MAYBE WE DON'T NEED FIAT ANYMORE on: July 04, 2014, 11:02:41 PM
The problem I see is that you can't guarantee that people will honor this agreement. You may start at first: 1 Euro = 1 Coin, but as time passes, people will start selling them cheaper of more expensive, because that's how the free market works.

On the other hand, if you actually try to enforce the value, then you no longer hold the original idea of Bitcoin, and most people won't continue using it.

1268  Other / MultiBit / Re: What are these samll transactions on my wallet? on: July 02, 2014, 03:21:35 PM
Hello,
I hearth from somewhere that if i update my multibit i will lost all my coins on the previous version. Is that true?
BR
This is false. As long as you keep your mulitibit.wallet file, you won't lose any money.

Where did you read such a claim?
1269  Other / MultiBit / Re: Blockchain.info backup import functionality removed on: July 01, 2014, 06:30:06 PM
You can use the previous version (0.5.17) to import the keys.
This version will import compressed keys wrongly, the blockchain.info import function is broken!
I didn't know this. Sorry.
1270  Other / MultiBit / Re: Blockchain.info backup import functionality removed on: June 29, 2014, 01:48:43 AM
You can use the previous version (0.5.17) to import the keys. Just be extremely careful about having backups before attempting to import them.

As far as I know, Jim decided to remove the import feature because it caused more troubles, and that people who really knew what they're doing should use Armory or other advanced software.
1271  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A fiat-less crypto? Could it work? on: June 27, 2014, 01:13:03 AM
I don't see how. If I wanted to get some of such currency, I would first have to buy gold with fiat and then the coins with gold.
1272  Other / New forum software / Re: Idea: Random user avatares by default on: June 26, 2014, 08:29:13 PM
Why? What's the purpose of this? If a user doesn't or choses not to upload an avatar I don't think we should be forcing them to have one.
It's easier to identify them in a sigle thread. At least for me, seeing colored patterns is faster than reading the usernames.

To combat this, this document proposes a controversial change: making Bitcoin's monetary supply finite.
Clearly I'm missing something, because it was my understanding that Bitcoin's supply was finite and deflationary by design.
No your missing anything.  The BIP is written tongue in cheek.
Now I'm more confused. maok's post seem to take that BIP seriously...

Disqus include downvotes, but as far as I understand, the total sum of downvotes is not shown to users. It's just used for sorting comments by relevance and such (which I don't think would be a great idea in a forum).
1276  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: ibackbitcoin.org on: June 25, 2014, 02:50:15 PM
This sounds like an interesting idea. I personally would like the price to remain stable at least for a year (be it high or low). However, I also wouldn't commit to a price for the whole 21M bitcoins.

What should be done is a few options for BTC amount (e.g. 1, 100, and 1000). I feel that commiting to a bigger value is unrealistic.
1277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Theoretical Gold-alike digital network[Proposal] on: June 25, 2014, 02:30:31 PM
Your poll options are very confusing and misleading. They seem to imply that either your proposal will work and “save” Bitcoin, or that it will fail and an altcoin will take its place.

For it to be a fair poll, you should just include the options “I agree” / “I disagree”.
1278  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Introducing Hive Web, a mobile web wallet supporting Litecoin and Bitcoin! on: June 24, 2014, 02:21:30 PM
We have not tested it at all on those devices. Can you file a bug here with screenshots?
OK, I just did Smiley

1279  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Introducing Hive Web, a mobile web wallet supporting Litecoin and Bitcoin! on: June 24, 2014, 01:50:43 PM
Trying it on Windows Phone. It just shows a blue screen with a hexagon. I can't tell if it's loading or not :/
1280  Other / MultiBit / Re: We should stop recommending Multibit on bitcoin.org, NOW on: June 20, 2014, 02:21:13 AM
A mobile device could potentially be stolen/lost, even if the point of the theft of the device is not to steal the bitcoin they would be significant risk.

Online wallets carry their own risk that is separate from using MultiBit in this manner. More risk? I am not sure
Everything in life has a risk. Even if someone secures their bitcoins in the most effective way, they can't rule out that they might have an accident tomorrow, leaving the coins unspendable if only they know about how to retrieve them (passwords, cold storage location, etc).

The problem with online wallets is when they actually know your private keys. They could one day just decide to spend them without your consent. As far as I know, Blockchain.info encrypts the keys so that they are only known in the browser at the time the user logs in, and never by Blockchain.info themselves.
