1421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JPMorgan criticised cryptocurrencies that they cannot be printed as weakness! on: February 16, 2018, 09:49:01 PM
Ha! He's wrong. We know that Tether regularly gets printed and that's a cryptocurrency.

Though they are of course being investigated for being a possible scam. Which says it all for printed currencies, doesn't it?
1422  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Looking for a working bitcoin card on: February 16, 2018, 02:44:12 PM
The following website has a list of the best Mastercard bitcoin debit cards:

http://www.bestbitcoincard.com/mastercard/

Make sure you research all the cards yourself (put the card name + scam into google to see what comes up), before you sign up.
1423  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I lost over 80k because i sold too early (newbie mistake) on: February 16, 2018, 02:40:05 PM
A while ago i went all in ZClassic and bought about 365 Coins when the price was about 2$ per coin, but i decided to sell a couple of days after.
Two weeks later zclassic mooned and i could make about 80k now.

i learned my lesson in the hard way..

If you have sold for a profit, you still did well.

Not all coins moon, so those who hold on and hold on hoping for a moon often end up losing money and becoming bagholders instead.
1424  Economy / Economics / Re: Better to mine or to buy ? on: February 16, 2018, 02:33:34 PM
Hi everybody,

I'm asking myself a question for 2 weeks. I'm mining a profitable coin (let's call it Acoin) and I want a Bcoin that has a lower profitabilty but I think it will grow a lot in this year.
Is it better to mine Bcoin ? or mine Acoin and buy Bcoin with the Acoin mining ?

Thanks for your opinion Smiley

Your best bet is to join a mining pool - they switch miners to profitable coins automatically for you, depending on the difficulty and the price.
1425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hackers Stole $50 Million in Cryptocurrency Using 'Poison' Google Ads on: February 16, 2018, 02:23:39 PM
Google made profits from those "poison ads" ??

Yes. Google makes a small profit every time someone clicks an ad.

The hackers paid google by the click, and they probably thought it was very cheap for the gains they were making through hijacking people's wallets.

Like I said: bookmark the urls of the exchanges you use. Don't google them.
1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: And the ETC/ETH plot thickens .. Coinbase possibly insolvent ? on: February 16, 2018, 02:19:56 PM
This FUD thread hasn't aged well.  Coinbase is now bigger and more profitable than ever.

Never forget how paid Dash shills spread baseless FUD against Coinbase simply because that exchange refused to support Dash due to its high standards (NO INSTAMINED/CENTRALIZED HYIP SHITCOINS) for new coin listings.

Ha, ha. I was reading the thread puzzled, and it was your comment that made me realise it was a thread from 2016.

In any case, Coinbase has insured it's hot wallets, so even if they were attacked, it wouldn't bring them down.
1427  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Saudi Arabia's deal with Ripple on: February 16, 2018, 02:15:36 PM
Saudi Arabia's central bank signs blockchain deal with Ripple

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-saudi-cenbank-currency/saudi-arabias-central-bank-signs-blockchain-deal-with-ripple-idUSKCN1FZ0LD

Will this news make ripple price to skyrocket $5?

Should we buy now?

If you read your link, it doesn't involve Ripple as a currency - it involves their other software. The article said that Saudi was gettiung help from Ripple to create their own digital currency.
1428  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin recovering to $10,000 could bring a new buyers.. on: February 16, 2018, 02:11:38 PM
Bitcoin climbed back above $10,000 Thursday for the first time in two weeks and some analysts see the psychologically key level as a trigger for new buyers to come into the market.

It won't bring new buyers.

The new buyers in the second part of last year only came because they saw that bitcoin had risen from $1000 at teh start of the year in what seemed like a one-way bet to riches.

Now they know it's not a one-way bet, the price falls back. We would need sustained rises to tempt the new buyers back.
1429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why I'm not believing in bitcoin anymore on: February 16, 2018, 02:07:45 PM
even with Lightning Network people holding their coins and not really using them.

so Crypto  became trade market and not currency

if people not looking at bitcoin as currency in real life, we kinda losing the whole point of bitcoin here

Part of the problem is the limited supply. When a currency is deflationary, people hoard it, they don't spend.

I'm pretty sure another cryptocurrency will end up being the one used everywhere, while bitcoin will be digital gold.
1430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It costs $26,000 to mine one bitcoin in South Korea — and just $530 in Venezuela on: February 16, 2018, 01:54:39 PM
Are you sure about the $26,000 to mine one bitcoin in South Korea? I heard the average cost to mine bitcoin around the world is about $3k.

Electricity costs in south korea are expensive. They have a lot of demand from big businesses like Samsung, and the more demand the higher the electricity costs.

In places like Venezuela where there is not much industry, electricity is cheaper.

For years, hackers have robbed Bitcoin investors, emptying their cryptocurrency wallets without fear of being caught thanks to the relative anonymity of the blockchain. Now, Cisco (csco, +5.04%) has exposed the thieves behind a string of particularly flagrant attacks.

A Ukrainian hacker group dubbed Coinhoarder has stolen more than $50 million in cryptocurrency from users of Blockchain.info, one of the most popular providers of digital currency wallets, according to a report published Wednesday by Cisco’s Talos cybersecurity team.

The report explains how thieves preyed upon their victims using a “very simple” yet treacherous technique: Buying Google ads on popular search keywords related to cryptocurrency “to poison user search results” and snatch the contents of crypto wallets. This meant people Googling terms like “blockchain” or “bitcoin wallet,” saw links to malicious websites masquerading as legitimate domains for Blockchain.info wallets.

