S9 too loud?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCWhF8g8Rvw

You try it first and let me know... then I can quiet my 7 down...   :-)

I do not think the gravel is neccisary but, maybe it helps.

YES! We may actually give this a try when our room gets too hot and noisy. We have 17 machines and more coming. The room is only going to get noisier and warmer, so the mineral oil method we were thinking of employing......but also because of the neat factor.

We normally deal with automatic transmissions, so the plumbing and cooling of electro-hydraulic control modules is not TOO foreign as many late model transmissions have the TCM inside and submerged in oil.

If/when we get something built, I will be sure to add some pics  Grin

FYI, blokforge had 4 821's available in their feb batch (the expensive ones)
And march units available.

Bitmain still has T9+ in stock as well. $2008 USD

I Have no BCH, however. I would gladly get rid of these A6's and S7's for some T9's
Only thing besides the fact that they're more reliable than the S9 and ship within 10 days is that they're inefficient and have less chips than the old T9 (lower hashrate), making them a questionable buy even if you had enough BCH to purchase them. I'd hold off on buying miners for now.

I don't know too much about them other than what is advertised. Inefficient in what way, consistency or power wise?

I was going to wait and see what popped up on Ebay with the BTC price dropping and I'm sure plenty of folk panicking. I was wondering if either the S9's will be dropping in price with people trying to get out OR if the price goes up while the S7's continue to drop while people look for more efficient mining gear. It is interesting either way. That bullshit Tea company apparently canceled 1000 S9's too so we'll see what happens with those haha.

What exactly are 'invalids'?

Would this be duplicate work or work already submitted? How does that work?

As a new miner, my gripes are many; take it as constructive criticism.

There are a lot of repeated questions on here that could be easily addressed by an updated more concise website.

There is no way to know exactly where your ramp is, and with a ramp up taking over a full difficulty adj period, that is a lot of time to wait, coming from someone who already waited 2 plus months for their miner to arrive.

The website sucks: Compare it to slush, because yes that is the biggest competitor. Their interface is gorgeous. Lots of information, lots to see. All relevant stuff is addressed and laid out.

The app sucks: Again compared to slush, its ridiculous.

Spend the time and money to update the site. Make it more user friendly.(read newcomer) I'm slowly getting the hang of things, but I have to say none of the questions I've needed addressed would have happened at slush. Theres really no reason for the website and app to suck so hard in what is more or less the top of the computing world.

It's ok, bud. You may be happier at slush, but you'll make more here. Are your feelings and impressions of GUI's more important than your wallet balance?

edit: wanted to add that the website has all the information you need. 'sall good, homey.

This isn't exactly how you win new people over, homey.

The website looking like a middle school science fair project with an app to match IS a legitimate issue. Someone suggesting that making it more usable than the current pile of dogshit would cost over 100k? or take time; implying that over three years isn't enough? Come on, lets be realists.

ROI is why I chose this pool, and adding a bit more horsepower to the pool would help lower the awesome variance.

It's comments like this that make me understand the ramp more and more. I have zero complaints so far from this community or the payouts. The luck sucks right now, but that's luck for ya. We also had one hellova luck streak with 4 blocks in a couple days. I'm happy, but if bright lights and colors are needed to keep you clapping your hands, you could always leave......unless you have a couple thousand terahash, then moan as much as you wish. Happy mining.

Have there been any issues with the pool today? I just got back from an out of town wedding and see that my miners had all failed over to the 3 pool I have them on. Primary is the stratum.kano.is and secondary is nya. Not sure what happened to cause it. Maybe my internet connection bounced a couple of times or something.

Right here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg29061797#msg29061797

Yes, I was aware of that. I had blips in shifts quinn and again in sena and was just trying to decide why. Lost stratum and nya and ended up on my third pool. Not for long, about 15 min on quinn and 7 minutes or so on sena. Not to concerned, probably something on my end as no one else seemed to have the problem.

Mine on!

I was sitting here trying to figure out why my S7's were screaming at me. They all caught back on, but my ths never fully recovered. I'm not sure what's going on here but here's a snipet from where I lost stratum and my miners haven't recovered though all workers are hashing.

I started an s9 on Dec 31st, just  got fully ramped on the 22nd so the next block we find  will be a fully ramped up payout

22 days to ramp up?

