981  Economy / Economics / Re: Japan to Call for Crypto Rules at the G20 Summit on: March 15, 2018, 01:54:00 PM
Not certain if this is positive or negative news. It could be either. Japan has been content to live under the directives of the united states in the past and mirrored much of US economic policy. At the same time, japan has shown a will to become more independent. They recently built "helicopter destroyers" which are disguised pocket aircraft carriers capable of deploying fixed wing aircraft. This goes somewhat against terms of japan's surrender during World War II which prohibited them from building aircraft carriers. Germany likewise was prohibited from building many types of warships after World War I, which goes to show how ineffective those types of surrender terms can be.

There is a chance japan will echo the sentiments of central bankers with their anti crypto stance.

But there is also a chance japan will announce rules which protect the long term value of bitcoin as part of their recent independent streak. Guidelines which call for a cessation of trading on crypto exchanges if bitcoin's price declines by a certain amount could be implemented. Capital gains taxes or fees which encourage long term HODL rather than short term speculative daytrading could also be standardized to encourage long term value in bitcoin.

No matter how things pan out, we will know the answer soon enough.

It's positive news.

Japan is further advanced on crypto experience and crypto regulation than any other country. They are the ones who dealt with the MtGox collapse for example. So this is their big chance to shape international rules, simply because they have more hands on experience in this field than anyone else.
982  Economy / Speculation / Re: What if Bitcoin price drops even further? on: March 15, 2018, 01:11:20 PM
I don't want to sound I am panicking, but the price of BTC has reached the lowest point this month. Checking on the chart of this quarter on 5Feb there was this dip when the price of BTC even went down to $6,500

I heard people around me they believe BTC price will even fall further. Is this really gonna happen?

It might. Ask yourself if there are any reasons to buy bitcoin right now. If you were a noob, would you buy? I might buy at $6000 (and I've got some orders placed at that level), and I think that's the attitude of most people...
983  Economy / Economics / Re: Mt Gox Trustee has 160K more BTC - tool to follow if more cold wallets thawed! on: March 14, 2018, 05:46:34 PM
I just read another thread that a lot of shorts were opened on the US market today and immediately put two and two together but if what people are saying about him being unable to sell any more coins until after late September is true then who knows what's behind that.

Kobayashi could pull off a great trick by shorting bitcoin himself and then moving those funds to an exchange, he wouldn't even have to sell anything but he'd already have profited from that.

He sold sufficient amounts to meet the Mt Gox liaabilities as defined by the Japanese courts. He doesn't need to sell any more - I think under Japanese law, the rest of the coins belong to Karpeles.
984  Economy / Economics / Re: Why decentralized money system is needed on: March 14, 2018, 03:09:12 PM

Decentralization. Once there's decentralization, no one has ownership of the currency. No one can control and ruin millions of people's lives. That's why it's so important.

There will always be countries like China who ban cryptocurrency and put people in jail (with the threat of execution) if disobey.

We're never going to get a completely decentralised world because govts willing to hurt their citizens through violence will always exist.
985  Economy / Speculation / Re: panic or to be calm on: March 14, 2018, 02:31:33 PM
the more days the bitcoin price slumps down, how do you think, whether the price will stabilize or it will keep falling down ,, seems like I'm getting scared Angry

This dumps don't seem to be related with news, or bitcoin development. They actually look like coordinated sell outs to crash the market and cause some panic. Some say it's Mt Gox sell out, maybe it is, maybe it's not. It's hard to tell, but they don't look natural, so they should be over eventually. Or maybe it's from rich people that don't believe in bitcoin, or that just have so much coins, that they simply want to sell out a few, without completely destroying the market, so they do these sell outs in a timed way.

I don't think it's Mt Gox. The MtGox trustee needed to raise $400 million because that was the money owed to customers as at August 2014 when MtGox went into bankruptcy (the losses were crystallised at that point when the bitcoin price was $487).

He has no authority to sell any more - he's done his duty under Japanese law.
986  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC slumps again, is it heading for 6K or lower prices? on: March 14, 2018, 01:45:16 PM
As long as $8,370 holds, and it did almost a week ago, then we'll be up for another bounce back to potentially the $10,000 mark. If it breaks, then sub $8000 is almost a certainty, and that would indicate a lower demand.

I don't see the market dip under the previous bottom, because that would actually be somewhat worrying. It means that a long term cycle has been broken where the price never dipped below it previous bottom.

