1461  Other / Meta / Re: Another "Thanks Merit For This Rank Up" Thread on: April 29, 2018, 05:45:34 AM
Merit has always been a good incentive to the quality posts made by members. Now we can easily spot a spammer or a shitposter since he would be struck in the default airdrop merit which he has received. You have been one of the top merit receivers and waiting for your activity to reach the 250 limit to become a Sr.Member. I do rarely post 1-2 posts per day and read a lot so that I won't be forced to post a poor quality post. I have been running a similar merit campaign when I had handful of merits but it was overtaken by spammers. Moreover there are around 20 smerits to be shared by me, but I am hodling them for Joe's participants in his signatureless challenge. Thanks for the giveaway and hearty congratulations for your ranking up and here is my submission. I pretty feel that one of my old thread was good for you read and decide upon. If you feel anything to be added to the thread, can you mention them!

1462  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Criminals and Bitcoin on: April 28, 2018, 04:20:38 PM
Shouldn't this question be posted on Discussion board? This question has nothing to do with Technical Discussion.Use the Move Topic button on the bottom left of your thread to move the topic.

Coming to your question, even fiat money are being used in illegal trades. It's certainly very difficult to track the line of transactions during a theft. Most of them use mixing services for mixing their coins and make them untraceable.
1463  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Protect your coins and buy a hardware wallet on: April 26, 2018, 02:34:36 AM
Hijacking of DNS servers are nothing to do with the exposing of private keys. If one was careful while visiting the mew site, it would not have been a problem. The users were redirected to a phishing site, but they too can be identified with the certificate of mew and can be found as scam. I suggest not to login to mew just to watch your balance. Use etherscan to check the balances.

Users who are not careful with their private keys also lose one when they use a hard wallet too. Though hard wallets are really secure, losing your keys or wallet will make you exposed and all your coins would be lost.
1464  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best book/articles to understand Bitcoin, Blockchain and why it is the future? on: April 25, 2018, 06:40:07 PM
I joined this forum because of the topic, I too will like to know more about block chain and the reason why it is the future. Any help please?
In simple terms, block chain is a growing list of digital records for any assets we would like to store. For example, it's simply like a notebook kept in a supermarket to keep track of all the expenses happening in a day. You will buy some goods from the market for a fixed amount, your transaction similar to others are stored in a block and are secured by cryptography making them decentralized and accessible all over the network.
Blockchain is as good as it can be implemented in our day to day lives for even the simplest transaction we make. They can be used in banking,  medical and other sectors.

However when considering blockchain digital currencies come to picture which could change the future economy and how we handle our assets. Blockchain helps in reducing scams, decentralization etc.
1465  Economy / Speculation / Re: Back to $6000 in 3... 2... 1... on: April 25, 2018, 04:35:22 PM
11000$ was something meant to be seen in the future, but now the price is not in a steady state. But currently, we believe it won't go below 3000$ ever. There was a higher rise in price to 20k and there was a huge backlash back to 5k and its getting stable in the 5k number for a longer period. Similarly, the price soar to the moon and it fell and stabilized. I don't think this is a stock market to play with our money to buy at lower price and sell at higher price. It's a digital currency which at some time might revolutionize the world economy.

When those Bounty Hunters come across your thread!  Grin

This forum is dead due to the insane bawnty hunters registering and spamming to the core for 50-100$. We will never get back a clean forum as it was, until bawnty hunters leave this forum or the whole lot of Btc and Alt Discussion boards are moved to Trashcan.

Ah,is it Bounty or Bawnty? Most of the shitposters spell them as Bawnty!   Grin Grin

EDIT : Meme is spell checked  Cheesy
1467  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin cash has been the only successful fork? on: April 23, 2018, 05:52:07 PM
I don't believe in hard forks either. All those forks have a shorter shorter life span when compared to the mainstream currencies like btc and eth. Cash is popular as it is the first kind of fork and some solves some of the block size debate by introducing a higher blocksize.