Yes, if the last block would have been around 70-100 percent I would have been ramped up also.
Yes the 'ramp' is directly dependent upon the pool hash rate.
If someone is 50% 'ramped' in 8 days, the next 50% could take 7, 6, 5 etc depending on the pool hash rate.
Time isn't a factor in the 5Nd calculation at all.
5Nd is quite literally a number of shares submitted to the pool - so of course the bigger the hash rate, the faster each 1Nd (or fraction thereof) will be.

I think I found why my ramp up seemed to take a little longer. My shift graph has been wonky and now that I see the whole picture, I'm clearly losing hash enough to throw off my average.
I believe (not 100% confirmed yet) that my internet connection may be dumping packets. I've noticed when I leave on a Friday and our computers are off their virtual connections, the has rate is more consistent.
I was chasing a problem and blaming the machines, Avalon A6's particularly, as the S7's seemed more consistent. A closer look at each miner shows the dips aren't as dramatic as the daisy chained Avalons losing hash all at once, Avalons are workers 100, 200, 300, but is still present on the S7's
The overall shift graph shows more of a trend in when the hash drops.

Still my best theory so far as of today, working on some changes tomorrow.

You guys can always PM Kano.  He can unlock your account for you if he's awake.  What's with the rash of account lockouts lately?
Due to the fact that on occasion, recently, people have pointed a sizeable collection of computers at the web server trying to login hundreds of times a minute, and done that for a number of days, I changed a setting to ban you faster if you make a mistake repeatedly.
Thus it picks up normal users making mistakes, a little more often than before, but also picks up these annoyances with their baby-botnets very quickly.

That would account for the higher rate of lockouts! I'd better be careful logging in! Cheesy

My first login attempt will always fail, no matter how slow and careful I type my password. The second attempt will always login. I've tried this numerous times with the same results and just live with it.

This only happens on mobile, btw. First attempt works every time from PC.  Cheesy

Wow! Cobramining had quite the increase in terahash....

I've noticed some S7's are starting to fall in price. I wonder if the S9's will fall slowly as well as they are being released or if they are just going to be the "go-to" while everyone dumps their S7's.

I'm really trying to build up my hash rate.

Thoughts?

Where did you see the S7s?
That's all I can seem to afford right now.
Would love to save up for S9 but I have no self control. Sad

Prices on Ebay are starting to drop.

gl man. Yeah I have mine in a shop, separate building than my home. Its small, only 120 sf with a 9' ceiling on a 4/12 pitch for a total volume of around 1000 cubic ft. I started leaving the window open a little but noticed that if it got too cold they lag.  Roll Eyes Huh Huh let me know if you want any other infoz
Quote
When you say shop, do you have central air out there or are you running a portable A/C or no A/C at all in the summer? I am building a shed to house my miners, currently only 4 S9's but plan to add on as profits allow. I am planning on running an exhaust fan to the shed and boxing in the hot side , while running a portable AC unit with 10000 BTU cooling. This should allow me to keep the shed cool even on the hottest summer days. Not sure what your setup is looking like but I am all about any input other users have on mistakes they may have made in the past or things they wish they had done differently.

I built this shop especially for mining though it has more purpose than just mining including storage and a work bench, etc, with the consideration of a great deal of heat being generated. It is an "open building" in that I constructed it, and when I build the roof system I opted to ommit the 2x6 rafter blocks and went with 2x4 so there is an open air gap at the top of the roof pitch. This is a flat roof, btw.  so considering the rise of heated thermal air, a constant cycle of air is produced. I have no HVAC quipment, just a 3d printer on the desk running sometimes. my miners are on shelving that built at about 6'.

So far, I am very pleased with the design. It doesn't get too hot (yet), though if it does its resolved simply by cracking the window.

If I'm not mistaken, I read that anything sub-100 deg. C is A. O. K.

Mine are thriving in their custom lava submersion tank.

wouldn't worry too much about what you see on your S9s...that's been doctored by Biteme in BMminer.  I would focus on the errors shown on the Kano Workers page and then only to verify that it is close or lower than the Invalids shown at the top of each Kano page.

I do notice that too cold is bad.

