15521  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I think I fried my laptop while mining on: May 17, 2015, 04:19:41 PM
Hmm, why would you mine bitcoin with a laptop in the first place? Huh I tried mine just for experimenting, and take note it is a 5-year old laptop. Ran it for 5 hours at full speed on 2 cores and the temps are at 60 degrees C so I stopped it. But I still mine different altcoins from time to time using this old machine and trying to avoid mining bitcoin as much as possible. Dude, CPU mining on bitcoin became obsolete 3 years ago. Why even bother wasting your machine for literally nothing in return?
15522  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price movement on: May 17, 2015, 04:13:28 PM
Well the most important factor of btc price movement is the blockchain inhibition factor. Each time a new block is mined, the difficulty of halving the blockchain gets quartered. So if there is a new block in the chain today, there will be no more blocks to mine on thursday... This really pisses me of from time to time, but what can you do??... Angry

But that factor doesn't reflect significantly in prices. We've been in the $230s range for almost a week now. Trading is the major factor that is really affecting the price in the current times. Demand also counts a lot.

EDIT: what do you mean by this? Huh

.. So if there is a new block in the chain today, there will be no more blocks to mine on thursday...
15523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nick Szabo, Wei Dai... Who are their employers? on: May 17, 2015, 04:10:58 PM
So I assume that this Nick Szabo that is being linked to with Satoshi Nakamoto is in his 50s or 60s now.

And I assume that water is wet.

We know how old he is!

Sorry to be a dick but people are playing detective on stuff that is already known. Lets look for some unknown stuff. Like who has this guy been working for the past three decades since college? That'd be interesting to learn.

Well sometimes, one must review all the facts before he starts delving into the unknown. Also, in the first place we aren't supposed to be playing detectives linking different people to Satoshi. He wants to be anonymous, why don't we leave it that way? This entire paradox about Satoshi's true identity is just reoccurring over and over again, only with different words and whatnot.  If we find Satoshi Nakamoto in the flesh, what's next? Worship him as a god or something?
15524  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS leader, Baghdadi, says "Islam was never a religion of peace. on: May 17, 2015, 04:07:14 PM
I don't know some deeper knowledge about Islam but what the ISIS is doing right is just completely unethical, immoral, and inhuman. Why would you promote rape, killing innocent people, torture, and war? Just to spread the word? I'm not knowledgeable about the Qur'an, but I'm pretty certain that there is not a verse there that promotes killing other innocent people just for the sake of Islam.

Did I ever said that Christianity was spread through the land with rainbows and flowers? Both Christianity and Islam used force as a means of getting new converts. Christianity was spread in the "New World" through a massive campaign of genocide, in which more than 90% of the native population was exterminated. Both these Abrahamic religions religions resemble more to organized business corporations than to other religions.

I agree that the Roman Catholic Church once entered a state wherein they would burn people at stake who doesn't believe in god and combat heresy and witchcraft. The Holy Inquisition, that is. Even innocent people became victim of this brutal and unethical method. It was not even stated in the Bible but still they insist that it is "for God."
15525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nick Szabo, Wei Dai... Who are their employers? on: May 17, 2015, 03:55:49 PM
Szabo is in his 50s...

Vitalik Buterin has met him in person...

More info will come out on Szabo now - he is barely a "real" person himself, slightly more transparent than Satoshi, but, not by that much.

nick szabo is not 85...

This is where I saw the claims that Nick Szabo is already 85 years of age:

Who are their employers?

Nick Szabo the one born in 1930, graduate of UC Berkeley, resident of Silicon Valley (Cupertino), employed at Lockheed, Link-Singer, and KLA,
http://www.faireconomy.org/files/pdf/notalonereportfinal.pdf

Also, how can you say that Nick Szabo is not 85 when there are so many uncertainties regarding his identity? There are even no known picture of him in the internet.

