12601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which UK banks process bitcoin transactions? on: February 13, 2017, 05:14:57 PM
I didn't hear any news that any bank works with bitcoin already. Can you post here the link about this information? It sounds very interesting.

They don't. We're talking about deposits and withdrawals to exchanges. Barclays were talking about working with Bitcoin via Safello for charitable donations a while back but that seems to have gone quiet.
12602  Other / Archival / Re: Do you know legit websites to buy cigarettes online? on: February 13, 2017, 05:07:32 PM
I live in UK and I bought from albotoo.com. They sell with paypal and they seem legit! First I tested with 5 Marlboro packs and and after receiving  I bought 10 others. Don't know if you can order from US.

Once every 3-4 months I just go outside the EU and stock up. You get a wee holiday and save money at the same time. My last trip was to Gibraltar where tobacco is £3.50 a pop vs £19. I go to Guernsey or Jersey quite often too. The cost to get there is the same at 3 packs of normal cigs. Far more fun than risking inception by The Man.
12603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you still use Bitcoin if price would be stable for years? on: February 13, 2017, 04:58:45 PM
If there was more international acceptance then I'd continue using it while abroad, but only if I could obtain it without a premium which is impossible in the UK.

As for day to day spending, nope. The fees aren't going to get any cheaper and it's already too much for more modest transactions. I can use a debit card that costs nothing. I ain't a charity. If Bitcoin can't fulfil a need in my life then I'd get rid.

A rising price inspires spending. Complete stagnation would not.
12604  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which UK banks process bitcoin transactions? on: February 13, 2017, 04:33:32 PM
I've received from Natwest in the past without a squeak but that was only once. If you do it all the time then you're likely to get some trouble somewhere along the line.

Fidor is the one but they don't sound like they're full service yet. I don't think they're linked into faster payments and there aren't any individual account numbers or something equally strange. I'm sure they'll have the confirmed answers. I get the feeling if Fidor becomes too Bitcoin friendly they'll be shut out of playing with everyone else.
12605  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay Visa - Why I Love It on: February 13, 2017, 01:42:37 AM
There's a lot more hassle for a Bitcoin debit card provider than one linked to a conventional bank account. I assume every time you use it you're triggering a Bitcoin sale.

You don't convert on the fly when making purchases... you deposit BTC, which is then converted. So it is no different than sending to an exchange to sell, only you cut out the middleman (as with an exchange you're doing wallet -> exchange -> transfer -> spend, rather than just sending to card -> spend.

I didn't realise that. That's kind of sucky as sometimes you want to spunk your enormous gains. Still, I suppose it at least locks things in at a certain price.
12606  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 12, 2017, 12:26:17 PM
Keep in mind all these guys are mostly in for making money.

Of course they are but you have to respect their commitment. They've been in it since 2012 and lord knows how much money they've burnt in pursuit of a singular vision shared by virtually no one when they got going. The vast majority of the brats here haven't been in it that long and don't even have the balls to put their lunch money in.

12607  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will surge to $25,000+ on: February 12, 2017, 02:54:07 AM
I can only see this price in dreams, on real life (on next 3-5 years) i saw it very difficult. Or dollar had a crash on its value, or Bitcoin is used by central banks as store of value (like now they have gold). I don't see it impossible (on next 2 or 3 halvings).
Yeah, price of bitcoin is increasing gradually. But the mentioned $25000 is not gonna happen in reality. The price surge in the past took place in accordance to the China's bitcoin market. This has changed a lot due to the recent inspection took place. Now the growth is the true growth of bitcoin's technology not a fake one to attract corporates or other high profiting sectors.

In late 2013 'China' probably consisted of a few tens or a couple of hundred thousand people at the absolute max. Adoption in any significant way hasn't happened. People still get excited when someone places a $500,000 order on an exchange. In adult finance terms that's laughable.

If BTC ever did manage to get beyond its wee niche then tens of thousands are eminently achievable.
12608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: February 11, 2017, 09:09:38 PM
You can buy at the Polo XEM 3 million, and include supernode in the end you will receive 6 XEM for 1 block, given the potential growth of this coin, it is doubly advantageous for node profit, and profit from the fact that the price of the token increases

Did you attempt to read the posted sentence? It included not buying anything and also not buying anything on Poloniex. And someone who wants something for nothing probably doesn't have $20,000 to pay upfront to earn 6 XEM.
12609  Economy / Speculation / Re: When would you expect new announcement from PBOC on: February 11, 2017, 06:01:06 PM
Mining's the really interesting one. As far as I can tell they've made little or no noise about miners. I assume they're all nice and easy to track down as well.

It's conceivable that BTC might become fully custodial in China for non miners who go anywhere near an exchange. It's not as if you can spend it anywhere anyway. In 2013/14 they stipulated that it was only for playing markets with. That being the case they may as well not let them leave the market at all.

