141  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets on Iphones on: January 21, 2015, 03:07:48 PM
Just a question i would like to ask having a bitcoin wallet on my iPhone how safe are these... safer than leaving them on a computer wallet? If so doesn't anyone recommend any bitcoin apps

They're only as safe as you are. I wouldn't keep all my coins on my phone. You should keep the majority offline and a little to spend on your app. If you download the blockchain.info app you can keep your coins online and sync up with the app but i'd still only keep a small amount on there.
142  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Warning: WoodCollector on: January 21, 2015, 02:35:46 PM
I don't really think anyone spent 14k on a piece. I think that is a shill to drive business on these smaller items.  If someone did spend 14k on a piece of laser etched wood.... well that money must have not meant much to them in the first place.

Actually I just found out someone did indeed spend $14k on a piece. Blazedout419 is no shill account, I've dealt with him several times. But the money he spent was before this fraud surfaced.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=864472.0

I am aware of what is being represented in that thread.  I am saying I am skeptical of the whole thing.  If that guy has 14k to blow on a small piece of wood then I guess maybe I am jealous, but it also pisses me off because of the obvious lack of value represented in this piece.  What I mean is that for 14k you could get some really amazing things and even if that particular piece was not horribly misrepresented it still looks like a piece of shit at that price.  Anyway.  I hope nobody actually got screwed that bad.

If the person who received it is happy with it and doesn't feel ripped off after this revelation then good for him, but personally I'd be disappointed with the actual piece before this controversy even if I'd had spent a few hundred bucks on it (just going by the pictures of the shoddy inside carving). The coins still look really cool, though.

Does anyone have any idea how much the wood he used costs? I wonder if he has been lying or misrepresenting that as well.Would be interesting to see his mark ups.

Has the winkleviiii comented on the current downtrend? Feels bad man, they spent like what, a couple dozen million dollars on Bitcoin? they have lost of o money. Hopefully the downtrend begins this years. I hope it stays low so I can buy a lot more tho.

I wouldn't worry about them, they can take the losses pretty comfortably. They're also big believers in the future of bitcoin so I don't think they'll be that worried. They both have twitters so you could have a look on there if you're interested to see their recent comments though I haven't been personally following them.
144  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Warning: WoodCollector on: January 21, 2015, 01:20:54 PM
you would think the inside would be etched also and not left looking so scruffy

I remember seeing one of these and thinking it was a pretty wonky job and couldn't believe the price someone had paid fir it (but I had no idea how hard it would be to carve something like this?). Whats the consensus on his actual talents? The coins do look excellent and very cool, but does all it take is creating a digital file to then sit infront of a laser to etch everything for you or is there more to it than that?
145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Do People Believe Bitcoin Will Replace Fiat? on: January 21, 2015, 01:09:08 PM
I tend to think they are delusional, but then I look at this:

http://www.usdebtclock.org/

and think those that are delusional and mentally insane are those that aren't investing their life savings on Bitcoin.

There's a difference between thinking it will replace fiat and really wanting it to because it's obviously the better and fairer option. Most intelligent people can see the evils in the current banking and monetary system and bitcoin is a solution to that. Will it ever happen? Sadly probably not but we can hope.
146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be bigger than Facebook on: January 21, 2015, 01:06:30 PM
If you referring to total users, it's still a long way
But, if you referring to total market cap, it's already happen

Total market cap of what. Bitcoin and Facebook in USD?

Facebook currently +- 210B Bitcoin currently +- 2.9B

So what exactly is already happening?

I think the only thing that is happening here is false information (unless he would like to clarify). Bitcoin isn't bigger than facebook in any capacity currently, but I can see it becoming bigger in terms of users and worth other time, though I am sceptical it ever will sadly.
147  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam accusation against... Myself and my partner on: January 21, 2015, 01:02:02 PM
I have decided that a good way to make this back honestly is to join a signature campaign, but I have been banned from them due to my negative trust.
How am I supposed to pay this back if I am not allowed due to my negative trust? It is a paradox. I can't make this money because I have negative trust, and I have negative trust BECAUSE I cannot make this money.
You are making it extremely hard for me in paying you back, there is honestly no reason I have to stay here and try to help.

