701  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: two gambling games that are players favorite on: January 02, 2020, 08:57:24 PM
After going through most of the replies in this topic, people tend to quite commonly say about their own favorites but the OP is all about either card game or dice game is favorite among the two  Roll Eyes People doesn't seem to read the topic but only the topic title and tend to post here  Tongue

Dice is always dependable on the casino and they do have higher chances of making us lose all our investments in gambling. Though they are easier to learn, they have far lesser chances to win/wager large sums of money or mastering the strategy through which we can win. They are based on the programmaility of the casino and how well they are trustworthy. If we were to go for a trustworthy casino, you would have fair chance of winning when the multiplier is being minimized but it doesn't sound the same when we were in a scam casino. Dice are a better way of losing our money but they are the ones which attract the new players to the gambling industry.

Whereas Cards can be influenced with our strategies and our prior gambling experience. If we played cards for a longer time period, we would literally know the base of playing the game and mastering the strategy in winning the game in a longer run. If it comes for choosing between Cards and Dice while introducing it to the new gamblers I would go for Card instead of Dice based gambling games.
702  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So how exactly will the halving of bitcoin block reward benefit bitcoin. on: January 02, 2020, 07:53:38 PM
I have double thoughts on the halving event and the halving might either increase the price as like in the history of the prices or might slump down to the bottom. As AdolfinWolf said, bitcoin is deflationary rather than the common fiat currencies which are more or less inflationary. Deflation i.e the reducing of the mined bitcoin from 12.5BTC to 6.25BTC has various impacts on the miners, traders and the common users of bitcoin.

Speaking from a miner's perspective, they would sell some of their holding btc to pay for the electricity as blocks generate half less than what they were used to in these 4 years. This sudden halving of btc, will probably dump the prices as miners would be selling off some of their holding btcs.

Speaking from a traders FOMO perspective, many tend to hold their btc and would sell them at a higher prices. For the past 2 halving events, the prices dumped initially half way through and gradually rised multi-folds. We can very well infer that, miners should be selling their btc initially for paying the additional electricity charges and traders later trading them to increase the prices. 2013 & 2017 FOMO market was completely driven off with hype and both these market conditions reached the saturation point when the new traders left the game after selling off well below for what they have bought after incurring a loss.

I believe bitcoin as a decentralized digital currency for making payments rather than a trading mechanism, get-rich-quick-scheme or a digital gold kind of thing. When the global population starts following this trend in mainstream instead of trading, that would be the perfect ideal time we would be watching the true potential of bitcoin price. FOMOs and other bullshits are completely dangerous for long term if bitcoin is considered as a currency.

We can consider a simple example or a real time scenario from a miner's perspective,

#1

For all this time miners would have been receiving 12.5BTC and let us consider on an average 4320 blocks are mined each month (24hrs*30 days*6(each hour has six 10 minute interval)) and with the current btc prices miners receive a fair share of 54000 bitcoins which when sold yields a total of $37,63,72,440 (I have not taken tx fees into considerations).

Halving Period : 2016-2020
Total Blocks mined per month : 4320 [24 hours * 30 days * 6]
Total Bitcoins mined : 54000

#2

With the halving coming into practice, they would receive a fair share of only $18,81,86,220 which is quite lesser to pay their electricity. Either they would be waiting for the prices to rise up or would dump the market with their prior mined bitcoins.

Halving Period : 2020-2024
Total Blocks mined per month : 4320
Total Bitcoins mined : 27000 at the rate of 6.25BTC per block
703  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Amount Of Available Dice Rolls Per Day on: January 02, 2020, 06:05:20 PM
..snip...
Very true. Gambling always work such that if the players know what amount they are playing for and what they can afford to lose, then they would always face the thrills regardless of either winning or losing the game. I always don't really speak in favor of multiplier games as they might be one of the better ways to lose all our savings provided if we have won a significant amount by gambling.

