Which merits actually will be counted as airdropped merits?
Airdropped Merit is what all users with a rank above Jr. Member received when theymos introduced the Merit system, in order to keep their current rank. I received 1000 at that time, LoyceMobile got none.

of course I have a letter ...
Are you willing to share it with me? Note: this does compromise your privacy and you should probably mix your coins again if you receive them. Any PMs sent clear text through the forum can be read by Cloudflare.
If it checks out, I'll create a topic in Scam Accusations for you (I've done this before).
13163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is this possible, Satoshi's wallet.dat? on: November 18, 2020, 12:16:58 PM
im curious to know how some user got his wallet.dat file.
He didn't. The only way to prove ownership of an address is by signing a message or transaction. Those fake wallet.dat files that scammers sell to gullible people don't have the private key. It's fake.
Don't waste your time or CPU cycles on it.

Hi, I submitted a transaction of $7000
Did you download and verify the Letter of Guarantee? That's the only way to prove a scam.
13165  Other / Meta / Re: Is Merit distribution declining? on: November 17, 2020, 09:14:38 PM
Is there some other website I can check for correct merit stats?
When in doubt, get the raw data. Updated up to last Friday's weekly Merit data dump.

For a quick weekly impression, see LoyceV's Merit data analysis (full data since Jan. 24, 2018; not just 120 days) and search for "Total:"

Definitely can't speak on behalf of everyone here, but since Covid struck I've been up to my eye balls in work related stuff. I'm assuming many others have also experienced this
I've been short on time ever since this year started. 2020 really has it's ways.

Good point. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's long time since theymos updated list of merit sources last time. I think he haven't done it in 2020 yet.
Correct. If some sources stop sending sMerit, and other sources don't get their source increased, it's inevitable for the total Merit distribution to go down. My source is piling up again too, I've sent less than my source amount in the past 30 days. But there's still more sMerit being sent than right before theymos' last source update.

If you don't use Tor or VPN your IP is visible to BPIP if you visit the site but we have no idea that it's your IP.
For the paranoid who don't want to use a VPN all the time: would it be possible to setup a proxy server for this extension? Say for someone who doesn't trust BPIP with his IP information but trusts someone else to run the proxy?

Quote
Unfortunately that would require a free unlimited image hosting service that can be used via some sort of API. I looked into doing this with imgur a while ago and it wasn't feasible.
How "unlimited" does this really have to be? I've never counted images in daily posts, and I don't even know if Bitcointalk's image proxy caches them or not. But I've said before it would be great to setup an (community) image hosting service dedicated to Bitcointalk. Any external service will at some point disappear, while the forum should last as long as Bitcoin is around.
13167  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: November 17, 2020, 05:04:46 PM
Again, an unrealistic scenario.Smiley

I (like most users) don't get paid$ 10 many times over the course of a month. I usually only pay$10. After 10 payments, my channel  will be reset to zero. And you will need to either re-create the channel, or replenish it using a third-party service. And this is the fee for an additional  on-chain transaction.
I'll try a more realistic one: how about you get $1000 salary once a month, and pay your normal bills with it? Bills will go from high amounts like your rent to daily small amounts for coffee. Then you indeed can't use the same funds several times. It becomes slightly better if you receive your salary every week. You probably don't want an open channel with your employer (I wouldn't want them to know my remaining balance), so you'll still need a third party.

Unfortunately, you are assuming the most fantastic scenario. Smiley
What can I say, I'm an optimist Smiley

Quote
Let's consider the most efficient option: one LN node and many end users connected to this node.  The node must invest the same amount as all users do. If the node wants to earn 3% of the profit for the year, then all users will have to pay this 3%. That is, on average, each user will pay 3% per year of the amount invested in the channel. (The average route length will be 2).
3% sounds bad if you spend $1000 per month. But if you put $100 in a channel, and spend and receive $10 at a time, but do that 50 times per month, then $3 in fees doesn't sound bad at all! I spent more on my last on-chain Bitcoin transaction (I made a mistake on the fees, my fault).

Quote
"Super-cheap transactions in LN" and "LN-nodes that make a profit" are mutually exclusive things. Smiley
You're probably right here. But I don't really mind, it's not as if Bitcoin nodes are currently making a profit. Some things are just done to support the network, and if an exchange (or casino) runs a LN-node, earning money from transaction routing is only a side-income, and not their core business.

