1562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quantum resistance on: October 05, 2020, 07:35:21 AM
The company Dwave is now shipping $15M quantum computers with 5000Qbits of processing power. For comparison, the rest of the vendors are at ~50qbits. I know that $15M is quite a lot of money, but in 2 year that figure will be half. As you probably know, quantum calculations can be multiple times faster than any computer we have today. What are the plans for Bitcoin to continue to exist?

as processing power develops, cryptographic will develop as well.

If the technology used in bitcoin (cryptography) becomes vulnerable to quantum computers, bitcoin will be the least of our problems. The whole computer cyber security will be vulnerable. No more banking, no more internet, basically everthing you have  a password will be vulnerable.
See, quantum computers are based on the direction of atoms when you measure them. There are laws in physics that allow computers to measure atoms knows qubits at massive rates. You can easily calculate the position of many qubits at the same time.
This allows us to execute parallel computing at insanely fast speeds compared to traditional computers. It’s like moving at light speed. So if they are so fast at testing multiple possible results for a given encryption algorithm, shouldn't we be afraid of them breaking Blockchain's encryption? No, here's the first reason why: there aren't good quantum computers yet, and that kind of innovation will take us years to attain. Even a good quantum computer can only halve the difficulty of the SHA-256 algorithm used on the entire Bitcoin network, among many other Blockchains.
There is a good article which doesn't speak too tech if you wish to delve into it more https://www.fxstreet.com/cryptocurrencies/news/why-the-crypto-community-shouldnt-be-afraid-of-quantum-computers-202010011535

We can really expect Bitcoin to boom and go to the moon now! If even Godfrey Bloom buys his first bitcoin the road to adoption is clearly paved.
/s  Grin Jokes aside, the guy is on the hard side of money with Bitcoin, Gold, and Silver. I believe, the BTC/Gold pair, today, is a good hedge against this crazy economic times.
1564  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: October 05, 2020, 07:08:34 AM
Serie A officials insisted all the health protocols were in place for the match in Turin. The Juventus bus pulled into the Allianz Stadium an hour before the game, with the players remaining in their tracksuits on the pitch. The match was eventually abandoned 45 minutes after its scheduled start time, with Napoli's fate now depending on a meeting of Italian league officials on Tuesday.
This is a complete farce! I hope the five different appeals presented by Napoli will be deemed true.

Some of my further questions have been already been asked by others and answered accordingly. I will leave a proper feedback on the platform when all those last bits will be in place. Of course, I am eagerly waiting for the bonus guidelines  Cool

My master is satoshi: keep your OPSEC clean, behave, do not do harm and, eventually, disappear. There is an old saying: If you want to hide the treasure, put it in plain sight. Then no one will see it.

I have no master and I thank Satoshi among others for this reality.
I guess the important thing is you got what I meant there. You probably missed some of my previous posts (maybe you didn't care, which is fine). I am here for freedom too, not for the money (which one day might be a side effect).
I am taking notes, in the last two days I got so many insights from some of you madhatters. Smiley

For those who don't follow telegram/discord etc. can you please give an update regarding your developments? Perhaps, since is more of a philosophical thread, start a new one on your Sovryn app and products (if you do please post it here too).  This way it can be easier for folks like me who don't use telegram/discord to follow what's going on.  Wink

I don't necessarily agree even though it looks like my post allowed you to get a merit boost (and I am overall surprised by those who merited you the most). Grin I will keep my position and see how all this will unfold. I am more conscious than ever that only dexes, layer2, coinjoins, LN and such could allow us a bitcoin true experience.
If what you wrote will prevail, I will probably start to abandon the ship. I don't applaud the CFTC
But we are friends anyway Wink

I hear you man, I'm concerned too, that we'll end up filthy rich, but unable to enjoy our riches... No joke.

Karartma1, I don't think you need to abandon ship. Let's wait and see how this plays out. It's all good to have total freedom to do whatever we want, but do you remember how Elwar's seastead ended up? We've got to tread carefully, or my statement "we'll end up filthy rich, but unable to enjoy our riches" may come true.
Maybe I woke up on the wrong side of my bed yesterday. I will not abandon the ship but I will be increasingly cautious regarding bitcoin further advancements. I admire Elwar very much but I don't believe seasteading is practical in our world. My master is satoshi: keep your OPSEC clean, behave, do not do harm and, eventually, disappear. There is an old saying: If you want to hide the treasure, put it in plain sight. Then no one will see it.

Hi betnomi, welcome  Smiley I was looking for the info regarding your ongoing promos but couldn't find anything. My question is what are the deposit bonus, betting bonus etc. requirements. It would be great to know  Cool
Yes, the promo and bonus page is not available for public viewing now but, we will activate it in the next few days as we update the information's on the website.
Good, better to inform players in advance. I am specifically asking this because I have already lost quite a lot on one specific casino that changed the rules while I was playing. I think if you want to acquire your users' loyalty this is something of great importance. Keep us updated.

On the Bitmex drama, my thoughts.
Some bitcoin companies are like lab rats: they have been left alone to experiment things that one day will become part of the new FINancialTECHnology world. Take Bitmex: bringing futures to the next level right? or finex or any other. Then they come and tell you, hey boy, this is our territory, how do you dare?
And then they publicly admit that "Digital assets hold great promise for our derivatives market and for our economy". Yeah, right?

