Tiny bit of news for this wednesday from Mr Treal

Since my last post I have been able to get another DC load installed on the VRM. which has allowed me to really push the VRM closer to its limits. With the new resistor bank in place, the VRM is outputting 286A at 1V.  .. http://peppermining.com/vrmtesting2/

Great news everyone we have our first prototype board done! Here is a pic of the design:

Read more about the process to put this together at our blog http://peppermining.com/building-the-first-prototype-board/.

Have a great sunday!

Is that 4x 6 pin power connectors I see?

Yep.. will need 4 power connectors from the psu.. more details to come!

Getting us back on track, any word on how the project us going? We are anxiously awaiting the good news!
Well, parts are on order for the prototype boards, and everything should be here Monday.
The general plan is to build one sans ASIC, and test out all of the basic functionality of the device and characterize the power supply. After that, a full unit will be brought up and once we can demonstrate hashing we'll be ready to order a production run of PCBs and order some chips from HashFast.

Yep, next week will be pretty interesting and exciting at the same time! It seemed like this was a long week waiting for these pcb's to come in but well its almost over and we can start next week with a lot more updates, pics and info! We have quite a few people interested in the board and mailed us already if you haven't please head over to http://peppermining.com/board-interest/ and fill this out.  Note this is just gauging interest this doesn't tie you into anything.

Cheers and happy Friday!

For a mining ASIC, the voltage regulator module (VRM) is one of the most critical aspects of the design. The VRM takes the input power (usually at 12V) and lowers the voltage to whatever is needed by the ASIC. The process isn’t perfect as there are always power losses in the conversion process. If your VRM is too noisy or isn’t able to provide the amount of power your ASIC needs, performance will suffer. Even if an undersized VRM is able to provide enough power, its efficiency will go down as it is pushed to the max.

Read the rest at http://peppermining.com/deconstructing-the-habanero-vrm/, and if you have any comments please ask them here!

nice; so any specs as to what form factor the mounting holes are? e.g. LGA1155 etc.. or measurements? so we can go research what accessories will fit Smiley
The mounting holes are LGA115x, though like the Chilis the ASIC on the Habanero is a little lower than the standard socketed CPU and not all mounting hardware will work. I haven't found a heatsink yet that just wouldn't work and it's usually as simple as just buying 50 cents work of screws to hold the heatsink/waterblock down with.

The board itself is 5x5" x 11", and the outer mounting holes are 125mm x 265mm apart.
There are actually two sets of mounting holes. One is two sets of holes in a 125mm square with the two squares separated by 15mm. Using these holes, it’s the same spacing as two 140mm fans side by side.
The second is two sets of squares with 105mm distance separated by 15mm. This is the same as two 120mm fans side by side.
The idea on this is that not only can you use the outer four holes for mounting to a plate as normal, but you could also mount it to the radiator for a water cooling setup. Basically, you could mount the radiator to the case and mount the fans on it, then mount the board to the radiator on some 2" standoffs. As the fans suck air in to blow through the radiator, it pulls air along the board without needing extra cooling fans.

This information has been added to our FAQ section on the site. http://peppermining.com/frequently-asked-questions/

Thanks QuiveringGibbage for asking this question.

I'm only asking this because I am/was (TBD) about to purchase 2 more S1 AntMiners. Are we talking weeks before production would start and payments would need to be made or a month or longer? I know unexpected things always pop up but I was wondering about any indication as to timeline so I can make a decision on whether or not to buy the S1's or hold off and wait.

Edit: Hey Gateway you need a favicon.ico of a habanero pepper for the website. I would love to see a little pepper in my browser tab. (This is just jibber jabber I hope I don't offend)

Done and thanks for the reminder!

I notice you didn't complain when the chili used BFL chips.   Roll Eyes

You know... As much as I wanted to support MrTeal's work his first round, I wasn't able to because of the BFL connection.

This post if yours just completely turned me off of this project for the same reasons. You remind me too much of "he who shall not be named" and I'll be damned if I ever support a company like that again.

Sorry my friend this is not what we wanted to start in this thread.  We have asked that HF_CL does not post in this thread and for this threads direction to move back towards the development progress and info over the next 2 weeks.  I do understand if you do not want to have anything to do with this and I would ask you to reconsider. So now that all the HF hate is out and Mr. Teal has explained his stance on this we would like to move forward on the thread.  We should have some announcement of the progress of the board soon and as always if you feel like not having to read this thread just head over to our site where we will keep progress updated.  http://peppermining.com

Thanks.

In the order of figuring out interest for the a complete board with chip we added a small form we would ask you to fill out.  This will help us gauge over the next few weeks how many boards batch one will look like and how to make sure we can keep up with the demand, but also doing this you will be contacted first when our shop goes live.

Please visit http://peppermining.com/board-interest/

Cheers!

Is this building done inside or outside EU? It has strong impact of my interest in it.

Currently this will be handled in the US.

Just added a FAQ section to the site http://peppermining.com/frequently-asked-questions/ .  I'll try to collect any q&a stuff located here or send to us via email and try to keep the faq page updated.

What type of confidence you do have that HashFast will deliver their GN chips? Additionally, where is that confidence coming from? Have you spoken with members of their team or do you have access to their chips/boards already?

I ask for several reasons, most being to clean up the bad taste in my mouth!

We have chips and boards from them.  See in the picture above next to the Habanero those are 2 GN chips in the hands of Mr Teal Smiley

Edit: opps didnt see Mr Teals reply when I was doing mine Smiley