For instance, if you have won a game in gambling and provided the winnings are quite good dice/multiplier are based on the luck and there is no strategy involved in winning the game. We would lose the game if we certainly have a bad luck, and we shouldn't play the dice game with higher amount of btc always.
704  Local / India / Re: [GREAT INDIAN RAFFLE] #1 - Game On until bitcoin in escrow lasts - Win 0.001 btc on: January 02, 2020, 04:05:58 PM
OP has been updated to reflect the latest spots. Only 6 more spots remaining until we roll with a block.

...snip...
Hello ragavancoin, Thank You for showing interest in participating. Since you were the winner of Speculation Game your month for re-entering the raffle is on June 2020. We are quite a small community and hence I have implemented this rule, as everyone of us will get a spot in these limited slot raffles.

Just wanted to show my support in this initiative. This thread just stumbled in-front of me and it's a great initiative to bring a community together.
Thank You very much for supporting this initiative Royse777. This board and with the community has been long dormant and with the government playing a bad move in minimizing the usage of cryptocurrencies, the whole board was quite inactive and was dominated with spammers. These raffles are a way to bring additional interest in the community and we would like to thank micg for donating the amount to the escrow and thereby making these raffles even more interesting.

Can I sponsor your 10th round (assuming you are going to continue periodically)?
If you have that round then just PM me the winner of the round with their Bitcoin address. I will send the prize.
Thank You for being quite generous and helping us. As of now, we have sufficient funds to run the raffles for over a year and if we are in need at the end of December 2020, you can help us with this. Either way, this is quite a long term process and I am sure we would be seeing increasing interest in the upcoming days and I do hope more newbies would be contributing to this board over a longer term. Halving is arriving and we are preparing for another major horde of shitposters to arrive with the price rise and our members would subsequently change the minds of shitposters to contribute positively.

PS: I wish I could join but your term is against me :-D

By the way, how are you going to know that someone is from your country for sure.
Sorry to know that you can not join here ATM.

That's quite a difficult job to be honest. There are Indian board posters which everyone of us here are aware of but if someone new jumps into this board/raffle topic out of nowhere I would be going through their post history which might reveal their country or the language they speak. We conducted Speculation Game a month back for celebrating the 10th bitcointalk anniversary and there were other country shitposters trying to join the game and to weed out profits. I can speak some very basic Español but that doesn't make me a guy hailing from Spanish background and that's how these work actually.  Grin

Thanks again for showing support to this initiative.  Smiley

...snip...
Based on your earlier posts, you were really informative and we need new posters like you who could contribute for the betterment of this community. But that's upto you to either join or leave the raffle. The spot has still been reserved to you and if you are not really willing you can leave the game and can join in the February raffle.
705  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Uninstall compiled Bitcoin in linux on: January 01, 2020, 08:41:18 PM
Uninstalling bitcoin client in any linux based system is similar to uninstalling a program in linux which you have built from source. Generally users of linux use make install and they were the ones which was mentioned in the bitcoin build notes as you have been trying to build bitcoin from source.

Wait, I've compiled it again and it shows up at (Bitcoin source code)/src/qt. I've did make install and now I have Bitcoin full node complete with GUI on my PC!

But instead of make install you could try using checkinstall. checkinstall command will make the installation and un-installation easier by creating deb packages. See wiki for checkinstall command : CheckInstall

Uninstalling older bitcoin client in Linux can be done using the following command :

Code:
sudo make uninstall or make uninstall
706  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Amount Of Available Dice Rolls Per Day on: January 01, 2020, 08:01:31 PM
I literally do have a bad opinion on these dice games since they are one of the better ways to lose money in gambling even though you play well by adopting certain strategies. Dice Games are programmed in such a way that for majority of the time they do favor the casino and will eventually make you lose the game or satoshis to the gambling company.

