So they sell physical coins then?

Nope. Essentially just a paper wallet.

I am familiar with SR since 2 years back, when Sheep came I told EVERYONE everywhere that the site was a scam - turned out I was right... It's easy to fool people when you name it sheep theythink "if they wanted to scam me they wouldn't be stupid enough to name it Sheep" but that's the easiest way to scam... Do it in the open.

I'm not sure they were trying to pull off a double bluff. It's just the nature of these markets really, they just wont and don't have a long lifespan. I'm sure they'll get smarter and go more decentralised though. They're going to need to if they want to survive.

that doesn't even make any fcking sense, what does it's name have to do with anything..

Well that's conspiracy theorists for you. The vaguest of links is usually all they need to call INSIDE JERB!  Cheesy

Evil Dead 2: Laughter.
shakira falling in love

Not sure if this guy is a bot or not. Hardly any of his posts make sense.

What are the actual benefits from any rank after member tho except for -even- shorter posting restrictions?
I mean even if the restriction was only 5 seconds I don't think many people post more than once per minute anyway.

Probably no other benefits other than the wisdom of age and the glory of the title  Wink.

Robert_K is now vouching to become the least respected member for me.
Read more about it in this topic.
He's a newbie so not really. They tend to scam.

Yeah, a newb pulling of a small-scale won't make the grade. I think the least respected would have to be a massive scammer and/or troll.

Watched Leon for the first time in forever last night. It held up pretty well!

Which version did you watch? Apparently one is more paedo-y.

14290  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-02-21] Ars - Harvard supercomputing cluster hijacked to produce coins on: February 22, 2014, 11:52:22 AM
This should probably be in the alt coin section since it's not really Bitcoin press, but why didn't the guy choose to mine Bitcoin instead of Dogecoin if he had access to a supercomputer?  Cheesy

14292  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Should I spend all my money locked into mt.gox on bitcoins? on: February 22, 2014, 11:37:31 AM
It's a risk and you could lose either way. I'd probably take the gamble on the cheap coins.
14293  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Movie, coming March 2014: The Rise and Rise of Bitcoin on: February 22, 2014, 11:20:37 AM
This could be a good thing and a bad one too.
It all comes down on what it is about and how well it is filmed.

if you think that's good wait till you see the sequel,

'The Silk Road To Magic Mountain, A Bitter Truth'

There's already a couple of Silk Road documentaries in the works and a movie.

Make sure you stock up with btc just prior to opening day because regardless of how bad it looks like btc gets hit it will cause a surge (30%+) in value

Haha, yeah, I could see a lot of people going home and buying coins after the movie. It's probably 2 or 3 years away yet I reckon. They're writing the script at the moment.

who's the 'they', do you know my company would like to buy some product placement

They as in the producer and the screenwriter Dennis Lehane who wrote Shutter Island etc. I think you'll probably need some big bucks to buy placement in this film.
14294  Other / Meta / Re: End of newbie restrictions; ban changes on: February 22, 2014, 11:15:41 AM

Theymos, I'm sorry to say the lifting of the 'newbie' restrictions has made the board noticeably worse. To the point where I am seriously considering to stop using "my" subforum (speculation).

The number of new accounts aggressively opening useless threads is through the roof. I never had to put so many people on ignore as in the last week. And all of that, despite the subforum being run by a very competent mod (Blitz).

All in all, it really backfired, and I sincerely ask you to consider adjusting your decision.

How about the following: Allow sub-forum mods to set a certain 'activity' value that a user has to have reached before he can post in this forum, and keep at least one forum unrestricted ('beginners' comes to mind), so the newbies can earn their activity points there.

I'm not proposing anything elitist here, so maybe you could rule out too high activity numbers being set for a sub-forum, but some "credence check" really seems necessary to keep signal/noise in acceptable levels.

+1

Since the removal of newbie jail, we've been overrun with new accounts starting trollish/FUD threads, especially in "Speculation" and "Bitcoin Discussion."  I think Oda's suggestion above makes a lot of sense.

+2

Honestly, was Newbie Jail that bad? It's not like it took months to get out. Except for people with the attention span of a goldfish, having to wait for a few hours before being able to post in the main forums is not a big deal, especially if it means less troll/spam/fud posts.

It really wasn't that bad unless you're really impatient. I'd say the time limits between posting were much more annoying.

The forum is getting hit daily with loads of copy and paste bots all over. At least when they were locked in the newb sub it was quicker and easier to spot.

Is there any discussion going on between the mods or admins about bringing that section back?
14295  Other / Politics & Society / Re: If we're going to make Pot illegal, why not ban alcohol? on: February 22, 2014, 11:10:37 AM
The fact that it has worked on people and saved their lives says wonders.  Also take note of the statement "These compounds have been shown to induce apoptosis in glioma cells in culture and induce regression of glioma tumors in mice and rats."  Apoptosis is cell death.

I just think advocates for legalization do themselves a massive disservice by claiming it to be some magic cure all.  While it definitely deserves study for potential medical uses, to claim it is something like taxol is pretty laughable.  The argument to bring it out of the black market holds much more sway with me.

I agree. I think when people claim it as some sort of magic medicine for all ailments it has a negative impact. I'd love it if it was true, but I don't see any conclusive evidence for some of the more grandiose claims. I hope at some point I'll be proved wrong though.

Same, but he really seems like a smart guy and is a bit of a renegade. Read this great article for a bit more insight on him: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=459203.0

In fact, my beta fish, Hendrix, had swim bladder disease (he would sink to the bottom or float to the top) and so I sprinkled some kief (trichomes from cannabis) into his tank and he swam up to them and ate them, and not even an hour later, he was swimming back as his healthy self.  This worked on two occasions.

Haha, not exactly scientific, but maybe you should study this further. And it could just be a coincidence. My Dad's stupid wife "performed" reiki on one of his diseased turtles and it quickly got better and she took this as proof of the power of reiki haha.

Accounts with 50+ activity are now even more valuable since Primedice put their rates up to 0.0003 per post. You could soon earn the price you paid for the account back.

14300  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Unable to post on: February 22, 2014, 09:48:09 AM
Six minutes between posts for a new member isn't unreasonable, but the timer resets even if you navigate through the forum. For instance, if I find something I want to post on, I have to make sure not to touch that browser window or look at anything else on the forum for six minutes, else the counter will reset. I find that a bit strange.

That's not true. Log-ins, searches and attempted posts reset the clock, browsing or clicking around does not. The time limit also quickly goes down the more activity you get.