12610  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sustainability of cryptocurrencies? on: February 11, 2017, 02:28:50 PM
Has anyone done any serious studies on electricity consumption due to cryptocurrency related activities like mining? Possibly with comparison between different currencies and feasibility of maintaining such consumption? Is there an argument to be made for or against them in the context of global warming?

Bitcoin was started as an alternative to present monetary system. Now compare the resources used in Bitcoin development (mining and other expenses) to Monetary System (banks, ATM, running costs). Bitcoin hardly utilize 1-2% as what utilized by present banking and monetary structure. And what about presence of 2 AC in 10x6 feet ATM room? Do these ACs contribute nothing to Green House gases?
Re-think! Shocked

Bitcoin might use 1 or 2 per cent of banking''s consumption,  though it's probably more. It probably has 0.1 per cent or less of banking''s users. It sounds like a lot of mining uses hydro among other things but it's still shockingly profligate. If I were designingit from scratch that's definitely something I'd have remained more conscious of.
12611  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will surge to $25,000+ on: February 11, 2017, 02:24:26 PM

you know that Mt Gox was the reason for that rise too, right?
price wouldn't have gone to $1200 overnight if it weren't for Mt Gox fake pump and the bubble of 2013.

the only difference in case Mt Gox never existed would have been an steadier rise with a more logical rate and then a higher price today. probably around $2000.

Why don't people ever mention China any more in relation to the 2013 pump? Is it less fun somehow than a neat conspiracy theory? Bitstamp overtook gox during that pump too.

China was probably equally goxy too but they kept it up for longer and didn't fail at it.

I don't think anywhere abroad is going to beat Saturday Night Live. They're really on a roll with Trump. Melissa Mccarthy as that Spicer bloke killed it the other day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWuc18xISwI

Apparently Donny didn't like it because he was portrayed by a woman which made him look weak. Nice priorities there.
12613  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Brexit may soon become a reality? on: February 11, 2017, 03:28:07 AM
Lets all hope the brexit creates chaos and uncertainty that brings more people to Bitcoin.

Why not wish prosperity and joy instead? People will put their money towards keeping their children alive rather than a speculative asset that lives on the internet if there is chaos and uncertainty.
12614  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay Visa - Why I Love It on: February 11, 2017, 03:12:32 AM
Everything is fine, only one thing which I don't like is 2$ fee on withdraw, it's way too much (On my card fee is 0.2$). Also it seems card is mostly for active members because dormancy fee is 25$ in month after 90 inactive days and if you have this card you mustn't be inactive Cheesy
Thanks for share and is this possible to own this card in another country? Because I also saw here that we can load money with western union.

There's a lot more hassle for a Bitcoin debit card provider than one linked to a conventional bank account. I assume every time you use it you're triggering a Bitcoin sale.

There seem to be a lot of providers. Seems like a wonderful way to do a long con/ exit scam so I'd only consider somewhere of the calibre of Bitpay or Coinbase. I assume they're still US only which is no use to me.

Well, if it were me my first tweet would be APPROVED in very large and red letters and then I'd start tweeting away the various details, but I'm not a Winklevoss.
12616  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2017, 11:41:20 PM
Odd. Why wouldn't they hold off completely until they were totally sure? It just makes them look a little daffy if it turns out to be a damp squib,
12617  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Picks Anti-Encryption Attorney General on: February 10, 2017, 11:01:17 PM
If Sessions push too hard with his anti-encryption policies, then Trump will replace him.

Um, why? All someone has to do is whisper 'terrorism' in Donald's ear and he'll be out on the white house personally executing every single PGP developer they can get their hands on.

Perfectly said. Trump is business minded, and he is shrewd. He knows that the Bitcoin sector will grow to a super-giant with a market cap of $100-$200 billion in the near future. If a part of that business stays in the United States, then tens of thousands of jobs can be created, in addition to billions of USD in tax revenues every year.

$100-200 billion is fuck all, especially if its existence endorses a lack of government control.
12618  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2017, 09:30:52 PM
He was "above" all of you. Did you not know that? Dear dear

Ah. Fair enough. I left school at 16 so I'm not worthy to receive his edicts from on high. I'd still give him a nipple cripple if I ever met him for using up my valuable bandwidth with his endless dribbling.
12619  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 10, 2017, 09:19:41 PM
His posts pissed me off after a while. An educated (but incorrect) troll is not a good troll.

It wasn't his point of view that annoyed me, it was his complete and utter lack of interest in acknowledging any other point of view. When someone's that entrenched they should be given their own forum so they can talk to themselves as no one else has anything to offer them.
12620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should governments allow people to pay their taxes in Bitcoin BTC? on: February 10, 2017, 08:49:14 PM
You can do this already in a couple of Swiss cantons can't you? It sounds like a dismal idea to me but if people want to do it then go for it. I can't imagine they'd be happy recruiting a third party to handle the conversion so it's not going to happen.

But why pay tax in something that should carry on rising. Far better to pay it with something becoming increasingly worthless.