OK guys, I took a few moments looking at that faireconomy PDF. Definitely NOT the Nick Szabo/Satoshi Nakamoto we are looking for!! That PDF is by a leftist, statist organization preaching socialism/communism, which is about as far as you can get from libertarian, free-market principles of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency developers in general. So the 85-year old socialist is definitely not the Nick Szabo of interest.

I see that point. Even read the PDF and scoured only to find out that it is not the Nick Szabo which is 85 years of age that we're looking for here. AGain, going back to the picture, the fashion of the beard and the ties dates back to the '90s if I'm not mistaken. So I assume that this Nick Szabo that is being linked to with Satoshi Nakamoto is in his 50s or 60s now.
15526  Economy / Economics / Re: money laundering on: May 17, 2015, 03:52:00 PM
is bitcoin open way forward money launderer to get safe money,i asked that because its appear that bitcoins is verry hard to control or track

Yes, bitcoin is an easy medium on money laundering, but that doesn't mean that you won't get tracked with your activities. Taint analysis helps track where the coins go after a certain transaction until it stops. The hard thing is, even if you kept track of coins and managed to locate the last address it landed, you'll still get a rough time on linking the address towards a certain person or user.
15527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Methods of growing your Bitcoin? on: May 17, 2015, 03:49:42 PM
a sig campaign requires you to already have a good account on here and faucets are not good for making bitcoin, there pretty much just something to introduce you to the currency and get a few satoshis in your wallet. Right now I see cloud mining investments and dice investments as the best choice of action.

you can just buy one hero member account, instead of wasting money on mining service of any kind, this will bring you in action early

The small problem with a newbie buying a Hero account to join a signature campaign is a bad idea, firstly a Hero member is/should be very knowledgeable on the forum and can be constructive to the thread because he/she has built that up over a year or 2. Someone just joined on the other hand has little to no idea about what is going on most of the time and needs to learn before they should think about buying accounts etc

Not to mention the risk of getting scammed by not getting the account data after buying or by having the account "hacked" through something as simple as an e-mail address that was not changed..

Yeah, I thought once about that. If someone buys an account, they can get their password stolen unless the email of the account is in your power too. Or im missing something?

Nope if you buy account from someone you must know every detail of it like password so after you deal with the seller. As soon as you get the id and password, change the password and email as fast as you can so you wont be hacked anymore. This is so simple

To decrease the risks in buying an account, asking for an escrow before making a deal with someone you don't know could probably be a great help. The escrow could check whether the account involved in the transaction is of true and verifiable state. After the escrow verified all the things that needs to be checked, and after he is sure that the account is in his full control, then the buyer could then send the seller the coins and when the payment is received, the escrow could release the details to the account.
15528  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Google self-drive cars get green light on: May 17, 2015, 03:17:19 PM
These cars are better than average if not most drivers. Besides, if those drivers cause the accident they will get fined.
Regular drivers can't predict anything better than software, else we would have less accidents.

Not sure If a self-driving car will be better than an human driver at negotiating with not too clear, confusing, or vandalized traffic signs.
-snip-
[/center]
This will depend on the exact situation. I've left the third picture for a reason. I (a person) do not know that language, neither does that car. I'm pretty sure that we both wouldn't do what we're supposed to at such a sign.
This is why the system has to mature as I've recently said. While time goes there will be better sensors and object recognition, so while waiting there are going to be additional benefits.

The car could possibly use GPS, but even GPS could be a stretch in a self-driving car if there are different traffic signs indicated for a certain place. Steering could be made with voice recognition, ordering the car to turn left or right depending on the road. I don't know how exactly would this self-driving car turn out, but I know one thing for certain: don't market it in my country because drivers here are so unpredictable and aggressive in driving.
15529  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price movement on: May 17, 2015, 03:11:01 PM
Is holding some bicoin will also affect the price of bitcoin ?

