1481  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: November 07, 2022, 07:28:09 AM
I don't know what is doing on with Manchester United. One week they play really well and win, the other week they are totally mediocre.
Ronaldo can't be the only reason for this. There are 10 players on the field, not one player. Ronaldo can't win the games by himself. Maybe he is done with big football. It's time for him to move into a smaller football club or just retire.
I'm really impressed with Arsenal winning against Chelsea on Stamford Bridge. Arteta somehow found the right way to achieve consistent performance from his players. Winning matches like this one is the path to the Premier League Trophy. I really hope that the Arsenal players won't suffer from the "spring curse"(having many players injured during the spring).
1482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why i believe in bitcoin!! An amateur's outlook. on: November 07, 2022, 07:00:26 AM
I didn't get a good enough explanation about why do you believe in Bitcoin. So you believe in Bitcoin only because the BTC price didn't drop against the US dollar? Many assets are performing good against the US dollar. Gold also didn't drop against USD, does that mean you believe in Gold? Grin
I understand that you are a newbie and you are taking your first steps in the crypto world. Everyone in this forum was a crypto newbie in the past. Just don't get too romantic about Bitcoin. BTC is a financial asset just like any other financial asset and getting emotionally attached might lead to making financial mistakes.
1483  Economy / Gambling / Re: Crypto raffle game idea | feedback required on: November 06, 2022, 12:35:22 PM
I'm no expert in this field, but don't you know that live streams can be pre-recorded and therefore faked?
Software like Open Broadcast Studio (OBS) can be used to such purpose. Do you remember all the scam Youtube "Bitcoin giveaway" channels with their fake pre-recorded livestreams?
I'm sorry to say this.
Your idea of an online lottery seems so generic that probably around 1000 people before you had come up with the same idea.
1.Sell 1 dollar tickets. Check.
2. Pick the lottery winner using random.org, pickerwheel, etc. Check.
3. Keep 10-20-30% of the ticket revenue for operational costs and profit. Check.
This business model simply doesn't work. So far I have never seen a truly successful online lottery. Good luck with this project.
1484  Economy / Economics / Re: TSMC says efforts to rebuild US semiconductor industry are doomed to fail on: November 06, 2022, 08:06:53 AM
I can't believe that the Americans were dumb enough to lose their advantage in chip manufacturing 30 years ago.
Taiwan now has the industrial capacity and the qualified workforce. If a small island like Taiwan was able achieve such economic miracle decades ago then the USA should be capable of rebuilding it's semiconductor industry. Saying that this is "doomed to fail" sounds way too pessimistic.
Perhaps the US chip manufacturers will have to outsource their production facilities in Mexico or Costa Rica, because of the cheap labor.
The main problem here is the US government. You can't just throw 52 billion dollars at the US companies and expect fast results.
There will be semiconductor shortages for sure and expects all electronics to become way more expensive in 2023.
1485  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto exchanges charging for inactive accounts . Do you support this ? on: November 06, 2022, 07:41:48 AM
Quote
Personally, I a against these charges and it affects the rate of crypto adoption. It discourages people from starting to use crypto. What is your opinion about this practice ?

I'm also against such "inactive account" charges, but I don't think that this would have any impact over the global crypto adoption.
Only a few crypto exchanges have such policies and I'm sure that they will change their Terms of Service, in order to keep their customers.
Imagine having a bank account and your bank suddenly starts charging you 100 USD per month only because you haven't used your bank account in one month. This seems really sketchy. The crypto industry is competitive enough and such sketchy business tricks will not be tolerated.
1486  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Interesting Poker Quotes, Gambling Proverbs And Quotes. on: November 04, 2022, 07:27:52 AM
I think that this forum thread belongs to the Gambling Discussion forum. Anyway, those are some really wise quotes and proverbs about gambling. I don't agree with the "Money won is twice as sweet as money earned" proverb. It's quite the opposite actually.
Many gamblers should read those quotes everyday.  I also like the quote "In a bet there's a fool and thief". It summarizes perfectly the current state of the sports betting industry.

1487  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin is the most Preferred Choice on: November 04, 2022, 07:03:17 AM
Quote
1. Decentralization of assets
2. No KYC required for investment
3. Digital and secured form of asset and currency
4. High profitability with less risk
5. No inflation tolerance or price manipulation

