1541  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2014 Casascius St. Petersburg Bowl Bitcoin Coin on: January 04, 2015, 12:51:55 PM
What is the size of this coin? Or more specifically, what case/box/holder/protector would I need to keep it safe on display?

I will guess that is have the almost the same dimensions as the Casascius 1 BTC 1 Oz .999 Ag coin.

Elias Casascius Guide say that the dimensions for the 1 BTC silver are:
Diameter: 39mm
Thickness: 3mm
Weight: 1ozt

But you need ask Mike to get the exact measurements or wait until someone have the coin in hand.
1542  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 2014 Casascius St. Petersburg Bowl Bitcoin Coin on: January 04, 2015, 01:08:59 AM
I also think this coin marks and important milestone in bitcoin history, both in terms of Mike's first commemorative casascious coin but also that is the toss coin for a football event.

When that is said, I hope Mike will follow smoothies steps and make buyer funded coins one day.
I like the idea about the buyer send the bitcoins to directly to the coins addy, the "manufacture" then verify that the coin is loaded before it ships out, in this way is the manufacture never in direct contact with the buyers funds, thus FINCEN has nothing to complain about - and we still have the "magic" of buying funded coins.
1543  Economy / Collectibles / Re: serpcoin DIY2 - Do It Yourself Physical Bitcoins on: January 03, 2015, 11:58:54 PM
Uh oh...thought this whole do-it-yourself coin was gonna be easy (never created a cold wallet before). I don't know how to use Ubuntu, how to find a virtual machine or download one with my mac and I can't seem to get this program to work...

Can anyone help here? I feel like I wasted 20 bucks now cause I have no idea how to do any of this.

You have not wasted $20 Smiley
There are other ways of creating the private key + print.

I did not use the DIY software.
I created the private keys using a copy of www.bitaddress.org, copied the HTML file to a offline computer with a printer attached.
(I actually tossed a dice 99 times to create a random BASE99 number, so I did not have to trust ninja's random generator)

I then made a template in paint (2 x square that fits serp coins if folded), and copy-pasted in the private in one of the squares and the puplic key in the other square.

Print, cut, fold, and assemble.

Very easy to do, all with standard software.

(also recommended to "test/verify" the private key offline with bitaddress.org before loading the coin)

Edit: I do not want to hijack serp thread, PM and I can help you with this method if you like the idea and my explanation is not clear enough.

1545  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 🌟 TRADE Your Physical Cryptos HERE 🌟 on: January 03, 2015, 06:57:40 PM
Where do you even get Physical coins, and what value do they really have? are they worth the same as their digital counterpart? can i trade like 20,000 digital doge for 20,000 physical Dogecoins?

All minted coins have a premium on top of the face value.
The premium can variate greatly depending on the coin, there are many factors such as: rarity, condition/grading, metal value ect.

I was selling physical DOGE coins earlier here on the forum, they sold for around 0.05 BTC, face value was 10000 DOGE (~ 0.01 at that time), than means that the premium was 0.04 BTC.

There is also the option to get a laptop without a wifi module, while some models might have the wifi chip build in, I am sure that some models still uses modules.

Could not find the most important thing: the actual coin toss Sad
1551  Other / Off-topic / Re: Where can I buy a computer with no TX card in 2014?????? on: January 02, 2015, 11:32:19 AM
Just set the WiFi button to off.

this is horrible idea. Malware.....

still no good answers. came here as a last resort seems impossible to get a laptop w no cards today anyone else think no?Huh? unless ur willing to roll the dice and get somethine older and what a bummer cause even if u pay 100$ you can get ones now for 178$ acer is running a special

I think what coinits means is that there is a physical "turn off wifi" switch on most laptops (all my IBM/Lenovo has such a switch).
This switch is physically connected to the sleep pin on the wifi chip, there is NO way malware can override this function.

He also has a new design coming out which is actually a puzzle! Frickin' unbelievable.

Agreed, I was hesitating with the 2014 model... But I think the puzzle got me convinced to get the 2015, that one will be epic Smiley

People got robbed. Again. For not personally securing their wealth

Yes, it is horrible. Crypto is still the wild-wild-west. Feel sorry for the people who lost funds.
I am just trying to get an overview of what happen.
1556  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: The Mintpal "breakdown" on: December 31, 2014, 05:18:55 PM
Was the upgrade to V2 just a scam to stall people and get time to cash out?
1557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / The Mintpal "breakdown" on: December 31, 2014, 04:48:46 PM
I am not a big user of altcoin (maybe with the exception of LTC and DOGE, but physical coins only).

Can one of you hardcore altcoin users give me a summery of what happen to mintpal?

I rarely exchange alt's but after virurex died I start using mintpal, kinda like that site... last thing I saw that they had a big launch of V2.
And ever since that they never got up running again (luckily I did not have any funds there).

I just read a post about a poor user who lost DRK coins there.
What is the story behind mintpal? Hack, owner ran with money, technical issues?

(speculations are welcome as well)

Thanks Smiley
1558  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Kialara Physical Bitcoins/HAVEN: Update on: December 31, 2014, 02:33:31 PM
Received my coin today from the EU group buy and must say I'm overjoyed Grin. Well done creator this is absolutely stunning!

I took a couple of pictures to try and capture the beauty especially with the holograms.

Funny thing is it looks different from every angle, it's full of so many beautiful colours Smiley.

Are you going to fund it? If yes, will you break off that metal thingy?
Or will you just keep it unfunded?

Happy year, and cheers Smiley

Does the 2015 coin automatically opens when you get each of the five balls into the center circle? Cheesy
1560  Economy / Collectibles / Re: "Meta" - 11" Physical Bitcoin (SOLD) on: December 30, 2014, 04:03:00 PM
I would not be the person to ask about that. its my own stupid fault. When you send a PM there is a warning at the bottom that says that the messages are not secure or encrypted. I am getting PGP set up to use from now on.

That is a very good idea.
The PGP key can also be used to retrieve your account if it should be hacked, it seams like you are an obvious target.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

Feel free to send me an encrypted message if you need to make a few test Smiley

My PGP finger print is in my signature.