I am comfortably hodling my coins, and will continue doing so. I however will use the decreasing market to accumulate as many coins as possible within my financial reach, so there is not much to complain about for me.

You might want to put buy orders at the $6000 mark. We may get a quick flash crash where it dips below $8370 - and those who have their orders in advance will be the ones to benefit.
987  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think HODL is bad for your health? on: March 14, 2018, 01:15:25 PM
I find it kinda hard to HODL when the marketing is bearish... there is a lot of stress:p
Do you think going HODL might be bad for the health?Smiley

Is it because you are in a loss? Losing money is always hard to bear...

Hodling is easier when you are still sitting on a profit - you just turn off the apps and don't look at the price and get on with life.
988  Economy / Speculation / Re: more bad news: google to ban ALL crypto related ads on: March 14, 2018, 12:58:17 PM

It's not bad news, it's good news.

Most of those ads were for phishing sites, designed to steal people's log-ins for the exchanges. It gave noobs a bad impression that the crypto space was full of scams and crooks.

989  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin behavior during a recession on: March 13, 2018, 04:17:43 PM

Here is what will happen during recession to bitcoin prices:

1) Big companies will also have lack of funds as they will less number of prospects or work available. As  a result, they will be forced to sell their assets to pay for the running expenses. If they have bitcoin funds, they will have to sell those.

2) A lot of people will loose jobs. Since these people will have no source of monthly income to pay for rent and food, they will have use the savings. Once bank deposits are spent, they will have to sell crypto holdings.

All this will increase the supply and reduce the demand of bitcoins.

This. Anyone in distress (and this includes institutional investors facing margin calls or withdrawal of funds) will be sellers. However, there will be a few buyers at rock bottom prices.

The old school hodlers will continue to hodl.
990  Economy / Speculation / Re: Shower thought. Would this start "killing" the banks? on: March 13, 2018, 03:05:24 PM
What if every person loaned money from a bank or maxed out their credit cards to buy Bitcoin and deliberately not pay out those debts. Would that start "killing" the banks or, at all events, dent their dominance?

Sorry if this might be a shit topic. But go ahead, discuss. Haha.

That's fraud - and all that will happen is you end up in jail.

It won't hurt the banks, it will hurt you.
991  Economy / Economics / Re: China ends term limits, Xi Jinping to rule China for life? on: March 13, 2018, 02:32:47 PM

How do people see this panning out? It is interesting how Donald Trump is proposing greater term limits for political office, while in china the complete opposite is occurring with the further removal of term limits. Certainly there is a difference in methodology at the moment with china and america pursuing polar opposites.

It means that when Xi Jinping messes up (and he will, all leaders mess up eventually through either tiredness or hubris or both), they will have to assasinate him to remove him. Whereas before, it would have been a simple matter of saying, "your two terms are up, thank you for your service".

P.S. Donald Trump hasn't got a similar ability to extend term limits in the USA.

The two term limit is part of the Constitution - which means that to change it, you need two thirds of the Senate, two thirds of the House of Representatives AND two-thirds of the states to vote for it. It's pretty hard to do which is why the US constitution doesn't get changed much.
992  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you encourage friends and family to invest in crypto? on: March 13, 2018, 01:04:40 PM
I've given Christmas presents of bitcoin and other cryptos.

I don't want to tell people to invest though - because it's one thing receiving a present of cryptos but it's another being encouraged to invest your own money and things then going wrong (bitcoin price tanking).

Don't give investment advice to friends or family if you value the relationships.
993  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / NASDAQ listed Marathon Launches Massive Bitcoin Mining Operation in Quebec on: March 13, 2018, 12:04:06 PM
http://bitcoinist.com/marathon-launches-massive-bitcoin-mining-operation-quebec/

Quote
Marathon Patent Group, Inc. has commenced mining operations in Quebec.

According to reports from NASDAQ via Globe Newswire, Marathon had previously announced the purchase of 1,400 Bitmain Antminer S9 miners — commonly known simply as Antminer S9s — on Feb. 8.

A week later, Marathon announced that it had leased 26,700 square feet of space in Quebec to be used as a data center.

Today, Marathon has officially announced the successful installation of its aforementioned equipment. Likewise, Mining operations have also officially commenced, which — as noted by NASDAQ — “are expected to utilize approximately 2.0 MW and deliver approximately 19 Ph/s of ASIC mining capacity.”