Quote
I must admit I don't have the time to read it in-depth now. But I like this picture:
Image loading...
The thing is: I'm okay with the scenario on the left, if that means I can make many small cheap payments using Bitcoin. I'd prefer a fully decentralized system, but I get that won't happen.
13170  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: November 16, 2020, 07:53:11 PM
I honestly don't understand why that comparison.
My point is: you don't need a large balance on a node to be able to make many transactions, as long as you have transactions in both directions.

Quote
Plus isn't the 24 hour volume from your link, trading volume, not transaction volume?
Yes. It may not have been the best example indeed. Here's another one: I think a node with 1 BTC in LN can process 10 BTC per day in transactions (given the right circumstances). At 0.25% fee that would earn 25 mBTC fees per day. Seeing this numbers makes me think it's not very likely to happen any time soon though, 0.25% is very high. For my last transaction I paid about 0.01% in fee. And that fee is for all nodes involved in the route.
If you can earn 1 mBTC by transfaring 10 BTC per day though a node that holds 1 BTC, it's still a pretty good profit.

I know it's probably too high, but I couldn't resist anyway.

Week 20 Trusted by seven UID's (on top of the three who have trusted you for the past twenty weeks)
Instead of collusion, I think this was caused by a thread on a local board. Awareness lead to an increase in Trust relations, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
13173  Other / Meta / Re: DefaultTrust changes on: November 16, 2020, 11:12:15 AM
~ in my TrustList because of I have a safe and trustworthy trading history with these members. (Buy, sell something and Mining hardware, PowerSupply and Bitcoin)

As much as I know, we add the members we trust to this list. Isn't It ?
No. I think you're confusing Trust feedback with Trust lists. That happens a lot, I even made a topic about it: LoyceV's Beginners guide to correct use of the Trust system:
Don't confuse your Trust list with feedback
Trust feedback: leave feedback to people you trust or don't trust. Or leave neutral comments.
Trust list: a list of people who's judgement on others you trust (username) or don't trust (~username).

The topic is received a lot of support from community, including 15 translations:

Frankly I can't understand why someone added me to their Distrust list. Because I don't know those people, I don't have a any conversation with this members, and I didn't do a  trade with them.
The (valid) reason could be they think you leave bad feedback, or include bad users on your Trust list.
The (invalid) reason could be they don't like your politicial opinion or whatever.

I excluded you because I think you put the wrong people on DT2, as explained earlier. If you correct your Trust inclusions, I'll re-evaluate this Smiley

13174  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: November 16, 2020, 09:29:22 AM
But payment channels, and their capacity, are actually limited by how much Bitcoin the people who run nodes hold, are limited by how much capital they want to open payment channels with, are limited with their technical-skills in how to maintain the node/balance channels.

That limitation, and increase in demand for LN transactions = higher fees?
Let's compare it to Tether for a moment: it's 24h volume is more than twice it's market cap. Each coin is "used" several times per day. The same will happen for LN-nodes, and the same happens with actual dollar coins and banknotes too.

So you thought it's a good idea to create the same topic again after it was deleted?

I'm pretty sure selling Skrill accounts isn't allowed:

Can we try 0.0025 ??  I'm trying to shift funds out of a Blue wallet of my own.  Grin
We can, but it'll end up on my BlueWallet so it uses the same nodes to send it out again.
I don't really want to use a Lightning casino for this (I might get tempted).
13179  Economy / Lending / Re: Liberated: LoyceV's Legendary Little Lightning Loans on: November 15, 2020, 01:21:03 PM
Would you be prepared to post a request for 0.0075 via the LN and once it's been paid I then post a LN request for that 0.0075 (you can nominate a fee either included, or paid separately).  I have ~ 0.0083 in a Blue LN wallet and want to send 0.0075 to an Eclair LN wallet with 0.025 inbound capacity.
The only wallet I have that has enough incoming capacity is BlueWallet. There's not really a point in doing that, it'll just be an "internal" BlueWallet transaction that costs 0.3% in fees.
13180  Other / Meta / Re: I created the Bitcointalk Stats Live Counter on: November 15, 2020, 01:02:21 PM
Speaking of issues, I would find it nice to create a livecount for recent merit transactions. Recent merit stats can be found here, but the problem is that guests cannot see them, in which btctalk.live is based on. So I can't get those stats from there.
You'll need to scrape the data as a user. Or try Ninjastic.space - BitcoinTalk Post/Address archive + API, it currently doesn't have what you're looking for, but TryNinja might be able to add it.

On the other hand we have the LoyceV's database. The issue here is that these are enormous files that cannot be refreshed every 5 seconds.
It's also updated only once a week Wink