How about honesty and doing the right thing? It's not going to be easy and you're going to have to work hard to recover the money but that's the price you pay. You can either try do the right thing or just walk away but you can't blame it on signature campaigns.
148  Other / Off-topic / Re: General Football Discussion on: January 21, 2015, 12:23:54 PM
Today Liverpool - Chelsea, will be a great match.

Liverpool has had a few good matches, let's see how they do against FC Costa.

mine vote is for Chelsea, dont get me wrong all Liverpool fans my kid is Liverpool fan and he sad that Chelsea will win this.

Lol the game was played yesterday and it was a draw. This weeks Chelsea vs Man City game should be interesting. I can see another draw but I think Chelsea will just pip them at the post which will be bad news for City as they'll widen the gap at the top.
149  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice | Most Popular/Trusted Bitcoin Game | 1% Edge | Active Chat | Free BTC on: January 21, 2015, 12:17:44 PM
Signature campaign launching very soon!
Launching soon means months. We've all learned from over two years of long delayed promises from you Stunna that "soon" actually isn't soon. Take for example the launch of PD2 and the launch of PD3. Promised "next week guys" for months on end for them...

Don't hold your breath people.

Just testing the tracking bot for it now Smiley

I wouldn't these sort of announcements till everything has been tested. Some bug or something will always come up that delays the launch. That being said, very excited for it to launch again. Can you provide us with some details on the campaign in the meantime.
150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What main reasons are there against tinting coins? on: January 21, 2015, 12:08:10 PM
What are the main reasons for tinting coins? I don't see why coins should be marked in this way. What real benefits does it serve?

Somehow restricting criminal activity? I know, it's a tough thing to sell.

Who gets to decide what is criminal activity? I just can't see this being a good thing except to bitcoin haters who complain about the coin being used for criminality and drugs etc. All this will likely do is just hurt innocent people who happen to receive some dirty coins for whatever reason.
151  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: January 21, 2015, 12:06:06 PM
sed, like I told you last time, if you aren't happy with my thread, go create a new one and have fun keeping it updated all the time (and no, you aren't allowed to copy my thread).

I got permission from the staff to put up an ad long before I become a staff myself, so your argument is false, no matter how you put it. Yes, I do get paid by the forum for doing my job on the Dutch sub-forum, but those payment will be even less then I get from the ad. Why? Because I get paid based on how much I do, which isn't a lot because the Dutch sub-forum isn't that active and they behave like it should.

Confirming this!

What is the problem with that small ad? It is a work which needs more time. You can't do it for free. Anyway, all people think he doesn't deserve it, just don't advertise. If you really think it is annoying, you will have to remove the signature first.

   ~~MZ~~

People just like to whinge on here for the tiniest of reasons. It's usually just down to jealousy or envy or just plane not liking the person. The money he gets from this is pittance and regardless of how busy the op is this thread is still getting hits and is still updated very regulary. It doesn't need to be updated every two minutes and people have lives outside of this forum so give him a break, but if you do decide to post your opinions you can expect to get some back.
152  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will be bigger than Facebook on: January 21, 2015, 11:49:41 AM
Bitcoin already IS bigger than Facebook, because 1BTC is worth more than 1 Facebookaccount

It's not like I can have 0.2187 FB account, or can I?

One day facebook will end up just like myspace, but BTC is here to stay, folks.

agreed

But you could say that about bitcoin. Bitcoin may be just the myspace of social networks. I really hope not but it something obviously better comes along then it will easily go the same way.
153  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sucks its nearly impossible to sell tangible goods for BTC! on: January 21, 2015, 11:43:43 AM
Only thing is using a visa typically costs the merchant money, not the consumer. only if everyone started using btc, and the merchant noticed and then lowered prices would you save money.  Moreover, the money you could lose by a 10-30% swing in btc price/USD will greatly outweigh any transaction cost savings.

I've seen quite a few places offer a discount for BTC on account of that, it could do a lot to encourage adoption but not heard any figures for it and I'd imagine they're be very hard to get.

Yeah I think Dell did initially, but only on their alienware comp's.  Overstock may have too on certain goods, but def not enough places that your average joe would decide to go figure out how to use btc, buy some, then use it to save a few dollars. Seems like these offers only got current users/holders to spend some they already had.

