Is BitPay or other payment processors out of the question? I don't see how having a site on Tor or clearnet would make a difference to you at the time of accepting payments. Does BitPay leak some information I am unaware of? Or is it against their TOS?

BitPay charges a fee AFAIK.
If he/she does this alone they save on that fee.
They can even take advantage of that small fee percentage and offer it as a discount to their customer.

[...]
And the final conclusion is "The future might not belong to Bitcoin, but it should to its technology."

Seems to be the new approach by main stream media: Bitcoin - boo! Blockchain - yay!

That is probably because of two reasons:
The ones behind these news are late to the party and are trying to accumulate cheap coins.
The ones behind these news are trying to create their own crypto currency.

1443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need advice on: June 15, 2015, 10:15:42 AM
I am assuming that you will not be having any hot wallets.
The best way to go is to generate a large number of addresses and then enter them in a database.
Then when an order is submitted (or new customer if fixed deposit address for each) you will automatically grab the first available address (one that was not used) and tie it to the order/customer no,
and of course give it to the customer to make the payment/deposit.

You can then just check if any transactions made to any address using blockchain info API: https://blockchain.info/api/blockchain_api

Hope that helps Smiley

EDIT: I know I do not need to mention this but just in case, DO NOT enter ANY private keys in the database.
You keep all private keys in your wallet and make sure it is well secured.
1444  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: The Viral Exchange allows users to earn Bitcoin with their Twitter & Facebook... on: June 14, 2015, 07:37:09 AM
This is a very nice idea, the website looks good too.

Finish the Blog and the FAQ section - most important.
Right now it says nothing found.

Also, sort out the Payment Proofs section.

Other than that, it's pretty good. Smiley

EDIT: Also, I believe this post belongs to the Services Section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0
1445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Mathematician John Nash Help Invent Bitcoin? on: June 14, 2015, 07:22:55 AM
I think this has been discussed on the forum previously... I still have the same opinion, John Nash definitely layed the foundation upon which Satoshi inspired himself to make Bitcoin... And then Satoshi had the mind, the will power and the skills to join coding, mathematics and finance together to create Bitcoin!

^^^That.

We find a lot of connections to a lot of people (e.g. Nick Szabo).
But my guess is that none of them is Satoshi.
They did however all play a major role in the conception of Bitcoin and the block chain by Satoshi.

LOL!
I actually expected some kind of a sarcastic article.
This is even better Cheesy

Did anyone get hurt there?
It looks like there is some kind of desk or stand in front of the car.
1448  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Difficulty jump! Barrier of entry for mining on: June 12, 2015, 07:15:05 AM
Difficulty has just jumped 5%, some 14/16nm chips are being turned on?

Where exactly u got the data of 5% difficulty jump ? Last difficulty update took place on May 31, 2015. Next is within 3 days and according to https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator it wil go down 2.3%.

There was a brief spike in mid May where the hashing power jumped to 419,739,370 for a few hours then dropped.

Maybe the OP is refferening to that.
It is actually the highest in the last 60 days.
1449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The overlooked existential threat of centralization on: June 12, 2015, 06:57:27 AM
Bitcoin is more and more vulnerable the less nodes it has.
The less nodes it has the more likely a ddos becomes which could have fatal consequences.
This kind of attack where an only medium size enitity (like mastercard or visa for example) could ddos 90% or more of the nodes on the network is highly overlooked and underestimated. That's also a reason a blocksize increase which would further reduce nodes is very unwise.

Imagine Bitcoin with less than 1000 nodes ... it wouldn't be secure at all anymore.

If someone really would manage to ddos almost all nodes on the network i could imagine multiple forks to occure.

Correct me if i'm wrong.

As others have said, the increased block size shouldn't be a concern for nodes.
And the block size is ofcourse dependant on the miners because I think that many of them would want to broadcast the found block as soon as it's found before someone else does.
That means that the size will depend on how fast a miner solves a block IMO.

Also, what does a DDoS attack have to do with centralization?
1450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Catastrophe Scenario on Bitcoin Network on: June 12, 2015, 06:43:33 AM
All we know Chinese Miners have total 56% mining power[1] publicly. (There's 26% that we don't know who have it).
What if Chinese government decides to cut their internet connection from outside of the world? (You know such thing can be done, eg: north korea [2]) Or maybe an earthquake can cut their internet from backbone (maybe not all of it but most of it).
And as result of these scenarios ~50% of miners in China will still mine bitcoins in a local internet like a huge LAN. And rest of the world will mine in another bigger LAN but there'll be no connection between them.  Of course there'll be 2 different major forks.

After 1 month everything went normal. So there're 2 major forks of bitcoin network. How will we decide? Which one is legit chain? Both of them looks legit.

Possible solutions:
- Major mining farms should use secondary internet connection such as satellite connection. Which can be blocked by governments. But it's not affected (or minimally affected) by natural catastrophes.
That's why I support jgarzik's "bitcoin satellite project" [3]. Even if governments ban satellite connections which is provided by gov controlled ISP's; Personal satellite internet dishes can connect bitcoin satellites. There's a catch here, jgarzik's satellites will provide only blockchain (to distribute accepted blocks) they're not gonna be used for broadcasting block candidates.