1.I'm OK with this statement, but can you show me a clear benefit of decentralization?
2. So you are saying that buying BTC doesn't require KYC? Have you ever tried to buy BTC without KYC? This seems far away from the truth.
3. This sentence sounds pretty blank to me. Are you saying that digital assets are more secure than non-digital assets? This is another wrong statement, if you ask me.
4. High profitability always comes with high risk. There's no way around this.
5. The Bitcoin price was manipulated in the past. Maybe it can be manipulated in the future. Who knows?
I'm not criticizing Bitcoin, I just want to show you that many people have false expectations about Bitcoin. Many people think that Bitcoin is a magical investment, that will make them rich overnight.
1488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling winner identity on: November 03, 2022, 11:18:44 AM
This man might be lying his wife and children for a while, but he can't keep this secret forever. Grin
I don't know if this a smart move or a dumb mistake. I guess that the lottery winner is from Japan/South Korea or China. These countries have really strong work ethics and laziness is considered a mortal sin. On the other hand, working your a$s off for years, while having 30 million USD in the bank seems plain stupid. Perhaps this guy could use the money to invest and build a successful business. This also requires lots of work and he will use this business to teach his kids some lessons about business management and work ethics.
1489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would this Lead to the Mass Adoption of Bitcoin? on: November 03, 2022, 10:56:30 AM
I still have the feeling that Elon Musk is trolling everyone with this "pay for a blue checkmark" idea. Maybe he will refuse this idea after a while.
Having to pay for a simple blue checkmark would turn many users away from the platform. Paying 8 dollars in order to prove that you are the legitimate owner of a Twitter account seems like good idea, that would eventually increase Twitter's revenue, but on the other hand, Twitter doesn't possess a monopoly over the social media business. The competition would still offer completely free option to verify your social media account. I can't imagine the various ways to abuse this paid feature.
Jack Dorsey would have adopted LN payments on Twitter, but I'm not sure about Elon Musk.
1490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2022/23 Season on: November 02, 2022, 12:15:20 PM
Congratulations to Tottenham and Eintracht Frankfurt for winning their matches and qualifying for the next round in the UEFA Champions League. Both teams were losing 0-1, but they managed to score 2 goals and win. Tottenham's goal at the last minute of the added time.
This the spirit and the ability to never give up and fight until the end. This is what differentiates the strong teams among the mediocre ones.
I don't see any interesting games today. Maybe Juventus would try to win against PSG, in order to guarantee it's third place in the group and a place in the Europa League.

Given recent conflict between russia and ukraine, I've wondered if the UK would feel safer outside the EU not having to devote manpower, resources or budget towards ukraine's support. As they would be expected to if they rejoined the EU as a full fledged member. If the UK did rejoin the EU perhaps they would wait until after the situation in ukraine is resolved. As an american who doesn't interact much with brits or europeans I wonder what the underlying current of public opinion resembles.

What do you mean?
The UK is already sending weaponry to Ukraine and UK officers are training Ukraine soldiers.
The UK doesn't need to be in the EU in order to send manpower, resources and money to Ukraine.
No country in the EU is REQUIRED to send weapons and money to Ukraine! The EU members are going this voluntarily.
They can send money and weapons, if they want to.
There's a parliament decision in my country(a member of the EU), which forbids the government to send weapons to Ukraine.
I don't expect the UK to rejoin the EU anytime soon. It doesn't matter if the war in Ukraine ends sooner or later.
The possibility of the UK getting in and out of the European Union every 5 years seems hilarious to me.
The brits have come to a decision and they have to stick to that decision.
1492  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why doesn't Bitcoin consider a low interest rate mechanism to fight deflation? on: November 02, 2022, 06:12:12 AM
First, Bitcoin is not a bank. Bitcoin doesn't give interest. If you want interest you could just use a PoS altcoin, which gives interest to it's users.
Or maybe you could use services like Nexo, if you want interest from your coins. I don't recommend such services, though.
Second, Bitcoin is divisible into a million satoshis, so the problem with "extreme scarcity" doesn't exist. When BTC becomes too expensive, the Bitcoiners will start measuring everything in satoshis.
I don't understand why do you think that we should be fighting deflation? Is deflation something bad? BTC being scarce isn't actual deflation. It's more like having a high price elasticity. A small change in demand leads to big change in the price. You should read about this in some books about economics.
1493  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake sports provider scam- Support offers back a “goodwill gesture” on: November 01, 2022, 12:31:35 PM
An online casino trying to bribe a player in order to silence him is an instant red flag.
This isn't a "goodwill gesture". It's a bribe. I really hope that someone, who works for Stake would join this forum thread and elaborate more on this problem. This seems like really arrogant behavior from the Stake customer support.
I've seen many crypto casinos doing sketchy stuff and rejecting winning bets and withdrawals. This is one of the most ridiculous cases.
I would be really pissed, if some crypto casino's customer support representative treats me like a retard and then he offers me money "to shut up and forget about it". This is totally disrespectful.
1494  Economy / Economics / Re: Can One Get Rich or At least Not go Broke During a Recession? on: November 01, 2022, 07:31:37 AM
Recession is coming and we know it. In some places it is staring us right in the face. Unemployment, rising cost of living, increasing food prices, falling stocks etc are some of the negative effects associated with recession. Despite this seemingly bad news, Warren Buffet said “In short, bad news is an investor’s best friend”. And another quote by someone goes thus "millionaires are made during a recession". I have been recently laid-off work due to the recent economic crisis in my country. I do not want to see this as a bad thing. So I ask what hidden opportunities does this recession offer? How can one take opportunity of the recession to become rich or at least not go broke?