Gold just reintroduce the vision of satoshi by introducing a decentralized mining. Nowadays mining pools are shifting to more of a centralized system, but the reintroduction of gpu mining might shift them back to decentralized system. Rest of the forks are some kind of shits which have failed miserably due to they are not being accepted by population.

In simple terms, cash is successful because of solving some problems in btc network and gold might be successful in future because of decentralized gpu mining.
1468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Common Beginners' Misconceptions on: April 22, 2018, 08:12:55 AM
Misconception #11. Bitcointalk is a money making area where we can spam with silly answers and earn shit tons of dollars. Wrong.

As I dig into this forum a lot nowadays, I understand that this was one of the finest forums for the development and other technical stuffs unless those fu**ing shitposters started making some money by spamming this wonderful place. Lots of developments happened in this forum and lots of crypto terms like HODL, POS were introduced in this.

* It was a place where an idea flourished for Vitalik and other people to start their own cryptocurrency

* It was a place where the first real world transaction for btc took place with Laszlo buying pizzas

And a lot more. I am wondering when would those old days come back.  Undecided

Though this is not a misconception about BTC, it is a common misconception by a newbie who joins here.
1469  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is exactly POS? on: April 22, 2018, 06:54:20 AM
Do you know bitcointalk is a great place where lots of ideas flourished for cryptocurrency ecosystem in olden days! POS was first discussed in this forum a long time back here

Since this question has been moved to Altcoin Discussion, you won't be receiving any good replies as spammers float here with shit posts.

1. I know it is give more chance of block mining to users that has more coins.
(example : If some user A has 5% of coins of total supply, that user has more 5% chance to mine new block than other users)
Is this right?
Probably. A holder of 5% of coins can mine 5% of POS block. In simple terms for one to mine a POS block, the miner need to sign a POW block in the sequence of 5 randomly selected keys. When he signs for the fifth time, he mines a POS block. When the miner signs for the fifth time, he needed to generate his own block without any POW submissions. This particular block created is called as a POS block

2-2. If 2 is wrong, then if no mining occur in POS coin, then how transaction confirmed?

For mining to continue,

* We all know that a POW block is created every 10 minutes in the network.

* Once for all the miner finds a valid block, he broadcasts them to the network. If the work is regarded true, then the block is announced in the network. The five signatures signs the hash and transmit to the network. After the signature sequence is complete, the 5th signature publish the POW and POS block.

As far I have understood POS system, I have explained them in simple terms. My understanding may even be wrong.
1470  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are private keys and mnemonic code one to one? on: April 21, 2018, 02:38:50 AM
According to https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Private_key#Range_of_valid_ECDSA_private_keys, not all 2256 bits numbers are valid private keys, what about mnemonic phrases?
According to BIP39 standards, we can use around 2048 words to generate a mnemonic key. For us to generate a 12 word key pair the combinations could range between 204812 which could be simplified to 2132 and the mnemonic would eventually have 132 bits of security. But due to some randomness, the security could be around 128 bits which is equal to a private key security.

But generating a word yourself from the 2048 lists is pretty dangerous when security is concerned. Allow your wallet to work for you. For a complete understanding of BIP39 conventions you may read this
1471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should I start ICO? on: April 20, 2018, 05:25:35 PM
Unless you are a good dev and your project is very much different from the one's available in the market, don't start an ICO. Nowadays ICO scams are increasing at an enormous rate and your project might end up becoming one if you didn't implement it properly. Why an ICO to play with people's money? Start your own coin which has it's own blockchain and mine them and give an announcement and see if any miners can help you.

If your coin has a good technology it might become one among the top currencies. There are lots of lots of tokens coming out on eth blockchain and each day someone or other dies out. So, you should not create a token or go for an ICO unless you are sure about your project!
1472  Other / Meta / Re: @Admins: Merit not working as configured, trolls just don't care (no surprise) on: April 19, 2018, 08:07:04 AM
If those bounty participants earn a lot from posting in this forum, why should they not pay a fee for each post. Hero, Sr, Full members who has not even received 10 merits in the span of 3 months must not be allowed to wear signatures. If such a system is implemented, we would be free of shitposting Sr and Full members. Most probably, Hero and Legendary guys are the one who joined the forum in the timeframe of 2014-15, so most of them would have signed up for learning something and earning. But 2017 era was the worst part were all those Third World shits created an account, spammed and became Sr and Full members.

