A thought I had lately:

As you know a coin get's value when it is required for something you want to buy.

I wanted to build a small Software Tool and then thought about possible payments... you know: shareware.

Then I thought wait a moment.. wouldn't that just help any coin to get value?

Say I can buy that little peace of software cheap but only with darkcoin...and I could pay anonymous and safe and mabye even triggered from within the software.. and that returned software key only works for the one that payed... (we are in crypto)

I have no clue if such is possible. But hey here you have the idea.  Grin

See here for Cofresi's excellent thoughts along those lines: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/instantx-micropayments-unlocking-the-potential-for-real-push-mechanism-in-cryptocurrencies.2642/  Smiley

Having a GUI in the wallet is a fab idea.  You need to write all your ideas down mate, the CroutonChronicles  Cheesy

I prefer not to incriminate myself any more than necessary.  Lips sealed

However, my quest to make MN administration even easier continues:

Any security issues to adding an additional layer like that for user friendliness?

Not really, the Felch! button just grabs info from darkcoind running on your machine, the block explorer, and bitfinex for the exchange rate, and sticks it all in one box. You just put all your Masternode addresses and IPs in a textfile which it reads from.

The Update! button just runs a bunch of commands for you so you don't have to type or copy/paste them in yourself. No passwords are stored anywhere but temporarily in RAM. You could just as easily have a bash script running on your Masternode, but my way is more colourful. Wink

I think miners are important, I've never said otherwise, but it makes no difference to miners who actually wish to support Darkcoin whether they are mining on a 3rd party pool or a MN pool, except that the MN pool is likely to be updated faster, and following the rules - and those rules add long term value to the coin. Sure, it would piss off the instadumpers who wouldn't be able to cheat the system, but, well, sod them.

As to how exactly it could be implemented, I have no idea off the top of my head, but I'm sure Evan and team could do it if they wanted to.

I agree with what you are trying to achieve.

The biggest hurdle will be the Mum and Dad casual miners and the n00bs, at first, a concept like P2Pool or P2Masternode would scare a lot of people off.  When you  compare that to a pool where people can read instructions, see a hashrate, have a nice friendly gui (minep.it) and sometime talk to other miners.

If we could replicate all the user friendliness and create a similar entry point, but have the masternodes running the show in the background, then that might work.

Well, arguably it's easier to use p2pool than a centralised pool, all you need is your DRK address and an IP to point your miner at, no registration, no username etc. And p2pool web interfaces can and do have all the same nice GUI stuff as centralised pools.

I don't think it would be any harder for anyone, and MN pools (as p2pool nodes or otherwise) could even have a nice simple UI integrated into the wallet at some point down the line. Might get a bunch more people mining. Smiley

What we are seeing is an interesting experiment about human nature. When crypto was first invented most of the people who got involved with it were privacy conscious libertarian geeks who hated the monopoly of rich bankers. These geeks saw these bankers as greedy bastards who didn't give a shit about anything but their profit..

And then things moved faster..crypto started to gain popularity and greater adoption. Each of these new coins started to address a particular problem that the society was struggling with and some were just useless crap created to con people. But these previously liberty loving geeks who hated greedy bankers and their wars, and government bureaucracy and so on became completely different people now. Some of them were running centralized exchanges and gambling with ordinary people's money. Other started to setup pools caring only about profit and nothing else. Without knowing, they become just like the greedy bankers they once hated.

So i gave up asking the pools to update anymore. i think the solution should involve not begging any greedy pool anymore who cares about profit but nothing more. We can come up with a better way of getting things done so that the amazing ideas behind Darkcoin (privacy, freedoms from greedy bankers and tyranny etc) can continue to live.

Hey man, it isn't occupy wall street in here. Lots of profit earned in the free market is a truly wonderful thing.
Bankers making profit direct from tax payers? No free market there.

Mintpal shuting its doors with other peoples money isn't profit. While mintpal was up and running, noone gave a shit about them making profits.

And yet, mention increasing the reward split per block in favour of Masternodes, which provide a useful service, and ask miners to justify their current 80% cut when they have shown again and again that they are more a liability than anything else, and behold the frothing outrage of the self-righteous GPU-thrashing instadumpers...  Grin

Miners should be under direct MN control by making MNs the only pools you can mine at.

LoL!

Who are you calling a frothing self-righteous GPU-thrashing instadumper???

That's a brilliant idea by the way, how do we make P2Masternode?

Can i use onyx and just add testnet=1 to the .conf ?

Yes. And open port 19999 for testnet.