This sort of thing is the big benefit of bitcoin to merchants and hopefully they'll realize that over time but sadly the general public usually doesn't realize a good thing so it can take time but it if we keep spreading the word and have faith hopefully this will change... but it wont come overnight.
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "The Hive" a $14,000usd Bitcoin Art Piece on: January 21, 2015, 11:40:04 AM
This is a beautiful art piece but is it made from animal ivory? If so people need to realise that these animals are going extinct because of animal killings

Lol it's ivory wood. Nothing to do with animal ivory.

We are here on a public forum to express our opinions, my opinion is that it's a worthless piece of shit. How is it indicative of my intelligence or entitles you to condescend and generally be an unpleasant fart I shall never know.

Who cares if it's the 3rd rarest sea shell with the 3rd rarest blue spot, it's still a useless crap.

Ahh, yes, we can see hints of the painters rough childhood at the bottom left strokes, the colors are clearly indicitive of his mixed sexual orientation and his sexual urges towards his mother, dem plebeians could never comprehend the sophistication! let me swirl my wine in my glass some more.
Meanwhile us normal people who aren't braindead pretentious faggot stoners are buying guns, cars and actual pieces of art.

Art is always subjective, but I always bring up Jackson Pollock's paintings when this sort of discussion comes up. That's one of the most expensive paintings in the world and quite clearly anyone who isn't a pretentious fuck can see that it's bullshit, but if people want to pay ridiculous amounts of money for stuff then they're free to do it.
155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin startup GAW Miners reportedly under SEC investigation on: January 21, 2015, 11:28:52 AM
There's a lot of shitslinging between mining companies and disgruntled users of them so it wouldn't surprise me if this was just slander by one of their competitors. Seems like there's lots of paid trolls around here that hassle certain companies.

Where can I find leaked document?

You probably can't. It's likely fud or misinformation spread by someone for whatever reason.

Although it would probably bring the whole thing to the SEC's attention if it hasn't come to their attention already.

How do you know it hasn't? (I'm don't believe it has either but would like to know how you're so sure?).

157  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is tax free! on: January 21, 2015, 11:17:05 AM
Bitcoin is tax free!

Bitcoin is protected by militia groups all over the world. Small businesses don't have to pay taxes to militia groups if using Bitcoin.
However, they must pay taxes if they convert their Bitcoin to the USD.

Yeh, I'm sure the judge will buy that excuse when you're sat in court for tax evasion. You have to pay taxes on bitcoins if you earn them as a wage and I'm pretty sure there are other situations where you will have to too. Each country will have different laws in that respect so it's best checking before following some random persons advice on the internet.
158  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much Bitcoin do you think you would need to hold to become a millionaire? on: January 16, 2015, 01:56:07 PM
21 bitcoins is all you need to become a $ millionare in 5 years, thats if bitcoin trebles in price every year.

initial outlay                  $4,200

2015         $600  =      $12,600
2016       $1800  =      $37,800
2017       $5400  =    $113,400
2018     $16200  =    $340,200
2019     $48600  = $1,020,600

correct me if i'm wrong

Well that's all well and good but it hasn't trebled last year - it lost more than half it's value - and has continued to crash. That being said I still think bitcoin is in its infancy so it could achieve this doubling or trebling over the next few years but I am sceptical.

Federal agents also said they found incriminating evidence when they searched Mr. Ulbricht’s apartment the day of his arrest. Officials found a crumpled piece of paper in Mr. Ulbricht’s wastebasket that contained details of a buyer and vendor ratings system that matched details of a ratings system posted on a Silk Road discussion forum by Dread Pirate Roberts, Mr. Der-Yeghiayan told jurors. Mr. Ulbricht faces seven criminal charges related to his alleged running of the site.

Roll Eyes. I really don't see how any one would buy this. He was caught red handed. The only thing that interests me about this case is how long he's going down for. It looks like it'll be life to me but this is the first case of it's kind  so it's intriguing.
160  Economy / Services / Re: Wants a Job on: January 16, 2015, 01:25:27 PM
As others have mentioned you should list all of your skills and what you can offer and you'll likely get more interest. Also how much money you are looking to recieve this month as that could be a defining factor in someone hiring you? Good luck.