The people, who have valuable skills will never go broke. It doesn't matter how hard the recession is.
The people, who don't have any valuable skills and work on very basic jobs(like janitors, for example) will always be close to poverty and close to getting flat broke.
There's no secret formula about how to become rich. Just work hard, be consistent, invest in yourself, learn new skills, use your brain, invest smart, try to find and exploit new niches on the market. At the end of the day, you would still need luck, no matter how hard you work.
Don't be afraid of failures. Failure can be a path to success, if you learn from your mistakes and improve yourself.
The vast majority of the people, who lack proper education and skills are pretty much doomed to fail. They will never escape the "poverty trap".
1495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is losing bitcoin in account have a significant impact to the bitcoin economy? on: November 01, 2022, 06:55:48 AM
It has a positive impact, but I don't think it's that significant. Lost Bitcoins make the remaining Bitcoins more scarce, but the price is mostly determined by the demand. Some altcoin developers could create some altcoin, which is more scarce than Bitcoin(let's say 1M coins hard cap). Will this altcoin reach a higher price than Bitcoin Core? I don't think so, because the people trust in the Bitcoin Core blockchain and Bitcoin Core has earned their trust across the years. People's trust determines the demand for BTC, which determines the Bitcoin price.
A scarce resource with zero demand is as worthless as a bunch of rocks.
1496  Economy / Economics / Re: Is recession coming actually? on: October 31, 2022, 11:46:05 AM
The global economy will be facing difficulties for sure, but don't trust the "doom & gloom prophets of the Apocalypse".
Some people simply like to spread panic and FUD(fear, uncertainty and doubt). Maybe they get some sort of benefits from spreading fears and panic, I just don't know what kind of benefits. There are Congress/Senate elections coming in the US and maybe the republicans want to spread more fears about the "disastrous" Biden administration and how everything is going downhill, unless the GOP comes and saves the day.
We can't get rid of political propaganda. Putin's propagandists keep repeating that Europe is going to be a facing a "cold winter" unless we the Europeans start begging Putin for mercy. Again, this is pure propaganda and nothing else.
The global economy will have to change and adapt and some people will lose their current jobs before their find new jobs.
The inflation will be high because the western world won't have access to cheap Russian gas (and maybe cheap Chinese goods).
The recession is a part of the business cycle. The economy can't keep growing forever.

You can when you won a huge amount
There's a discussion here of a guy who won a huge amount but added that he is quitting gambling is it really possible, anyone here have done quitting after winning a huge amount

The guy, who "won a huge amount, but is quitting gambling" is most likely spamming the forum with low quality threads.
I don't believe that he won anything and I don't believe that he is quitting gambling(maybe he isn't gambling at all).
Trying to quit gambling after winning a big amount of money must be extremely difficult. I'm sure that a lot more people quit gambling after losing money, rather than after winning.
Trying to quit gambling because you wife told you so seems hilarious to me. It seems that some men are total simps. Grin
Your wife having total control over your life is something you should be worried about.
No wonder that the words "life" and "wife" look so similar in the English language.
1498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Prime Minister of UK - A crypto believer on: October 31, 2022, 05:14:22 AM
"Crypto believer" is one thing, "Bitcoin believer" is a different thing, despite the fact that Bitcoin is crypto. Grin
Elon Musk is a supposed to be a "crypto believer", if you think that dogecoin is an actual cryptocurrency. Grin
People like Roger Ver and Craig Wright are also "crypto believers", which is hilarious.
The new British prime minister being a crypto believer doesn't mean anything to me. He won't make Bitcoin a legal tender in the UK for sure.
Don't expect this news to bring any kind of benefit for the crypto community in the UK or the crypto supporters around the globe.

The UK makes most of its income from banking/finance and it would be mad to drive crypto users away.

I never knew that most of the people in the UK are working as bank clerks. Ha ha ha... Grin
1499  Economy / Economics / Re: In a post abundance economy, which commodities and assets would appreciate most on: October 30, 2022, 12:04:05 PM
Wood prices for heating have been booming in my country(EU). I've ordered wood for heating at the low 2021 price levels and I'm still for my order to get fulfilled.
The wood prices going up is just pure FUD and speculation. The people got scared due to the natural gas price explosion and the constant fear of a "cold winter" being spread over the mainstream media. Everyone started buying wood for heating and the prices went up 3x.
Now the natural gas prices in my country are going down and winter won't be that cold. We have enough wood in the forests, so I don't think that wood is scarce where I live. Everything is just speculation BS and FUD and many idiots are going to buy overpriced wood this winter.
1500  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling house responisbilty to protect people data on: October 30, 2022, 06:59:24 AM
What do you mean by "gambling house"? Do you mean casino? Grin Are you talking about online casinos or offline casinos?
I don't know about any online casinos revealing the identity of the players, who won big amounts. Do you have any info about such practice?
I remember that a big lottery game in my country was revealing the names and faces of the lottery winners years ago.
The winners were required by the lottery to reveal their identities for advertising purposes(proving that the lottery is legit).
Anyway, the lottery game was banned for cheating and showing TV commercials with "jackpot winners" who didn't won the jackpot.
No gambler or jackpot winner must reveal his/her identity without his/her permission.