For reference what are we calling "Too cold". Less than 70? Less than 60? I still have no idea where everyone else's system runs. Lately my 4 s9's have been enjoying the cold snowy air in Arkansas and the spread ranges from 62c chip temp to 77c chip temp at the moment.

My best hash rate is right around 80-83 degrees.

Anything less than 75 and  they're losing 20% of the hashrate. They seem happy to chill around 80-82 degrees with fans around 4500 to 5400 rpm

That's interesting....Mine are in the 59 to 61 range. I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I need to monitor carefully because during the day we have a window open and the high cfm fan sucks a lot of heat out. In the evening, we lock it down and the room runs warmer. I've noticed my hash seems to do better in the top right corner of Kano when I monitor it from home (windows shut).

I will be doing a little recon into this now and collecting some data. Thanks for the info, I'll see if it holds true over here.

Looks like I haven't checked the temp in a while. Was showing 39 and 40's !! I shut the window and the room got hot quick, it shut off an S7 that I could feel the heat radiating off of. The Avalons jumped up to 66 and 72 but I opened it back up afte the S7 pooped on me. Now window is open and they are all going. I guess I'm stuck at this for now. I just feel like I'm losing around 8-9 TH/s total based on calculations.
11x A6 @ 3.5 TH/s each +
4x S7 @ 4.73 TH/s each = 57.42 TH/s
I'm showing usually 48.72

All issues coming from the Avalons. Through the controller's page, they are only hashing around 2380-2700 gh/s per machine. Some higher, some lower. I've switched them around, but then that machine will do higher while a different now loses. So confusing. I've given up on this before and it sounds like I'll have to do it again. Hard to to though.

I don't think I have any power issues.....I'm running 2400 watt PSU with breakout board (I think that's what it is, I'm still green) to run 2 miners at a time. They A6 is rated at 1080 watts each. Something is up and it's interesting and annoying.
https://imgur.com/a/gFFL5

I have two 1300 watt EVGA power supplies for each 741 with no issues. I don't think you can scratch a power issue off the list of possible causes.
[/quote]

Each PSU is on it's own 30 amp breaker 240V.
So a controller with 4 A6's has two separate PSU's.
I have 3 controllers total running 11 A6's yet on the shift graph, they seem to follow the same pattern as far as when they dip. I noticed one of the S7's does as well. Could it be internet connection? They are all running to a ported switch, maybe it's acting up? Just guessing. I'm clueless here, doesn't make sense to me.

My avalons don't seem very consistent. I'm running 11 A6's and my shift graph has huge spikes of high and low and inconsistency. My S7's are almost dead on though. I've even ran the A6's through 3 separate controllers to see if that would help and nada. Maybe that's how they are supposed to run, I don't know.

https://imgur.com/MD1CFHY

My 741's are very consistent. However, once enough time elapses the graphs changes its Y value increments to much smaller units, therefore you'll see what look like larger variations of hash rate although it is fluctuating fractions of a GHS.

Have you looked at the image of my shift graph? I was wondering if it was normal, but you can see my S7's at the bottom are very consistent as well.

Yes, however your screenshot omits the most important data which is the Y axis value interval.

It still shows the average on the right side for comparison of TH/s intervals......
Here is a better pic though to make it easier to read.

Ok yeah, excuse me for that I guess I wasn't looking close enough. Are you certain you've got no power issues? That variation is crazy. CRAY Z.

In other news, its been a bit since I've seen any really comitted dancing. Dancing is an important ingredient, here.

I can basically guarantee we'll hit a block in the next hour. "basically".

Your mention an A6 but your screen shot is an S9. Are you powering both? If so, I bet it is your power. S9 = 1370 and you say an A6 is 1080, thats 2450. For a 2400w you shouldn't be using more than 1920. (80% rule) Though if you are on 220V ignore all of what I just said.

I do not own an S9. Must be a different screen shot.

I believe we're actually running 240V.

Right after the 10/18:00 mark is when I switched the worker settings and controllers around. Worker 1 and 2 are running 4 A6's and worker 5 is running 3. I split them into 3 controllers because as you can see before the switch, they were still all over the place. It didn't seem to help. I assuming it was only because they weren't ramped in or had enough data, but the consistent S7 readings throw that theory out.

Moving that scale of an operation from China to Canada would hardly be a month downtime. I wonder what affect it would have on machine production as well though....