Thumbs up to 600watt, somac. for https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg55302340#msg55302340
Although, IMO, institutions will find a way to get into Bitcoin without an ETF. We've seen however, that in the last months despite the huge purchases, the price didn't move as much as it should. The only logical explanation is of course the fraudulent shorting using Mex and other not well regulated exchanges. There is also a non logical explanation. As we are normal people here, carefuly thinking about every detail, we tend to forget that there are people who are not like us. Take for example Las Vegas - how many addicted people are in the casinos losing all the cash they bring in their pockets! The same is with the addicted daily traders, who can't be called manipulators, but like vicious brainless piranhas eat the price down until their stash is gone in an endless stop loss chase. The removal of Mex shorters will tip the balance against the piranhas and in favour of the natural growth. So I applaud the CFTC action and hopefully it will shut down Mex and put their owners and other money launderers in jail, where they belong!

Yes, there will be dips.
Yes, there will be peaks.
Yes, there will be pumps.
Yes, there will be dumps.

Just Zoom OutTM, chill, and have a beer!

If you're scared about a dip, you need some HoDL training...

Sure man, I am like you on this. But, what I am seeing coming from the regulators is making me thinking (just have a look at V8's post up here). Maybe I am a bit naive but I don't want to become rich at the expense of my freedom, if you get what I mean.  Roll Eyes
I know I should elaborate more but I am confused.

Cant they inject him with UV or something?
Ipse dixit:
Quote from: Donald Trump
While noting the research should be treated with caution, Mr Trump suggested further research in that area.
"So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous - whether it's ultraviolet or just very powerful light," the president said, turning to Dr Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response co-ordinator, "and I think you said that hasn't been checked but you're going to test it.
"And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside of the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you're going to test that too. Sounds interesting," the president continued.
"And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?
"So it'd be interesting to check that."
Pointing to his head, Mr Trump went on: "I'm not a doctor. But I'm, like, a person that has a good you-know-what."

1573  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: United States CFTC Charges BitMEX Owners! on: October 03, 2020, 09:49:00 AM
are there DEXs that offer 100x leverage yet? Tongue
Yeah, fair point, haha. Although I'm sure one of the various Ethereum/DeFi/wrapped BTC DEXs probably offers leverage trading. Still, these things take time. The more that centralized exchanges are hacked, scam or shutdown then the more desire there is for DEXs and the more growth and development they will see.

based on this estimate, that's in the range of 20% of their total holdings.
How many people do you think have made a conscious decision to leave their coins on BitMex, and how many just haven't seen the news yet? We know from previous exchange hacks and scams that a lot of people don't pay attention to crypto news.
To add more sauce on that think also of how many people don't pay attention and don't understand what are the implications of leaving their own coins on a third-party platform. I am afraid there's a huge risk many will learn a tough lesson the hard way.
1574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Quantum resistance on: October 03, 2020, 09:16:59 AM
There was this very informative thread on the Quantum resistance topic which I found super interesting since QC is something I am deeply fascinated about.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5191219.0

Especially this is important
"We will know when quantum computers exist when Satoshi’s coins move." https://marketrebellion.com/why-quantum-computing-is-not-a-threat-to-bitcoin/
This is just inaccurate fud. We have no reason to believe that Satoshi is still active in the community its been years since he has been involved and Bitcoin has developed without him for a long time. Yes he is someone to be respected but for all we know Satoshi could well be dead or imprisoned. We will know when to make the changes that are needed for quantum computing by monitoring the development of quantum computers and not because someone decides to move their coins.
Given that Satoshi's coins are in Pay to public key outputs, the pubkeys are publicly available already. So if we assume Satoshi is dead or otherwise gone, his coins moving would actually be an indication that Quantum computers exist because the only way for them to move (assuming he is no longer around) is for someone to have been able to compute the private keys to those exposed public keys, presumably via quantum computer. In general, it would mean that the ECDLP is has been broken in some way (regardless of QCs) and should no longer be relied upon (i.e. we should move off of ECDSA and Schnorr).

It was a while since I shared a parlay of mine. I've been following the news closely and I am going to try the 5 games below. Of course DYOR and if you wish, give some constructive feedback: who knows, maybe we could find the best parlay
Sassuolo - Crotone Sassuolo
Udinese - Roma Roma
Atalanta - Cagliari Atalanta
Parma - Verona Both teams to score
Juventus - Napoli Over 2,5 goals

1576  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔥 bestodds.ai | odds comparison site | we help you find the best odds on: October 03, 2020, 08:39:52 AM
It's awesome to see a viable alternative to OddsPortal for crypto sportsbooks  Smiley
The site looks great, and I love that you can compare the odds for alternative spreads/totals, instead of just the even line like what BitEdge offers. You also have more markets & sports available compared to them, which is really nice. Are there any plans for odds change history similar to what OddsPortal has?
I second DarkStar_ thoughts! Great job bestodds.ai!
This really helps especially when, let's say, one would like to place a single bet with some big stake and wants to make the best out of it. But also when playing some sort of system for combining multis. I did not know about you guys, will follow closely.  Wink

the biggest problem is maybe the one who hit that 5.8mil bets don't know about that, and there will be no winner if he doesn't posted on chat after he hit that
If the player does not follow promos and/or likes to do automated betting via bot, then I guess you are certainly right. Getting that bet considering the high volume betting on CG is definitely hard. Imagine me trying to get that only via simple manual betting  Wink

Last year it was really a heartbreaking finish to Atalanta’s first appearance in Champions League. I guess everybody saw what happened in Bergamo during the early pandemic days and I believe Atalanta players were behind the city from the start and said they wanted to bring joy back to all of Bergamo's people. They are a great team and will do good this season. I am going to bet some money on them in many games. Wink

I was wondering if this Holy Gray(l)scale Btc buying frenzy could counter-oppose the almost certain troubles that the market will suffer due to the Bitmex, CFTC drama. It looks like the market is neither able or capable of understanding the importance that decisions taken by the likes of MicroStrategy, Grayscale etc. could impact the price on the long run.