Why a low rank member should pay higher fees than a High ranked one?
There are some shitposters in Legendary too.

Not in favour of this at all to be honest, I learnt a lot from this forum & people like achow saved my ass from losing dozens of bitcoin with personal help. I don’t think paying to post here is a good idea, sorry.
I requested for a   Altcoin Technical Discussion board for saving Alt holders to retrieve their money back. I am not a dev to help those guys who are seeking for help out their in the Alt board. It could help those guys from the insane amount of spams generated in the Alt Discussion board. But I didn't get a positive reply and bumping the thread.  Undecided
1473  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are there bitcoin QR code pos machine? on: April 18, 2018, 03:31:05 AM

But are there no ways of store can also provide/include specific BTC amount as well with store's address QR code?

Or store should make customer know how much BTC they need to pay?

Yes, the stores can store the amount of btc for a specific piece of item and this can be done by coinbox I think so, but sadly it has been abandoned. You can even try bitpay or similar other software. Not so sure about it, but it can be done and people can pay for the item by scanning the code.
1474  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Verge Coins Stuck in paper Wallet on: April 17, 2018, 04:47:42 PM
I have just been on the Verge website. I typed in my key and pressed validate and nothing happened. If I change the first letter to my key to a 5 it says it is not a valid Verge Key. After this i retyped my original key in again and clicked validate and again nothing happens. No loading, nothing stating my key is wrong it just does nothing.
Hey mate! Don't change your keys to 5 or something similar. Let it be 6 and the 51 char key. Type the 51 char key with 6K as start chars. What do you mean by nothing happens? If we type a wrong key we receive the following message,

Quote
The text you entered does not appear to be a private Verge key.
Did you receive the message?

For example I generate a private key for reference : 6JtSC8N5t2rGNx3aCkYoAg34xeTr5iHGGS9hzg3Lk6ZWJ3EJB6L
Private key WIF compressed : QRx2C7W4YFASssxMYsDLmhJ8UcMVdoCnP81RwZKL9DYUJ7uvvgeJ

Copy this and paste in the code, and you might get access to your wallet only if the keys are right!

1475  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Verge Coins Stuck in paper Wallet on: April 17, 2018, 01:57:12 PM
Possible solution to your problem:

I am writing this assuming that you have created your paper wallet in vergecurrency paper wallet generator.

1. You might have encrypted your Private key using a pass phrase during the Christmas. This is a type of format which the wallets don't understand. Your private key need to be a WIF/BIP38 format to sweep the coins off.

Go to vergecurrency website which I stated below and enter your private key in Validate/Decrypt tab. Then enter the password which you entered during the creation. You will get a WIF compressed key, copy them and paste in the code.

2. You need to try out this website where you have created your wallet : http://vergecurrency.com/paper-wallet/

Here just press the Validate/Decrypt Tab. Enter your private key which starts with 6K. Once you have done press validate. Once it's done you will be presented with various formats of your private key for example WIF (compressed), Hexadecimal or Base64 mini Private key. Just copy the WIF compressed which starts Q and paste the key in the code which I gave in the above first post of mine. This might solve your problem.

3. You might be using an older version of your wallet in desktop. At sometime this might even create a problem to sweep your paper wallet. Reinstall your wallet and just try to import the private key without conversion.

4. If none of the above mentioned solutions have worked out, you might have written the key wrongly.

Use paper wallet storage only when you are holding your coins long term. They are too cumbersome to transfer your coins at a faster rate.
1476  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Verge Coins Stuck in paper Wallet on: April 16, 2018, 06:20:04 PM
The private key you have entered might be right. But, as far my reading, Coinomi can sweep the funds from a wallet which has their private keys in the WIF or in Mini formats. Hence you need to convert them to wif in order to sweep your coins. I may even be wrong,

For the desktop wallet have you used this code?