On the other hand, I strongly agree with Darker45 and crwth post that most of the casinos do offer an infinite roll per day but those are completely dependent on how much balance you have left in your wallet etc. Dice and Gambling on a general basis are one of the easiest ways to lose all your hard earned money and if you are willing to lose your hard earned money you could go with any of these casinos mentioned above. For instance if your gambling dice bot plays for you and if you have set the multiplier to 1.5x and still you bet for 0.5 btc and further if the bet is lost, you will lose 0.5 btc and you won't be allowed to proceed with the game.

These rolls are upto you and are completely dependent on the wallet balances, your network response speed etc and AFAIK they are not based on the casinos.
707  Local / India / Re: [GREAT INDIAN RAFFLE] #1 - Game On until bitcoin in escrow lasts - Win 0.001 btc on: January 01, 2020, 06:57:40 PM
Thanks for kicking off the raffle everyone... 5 spots have been filled up and only 11 are up for grabs!

PS: If this wins i would like to add the amount for the escrow wallet to keep this running so that every member wins.
That's so kind and generous of you SaShiRaJaVu. Thank You  Smiley

Based on Melloiga's previous post, they do seem to be a promising poster in Indian board. Welcome and let's try to change our local board to one among the better local boards prevailing here already. Benson has done so much to the Indian bitcoin economy and also to this local board in particular and we shouldn't let this board rot in the hands of spammers, scammers and translation abusers.  Smiley

Keep the entries rolling in...

GREAT INDIAN RAFFLES #1

"A decentralized digital currency is a pathway to many abilities, our government considered it to be unnatural."
Quotes from a galaxy far, far away...

Happy New Year everyone!

To engage the community even more and as a token of appreciation to all the Indian forum members who are making this board a delightful place to stay even during the adverse Bitcoin conditions prevailing in India, I would like to launch these Raffles which will run for the whole year in terms of monthly events.

Raffle :

1. This is a pretty simple and quite interesting game, where there would be 16 spots from 0-9 and a-f. Each person should pick one character and post in the reply of this topic along with their bitcoin address.

2. Once all the 16 spots are filled, I will choose one single future block to be mined. For instance person X has chosen 'f' as their spot and I have chosen block #610750. Here the hash of the block #610750 is 0000000000000000000e7027f650de1e79d76cbe93f385d8032f7766df080f6f which determines that f is the winning character.

3. The person who has chosen the correct character wins the prize amount of 0.001BTC (Please note that 0.001BTC is kinda cheaper but in terms of our economy it costs around 500 INR which is much better)

As per rules, they are mostly the same as followed in the speculation game topic

Rules :

1. Raffles are strictly restricted only to Indian forum members. If you are someone outside India or hailing from nearby countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan or Sri Lanka, you are not allowed to participate in the raffle.

2. Previous Raffle Winners cannot participate in the upcoming raffles for 6 months. Let us give others a chance to win some bitcoins. You can consider this 6 months as a cooling period like if some X has won the raffle in January, they can participate only in the August Raffle.
This rule is applicable for Speculation Game winner as well. Our local community is so small such that I have reduced the period to 6 months. If in future, we rise up to one of the most populated local boards I might change the rule such that the raffle winners cannot participate in the upcoming raffle for over a year.

3. There are 16 spots and only 1 slot per person is allowed and more importantly I cannot give you any random spots. Once I have updated the slot in OP, there is no changing of slot numbers. Please see to the filled spots in OP/ have an eye on picked up spots by others before posting your slot number in reply.

4. Newbies are allowed to participate, but you shouldn't have made your first post in this topic and You might have been a old guy but isn't really an active poster.

5. This topic is only for playing the game and all the other discussions and doubts regarding the raffle or future game ideas should be posted only in the Indian Raffle Discussion topic.

6. Bounty Hunters are not allowed to participate in the raffle. Even though if you are from India, the board doesn't need bounty hunters who are chiming here only for profits or earning money from this forum.

