961  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What happens to the coins in my wallet if I upgrade to 0.8.1 ? on: May 06, 2013, 10:09:19 AM
No you got it right the first time, thanks!

Also, what happens if I don't upgrade at all?

It will stop working correctly.

Well its still not easy for a newb to know who to trust for escrow, and most scammers have many accounts, making fake transfer reps and fake escrows...

Use someone who has been one the forums for years and has escrowed for hundred's of transactions of course, there are a lot of people who fit that category.

PM John K next time, he is a global moderator on the forums, has been here for a long time & has escrowed hundreds of tx's. Make sure you give a nice tip afterwards.
963  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: JUST SCAMMED BY ilovebitbit ! on: May 06, 2013, 12:39:09 AM
But using escrow is "sending irreversible untraceable currency to strangers on the internet" still....

No its not, read into 2 of 3 transactions. You and the seller have to agree to release the funds or one of you and the escrow has to agree to release it, the escrow, seller or buyer can't steal the funds on their own if you use a 2 of 3 transaction.

its not that easy when you dont know who the trust worthy people are on here...even some "full members" are scammers....

And that bring me to my next point, the rank beside peoples name is based ONLY on post count, not reputation. Just because some is full or hero member doesn't make them trustworthy at all. Pirateat40 was a hero member, he still stole millions of dollars.

and theres not any 'official' escrow sites for alt currencies...

I don't own any alt-coins so I wouldn't know, but its still possible to do 2 of 3 transactions with any alt-currency and I'm sure you can find someone who will escrow your transaction.
964  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: JUST SCAMMED BY ilovebitbit ! on: May 06, 2013, 12:32:11 AM
To all the new users who keep getting scammed somehow, USE ESCROW!

Check your buyers rep before trading and always use escrow, and don't trade with anyone who is new here.

If you do this you will not be scammed, its so simple, please for the love of god stop sending irreversible untraceable currency to strangers on the internet.
965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 0.8.2. What do you think? on: May 06, 2013, 12:03:17 AM

They don't get paid a single satoshi to develop Bitcoin.

Except Gavin.

Oopsie, did not realize that was now the case.
966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 0.8.2. What do you think? on: May 05, 2013, 11:58:59 PM
There has got to be a better solution.

Like?

It's not like we could actually spend these outputs before, they were always/still are unspendable. Why should we have unspendable BTC? It makes sense to block them for now. Miner's ultimately decide what tx fees we have to pay, years down the line maybe the fees will be low enough in order to allow spending of these pico-transactions.
967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin 0.8.2. What do you think? on: May 05, 2013, 11:43:15 PM
Good idea, I mean, if I send you 1 satoshi, with the fee structure we're using right now you cannot spend that 1 satoshi (0.0005BTC fee), so I loose 1 satoshi, you get nothing and the blockchain gets bloated. Its a no brainer, well at least until we have a proper fee structure in lace
968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: May 05, 2013, 11:32:07 PM
I shouldn't be told how to spend my bitcoins, if I want to make them non-spendable that is what I want.

Delete the private key if you want to make your BTC unspendable, don't bloat the blockchain with it.

It is censorship

Its fairly simple to remove the patch if you like, I'm not sure but I think nodes will still broadcast the tx, right?

plus they are doing it cause they have a vendetta against Satoshi Dice.

They should, SDice abuses the system, Bitcoin resources aren't unlimited, we have to share the resources between us. SDice should play nice and use the Bitcoin network resources efficiently and not waste them.
969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: May 05, 2013, 11:26:01 PM
Censorship.

It's not censorship, if you ask me, its like the other person not getting the BTC at all because they can't spend it. Why should we have transactions where the sender looses BTC and the receiver gets nothing?
970  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: May 05, 2013, 11:21:49 PM

I don't give a shit.  This is regulation of bitcoin.  End of story.

No one should be told how much they can or can't spend.  This is against everything I've understood of Bitcoin.

Maybe you are miss understanding, here is how it works right now:

I have 1BTC. I send you 1 satoshi. I now have 0.99999999BTC

You receive 0BTC, because the 1 satoshi is unspendable because there is a 0.0005BTC fee to spend it.

The Blockchain grows in size, using up more space on every Bitcoin user's PC & network resources are wasted.

Now please tell me why we shouldn't have this patch?
971  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: May 05, 2013, 11:14:16 PM
So effin what.  I'm still free to do it.

And you still are, its no problem to remove the patch, but the actual purpose of the patch is to make SatoshiDice stop filling the blockchain with dust (I'm going to come right out and say it).
972  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I thought the idea was to prune spent outputs, not block new transactions? on: May 05, 2013, 11:08:26 PM
You say "of course," but that isn't what has happened in the past.

Well if they don't remove it I'll fork the project on github and remove the patch myself, everyone can download an unpatched version then (nodes still relay the tx's, don't they?)
973  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: May 05, 2013, 11:06:33 PM
What the heck is the point in having 8 digits if you can't use them?

You can't use them right now. Try spending a 1satoshi input, you'll need to pay a 0.0005BTC tx fee to send it.
974  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Boycott 0.8.2 on: May 05, 2013, 11:05:15 PM
I think you guys are missing the point here.

The tx fee structure we currently use, plain sucks. It's been revised a couple of times as the BTC price rose over the years. These dust tx's cost more to spend than they are worth, they're essentially useless right now.

Once BTC price rises enough we will of course remove this patch and revise the tx fee rules to allow these transactions to be spent.
975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I thought the idea was to prune spent outputs, not block new transactions? on: May 05, 2013, 11:02:28 PM
That's not really a legitimate rationale.  Who's to say that, in the future, one Satoshi won't be worth enough to buy a meal and pay the transaction fee?

Well of course then the patch will be removed and the tx fee structure changed appropriately, but for now we definitely need this patch as all of our wallets are full of unspendable dust thanks to SatoshiDice.
976  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Who should I contact to request changing forum user Largo's position to SCAMMER? on: May 05, 2013, 10:41:42 PM
Instawallet is down. It's the reason I tried easycoin.net in the first place. See: http://instawallet.org

Exactly. He's telling you not to use these type of web wallets as the owners can steal your money & other problem's can occur.

Use a wallet like blockchain.info, electrum or multibit, where you have control over the private keys for your BTC so that you don't have to depend on the site to get your BTC.
977  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Scammer Scammers Scammers on: May 05, 2013, 06:17:15 PM
Use Escrow.

Don't trade with new users with no reputation.

If you do both of this things you will not be scammed. Its simple!
978  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think LTC worth more than BTC ? on: May 05, 2013, 11:44:03 AM
citation needed.

Logic seems to support you, but the historical evidence does not.

Is this good enough?

979  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think LTC worth more than BTC ? on: May 05, 2013, 11:35:40 AM
Why do people seem to think that more mining power has an effect on price?

Price affects the number of miners and the network hashrate, not the other way around.
980  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining with free electricity on: May 05, 2013, 11:12:11 AM
how is it possible you have free electricity ?

Free for him, maybe not free for his next door neighbour  Grin

Nah, some rental apartments come with all utilities included, so the landlord pays your electricity, thats until he gets hit with a crazy bill however, then you'll have to explain what BTC mining is to a judge.