Theoretically, yes, because you will add to the "scarcity" of the coins in circulation. However, in bitcoin, it is a completely different thing. There are traders who are constantly playing and riding the waves of the market to gain something even if it's a little. The price movement of bitcoin isn't really limited to just the supply and demand factor; the trading scene heavily contributes to it, too.
15530  Other / Meta / Re: Newbie accounts used for trolling on: May 17, 2015, 03:07:46 PM
Well known troller clowns are creating accounts to troll with like it's nothing, why can't an admin not simply set a limit of accounts being created per person per timeframe.

For example 1 account per week or so, that would reduce these nonsense threads by a lot.

What 'reference' will you use to create and apply this limit, the trolls can use unlimited IPs (through : vpn, proxy or tor). I think it is not so simple, the unique way is to continue report the posts and the Staff will check those users.

The most effective way I have found so far, reporting posts that is either trolling or just spamming nonsense. After all, it is again the job of the moderators to enforce the rules here in the forum so any restrictions/newbie jails wouldn't be needed IMO.
15531  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dark Net Weapons Bust Leads To 17 Arrests and a $80,000 Bitcoin Seizure on: May 17, 2015, 02:59:50 PM
I still don't get it, why do most of the people in the world believe that bitcoin is more evil compared to its fiat counterpart when in fact, illegal tradings and activity are heavily present in fiat compared to bitcoin. Funny how they throw stones in a thing that could help them and they look blindly upon a thing that's been enslaving them for almost a long time now. When will people realize the difference between the two?
15532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am 90% sure that "EhVedadooAnonimato" is Satoshi on: May 17, 2015, 02:54:56 PM
Yes, he is definitely quite knowledgeable about linguistics, modern formal logic and stuff.
Among many other things like Ethics, Economics and world affairs.
A bit like Noam Chomsky, I would say, but more of a mathematician, able to go deep into Modern Algebra and stuff.
He doesn't have made any contributions to cryptography but he certainly can go much deeper into it than 99.9% of the people can.
This is a guy with an IQ of 195, that studied Mathematics at Harvard in the 60's.
There is no way he doesn't understand 99% of Satoshi's whitepaper. That's simply impossible to believe, for me, at least.

I really have no doubts he is Satoshi and I know that time will prove me right.

Idk if this reasons and statements are enough to link this certain man to Satoshi. I mean, come on. As I've said before, we aren't even that familiar to the identity of Satoshi; we only got a clue of who he is by the way he posts and talks about different matters, but that's all. Heck, we don't even know whether this is a group of people or a single individual after all.
15533  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BPD] Bitcoin Pizza Day - PREPARE! on: May 17, 2015, 02:25:46 PM
I hope Domino's here in the Philippines accepts bitcoins as a form of payment. I really want to take part in this celebration and be part of history. Maybe in the coming years, my name would be included to those users who bought pizzas for bitcoins.

EDIT: Would they honor a GC from Gyft if ever I want to buy pizzas for bitcoins?
15534  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Electronics for bitcoins? Feedback :) on: May 17, 2015, 02:19:09 PM
In fact you resell item from website like AliExpress ^^
So you buy it for us for BTC ?

Nothing is revealed about their business model. Maybe it is like that, because the gadget that OP just posted in here costs around $80 on different online markets. Reseller or not, I'm still doubting the legitimacy of this service.
15535  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am 90% sure that "EhVedadooAnonimato" is Satoshi on: May 17, 2015, 02:15:14 PM
who is António Franco Alexandre?

A kind of Richard Feynman with a level of knowledge that defeats explanation.
A genius. A very elegant and intelligent man with a very tender sense of humour.
Definitely an extremely high IQ, well versed in the mastery of languages,
(Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, English, but also a bit of German and Hebraic...)
Found of the Japanese culture; a libertarian and progessist; a very modern intellectual.
A very sensible man, with a very centered heart.
A bright mathematician that finds Fermat's theorem and its proof fascinating; that finds gold, water, sun and moon fascinating. In a word, Satoshi.
The kind of intelligence that would learn the fundamentals of C++, to the level of knowledge of Bjarne Stroustrup, the creator of C++, in a weekend or two...
A guy that is always surprising you by how much he knows, and that will know that it is Roberto Benigni you mean, and not Noam Chomsky or William Gibson or John Searl or Bertrand Russell or John Travolta or Donald Trump or Rupert Murdoch or Warren Buffet. Who else? Satoshi.
Literally, there is nothing you can throw at him that he doesn't already know. The real dad... Uncle Sam!