Spots :

0 - SaShiRaJaVu
1 - 100bitcoin
2 - hacker1001101001
3 - akhjob
4 - Lender
5 - Clement Kaliyar
6 - webtricks
7 - RapTarX
8 - sureshnsnet
9 - manav24

709  Economy / Speculation / Re: Speculation LIST involving the "HALVING" !!! on: December 30, 2019, 08:14:25 PM
I like the o_e_l_e_o 's suggestion in spreading out the $50 boxes like ranges and partially like bitserve's post as well. The participants picks up the ranges and it would be quite simple since majority of the participants never choose a single price range with $50 difference actually.

Regarding the second rule, 25-50 earned merits should be implemented and along with that a new rule like Bounty Spammers Hunters aren't allowed to participate in the game should be implemented with that. These spammers were never really helpful for this forum and would never likely be helpful in a longer run or would help in building a better stronger community. They roam around various corners of this forum hunting for money and shouldn't really be allowed to participate in these sorts of events.

I do urge on the implementation of this rule because, during the early days of merit system many of these spammers have traded merits with others and have easily gained those 25 merits which would certainly become an easier way for them to join this game.
710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Running nodes on linux on: December 30, 2019, 07:41:47 PM
As OmegaStarScream pointed out, you could better go with Ubuntu or a simple Tails OS as well. Ubuntu is one of the best newbie friendly Linux based operating system out in the market and on top of that they do have 'Personal Package Archives'. I have been using Ubuntu for quite a long time and I am really pleased with the newbie-friendly feel it does provide to the new Linux users.

The major problem with using a Tails OS for running a full node is that it makes us to download the blockchain again since disconnecting from the host does make the Tails OS to erase all the older memories it has stored. FreeBSD is a better option for you to run the native client and I guess the BSD comes with a bitcoind package in the repository (though I am not really sure about this)

Once you get used to the Linux based OS quite often, I recommend you to try with Arch Linux. These OS are mostly used by Developers and advanced Linux users and they do offer a pretty good security when comparing with other Linux based operating systems. Linux Mint acts as a perfect alternative to Ubuntu OS but either way its really good to start off with Ubuntu. I personally have been using Ubuntu and WSL in Windows 10 and have been compiling Core for over a year and I would recommend the same for you as well.

Hey akhjob, Thanks for showing interest in these initiatives always. Please do note that this topic is a discussion topic rather than a being a raffle topic. This topic will serve as a topic where we can discuss about these raffles, future ideas of this board and other ways of improving the population of this board etc.

Rather the first raffle topic will be created only on January 1st and the rest of the month raffles will be created on a particular date which commemorates one of the important events in bitcoin history. Sorry for not mentioning this prior in the OP.  Smiley
712  Other / Meta / Re: [Merits Giveaway]2019 in review. A big thanks to many forum users. on: December 29, 2019, 09:08:53 PM
Fillippone, Heisenberg_Hunter & cabalism13, (for been my pals & motivators)
And I still remember you being in 150 merits and how you really became knowledgeable in the forum over the period of one year.

Its been 10 years since this forum was created and right from the beginning of my registration I admired many of the old accounts in this forum and how good they were in their knowledge, forum aspects etc. Some made me to realize how generous one could be in an online forum and some had special mentions in my book of records. I had never ventured into collectibles space last year but somehow made into it this year at the start and that was one such thing which will be remembered forever whenever I visit this forum.

BitcoinPenny - The first person on this forum I have traded with and have sent my money first before receiving goods. Their piece of collectible coins were outstanding, beautiful and that made me to buy more and more collectible stuffs. They have taught me how generous one should be when it comes to this forum and they have proved the same by giving away some coins designed specially for a forum member who was dead.

erikalui - They have helped me in bringing out fake translators and with their help our whole local board is back from being dead. The board has regained the state of sensible discussions and has become one of the better local boards without a moderator!

chronicsky - Another collector from whom I have learned a lot regarding collectibles and other stuffs related to bitcoin in general. They have always encouraged me in bringing out new initiatives to the local board from behind the scenes. These were really important in paving a better local community.

micgoossens - Very generous and the one who helped us in upliftment of our local board by donating funds.

krogothmanhattan - One who introduces collectibles in the form of daily raffles to newbies...  Cheesy

Each and every Technical Support board poster - Without them, the very purpose of this forum would become meaningless. satoshi created this forum to discuss about bitcoin and to help newbie users if they have any problem in using bitcoin. This forum was not created for online political fights/scamming for bitcoin etc. I would always be thankful for them and I am honored to be a minor part in the Technical Support board (not so recently).

