161  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost Half of Private Key - Are Bitcoins Safe? on: June 17, 2014, 10:00:46 PM
Yes, you could give it to them  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Yeah, it's far more likely they will find out the second half by the same method they found out the first half.
Also there's some possibility that there's some EC vulnerability if you know half of a key, but that's beyond my knowledge.
162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Missing bitcoins from wallet on: June 17, 2014, 09:58:30 PM
Did you generate that address in bitcoin-qt or did you import it from something someone else gave you, maybe a brainwallet?  Did someone else have access to your computer who could have stolen the coins?
163  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Lost Half of Private Key - Are Bitcoins Safe? on: June 17, 2014, 09:36:47 PM
It makes it 340282366920938463463374607431768211456 times easier to brute force.

So if you could guess 10^9 per second it'd only take you 10^24 years instead of 10^63 years.
164  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Offline Bitcoin Armory on LiveUSB on: June 17, 2014, 08:51:16 PM
If you're worried about compatibility then download that exact version that he states on the site.
The Live USB won't damage your existing OS.  Of course it's possible that you could damage the OS by formatting the drive or deleting files, but just don't mess with the hard drive and you'll be fine.
165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain Address Question on: June 17, 2014, 08:49:17 PM
There should be no reason you need to send purchased bitcoins specifically to a blockchain.info address.
166  Economy / Services / Re: How can I get an escrow? on: June 17, 2014, 08:27:20 PM
I haven't used any of them, but I'd recommend Danny Hamilton based on his helpful post history.
167  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wallets on: June 17, 2014, 08:25:16 PM
If you have downloaded a bunch of bitcoin/altcoin software I would start by reformatting the HD. Many such programs have keyloggers and other malware.
Anyway, I like a cold storage wallet, like a paper wallet, for real money. And a spending wallet on my phone for small balances.

Yeah I avoid altcoins for this reason.  I'd rather risk keeping altcoins online than downloading a suspect client and losing real coins.
168  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How do you communicate with your Antminer S2 outside your network? on: June 17, 2014, 07:54:13 PM
Check if the antminer has some sort of firewall that only lets it connect to computers on the same subnet.  Also check if you need to forward https port as well.  But, I think it's a bad idea to expose it to the internet.  I can't imagine that it's hardened against attack.
169  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How to monitor room temperature remotely? on: June 17, 2014, 05:01:40 PM
You want to control an AC based on the temperature in the room... that's called a thermostat Smiley  Most ACs have them built in.
170  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Fastest way to import private keys and send funds? on: June 16, 2014, 11:36:05 PM
Electrum can import a private key.  If you want to keep everything in bitcoind you'll have to rescan.  I'm not sure what armory's reindexing speed is vs bitcoind.
171  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Get list of all addresses with a balance over x? on: June 16, 2014, 04:34:53 PM
Can't you just sort the output?
172  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding Public and Private Keys on: June 16, 2014, 01:44:15 AM
Sorry, that was surely really badly put. But the next time he generates a new address, he might just generate the private key that corresponds to the address where Satoshi has the most bitcoins.

I would not want to create any more confusion with these things of course...

The next time you walk outside you might be approached by an alien robot disguised as a semi-truck too.
173  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question. Are paper wallets reloadable? on: June 14, 2014, 06:07:53 PM
They're just a normal bitcoin address.  The point of a paper wallet is that it's secret.  If you spend it then it's not a secret anymore so reloading it would defeat the purpose.
174  Economy / Economics / Re: Have people become wealthy before, like with bitcoin? on: June 09, 2014, 06:45:58 PM
So what happens to the world if millions of millionaires are created all of a sudden?

A million millionaires would require purchase of 1 trillion dollars worth of bitcoin.  How is that going to happen?
175  Other / Meta / Re: Securing my forum account on: June 06, 2014, 05:32:23 PM
I think you're supposed to send it to yourself in a PM
176  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: June 05, 2014, 05:49:45 AM
In person, because of status?  I don't think this is right.

In a Brick and Mortar casinos there are betting limits because rich people don't like to sit with poor people.
177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does martingale really works? on: June 05, 2014, 03:43:17 AM
If you wanna get to the bottom of it, read the wikipedia article.  It's pretty good.

Overall, the key to defeating martingale (if you are the house) is to place a bet limit.  Once there's a highest bet possible, the martingale player has to lose as soon as their local loss streak takes them to the point of butting up against the bet limit.

Note that if you consider a player with a non-finite amount of fundage and no bet limit the martingale is going to clean out the house eventually.  However, these conditions aren't met in real life Smiley

That's not why there are betting limits.  It's because of Kelly and in person, because of status.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how secure is double encryption of blockchain? on: June 04, 2014, 05:48:38 PM
Just use offline storage / signing.
179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative distribution of initial coins on: June 02, 2014, 11:40:07 PM
Just go ahead and make your transaction coin.  Or If you want I could probably program it up for you for about 5 BTC, though I'd only make a linux client.
180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why are new coins distributed to miners? on: June 02, 2014, 10:40:43 PM
Does Visa randomly give away a bunch of money every 10 minutes to those that made a purchase in the previous 10 minutes?
