All of these recents scams and fuck-ups are making Bitcoin look like a complete joke. Is there even one single reliable Bitcoin business/service/website out there? Nefario is probably negotiating a plea arrangement with the SEC.
Its a UK company, not a US one, the SEC have nothing to do with them & don't regulate them.

I didn't need to "get a font". Ubuntu 12.04, works out of the box. What OS are you using?
Doesn't work for me. Ubuntu 12.04 32bit with Firefox, fresh install as of today, and most of these fonts are a b-box, except for ฿ and Ƀ.

So, has there been any progress with this dude?
He's going to pay, right after pirate does.. Ahh, OK, so when hell freezes over. Just find it strange that people have just let him off with a crazy sum of money, surely someone should try their hand at getting a debt collection agency involved, or something at least, we know who he is and where he lives after all.

You can not steal, return half and set terms that amount to blackmail. Maybe you can tell Chen that. He is a multi-millionaire after all.
He didn't steal half. He stole 40kBTC and $40kUSD (44kBTC total), but is returning 20kBTC and $140kUSD (34kBTC total), so its 10k pocketed. Keep in mind the BTC value has risen to $10 since the hack, it was hovering around $5 at the time IIRC.

Chen Jianhai has agreed to return at least $140,000 and 20,000 BTC under the condition that Bitcoinica LP will not start a police investigation about the hack. OK, perfect. Don't start a police investigation, but why don't Bitcoinica LP do its own investigation, gathers evidence & takes this multi-millionaire to court (civil court if a criminal court isn't possible). I don't think a police investigation would help much with a BTC theft anyways.

Pirate will be next if it isn't already a scam ran by bruce wagner.
You're saying that Trendon Shavers, the guy everyone met in Vegas, is actually Bruce Wagner in a mask? My money is on a fourth Bitcoinica hack.

Of course, an electronics destroying solar flare could pose a problem.
You can always keep a copy of the blockchain on a VHS tape. They can store up to ~4.5GB (usually around 3.5GB).

You would need to get in contact with some web developers/designers and give more details to get a price for this.

almost every place i spend money everyday still only accepts money ........
Do the places you spend money at accept Zimbabwean dollars, INR or Yen? Bitcoin is being used for exactly what it should be used for and has the right attributes for, direct person-to-person trades over long distances & transactions that require anonymity. I honestly don't see it replacing cash, but thats just my opinion.

What's "deep savings"?
He means save them for a couple of years as they should be more valuable then due to deflation and "PPT"?
PPT means Pirate Pass Thru. A user on the forum "pirateat40" has a savings scheme which pays 7% per week interest, however, you need to have a large number of Bitcoins to participate. You can however, join a PPT, which allows you to put money in an account someone has with pirate. BitcoinMax (run by user Payb.tc) pays 6.9%. There are other PPT that are partially insured against a default by pirateat40 as well.

Keep in mind that these kind of things only protect against some personal disaster. If there is an epic solar storm and all computers are fried the blockchain will be gone and the private key useless.
Which is why I keep a printed copy of the blockchain.

initial network must start from trusted escrow nodes, those could be run by developers and forum mods nodes earn trust points
I don't like the sound of that. Sounds like a less distributed system, what if someone DDoSed the trusted nodes?