A fascinating man.

By the way you described him, it seems that you are very fond of him to know some details about him. The wikipedia page doesn't state anything about the details you've just put in here. He's a linguist, if he mastered several languages. But how can we link this certain man to Satoshi, given that we only have limited knowledge about Satoshi himself?
15536  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Electronics for bitcoins? Feedback :) on: May 17, 2015, 01:36:24 PM
I am not from china, but alot of the products are, again, about legitimacy, this takes time, even registered businesses can be scams, i disagree with you, hell even banks are scams..

Anyway i will be updating this thread when we launch, but please keep the feedback coming!

From the way you reason, you give me another thing not to trust you. If you want to create a legitimate business trusted by your peers, then you must at least try to appear legitimate. In this case you aren't. Heck, you haven't provided even a single piece of proof that you'll be operating legitimately. How would I even trust a business that isn't even aware of capitalization on proper nouns, spelling, and the capitalization of the word "I"? Please, try harder.
15537  Other / Meta / Re: A interesting phenomenon I just found on: May 17, 2015, 01:30:17 PM
why most of us didn't update the avatar with our real picture like we have done on facebook & twitter?

This is quite normal in a place wherein you must keep almost all of your personal information for yourself so as to prevent some attacks that may harm you and your family. Facebook and twitter is a different case. You need to chat with your friends and family members and to people you know so why choose a meaningless avatar completely unrelated to you? On the other hand, why post your face in front of people you don't know and assume that you'll be safe in terms of privacy?
15538  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Electronics for bitcoins? Feedback :) on: May 17, 2015, 01:18:58 PM
About your questions, no we are nit registered, we are a group of university graduates working with a team of freelancers from a small office in oxfordshire

If you're talking about a business, then a registration is a must because it is one way of showing your legitimacy towards your peers and customers. Without this, I don't think anyone would be gullible enough to hand you some bitcoin with a promise of sending the product over in x amount of time. Even if you say you are university graduates and freelancers, you need to abide by certain regulations if you're planning to set up a business.
15539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am 90% sure that "EhVedadooAnonimato" is Satoshi on: May 17, 2015, 12:58:54 PM
I still can't see how the rising numbers of threads like these are useful for discussing around... As many said before, Satoshi wants to remain anonymous for a reason. Let's just leave him in the shadows. Besides, EhVedadooAnonimato doesn't even seem to be Satoshi, at least for me. Back in the days, not only Satoshi was knowledgeable about Bitcoin...

I get the point that "This is Satoshi" threads are quite annoying, but if you look at some of the posts of EhVedadoOAnonimato, you might even think that the user is in fact Satoshi. If you look into the user's post history, some of the posts are very striking and remarkable and sometimes, remind me of how Satoshi writes his replies. Idk if this is just a feat of the user to resemble Satoshi's style of writing or this is the same man behind Satoshi. Whatever the case is, let it be. Satoshi doesn't want to be bothered in the first place, that's why he tried so hard to keep his anonymity.
But why would Satoshi want to have an alt account' I've been looking at the post history, and he never said anything special that would require an alternative account.

Because creating an alt account would actually help him do his job as satoshi without being noticed by anyone. If a person would like to hide his/her identity, he/she would do everything to hide his/her trails--whether it is to create several identities or lower his/her activities, it's his/her choice.
15540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am 90% sure that "EhVedadooAnonimato" is Satoshi on: May 17, 2015, 12:34:51 PM
Wait, he also has a few posts in French.

Here is one of them:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36147.msg480053#msg480053

So, what does that mean if he could also converse in French? There could be a blood of French, Portuguese, and British in his identity. That is not uncommon to happen.