For example, the poison ads included “spoofed” links with small types like “blokchien.info/wallet” and “block-clain.info,” which sent visitors to a landing page that mirrored actual websites of the company Blockchain, which runs both the domains Blockchain.info and blockchain.com. (The legitimate sites appeared lower in results than the “poisoned” links, according to Cisco’s report.)

Fooled into believing they had come to the right place, victims then entered private information that allowed the hackers to gain access to their actual wallets and take their digital money. “The attackers needed only to continue purchasing Google AdWords to ensure a steady stream of victims,” the Talos team led by Jeremiah O’Connor and Dave Maynor said in their report.

Blockchain, for its part, is working with Google “on a daily basis” to take down phishing ads, and secured the removal of almost 10,000 such malicious websites last year, along with another 3,000 it flagged in January alone, according to Blockchain CEO and co-founder Peter Smith.

The solution to this is not using Google to navigate. If you already have an account at blockchain.info or an exchange, BOOKMARK the url and go straight to that instead of googling the exchange name.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission said on Thursday an investigation had found that a Brooklyn bitcoin mining operation interfered with T-Mobile US Inc’s (TMUS.O) broadband network.

The company had complained about interference to its 700 MHz LTE network in Brooklyn from radio emissions it said were coming from a Brooklyn residence mining for the cryptocurrency - verifying bitcoin transactions.

The FCC said its investigation determined the user was “generating spurious emissions on frequencies assigned to T-Mobile’s broadband network and causing harmful interference.”

The agency’s enforcement bureau said in a letter dated Thursday that continued use of an operation known as “Antminer s5 Bitcoin Miner” would constitute a violation of federal law and could result in fines, criminal prosecution or seizure of the equipment.

This is really bad for mining operations in the United States.

Bitcoin mining is costing South Koreans a lot of money.

Mining just one bitcoin in one of the world's biggest digital currency markets costs $26,170, according to data released by lighting and furniture firm Elite Fixtures.

The Elite Fixtures data also showed that Venezuela is the cheapest country in which to mine bitcoin. It costs $531 to mine the world's best known virtual currency there. Some Venezuelans have turned to bitcoin mining for survival in the economically struggling South American country.

The Elite Fixtures study analyzed electricity prices from 115 different countries, using data provided by governments, utility firms and the International Energy Agency. It worked out the price of power consumption based on averages from three popular cryptocurrency mining rigs.

1434  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to 10k on: February 16, 2018, 12:43:31 PM
It went to $10,250 yesterday, and we seem to be in a period of growth.

The question is: do people sell now to lock in gains or limit losses, or do people hodl in the hope it goes higher.

Yes, the opinion on this forum will be hodl, but we shall see where Bitcoin is in a month's time.

It's back under $10,000, so I guess some people sold to lock in their gains...
1435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core blockchain impossible to download now, too slow and too big on: February 16, 2018, 04:46:01 AM
Be patient - if you are new, it will take at least a week to download the entire blockchain from scratch.

BUT - once downloaded, you just need to update your wallet for ten minutes a week to keep updated and it should function as smoothly as butter.
Ok- but I won't hold my breathe  Smiley

80% to 84% in 10 hours boy o boy. I turned it off and unplugged the drive to give it rest, maybe getting too worked.

Don't unplug! Keep going. Once you are up to date it really is easy and smooth. You won't remember the hassle of getting up to date!
1436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Supply of Bitcoin will be lessen when its owner die? on: February 16, 2018, 04:07:05 AM
Considering a bitcoin owner of large amount, and he died w/o sharing his user/pw, Are those coins can be considered as deadcoin since those coins will not circulate anymore in the Network?

It's unlikely that anyone with a substantial amount of coins will die without sharing their wallets/encryption with their heirs. We already have an example of someone passing their coins to their family - Hal Finney.
1437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Has Bitcoin turned the corner? on: February 16, 2018, 03:58:44 AM
It's very noticeable how bitcoin has regaining its strength and power as its market cap and price is pushing up again.

It's because CFTC chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo was testifying again, this time about regulation:

https://www.coindesk.com/cftc-chair-us-tread-carefully-crypto-exchange-rules/

He basically argued that the federal govt should "tread lightly" and focus only on the bad guys who are doing wrong while letting crypto in general develop.
1438  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Litecoin Doubles In Value since early February on: February 16, 2018, 03:33:37 AM
Is it time to sell LTC or hold? What is the target price?

The old saying is "buy the rumour, sell the news". Litecoin has pumped in anticipation of the Litepay payment processor being launched on Feb 26th. When it actually launches, it's success depends on whether mechants actually sign up for it. I expect investors will take profits in advance in case not many sign up.
1439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how do you think about cryptocurrency which adopt lending system? on: February 16, 2018, 03:30:01 AM
There are proper successul lending systems on exchanges like Poloniex. And there is p2p lending on this very forum where lenders go by reputation.

I think the lightning hubs will facilitate lending, especially as the hubs act as defacto banks.
1440  Economy / Speculation / Re: Kraken failing to execute orders?!? on: February 16, 2018, 01:38:39 AM

To save you reading the whole thread, the gist of it is as follows.......Kraken accounts, where the user has opted for the default security options, allows withdrawals to be made without even Email authentication. Even if the Kraken account holder opts to use Kraken's 2FA authentication for withdrawals, 2FA can still be turned off by anyone with the password to the account. Only those who opt for 2FA on every single log-in, accounts are 'safe'.

Are you quite sure? For fiat withdrawals, they require that the name on your bank account matches the name on your kraken account. That's very hard to fake for a hacker.