Code:
importprivkey yourPrivateKeyInWalletImportFormat
1477  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a separate board for .....? on: April 14, 2018, 02:52:57 PM
I think the title could have been more specific. It does look a bit like aanother of those repeated requests that appear in Meta.
At last thanks for starting the discussion. Yes the title was a blunder Grin Changed it.

I liked the idea so I did a quick search on all of the altcoin boards (with "I need help" keyword) and found the following:

- Most users posted their questions on each of the respective altcoins pages/threads
- Only few did actually create a new thread regarding their issues

Perhaps, that's why such board doesn't exist (since the ann threads also act as a technical support thread).
These users regret to post in the Discussion board as they fear of their questions left unanswered in the spam board. You can see that a user here posted the question as a topic and since he didn't receive any answers he posted in the ANN thread

Anyone knows how to start Byteball and route everything through Tor? I want to check my balances. The last time I checked, it was when the airdrop rewards got dropped a lot, which was when I linked my BTC on there. The reward was honestly so low that I didn't bother to check it again. I want to see what kind of interest it has generated since then. I think it was last august.

I made a thread asking about this but im afraid is going to get buried with 0 replies.
Some members bump their threads 2-3 times in the Discussion Board and they didn't get any replies nor I can't help them as it was too technical which a dev can only answer. But a separate board for the Technical Support can help people a lot I think so.

Well i guess just rename the Altcoin Discussion board to Altcoin Technical Support & Discussion will do the work.
Renaming would never solve the problem. I suggest some users who are seeking replies for their Bitcoin Technical Topics to post in the Bitcoin Discussion Thread and let us see what response they get from the veteran devs. For instance if theymos  removes Bitcoin Technical Discussion board for 1 day and see how members suffer for the questions and answers.
Another instance where Jet Cash itself posted for assistance in the Technical Support board and he immediately received a reply. Check this here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3216751.msg33441143#msg33441143
1478  Other / Meta / Re: Can we have a separate board for .....? on: April 14, 2018, 02:50:36 AM
Have I given the wrong title? I think people would have thought this as a  Language request board and denied them to go through them. If this had been a so called Merit thread then the people would have rushed to comment through them...
1479  Other / Meta / Can we have a separate board for Altcoin Technical Support & Discussion ? on: April 13, 2018, 01:46:40 PM
As days passes by, btc and other cryptos are raising in popularity day by day. Hence this forum is growing at an exponential rate where the number of registrations are increasing! Bitcoin Discussion and Altcoin Discussion is a pure spam area where people are commenting shit and gaining some post count and increasing their activity to meet the demands of the minimum posts for signature campaigns. Though genuine users who has a good knowledge in crypto are using the technical discussion board to  answer for technical questions.

Some of the members create an account here in this forum since they have somehow lost their wallet keys or to ask some technical questions regarding bitcoin and they get a positive technical assistance from technical veterans like Danny Hamilton, achow101 etc. One can see that newbies creates an account, ask for a help in Technical Support/Discussion and gets replied positively and leaves the forum that his coins were restored or he got the perfect answer for the long lasting question in his mind.

The same happens in altcoins too... Here too newbies create a topic for the sole purpose of getting technical assistance for regaining their keys or replies to their technical questions etc. But most of the topics doesn't receive a single reply and it eventually gets buried in spams and they leave the forum without their problem being solved. It is pretty tough to read some decent technical replies to questions in Altcoin Discussion and some questions are even left unanswered...There are some good devs in the forum who can help the people out their seeking help for their altcoins, but since the board is filled up with spams, devs not even care to visit those boards.

Some members may comment in this particular topic that this is not a altcoin forum to create such a board, but as you see that alts are growing pretty fast and the most commented board here in the forum is Altcoin (Announcement) board and Top 3 boards are occupied by altcoins...

Hence can a board be created in the altcoin subforum for "Altcoin Technical Support & Discussion"?

I quoted them just for better viewing, not for anything else  Grin.

I read the server specs somewhere in the official blog of PIRL coin sometime back.

Ah! May be here it is. Tongue
