1341  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bter.com Hacked - OFFICIAL on: February 15, 2015, 03:09:50 PM
Loosing 7K from "cold storage", at least 5 private keys was compromised.
When you trace back, these "cold" addys, they where clearly not cold at all, they had F***** 7K in their hot wallet!

A first year grad student in Information Security can do better than that.
At least bitstamp did not have all the freaking coins in their hot wallet.

(Excuse me for my language, but I get upset about people who do not do their job properly)

Sorry escrow not accept

It is not going to happen, unless you meet in person with the buyer.
Nobody will trust you with thousands of dollars.

When that is said, I wish you good luck with the sale.
It is a very nice item you have for sale.
1346  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: February 14, 2015, 09:33:14 AM
I currently don't know how much BTC I will need.

Once retired, then something will be rotten, so don't do it.

Perhaps get 21 BTC,at least?

21 is such a nice number, then will you own 1/1000000 of the bitcoin economy.

1348  Other / Meta / Re: NEED HELP on: February 12, 2015, 11:05:16 PM
Not more than 14 with just posting?

Maximum activity you can get in a 14 days period is 14.
No matter how much you post.
1349  Other / Meta / Re: NEED HELP on: February 12, 2015, 11:04:21 PM
Can you please tell me that as the account was made last year but was Brand New I.e 0 posts, Will I be able to increase my activity just by posting?

The time of the account creation has not effect on your activity or "rank".
If you old account have 0 activity, then will you gain nothing by using that one, compared to using the one you are using now.
At least the one you have now will already have more activity.

1351  Other / Meta / Re: NEED HELP on: February 12, 2015, 10:58:12 PM
If you have no way to prove that it is your account, then forget about it.
Make a new account. If the account was never used, then is there not really any loss.
Hardly worth spending time pursuing.
1352  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Newbie question - offline wallet? on: February 12, 2015, 10:53:30 PM
It all comes down to how you protect your private keys.
The private key gives you the ability to make bitcoin transactions, of what ever funds that is associated to your public key.

Anybody who has access to your private key has access to your bitcoin.

The only way you can be certain that you and only you have access to your bitcoin is to never expose the key to the internet.

I prefer to use paper-wallets, which is a type of offline wallet.
A paper-wallet is basically a piece of paper which has your private key written on.
If the paper-wallet is created completely offline and never exposed to the internet, then is not possible to steal your funds (unless someone break into your home and steal the physical piece of paper).

Note, you can always transfer funds to your paper-wallet, by sending funds to the associated public key. But you need the actual piece of paper to redeem the funds.

1354  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2014 Casascius St. Petersburg Bowl Bitcoin Coin on: February 12, 2015, 07:07:18 PM
Ok, got my reply from ANACS, and they would be happy to grade these coins.  There is a 5 coin minimum and I have 3 coins I want graded....so here is my announcement to get your coins graded!

Join my ANACS coin grading run.  The costs are very simple and are broken out below... (U.S. Only)

Cost to ship to me -          Whatever it costs you
Cost to ship back to you                         -  $4
Cost to grade coin                                  -  $14 per coin
Cost to Ship to Grading Service               - $5 per coin
Cost to Ship from Grading Service to Me  - $5 per coin
My fee for time/plastic holder                  - $3 per coin

Total                                                      - $4 + $27 per coin

These seem to be the costs that it will take per coin to get graded, if you are interested please let me know and we can work on getting your coins to me so I can start the run.  Please let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks,

DebitMe

I was wondering...  how would you distinguish who owns each coin? If you collect a bunch of coins from different user, how would you distribute them fair, if they come back with different grades.
The coins itself do not have any serial number.

1356  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC again reach 400$+ on: February 12, 2015, 03:33:22 PM
I dont think it is a good time to sell right now, if your patient you can wait one more year until the blocks get halved. I'd imagine the price rise up afterwards.

I watched the halving of various altcoins, for those cases I have studied, the value always increase 2-10 days before the halving, and then crashes quite hard at the time of the halving.
Not saying that the same will happen for bitcoin, just don't underestimate the power of the expectation.
1357  Economy / Speculation / Re: How many bitcoins do I need to retire in 20 years? on: February 12, 2015, 03:29:23 PM
If it's around the $100 level by the time someone retires it'll be failed and abandoned and more likely to be zero.

Let's hope nobody retire then Cheesy (trololo)