You pose a very interesting question, and I think there are many things we need to consider in order to come up with a solution to this.
Some are the duration of the power down and the transactions - in both chains.
Also, if the Chinese mining operations know about it, will they continue to mine?

If they do, ultimately (and as expected) the Chinese chain will have the longest chain and will win once connection to the rest of the world has been established.

1451  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 17-year-old Bitcoiner faces prison for tweeting about... You guessed it! Bitcoin on: June 12, 2015, 06:28:42 AM
Full blown police state is coming.. God damn there isn't a single fucking place on this earth you can go and be free from oppression..

That is so true...
Confirmed by Edward Snowden too.

I do have one question:
How comes all of these groups that oppose or are against the U.S. keep using american social media to tweet or whatever?
1452  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Russian Central Bank changed stance on bitcoin and might make it legal on: June 12, 2015, 06:21:41 AM
You know what they say.....
If you can't beat them, join them Wink

Besides, there are many Russian miners which have quite a bit of a share in the overall hashing power.
And let us not forget those who "hide" their dollars and rubles in BTC Wink

1454  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCard makes the case that it’s safer and faster than Bitcoin! LOL on: June 11, 2015, 07:16:12 AM
Is Mastercard also safer and faster than USD?

what you're talking about, mastercard is just the circuit, on which fiat travels through, they should've point their finger to the blockchain instead of bitcoin, because that's the right comparison between mastercard/visa and bitcoin world

That is indeed true.
The are pointing at Bitcoin because it is decentralized and they cannot manipulate/control it.
So they try to pass regulations to it.
1455  Economy / Economics / Re: What awaits Bitcoin in the future? (poll) on: June 11, 2015, 07:08:23 AM
Bitcoin will change the financial world. Bitcoin have great potential. That's ok

But I am not really sure about the price is increasing

If you believe in the first 2 statements then there shoudn't be any reason for you not to believe that the price will increase.
The price will increase eventually.
Don't forget that there is a limited supply of only 21M in existence ever.
Deduct the 1M speculated to be owned by Satoshi and you have 20M coins.
There is also the one that hodl loads of it (https://bitinfocharts.com/top-100-richest-bitcoin-addresses.html)
So, like I said, the price will increase eventually.
We just need to be patient  and hodl Wink
1456  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to Silk Road 2.0 founder Blake Benthall? on: June 11, 2015, 06:54:26 AM
Funny how we hear about Ross Ulbricht almost daily .. but total silence on the fate of Blake Benthall, the founder of silk road 2.0 .. any news on this guy??

Ross is the first to create an online black market, so like Bitcoin he is more famous than others.
Didn't Blake buy Silk Road 2.0 from someone named defcon?

He was arrested last November. When he was arrested, he more or less immediately confessed to running Silk Road2 so the chances are that he is trying to work out some kind of deal and as a result there are likely going to be less pre-trial motions filed.

So my guess is that he will receive a slightly lenient prison sentence when compared to Ross Ullbricht? May be he'll get 20 years or 30 years in jail and he'll be out in 15. And I don't know for sure whether SR 2.0 was a honeypot or not. But the security was extremely bad, and a lot of vendor accounts were getting hacked there.

How comes the security was that bad?
Wasn't SR 2.0 a clone of SR 1.0?
1457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MasterCard makes the case that it’s safer and faster than Bitcoin! LOL on: June 11, 2015, 06:41:23 AM
If MasterCard is safer and faster than Bitcoin, why are they pushing for regulation? They should have nothing to worry about.

I understand that most members of the forum disagree with what MasterCard said, but I will agree with them, up to a point.
To elaborate, they are safer for the average Joe to use and they are definitely faster for the average Joe to use.

That is their only advantages over Bitcoin (for the moment).

And they are pushing for regulation because they own the law.
Do you have any idea how much money they spend to keep the engine well oiled up?
1458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin paper wallet safe to dump bitcoins ? on: June 08, 2015, 06:07:45 AM
Paper wallets are considered by most people as the safest option.

To make it even safer you could:
Use a computer that has never been and never will be online.
Use a brand new USB stick.
Use a disposable printer (optional).

Make the USB stick bootable with any OS of your choice.
Create a Multisig address.
Print or write down the private key and address.
Destroy and properly dispose the USB stick and the printer.

You should be pretty safe with that.
1459  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How greedy you are ? on: June 07, 2015, 10:13:06 AM
The only winners are the people that don't gamble.

More or less everything in life is a gamble.
You take your chances and hope it works out.
The real trick behind it is to know when to call it quits, hopefully while your still winning.
1460  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The MOST COMPREHENSIVE LIST of potential Satoshi candidates on: June 07, 2015, 10:03:49 AM
Can I ask why Variety Jones is on the list?
He was a cannabis seeds seller on Silk Road, and apparently Ross Ulbright's mentor.

How did speculate that he could be Satoshi?