This is one way of getting a piece of mining action - buying shares in publicly listed bitcoin mining companies.
994  Economy / Speculation / Re: Literally everyone FUDding Bitcoin just wants to get cheaper on: March 13, 2018, 11:22:46 AM
You guys never heard of short selling? I'm short most of the time so I want BTC to go lower most of the time. But I'm short because a reason and that's that I don't see any future for bitcoin. So I'm just posting my perspective of things. Just like the long people post their perspective (mostly something like "buy bitcoin because it will ALWAYS go up"). So I'm not really sure what the reason is behind this topic. Longs want the price to go up, shorts to go down, what's new here?

I'm not sure there is a future for bitcoin either. I sold quite a bit in December, and I'm glad now - at the time I thought I might be missing out on future gains, but the merchants abandoning bitcoin decided me.
995  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why we may be stuck in the current range for long on: March 13, 2018, 10:40:05 AM
Fud or not. This rally is over. Prepare for the slumber.

I think the reason for the quiet market is that there is no big news, no reason to buy. None of the merchants that dropped bitcoin last year have changed their mind. But they continue to add other cryptocurrencies. That's a red flag for bitcoin.
996  Economy / Economics / Re: Trump Blocks Broadcom Takeover of Qualcomm on Security Risks on: March 13, 2018, 10:18:05 AM

Qualcomm appears to do defense work for the government which could be the main reason the deal was blocked although there have been a high number of american businesses that have been bought out by foreign corporations over the last few decades which could be concerning.

While the Americans are fine with people from Singapore, there was a Chinese investor in the deal as well - and Trump is getting annoyed at the Chinese stealing American intellectual property. I expect that is the real reason the takeover was blocked.
997  Economy / Speculation / Re: The breakout is fake, BTC price will dip again. on: March 12, 2018, 02:27:28 PM
The next futures expiration is Wednesday March 14th:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/chuckjones/2018/03/11/bitcoins-next-futures-expiration-is-this-wednesday/#591965565ef9

The Cboe currently has four monthly Bitcoin contracts available. The closest one expires this Wednesday, and just over the past week it traded between $8,380 at its low point to $11,710 at its high, a 28.4% range. One news item that created this volatility was the SEC announcing that cryptocurrency trading platforms needed to register with it.

Bitcoin’s price on the Cboe closed at $9,257 on Friday. Since there is no physical aspect to Bitcoin all of its contracts will need to be closed before 2:45 pm on Wednesday or settled if the investor does not buy or sell their position. While there are many factors that drive Bitcoin’s price there may be some added volatility this week , and especially on Wednesday as the contract expires.

Some investors will try to close their contracts early if the price moves in their favour.
998  Economy / Economics / Re: Invest in BTC vs Invest in Real Estate? on: March 12, 2018, 01:44:50 PM
Bitcoin chart is going up and down some times I am thinking maybe I should invest part of my BTC (at least the part of the profit  I’ve made on crypto) into something real?!
Let’s say I can buy share of real estate company and get the part of profit (50-100% per Year).

Should I
Spend all my BTC on that shares?
                Spend small (profit) part?
Or just do nothing and wait?

Huh?!

I’ll do appreciate for answers with any suggestions and recommendations!

My two cents:

Don't invest in shares. They are a bigger bubble than anything else out there. Wait a few years till the stock bubble has burst before buying shares.

If you can buy real estate without incurring much debt, then do it. Everyone needs to live somewhere, and making sure you have your shelter secure should be a priority for everyone.

Keep some money in cash in case the bitcoin price drops and you want to buy some at a bargain price.
999  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Only Bitcoin or diversify? on: March 12, 2018, 11:58:19 AM
This one i guess is quite simple to the most of you. Recently i am kinda feeling that the smart thing to do would be stop growing my portofolio and start to look bitcoin as the only crypto investment for me. Just want to now your opinions on this because besides forums i cant really discuss this matter, let me know.

It depends on the rest of your portfolio, doesn't it? If you've been chasing ICO's, you might be better off just sticking to bitcoin.

But there are some alts that are exceptionally promising and it makes sense to hold them as a hedge if bitcoin goes wrong.
1000  Economy / Economics / Re: Which type of transactions causes more congestion to network? on: March 12, 2018, 11:08:35 AM
While it's nearly impossible to get accurate numbers, I'd like to hear what you guys think. Does international transactions (between 2 address that their owners are in different countries) cause more congestion to network? or local transactions (between 2 address that their owners live in same country).

It makes no difference - the bitcoin protocol treats both exactly the same.