You are aware of the fact that we ALREADY have a solution for greedy pools and pool operators, right ?
It's called p2pool network. Decentralized, you can run your own node, you don't have to rely on pool operators as you mine directly to your wallet, and IT'S MORE PROFITABLE long term, just check the statistics.
And yes, MN's could run p2pool node too. It's just pure ignorance and laziness of miners that they mine on central pools.
In p2pool you can have any of the nodes as backup(s), so you don't lose any shares if one node goes down.

Believe me I'm well aware of p2pool and its advantages, I mine on it and encourage everyone to do the same. IMO p2pool should be mandatory, it's in everyone's best interests. Smiley

Trouble is, p2pool nodes have to update as well... having MNs operate as either regular pools or p2pool nodes and requiring miners to mine on them and nowhere else would solve the tardy/greedy pool problem as well as the need for enforcement of anything.

MN op doesn't update, MN op doesn't get paid.

Miners are supposedly all about 'supporting the network!' right? How about the pools update a bit sharper then, eh?

Evan is too lenient. 48hrs notice is more than adequate.

Actually support the network
or sod off and enjoy your wasted electricity and orphan blocks.  Grin

Despite the fud, Darkcoin would be welcome to join the Blocknet when it's ready.

When it actually exists, works, and is open source and proven to do something useful, you may return, begging, with a very large bribe for each of us.

Then we will laugh at you some more.

Anyone know the link for Bittrex on bitcoinwisdom ?  Tried a few combos but nothing worked

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitfinex/drkbtc

 Sorry, my bad... meant Bittrex!!

BTW... first time of Bitfinex, and for the life of me I cannot place an order... tough to get warp your head into it...

Bitcoinwisdom doesn't have bittrex data for DRK, just cryptsy, bitfinex, poloniex: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/

Bot's released with just basic initial programming, they haven't learned and adapted yet. Fine tuning will follow.

Good buys on Bitfinex.

Wow. No Cryptsy, no MintPal, someone willing to pay the price on Bitfinex to get in now at any cost. News? Or Evan's family?

yeah cool 8500 traded up to .0071

Are people starting to see how one or two dominant centralised bot-infested exchanges where thousands of fools leave their balances are not a good thing, and how not having such exchanges makes market manipulation much harder?

The botmasters can't bleed fiat out of your crypto if it's safe in your own wallets. Stop letting exchange bots play the market with your coins.

Lawsky: Bitcoin Developers and Miners Exempt from BitLicense

This is a great news. Who doesn't want the damn exchanges like Mintpal to be regulated? As long as ordinary users and miners are excempt from regulations, there is nothing to fear from New York Bit license . Soon communities will start rolling decentralized exchanges via the wallet (BTC-DRK-BTC etc) and that will solve the many of the privacy concerns as well. I have a feeling that this recent Lawynsky announcement is gonna push Bitcoin price up.

http://www.coindesk.com/lawsky-bitcoin-developers-miners-exempt-bitlicense/

Since you ask - I don't want the exchanges to be regulated - even in this moment of chaos at some exchanges.

I hold this opinion because regulation leads to trusting the regulators, and historically that always fails. Regulators are human and subject to moral issues such as political arm-twisting. In the present climate the regulators tend to be aloof, authoritarian, arrogant, arbitrary, furtive, and - we have no way of knowing what else. Power really does corrupt.

The exchange problem is real. Regulation has to take some other form to become the solution, imho - some trustless form, presumably p2p.

I agree, but p2p exchanges present some problems that nobody has fully solved yet. We need more rational thinkers to tackle the issue, feel free to weigh in: https://darkcointalk.org/threads/mint-gox.2676/page-3#post-25697   Smiley

Gotta love the jab at Darkcoin there.
"Don't tell Darkcoin... Trading across chains is more anonymous than any other coin."
I smell bullshit. If transactions are atomic, the transaction size can be correlated across chains. You just need a history of currency conversion rates.
Basically they would need to ask Kristov Atlas to audit their design.
One more thing. This looks like what it is: a booster feature for Blackcoin. Blackcoin was fully instamined at launch. There's no ongoing proof of work. Yawn.

+1.

Fancy presentation and no substance.

Let me know when:

1. It exists
2. It works

my old wallet dat file is 17.2 MB is that the problem its still lagging right now

Do this:

Code:
~/Downloads/darkcoin/src $ ./darkcoind listtransactions "*" 10000 | grep -c "txid"

That will tell you how many TX's you have. Mine is at 2641 total transactions.
Enflocculate your dust!

(Just move all the smaller lumps of DRK bit by bit (under 500 byte tx size) into a new address in-wallet, then send the final total lump to a new wallet.)