98 merit sources and generous merit givers - Without you people, we can never distinguish good posters from shitposters and good posts from bad posts.

All scam hunters and DT members - Since the forum is related to money, DT members and scam hunters are the ones who act as the police and prevent people from losing money for scams.

Lastly theymos and Cirius - While the latter is a silent Ninja working behind the scenes, theymos is the one who keeps running the forum smoothly for all these years.

This community has got so much of worthy users to mention (LoyceV, o_e_l_e_o, Ddmrddmr, fillippone, suchmoon, welsh, nullius, mickeywith, steamtyme,The Pharmacist, Jet Cash, TMAN, hilariousandco, mprep, Mr. Big, minerjones, brainboss etc etc) and a single post isn't sufficient!

Happy Holidays and have a great year ahead!

GREAT INDIAN RAFFLES

"A decentralized digital currency is a pathway to many abilities, our government considered it to be unnatural."
Quotes from a galaxy far, far away...

To engage the community even more and as a token of appreciation to all the Indian forum members who are making this board a delightful place to stay even during the adverse Bitcoin conditions prevailing in India, I would like to launch these Raffles which will run for the whole year in terms of monthly events no matter what. At present the escrow wallet consists of 0.012BTC and the amount will be divided for 12 months and these raffles would continue forever until people stop donating to the escrow wallet. When the escrow wallet reaches the saturation stage, the raffles would stop and would continue again when the wallet fills up.

Raffle :

1. The raffle will be hosted each month (starting from January 2020) on a particular day which is of historical significance in the history of bitcoin. It might be the day when first bitcoin transaction took place, when Mt.Gox got collapsed, when there were important improvements in bitcoin economy etc. They are random dates chosen by me and if you would like to join the contest, you should be visiting the Indian board daily and have an eye on the main board for you not to miss the raffle before they get filled up.

2. The raffles consists of 16 spots, 0-9 and a-f and a member can choose only one spot. Once all the 16 spots are full, I will choose a future block to be mined and the last character of the hash determines the winner spot.

3. The winner would receive 0.001BTC which will be sent by DarkStar_ from the escrow wallet.

Rules :

If in future, we rise up to one of the most populated local boards I might change the rule such that the raffle winners cannot participate in the upcoming raffle for over a year.

3. The raffles will last until there is no amount left in the escrow wallet or if anyone of us has stopped sending the coins to that wallet.

4. There are 16 spots and only 1 slot per person is allowed and more importantly I cannot give you any random spots. Once I have updated the slot in OP, there is no changing of slot numbers. Please see to the filled spots in OP before posting your slot number in reply.

5. I do know the winning amount is quite small, but this 0.001BTC will help us to have a 3-time meal in a day in India.

6. As of now, these raffles will occur on all the months and will be conducted on one particular day of the month in which there was a major bitcoin event in history. The first raffle will start on 1st January 2020 and will occur on all months till bitcoins in the wallet gets emptied up.

7. Newbies are allowed to participate, but you shouldn't have made your first post in this topic and You might have been a old guy but isn't really an active poster.

8. Bounty Hunters are not allowed to participate in the raffle. Even though if you are from India, the board doesn't need bounty hunters who are chiming here only for profits or earning money from this forum.

I have been in another online community for over 7 years and had never experienced such a love or connectivity before and I would like to thank everyone who are making this forum really a good place to visit daily and let's all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

So I have been reading some topic in Trading Discussion and got through this topic : Technical Overview Of Ledger Wallet The newbie's post was far better and was really good to be merited. Made a plagiarism check before getting further to meriting them. Here is what I found and does this fall under the category of plagiarism along with text spinning?
